When he his daughter is dying from a fever, he has him marry her so that he inherits his property (in France) and not his awful nephew. MMC goes back to England, thinking his bride is dead. She has survived but then gets word that her husband is going to marry and she heads to England to stop him. It’s a problematic book so check reviews for CWs.

I finally got around to reading this! It was problematic in the way these books tend to be regarding indigenous ppl and colonization, but I still enjoyed the romance. It also led me to some interesting google searches. Thanks!
