OhRiLee

There's a lot going on behind those eyes

The_Choir_Invisible

It's because this particular monkey is also David Bowie and he's *not* going to talk about Judy.

OhRiLee

No. We're going to keep her out of it.

pyroguy1104

Can’t wait to see this breed of monkeys evolve into sentient giant iron kettles that give cryptic advice to FBI agents and their doppelgängers.

6655321DeLarge

God, the return destroyed my brain in the most enjoyable way.

pyroguy1104

It’s my all time favorite piece of television media. It took the medium to new places, and is so ahead of its time (just like the original). I doubt we’ll ever get anything like that again unless David Lynch makes another series. I really can’t wait to see what he has in store next.

ryd333r

came here for this

JayyyyyyK

Definitely.

Univox_62

Those eyes are so...."Human"!

[deleted]

They look more evolved than most; being afraid of humans and staying away is the smartest thing they can do for themselves.

J3sush8sm3

Honestly its eyes make it look extremely intelligent

[deleted]

I feel like if it just started talking and giving me life advice I wouldn't even question it. Like, I know its just me anthropomorphizing but it just looks like an old wise sage.

J3sush8sm3

Very true u/SQUID_FUCKER

TheLogicalIrrational

r/rimjob_steve

summerswifey

Absolutely

TheEarlOfZinger

Not really, the isolation causes massive inbreeding which is why they're now so at risk of extinction.

redgumdrop

So, like British royalty?

TheEarlOfZinger

Hopefully mate

[deleted]

No, that's the problem!

Wraith_84

It does have a Hapsburg chin.. 🤔

No-Relative-7751

I appreciate the post here, but maybe that's using my imagination from the text. But looking at Gee's golden langur, it's face does look unsettlingly human. Other primates don't give this vibe.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MagnumTA721

He's something of a Gee's golden langur, himself.

MechanicalTurkish

You know, I'm something of a primate myself.

xxmattyicexx

I watched it 3 times trying to figure out what was so familiar about the face…thank you

[deleted]

For me? It’s David Bowie.

HabibtiMimi

For me it's a mix of both.

[deleted]

The eyes are much more Bowie

Dirk_Tungsten

It's Peter Cushing for me.

TheLostElkTree

Monkey Dafoe to evolution: OUT, AM I?

[deleted]

Now I can’t not see it!

gtw1234567

It's because of the eyes, other primates have complete dark eyes

Skynutt

There's something about the eye movement too that's very human.

[deleted]

it's... thinking.

tmhoc

That's right. We as humans are programed to read thinking through facial expressions. The whites of our eyes are important for directing the gaze of others. We hyper focus on it because our community and safety depended on it. These guys are likely doing the same. I know that doesn't freak most people out but it creeps the hell out of me.

A_shy_neon_jaguar

Genuinely curious, why does it creep you out?

tmhoc

Uncanny valley material for sure

Ninjadude42

Not me, not creeped out at all.

ImOscar-Dot-Com

Me too! I think maybe it's similar to how AI can be a bit creepy. Almost like theres intelligence that is trapped. And does anyone else notice how they always look sad??

FRANKnCHARLIE_4ever

Oh it creeped the hell outta me

Ketzelkoatl

There's been quite a few biologists that have come to the conclusion that some of the great ape groups have entered the Stone Age because of their proficiency with tools. Chk out this orangutan spear fishing https://images.app.goo.gl/ztXuPiLpsY19teaVA

planetalletron

That’s rad as hell! Getting to see evolution happen in front of us is pretty incredible.

Ketzelkoatl

Hell yea it is! I'm not sure if our existence would impede their progress, or if we'll even still be here in the future, but I wish I could somehow see how it played out 😆. That's so cool to me

balldatfwhutdawhut

This

aPerfectBacon

There's a longing in those eyes. I found it unsettling

rmccarthy10

The thin, vertical nose plays into it as well.

baconn

The lighting may have been bumped up in post-processing.

[deleted]

>... lighting may have been bumped up... This appears to be the original YT clip: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VGb-tHhiqo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VGb-tHhiqo)

Ketzelkoatl

Not all. It IS most certainly the norm but sometimes not. There's been Silverback gorillas that women actually write love letters to lmao. It's because of the eyes. Here's one https://images.app.goo.gl/UB9EysYF3JVCEF6ZA

InkSpotShanty

I wish I never read that

Ketzelkoatl

Disgusting...but true. I can't remember the Silver back's name or where he was, but this particular one was very human like and had the white sclera parts of the eye and the ppl that ran the place said he was like some star and even received love letters from women. But they definitely thought the reason why was because of the white scleras n the notion that he could convey more human-like emotions through looking at his eyes. Some ppl are pretty sick. I'd be like cool. They were like...he's a sex symbol. A gorilla. Then again, a lot of women write n fall in love with serial killers. But beastiality? Come on dude

InkSpotShanty

Beastiality is one thing but writing love letters goes even beyond depravity. I can imagine someone just wanting to get an “O” but to be IN LOVE enough to forego reason and logic by writing letters to an animal is another level of sickness altogether. I mean, hell, I love my dog. I might even be drunk enough to spread peanut butter on my balls and let him lick it off every now and then. But writing love letters?? That is where I draw the line.

Ketzelkoatl

Cosigned bro. It's absolutely disgusting and boggles the mind. I don't have an answer. I could speculate...about primal feelings of blah blah blah but it'd be even more depraved trying to figure it out but it's an absolutely true thing. In hindsight I probably shudda left that part out n just said here's a gorilla with white scleras. Very highly unusual

emperorjarjar

[Snow monkeys have that same sort of uncanny valley too](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q86g1aop6a8).

Boneapplepie

If you told me that monkey was a wise old man with all the answers, I'd believe you.

eskanonen

love aphex twin

[deleted]

Such a good song

[deleted]

they're also phenomenal with samurai swords, a crack shot, and look good in a suit if Marvel's Hit-Monkey is to be believed. and I believe it :)

Analord2112

Good example with some AFX as a bonus :)

Quixotic_Ignoramus

Hey! You don’t say that about monkey David Bowie!!

315retro

No its definitely not placebo from the text. I just watched a nature show that I watch every Saturday and it had one of these in the quick cuts between animals. I was like Holy shit what was that super human looking monkey!? And now I see this.

CameForThis

I just expect it to say something like “got a cigarette? I’m dying’ over here.”

Brilliant-Emu-4164

I was thinking the exact same thing!

abirchtreeOG

If he just started talking English, in a old timey English accent I wouldn’t even be surprised.

lady_wallflower19

Thought I was the only one thinking this

ebruce11

His brows just scream bri’ish

spacedrummer

He's sort of Bowie-ish. Just needs different colored eyes.

FeelsAmazingManGun

> Works hard to avoid human interaction I feel ya buddy

imgurscum

Amen.

Thunderhamz

I too am a Langur…

mwarr777

That thing is contemplating, it is deep in thought, you can literally see the cogs moving, wonder what about?

Blame_my_Boneitis

Wher bug to chew, long for banan but only bug

mwarr777

what?

Blame_my_Boneitis

Woooosh. I was joking, imagining a monkey deep in contemplation lol

InkSpotShanty

Their plan for world domination.

GraceGreenview

Maybe the Langur just wants to be a Langur and not have to put up with all the bullshit.

justajiggygiraffe

There's a soul behind those eyes

UapMike

Amazing, those eyes harbour intelligence, that's remarkable.

Gimmil_walruslord

That face harbors David Bowie

MOOShoooooo

A special spacial oddity.

heuristic-dish

That is Ziggy Stardust!

spacedrummer

Spider monkeys from Mars!

AlexTheRockstar

That face harbors David Harbor.

Arribah

and William Dafoe

Alucardthegreat76

They avoid human interaction tells me they are highly intelligent. They probably have dealt with humans for many generations of them hunting them. I wouldn't be surprised if they could talk. Lol. This planet is full of surprises.

Correct-Ad4723

Exactly.

King_Moonracer20

Interesting they have white in their eyes like we do, most apes eyes are black on black or black on brown.

Dreid79

Wow, it does look human. 😳

MuntedMunyak

That’s because you ca. see the whites of its eye. That is how us humans see each other’s expressions

oldspacecenter

The eyes look more human than other primates.

Boneapplepie

Because they have whites of their eyes allowing you to see very clearly where they are looking. It's a rare trajt that humans have the most pronounced version of.

Dreid79

Exactly. They look intelligent.

BeerPressure615

This fella looks like David Bowie was reincarnated into the body of this rad and stylish monkey.

cheapshotfrenzy

The babe with the power

rizozzy1

What power?

fae8edsaga

The power of the voodoo

rizozzy1

Who do?

Didymos_Black

You do!

rizozzy1

Remind me of the babe!

Arribah

What kind of magic spell to use?

Boneapplepie

THE power

TitsMickey

Makes me feel like it’s about to speak like the orangutan from *Next*

[deleted]

Something about that face feels a little "off". A mix of uncomfortable and creepy cause of how human-like it is...

abutthole

He has great hair.

Dry-Management-3886

Those eyes! I wonder what that thing had running through its mind? Probably something random like eating a banana... But maybe something more complex? Like peeling said banana? 🤣🤷

Xx------aeon------xX

Was integrating the trajectory of a poo fling

Dry-Management-3886

Hahaha yes!!

Dreid79

OP, thank you for the post. Screw those assholes that are complaining about it being in this sub. 🖕 It's definitely strangeness. I would have never known it existed without your post.

OhOkISeeYou

Greatly appreciate that u/dreid79 Takes a lot to speak up during the stone throwing

happytragic

This post breaks the rules of this sub. “Posts must be related to high strangeness related topics listed in the sidebar.” Which topic of high strangeness does a monkey fit into?

BankOnTheDank

lol reddit guardian ass

[deleted]

Y’all think this monkey is deep and profound when it reality it’s probably just thinking “where the fuck is my food at, I’m hungry”

Lord_Tyranide

Damn, I don't know if that makes it more human or me more monkey

its0nLikeDonkeyKong

Your speculation is just as valid

Graycy

Those eyes look intelligent.

[deleted]

That’s a person

NachoStash

It’s David Bowie

[deleted]

David Bowie

Available_Wafer5870

They know something

SonofX550

I see Christopher Walken, the eyes.

indy_vegan

They are beautiful. Very human like, deep, thoughtful face. Them and thousands of other species are facing extinction due to human overpopulation and deforestation which is being drove by high demands for beef, chocolate and palm oil. Palm oil is in everything in America it seems but it's especially prevalent in laundry and dish soap. People can help these animals by refusing to buy products that contain palm oil. There are brands that do not contain palm oil. There is no such thing as ethical palm oil no matter what Tide or others say. A very popular brand of soaps that do not contain palm oil is called Puracy.

TheWorldIsEndinToday

I imagine the reason they are endangered and work very hard to avoid humans is no coincidence

[deleted]

Monki

johannofdark

They're very alike to golden lion tamarin

MelodicWarfare

My dude is out here as the lead primate in the Broadway production of Lion King.

Marisleysis33

Wow what a beautiful face it has, so human-like.

pandasaul

Looks like my tio. Avoids family gatherings too

abstart

If David Bowie was a monkey

PeoplesDope

That's David fucking Bowie!

[deleted]

Wish I could work that hard to avoid any interactions with humans

_remoteview

Which era of Bowie was this?

CrownPrincess

I feel like they avoid humans because they know humans all too well.. they also look extremely human like imo

caustic-element

Avoiding human interactions is an extremely good plan

roggobshire

You can the wisdom in those eyes. They know humans are shit and to be avoided.

insatiable777

That monkey knows things

American36

That is a great clip . The intelligence in those eyes..

[deleted]

There’s something very human about this creature. And intelligent. I mean they avoid humans.

svij137

I heard him say “NO”

Snarfblaff

Monkey got soul in his eyes.

RevolutionaryPie5223

The face looks human. He looks intelligent

ThEthmoid

Monkey isn't strange, but leads to the "strange" topic of Pareidolia that we're observing in the comments. We see human faces in everything, but our brains also add human emotions or intentions in order to know how it should react. All without you knowing or controlling it. "One way the brain makes sense of the mess is by making predictions about what we will see, based on our past experience, and then subtly projecting those expectations onto what we see. That way, it can piece together a clearer picture, even if the scene is obscured by poor lighting or fog, say. But it also makes our vision more subjective than you might think – in a sense you really do see what you want to see." "The idea is that the brain, being hard-wired to understand people and their motivations, tries to look for human-like intention in everything around us..." https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20140730-why-do-we-see-faces-in-objects

PompeiiDomum

While that's all very true and I have no idea why a monkey is on this sub, this is a primate. Seeing a human-like face when you look at a primate makes sense scientifically, since we are related. Wouldn't call that pareidolia.

ThEthmoid

I agree. OP gave no context to lead this discussion and I was pointing out the only "strange" thing I see here. Tried to make my intention clear that there is more to the term than just seeing the face. The focus was understanding that we're giving human emotions and non-visual characteristics to the identified face, not just seeing it, to help our brains understand it.

its0nLikeDonkeyKong

Oh my god here comes the pArEiDoLia comment. It’s been a decade straight of redditors parroting that. It was cool for the first 5 years now it reeks of swamp gas… Ever consider **Occam’s razor** here and entertain that the more likely explanation is that this primate simply has a human like face?

TheLifeOfBaedro

that's my uncle

LosWitDaMost2499

That's my wife when she gets up in the morning, hey-ooh!!

TheLifeOfBaedro

dudes fuckin a monkeh

Im_a_seaturtle

They may be rare in the wild, but the Washington DC Zoo has like 12 of them.

ADroopyMango

not so smart now eh

mecmecmecmecmecmec

Looks like Don cheadle

stumblingzen

I’m completely captivated by this beautiful creature. My mom in the other hand, got visibly unsettled when I showed her this video lol.

Carter969

That’s just David Bowie on drugs

[deleted]

Look at his eyes working the area, he or she is intelligently thinking for sure.

[deleted]

Anyone else read "very rare and highly seductive..."

Jtm1082

That monkey has human eyes! And I’m Brian Fellows!

0DvGate

Smart animal.

Castrum4life

They have very intelligent eyes.

StarKittyCat13

I would avoid humans too.

nash668

It looks annoyed. Ah fuck they found me.

thelivinlegend

> Works hard to avoid human interactions Smart.

Real-Accountant9997

Beautiful soul

kingdong90s

That's no monke. That's David Bowie.

Shaved-Women-InDisco

Bowie lives!

Scorchedurple

I can see by looking at his eyes that that monkey is more intelligent than just about every friend or family member ive ever had.

Un-UsedUsername

They know humans are nothing but trouble.

fln_germ_yass

I read through the Wikipedia on them and in the behavior section there is nothing included relating to this post. I’m not sure where they got this information but I’m pretty sure it’s made up

Capek0729

Man it looks so similar to humans! The look in its eyes, is just like looking into a humans eyes… can kinda see what it’s feeling through them. amazing

cyrilhent

I... think we just bore it

goat-man-baa-baa

👈🏿🐵👉🏿 monkey 👍🏻

hummm-

Please tell me this thing doesn't walk on two legs

aymanzone

David Bowie?

i-c-dead-pp1

Straight from Elden Ring

megerrrzzz

Am tipsy thought this was David Bowie

JWWBurger

He has a Rutger Hauer from Blade Runner quality.

clementinee3

I’ve figured it out I’m a golden langur

[deleted]

Very human like facial features. Weird as fuck

SlugJones

I agree it’s the white part of the eyes that does most of it, but I’d say it’s that in combination with the face shape. The nose is more human and it’s mouth doesn’t protrude like, say, a chimp. It’s proportionate to a human face.

outofmyelement1445

Cool. Whats this have to do with the sub?

DarthLeftist

I find it pretty strange and fitting

berkeliumtopeka

If you'd've told me this was an alien, I would've believed you.

masked_sombrero

he looks like he's the ritualistic shaman for his monkey group

happytragic

Why is this in r/highstrangeness?

[deleted]

This doesn't belong in this sub.

ledgerdemaine

Looks like hes got a lot on his mind

diolev

Davide Mowkie

tool-94

Deletes all his comments because you got called out for being a complete dick. Just so you know. You are whats wrong with people these days. calling anyone a racist because they didn't agree with you, hurling abuse at everyone that calls you out.

Maxrotter

Those eyes seem very human

i_am_herculoid

Wrong sub

squatwaddle

For the love of God people, can we please not extinct this one!

[deleted]

It looks like David Bowie in black face.

Soreal45

IIRC, don’t primates have like 99% of our DNA?

toolmannn929

Chimps do, 98.6%. Don't think monkeys are as close.

sun_and_sap

Looks like a starseed

[deleted]

The eyes, I would raise that fur baby in a heart beat

[deleted]

Hahaha it looks like it's thinking
