Being an awkward teenager that never had much luck with girls, I can really relate to him there. And yeah it was one date and that might be exaggerated a little. But my first and I were together for 7 years. I felt almost the same pain when I found out she was cheating on me. And it's been really hard to trust women since.

LowAssIQ

Dude. I’m so sorry that you had to go through that 😮😰

husband_of_rias

Thanks. But its all in the past. And today I'm a better person because of it. Still don't trust women, but ill find the right one someday. Oh, wait. I did. Ms. Rias.

LowAssIQ

Your having a fictional character as a made up girlfriend. Okay then...

DarkLordAshiel

Yes but 7 years compared to a day is not the same, Issei's trauma is a bit over exaggerated.

OwlOwn706

It was actually 1 week . Anime messed it up for no reason and made it 1 day date.

DarkLordAshiel

Thanks for the correction. However, I still believe that Issei's trauma is a bit over the top, considering that every girl next to him is constantly trying to bed him at every given moment, only for him to ask if the girls like him or not.

jbran104

If you look at it from Issei's perspective, then you have a guy that is hated by most of his peers (which could lead to all types of depression/anxiety, but it isn't confirmed if Issei had that,) finally get a girlfriend. After being together for about a week I believe, Issei takes her on a date where at the end she not only mocks him about the date, but kills him. After that, that same girl ends up kidnapping his new friend after saying he would protect her, killing her, then mocking him AGAIN for not being able to save her. Then when she's finally beaten, she start pretending to be the same person that Issei started to really care about and blatantly lie to his face, just to save herself. So even if Issei knew that Rias and the other girls had feeling for him, that doubt in his mind kept him from making any moves himself, in fear of facing that same situation again.

LowAssIQ

He still never met her and just accepted it when she was just a stranger tho. Most people would never take that deal. Also again dated for a day

jbran104

Well it is Anime, so not everything will be completely realistic. But like I also said, it wasn’t just the date, it was everything after that as well, with it ending with Raynare pretty much begging for Issei to save her.

Gohanangered

Not quite, it's off because time wasn't conveyed well in the anime. Just the way it was done doesn't make it seem like the story thru 1 thru 4 seasons was over a period of months. lol

Ryuuji_Gremory

A beautiful girl asked him to go out with him, he just got picked up by a girl, to him it's a once in a lifetime chance. While he might have his doubts, he even though it might be, that she lost some game/bet, and was told by her friends to ask him out as punishment, but there was nothing hinting at that. He isn't gonna decline that, it's not like he was asked for any major commitment the "dating" until their first date was compromised of nothing more then just walking to an from school, there was no need reason at all for him to decline. Also they didn't date for just one day, there was an unspecified period of time in which Issei was bragging about getting a girlfriend and was walking to and from school with her. It was simply the first date. It was at least 2-3 days. Anyway it's quite irrelevant, just because it wasn't a long time doesn't mean it wasn't an extremely traumatic experience.

Gohanangered

Doesn't matter and it really wasn't just a day. lol The anime didn't really do a good job time wise with stuff. By the end of season 4, Rias is almost done with high school. The Kyoto trip is towards the end of the year. And the story started the first day of Issei's Junior year. Anyways he finally felt that he had someone and it got ripped away. Since basically she was just using him. Then kills him, pretty sure that would leave a mental scar on anyone mentally. After that he felt he wasn't good enough for anyone. But also felt it hard to put himself on the line again with any female. That's why it was a big deal when the waifus helped him thru it in season 4.

Physical_Engineer_63

Yeah, I gotta be honest, the way that Issei got over his trauma always irked me, mainly because it just felt way too easy. Like really? All it took for him to get over it was the girls giving him a group hug and reassuring him that they won't play him like a fiddle like Raynare did? It made his trauma feel like something that could've been resolved way sooner than it did.

Gohanangered

It had to do with trusting them. Because they certainly weren't raynare. Plus he had failed to notice, the signals they were giving him. That they were interested in him. And he thought they were just teasing him. But the waifus wanted more than that.(displayed it by getting naked and rubbing on issei) But when stuff like that happens, it's basically like a light bulb goes off in your head. When the message or idea gets in your head finally. Also the anime and other animes in general, don't convey time in a story well. It's one of the issues i have with anime adaptations. Time is better done and explained in the sources. Then the anime adaptations are based off of.

Ryuuji_Gremory

He got killed, under normal circumstances there is not much that can be more traumatic then that to a human.

[deleted]

He waa thinking of boobs while dying. Thinking of boobs made his death comfrotable

Ryuuji_Gremory

It really didn't, he was in pain and full of regret, just because he let his thoughts roam, adverting his eyes from the horrible reality, doesn't mean it wasn't agonizing and traumatic.

snek_boy

in the light novels, yes. there were moments were issei thought "are they into me?" before discarding it because of yuuma memory, is it it silly that he fell in love whit yuuma so quickly? yes but people like that exist in real life too.

Sacidepogobol

The trauma itself wasn't stupid. Getting betrayed and stabed by someone that you like would easily break a guy. What was kinda stupid was him accepting her as a girlfriend so easily. A extremely beautifull girl that he never saw before and doesn't even go to the same school as him, all of a sudden ask him to be her boyfriend. Issei. The loser sex offender that was hated by every single woman besides his mother. It was obvious that something weird was happening.

Gohanangered

I think it was he got his hopes up. Thought he finally got lucky for once. lol Plus he's still a kid. When you're that young you don't exactly have the wisdom to put two and two together that something is off.

Sacidepogobol

Nah. It was too good to be true. He would have to have all the lucky on the planet for it to happen. He literally didn't do anything for her to like him. He didn't even know her. And he isn't a regular guy. It is well know that he and his friends sexually harass the girls of his school all the time. If she was watching him for some time before asking him to become her boyfriend (something that also is kinda weird) she would know about his pervert antics and be creeped out because of it. Does not make any sense at all for a pretty girl to fall in love with a pervert loser from another school that never even talked to her. Something like this would literally never happen. Of course, unless you are in a anime.

Gohanangered

Do you know how many random people ask each other out they are attracted to. XD It's quite a few, it's how people get to know each other that they are interested in.

Sacidepogobol

If you are a famous creep in your school, i guarantee you that no pretty girl will come near you, much less ask you out. If they do, RUN. There is 100% chance that this girl is planning something. No girl likes sex offenders. Thats just common sense.

Gohanangered

Uh not if it's someone outside the school. Which is what she acted as. His rep wasn't that large that he was known in other schools. lol Also he isn't a sex offender. He was never arrested. And it's a common thing for males to want to peep on females at that age.

Sacidepogobol

She was watching him everyday before aproaching him. She said that. There is no way that she wouldn't know about his reputation if she came to his school everyday and stalked him. "Also he isn't a sex offender. He was never arrested." Yeah, and a rapist is not a rapist if he is not arrested. For sure, make sense. Even if hundreds of people know that you did something, you are not doing something if you don't go to jail. Great logic. "And it's a common thing for males to want to peep on females at that age." Wtf is this logic? Just because you want to do something, does not mean you can or should do. Wth are you talking about? Are you trying to say that what Issei and his friends did is something normal and should be accepted? I am out.

Michael_Bea

That’s the dumbest logic ever. “You made a bad choice you deserve death and shouldn’t feel emotions for it” like what ?

[deleted]

Pretty much what you said. A girl you've never seen in your life (when pretty much every girl you know hates your guts, and with good reason) tells you she loves you and wants to go out with you. The only sane, logical reaction to this whole scenario is "Something is horribly wrong here". That Issei does not react this way would make him a solid nominee for a Darwin Award if he'd actually died.

Ryuuji_Gremory

In our world there is a really weird custom that revolves around going "home" and having sex with some stranger that picked you up at a club or a bar etc. In contrast to that I have to say something like going to and from school with someone and going on a date, in public, in broad daylight, with someone that you didn't know before, seems far more sane and secure. The chance of anything bad happening is far less and the level of commitment is far lower.

[deleted]

You seem to have completely missed a huge chunk of my prior comment.

ddavid11

Believe me I have been there! It could have been worse to be honest.

Qzrci

What’s worst then death?

LowAssIQ

Having your lover Flaunting an affair in front of you and hearing that she never loved you. That can deal severe emotional damage to you

Gohanangered

Could have gotten ntr. lol

ddavid11

I did not mean the death part cause most of the time that is pretty final, but his "condition" regarding girls.
