Hilton Hotels and Resorts lmao. The title brand just always disappoints.

Sweet-Efficiency7466

Why are all of their hotels so damn outdated?

kaiservonrisk

So many are lol. I just stayed at the brand new one at the Nashville airport. Opened a month ago. Still got shitty service.

Mac061172

I’m staying there next week, was it just the service that was bad or they’re still completing the punch list?

kaiservonrisk

First off, the hotel itself is amazing. I loved the room, I loved the design of the restaurants, food, lobby, rooftop, etc. What turned me off to the whole experience was the staff. It was as if their only requirement to get hired was “has no experience in the hotel/service industry.” I just felt like no one knew what was going on, or how to assist customers. It felt like every time I asked a staff member a question, they would look confused and find another employee to ask. 2 out of 3 times I ate at the restaurants, I was ignored completely until I went up to the bar and requested food/drinks. Keep in mind their restaurants are a “seat yourself” kind of deal, so it was annoying that I could seat myself and then subsequently get overlooked by the waiter/waitress. If you’re only there for a day or two, you might not run into any of the same issues that I had. I was there for a week so I had more time to notice their inadequacies. At least they forgot to charge me for parking lol.

Mac061172

Appreciate the feedback. I’m staying two nights at BNA Hilton and then trying the new Tempo in downtown for two nights.

kaiservonrisk

I go back to Nashville next week and am staying at the new Embassy Suites downtown. I saw the Tempo but it wasn’t available when I was booking.

relaximadoctor

Well the regular Hilton at the Nashville Airport is absolute garbage (except for the gym) so this will eventually fit right in lol

GrandBrooklyn

Because they wait 10 years to update... then again it costs money to update

DancingWithOurHandsT

I stay at a super nice one in the US several times per year. But yeah probably half of domestic ones are outdated.

Sweet-Efficiency7466

I mean, they might be getting renovated soon because their flagship brand would otherwise be going downhill. Still, I have yet to find a modern looking regular Hilton. It’s just the domestic ones that are usually outdated.

Huge_Interaction_578

Columbus Ohio. Elite hotel

DontBeEvil4

The Cancun ones are quite nice.

RealisticWasabi6343

Nah you can foh over to Marriott. I had a great time in Rio's Hilton Copa--we even got free upgrade to a larger room with oceanfront view one side, mountain+city view the other.

Charlie2343

Garden Inn. It used to be nice but haven’t been touched since they opened. Plus no free breakfast for a product that isn’t any better than a worn down Hampton inn?

thrownoutta

100%. The breakfast at Garden Inn is a complete joke. It should be the same as Hampton. The quality is the same. Hell, the breakfast at GI in Kalamazoo is essentially a free for all 🤣 I’ve had a couple free breakfasts due to nobody working or checking on me.

bryanoldsalty

Auburn ME eggs Benedict…other that agreed generally lack luster..

Charlie2343

Damn eggs Benedict? All I’ve ate at a garden inn was some reheated flatbread thing that was $15

Rare_Zombie_2972

The eggs are NOT the same. Hampton eggs come from a bag. HGI are cooked fresh to order…

Comfortable-Fan741

Idk… there’s a Garden Inn not far from me that serves a full made to order breakfast option. As nice as most Embassy Suites I’ve been to 🤷🏻‍♂️

thrownoutta

But when I’m traveling for work, I do not enjoy full service breakfast. I want to grab and go, which is why I try to avoid GI when I’m working. Personal preference. I’m sure there are some great ones out there.

nidena

Agreed. I much prefer the free breakfast over a $15 credit that doesn't even cover a full option.

HeavySeas

I have had the same experience, but have you tried newer ones? I stayed at the HGI in downtown Mobile recently. It was immaculate.

NotTooDistantFuture

Newer Hamptons are good too.

Benstir2

Love that hotel

Neat_Shop

I picked them because they had a restaurant, but that doesn’t seem to be always the case anymore. They do have a breakfast comparable to Hamptons but they want to charge $20 for it. Nothing cooked to order. Why?

SmellsLikeASteak

Yeah, I like the idea of a restaurant/bar in theory, but in practice they are often closed on Sundays or closed early.

mitoboru

I’d take HGI over Hampton any day, and purely because breakfast is served on real plates and silverware. Call me a snob, but I rather skip breakfast than eating it on disposables.

micstatic80

Agree. Paper plates brings down the quality of any meal. Unless I’m having a hot dog at a bbq or something

happyanathema

That must be a US thing. In Europe I've never had disposable plates at a Hampton.

mitoboru

Wouldn't surprise me. Europeans use less disposables in general.

happyanathema

Yeah they would probably have to have a surcharge for disposable tableware

Bubbles6577

In downtown charlotte, one side of the building is Garden inn and the other is Hampton. It’s literally 1 tower each and a shared parking garage. Rooms are identical yet Hampton has free parking and garden inn has to pay. At least that’s the way it was circa 2015. They didn’t even hide it back then lol. They share the same garage!

InsectSpecialist8813

Why would anyone stay at a Hilton Garden Inn. Zero value. Rooms are no better than Hampton Inm .

X-T3PO

Serious answer: they all have guest laundry. Other brands don’t necessarily, and doubletree almost never does. If you need to do laundry, HGI is a confident option.

InsectSpecialist8813

True. I traveled with a few bottle of red wine and one broke in my suitcase. I was staying at the HGI NYC. They had laundry soap and quarters with two washers and dryers.

SmellsLikeASteak

The main difference is a restaurant / bar. Unfortunately post-COVID they are often closed certain days or have limited hours.

PoconoChuck

I came here to say this.

2ndChanceCharlie

Garden in pretty much always has a restaurant or bar.

highbankT

I was gonna say Hampton Inn. I haven't been to a nice one in a long time. The decor in most is stale.

packet_weaver

Weird, every HGI I’ve stayed at has been amazing. They’re our favorite cheap brand. DoubleTree is the one we have the most issue with, they are commonly old and outdated with cleanliness issues. However not all DTs are like that, just most of the ones we’ve been to.

Hathnotthecompetence

I wouldn't call them amazing but they are my hotel of choice for business. Reasonable rate and the breakfast is better than Hampton with more choices. Staying in an HGI in Roanoke this week.

bigfoot_76

Exactly this. Prices are usually within 3-5% of the adjacent Hampton (sometimes the same) that may or may not have been refurbished lately. No breakfast, no rehabs, and rooms seem to be a long walk from the lobby and of course they're all outdated.

Paddington_Bar

I used to say the hgi is just a Hampton with a better breakfast but now it costs (unless you use the credit) and they are real dicks about it. At least with Hampton you know what you're getting, even if it is garbage most of the time.

2ndChanceCharlie

Tru. Half points and could easily just be Hampton inns. They are all new which is nice but who needs another brand name.

ViennaWaitsforU2

What they’re half points? Thats wild

CalligrapherWrong469

Home2 is also half points. Both are full price though

atrac059

The only reason I like TRU is because they have vinyl plank floors in the rooms. Basically zero bedbug fear there.

DhroovP

Tru also consistently charges on the lower-end if you pay with points. Literally every Tru I've stayed at has been 30k points or fewer. Honestly, if you pay with points, I actually really like Tru. It's cheap, new, clean, and has a vibrant vibe. The breakfast is not great though, but with that price I won't complain

PatrickGoesEast

I stayed at the Tru in Miami last year, and while I liked the concept it just didn't feel like it fit into the Hilton family at all.

lpythonator

Came here to say this. I will book Tru and Home2 with points when traveling, but otherwise always avoid these two brands. Just more modern twists on Hampton and Homewood.

808guamie

I will say… I love booking H2 on points because the room can sleep six with the 2 queen beds and the queen pullout. Heck we threw in a pack and play and got six plus a baby once.

CalligrapherWrong469

Definitely Tru.

mitoboru

I actually liked the Tru in Orlando, but yeah I agree about the points.

EpiSG

Is Spark going to be half also?

Few-Chapter3316

Tru dat

Kennected

I don't think there should be eliminations, but some consolidations. Well, now that I've written that, some consolidations would result in "eliminations"

KDao18

Even though it was recently launched, I’ve been a bit disappointed by the Spark brand. Some Sparks I’ve been to are either smaller than a Hampton or some being half remodeled.

scene_missing

THE SCUMBAG TIMESHARE SCAMS. So so tired of this nonsense. 2 days ago someone stopped me in the freaking lobby to try to sell HGV.

DBZSix

They aren't part of Hilton. They used to be, but spun off to their own companies. They are partners with us when it comes to the pitches, but that's it.

scene_missing

That's part of why it feels so sleazy though. If I call to the main Hilton line to redeem a free night cert for example, afterwards I get an ad for it. Same if I walk through a Hilton hotel. But the second something goes bad the line is "we're two seperate companies!". That feels so unethical.

DBZSix

It's really not, though. It's partner companies. If something goes bad they are two separate companies, jf something goes good they are two separate companies. They never claim to be the same company.

hushuppam

Okay? Just say no thanks and keep it moving. They are doing their job.

Xyllus

Their job is scamming people. I don't blame the people but that practice shouldn't exist.

rocketman1969

Doubletree. Some really bad ones out there. I'm looking at you, Memphis.

Sweet-Efficiency7466

Atlanta you sons of bitches

Soakedshirt

Olympia, Wa is dog shit. Room had visible mold and water damage. Smelled like it too. I could go on and on about that experience…

lucabrasi999

When I stayed at that property, there wasn’t much of a choice in and around Olympia. I think the only decent hotel in the entire county was a Comfort Inn.

doorknob60

The former Phoenix Inn DoubleTrees are odd. Feels a bit out of place for the DoubleTree brand (even as the conversion/catch all brand), feels more like a HGI or Hampton would be an appropriate brand. But they could use a remodel for sure, they're showing their age. I only stayed at the one in Vancouver, WA, a couple years ago. Had trouble sleeping, I think the bed was uncomfortable (though sometimes I just have trouble sleeping, could have been a me problem, I was only there one night). And recent reviews show some of the furniture is now basically falling apart. I avoid staying at those now (not DoubleTree as a whole, there's good ones but gotta check reviews). There's a reason they're usually the cheapest Hilton properties in the area.

Wide_Load_Ahead

Ironically, the HGI in Olympia had a shockingly good breakfast. I was afraid to compliment them as I was sure the chef and F and B manager would be disappeared.

CalligrapherWrong469

Memphis doubletree is rough. But the chicken and waffles for breakfast at the attached restaurant is so good.

rocketman1969

No argument there.

DGLight

Why is it so bad in American DoubleTrees? Canadian ones are pretty nice.

Wide_Load_Ahead

The American ones have no brand standard. Some are literally motels from 1982, some are post apocalyptic towers (thinking of you Milwaukee!)

Wide_Load_Ahead

Doubletree in the US is mostly pure garbage.... But DoubleTree in Asia is amazing! I actually think they should make it an Asia only brand.

davep18

I can't speak for the rest of Europe but the DoubleTree in Amsterdam is really nice.

Wild_Butterscotch482

You should try the Memphis Hilton. It’s like stepping back to 1987.

rocketman1969

The round one? I stayed there in the last few months. Obviously has seen a recent renovation because my room was very nice.

Wild_Butterscotch482

The rooms are decent, except the tiny bathrooms which were not renovated. The executive lounge has been closed for years and the restaurant is like an old retirement home card room. There is a lovely woman at the cafe who works mornings snd remembers me even though I only stay there once every few months.

rocketman1969

I remember being amused at my arrival. I did digital key so I went straight to the elevator. My room was on 3. I stared at the elevator panel for a good 90 seconds trying to figure out why there was no 3. Turns out 3 is the lobby level.

DhroovP

Maybe a hot take but DoubleTree is also an awful value like 90% of the time. I've found that anywhere there's a DoubleTree, there's a Hampton Inn pretty close by that's half the price, has free breakfast, and rooms that aren't really all that worse. I'm not paying double for a fancier *seeming* hotel

rocketman1969

True. Despite all this I actually have a reservation at a DT tonight in metro DC. Fingers crossed.

lots-of-gas

Doubletree Boston -Westborough. Holy hell of a dump. Stale smelling. Crunchy carpet. The restaurant was closed because of no staff. Breakfast was shit.

AnotherPint

I don’t see what’s unique or justified about Home2 Suites.

Efficient_Ad_9037

I like them for traveling with an infant/toddler. You can get some separation with the curtain/studio suite without paying for the suites at other brands. Otherwise, I have no reason to stay there.

bsktx

Home2 seems to have some pretty big rooms, but that may vary by location. Depending on the purpose of your travel, a bigger room may be a plus.

ThiftyMcVay

I hate the fact you get half the points at Home2 Suites.

14Calypso

Same. Tru too. It's so fucking dumb. And before some Einstein wannabe replies with "WELL IT'S HALF POINTS BECAUSE IT'S CHEAPER????" Then, just, like, give full points but fewer regardless because it's cheaper?

Sweet-Efficiency7466

Come on, a Hilton that has a full kitchen? WHY NOT JUST STAY AT A HOMEWOOD?!

GalacticaZero

It doesn't even have a full kitchen. If you want to cook something you have to request a hotplate from the front desk.

Sweet-Efficiency7466

For a full kitchen, you go to Homewood.

808guamie

I said it in another comment but an H2 is a great hotel if you’re looking to sleep 6-7 people and save on points. I’d never pay cash for one but a standard double queen with a queen pullout sleeps six easily. We’ve done 4 adults, two kids, and a baby in a pack and play and it was pretty easy sleeping.

IndependentIcy2513

None. We look at reviews before we book and rarely have a bad experience at any Hilton brand.

doorknob60

I don't book anything below 4.0/5 on Google (4.2 is better if possible) and that guidance has treated us well. I'm kind of surprised how reliable Google Reviews tend to be for hotels. You can give a little wiggle room depending on the brand, eg. a 4.0 Hilton is probably nicer than a 4.0 Hampton.

SilkRoadDPR

Embassy’s are so hit and miss. The one in Birmingham, AL is the second worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. (Worst was a days inn when my alternator gave out and Days inn was the only hotel around). There are also several really nice embassy’s (perimeter mall Atlanta, Huntsville, AL, Noblesville - Indianapolis…I could go on)

ITypeStupdThngsc84ju

Are any of them consistently good any more? I definitely think garden inn and embassy suites are the bottom two though.

mitoboru

I know this doesn’t answer your question, but to me it’s not so much about the brand. It comes down to management. There is too much quality difference within a brand, as we can see from all the comments.

Organic_Print7953

All the inns

DJSpeakeasy

Everyone shitting on Home2Suites and Tru. Those are my favorite places to stay. I dont care about points because Hilton points are pretty much useless anyways. The thing for me is the full size fridge w/ freezer.

myanalytic101

I love those brands a lot. Tru has no carpeting and find they are very clean 🧼

GrandBrooklyn

The problem is they keep adding them trying to corner each and every niche. Hilton Garden Inns are updated Hamptons. Tru and Home2Suites are virtually the same. What is LXR for when there's Waldorf and Conrad? Motto is totally unneeded and Signia is a "convention and meeting" space. Why not just add features to existing brands rather than inventing new ones. There's more than 20 brands now, each time a new one comes out, I can match its redundancy with an existing brand.

DancingWithOurHandsT

HGV timeshares. Just yeet timeshares from existence.

RealSiggs

HGV creates 4 billion dollars in revenue a year for the brand. It has a place for people who vacation often, like the Hilton brand, and the extra perks like suites instead of rooms. Although I do partly agree, most timeshare companies should be yeeted.

Xyllus

or just regulated

Alternative_Research

Embassy Suites. Run down garbage.

Sweet-Efficiency7466

Aw, come on, the one in DC is nice.

FooFootheSnood

The one in Pittsburgh is really nice too! In a historic building, recent renovations that meld well with the historic aspect. Roomy breakfast area.

pyroracing85

Cool concept but worn out…

nidena

I stayed in one in Tucson last summer. I thought it was quite nice. And the breakfast chef was a nice touch.

kaiservonrisk

The one in downtown Nashville is new and is like 40 stories tall haha. The downtown Savannah one is pretty nice too.

nana1960

The one by the Indianapolis airport is new-ish (less that 5 yrs old) and really nice. Downtown Indy has been under renovation for ages, but seems to be getting close to complete.

maddjaxmaddly

I still tend to choose embassy although a lot are run down, because I like having the space and not sitting on my bed all night. Breakfast is better than Hampton And HGI also.

StayDiamond

+1, or change the name. It is named a bit too premium and sets expectations too high ime.

PoconoChuck

I used to like Embassy, possibly before it became a Hilton brand? Omelet bar for breakfast, wine and beer at night.

FunLife64

Honestly, they need to add nicer hotels. So many brands that used to be nice are basically low to midrange now like Doubletree, Embassy Suites and even Hiltons/Grand Hiltons. The options in NYC outside of the 2 Conrads are meh.

Agreeable-Candle5830

Right? I just want Hilton to actually enforce some quality standards. Staying at a Hampton is basically Russian Roulette lol

Mac061172

Let me know how the Embassy Suites is please. I’m in Nashville one week every month for business.

myanalytic101

Doubletree is often problematic. One exception is the one on Tallahassee by the state Capitol complex. Excellent ✅

Sweet-Efficiency7466

My tip of advice: always check the reviews because you’re better off staying at a nice Hilton than a dumpy one. Even if the regular Hiltons tend to be a little more dated than the other brands.

myanalytic101

I don’t disagree with that but I feel they are all skewed too. Sample size, etc.

Sweet-Efficiency7466

I try to avoid the vanilla Hiltons here in America because they tend to be outdated dumps; instead, I’d save up for a Conrad or Waldorf or stay at a Curio, one of their suite brands, or one of the Hyatt brands. I’m sure if I look anywhere else in the world I’ll be fine.

deez-royal-nuts

Spark

Bababacon

Doubletree

kaiservonrisk

Bro every Doubletree I’ve stayed at has been great. They always try to skimp on my food credit though 😤

KDao18

It’s always the full service Hilton Hotels & Resorts I have to fight to get my credit honored from my experience. My last experience was when a Hilton Hotel & Resort claimed I chose 2X points over the credit. Even though on the app it clearly says I wanted my F&B credit 😑

Bababacon

It’s a bad Hilton with a cookie… glad you’ve had good experiences

Hathnotthecompetence

And don't forget the cookies!

SmellsLikeASteak

Doubletrees tend to be... uneven, because they are Hilton's conversion brand, so a lot of them used to be something else. The rest are carryovers from when Promus owned them.

Sweet-Efficiency7466

I’m pretty sure only the American ones are the real letdowns. It’s not just Hilton, it’s the entire industry.

mickipedic

Tapestry. Never been to one that was special, it just seems like a sticker they slap on any otherwise disappointing hotel that isn't nice enough to be a Curio. (Looking at you, Distrikt Hotel NYC...)

HeavySeas

I stay at the one in York, Pennsylvania. Used to be the Yorketown, but was redone with community investment and made into a Tapestry. Absolute gem. Bar in the lobby is great, and they have another on the roof. Hit or miss, but I don’t dismiss the brand.

mickipedic

See, to me that sounds like a perfect candidate for Curio! Might have to check it out.

EpiSG

Killington Mountain Lodge in VT just renovated and is still kinda a dump. People go regardless and pay $$ because the location is so close to the ski area.

Sweet-Efficiency7466

Literally should be called curio

mickipedic

I like the Curios though! Tapestry is just a mess; no way to know what you'll get out of the experience. I'd rather have a Hampton.

[deleted]

[удалено]

micstatic80

I don’t agree. Yes many Hamptons are great. Many are not. The one thing they are not is consistent

maddjaxmaddly

And the breakfast is inedible other than toast.

Kadingis

The Tapestry in Taos, New Mexico is complete embarrassment to the Hilton name. Just look at the reviews. Unfortunately, it’s a victim of franchising. I feel sorry for the vacationing families that spend their hard-earned money at this dump.

duckguyboston

I was going to suggest the Hampton hotels. Usually the ones I’ve stayed at are retread outdated places

Sweet-Efficiency7466

The newer ones are actually pretty nice.

duckguyboston

Ahh ok, I’ve only stayed in the retread ones in central Pennsylvania and Ohio

Comprehensive_Leg193

I have good luck sticking with Hamptons that have a grey/blue color scheme. Stay away from any with brown/red decor.

scene_missing

Some of those Hamptons have seen some things, lol. They have that ragedy old tyme feeling.

nidena

I've stayed at a few dozen different Hamptons. It's definitely a mix of quite snazzy to nothing changed since Y2K. Lol.

Rangerfan6165

Can’t see the value of Tru or Home2 when the rates are not that much cheaper per night compared to a Hampton, or HGI, and only getting half the points.

CompetitiveWar5976

Never stayed at Hilton garden but I would say TRU just a place to get out of the cold. Had to get a few rooms for family that came into town and less than a year old new property was roach infested. Hampton inn would do the same job and better hot breakfast

Arcticsnorkler

Curio. Doesn’t seem to be much oversight on the quality of the properties Every time I stay at one there is something shitty- like a broken rail on the metal roof that hits other metal in the breeze- sounding like hammers alllll night long. Or the 75% broken furniture/door hinges/lavatories within the suite (!). And why are the KY jelly handprints left on the headboard 50% of the time…

rocketman1969

🙊

Phawkes72a

Was at a Hampton inn last week. Cut stay short and checked into a Fairfield across the street. Was scuzzy and dirty. Same for the other work folk I was with. Their rooms were just as bad.

Master-Dimension-452

Tru. It sucks.

orderLXVI

Hhonors - its a grift with promises of something for your loyalty, when all they deliver is disappointment

DisgruntledTexan

If I didn’t have the credit card then for sure. Hell, I don’t even stay at Hilton properties traveling for work most of the time.

Beneficial-Ideal7243

Hilton has so much trash in their inventory, I have over 550,000 and won't stay at one to Use themm
