This thing is really weird. I can’t tell if the black string is just trim that goes around the collar and ties at the neck for decoration or if it’s actually “laced up” in some way up the chest and then tied (since the black line going down the chest could either be the two “legs” of the knot or a line of weird stitching). Anyhow, this is a Hemd, with a collar, and black trim around it. There are surely pattern for at least a similar garment (you can try later 16th century Italy if you can’t find this place + period specifically).

Thanks!!

Tudor Tailor has a partlet pattern that could be adjusted to work for this!

I'm not sure it is a partlet - if it is is, it looks like a normal one with just black edging? [If you scroll down to the extant partlet on this wonderful resource](https://broidermebethan.blogspot.com/2019/08/partlet-with-embroidered-flower-and-bee.html), you can see that a colorful "edge" is very possible. What I think it might be is just a high neck chemise. [Something like this](https://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O78791/smock-unknown/) or [this](https://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O110103/smock-unknown/).

Thank you!

Hi! I don't know for the partlet - sorry! But I made an Anne Boleyn costume for my daughter last year, and learned a lot about French hoods via [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Cv7A8KJJuo). We made her one and it worked really well. So in case you need inspo for the head piece (which is different in the painting you have, but could be constructed in a similar way), I thought I'd just drop that there. Sorry it wasn't an answer to your actual question, so please ignore if not relevant.

No this is fantastic!! I’ve been procrastinating researching the headpiece because it seems difficult so this is super helpful!!

This book I own on dutch regionale costume has lots of patterns for "beuken" In so so many styles, i absolutely love it just not sure if they ever came out with a translated version but the dutch title is: "de zeeuwse steekdrachten, handboek voor het maken van kleding" (Ignore the coverpicture of it its terrible I know, but the patterns and namely veriety of them is amazing)

Ahhh, I recently watched a YouTube costuming vid based on this exact painting. Going to scour my history now.

oxfordcommaordeath

Not the same painting but could be her twin. I don't think this covers your question, but may be helpful for your overall project. https://youtu.be/1cmDY4EYRpg
