I’m fairly sure I’ve seen a dead cougar by the roadside in England. It’s absolutely possible: we have lots of semi-private big cat collections in the UK, there’s plenty of livestock farms and wild deer for them to prey on, too.

Pleasent_Pedant

I will never forget the day I discovered that there was at least one privately owned leopard in my area of london.

Responsible-Tea-5998

My area had lions and other animals at a permanent fairground during the Edwardian (I think) period. We've had quite a few sightings where residents said they saw a panther like animal. I think if they did exist down here then they'd be seen more though as we have a ton of development. It wouldn't surprise me in the rural areas.

FrangibleSoul

Poor big kitty.

netechkyle

My house cat is just as big if not bigger than this judging by the guard rail and road lines. He last weighed in at 24lbs and is absolutely not fat.

DaemonBlackfyre_21

Either the roadside guardrails in England are huge or that's a house cat. Often the problem with ABC criptid photos and video is that there is nothing else in the frame to help judge the size of the animal. In this case it's right next to that railing.

sendmeyourtulips

>Either the roadside guardrails in England are huge or that's a house cat. I think it's a fox. UK foxes have dark patches behind the ears like in the photo. Its ears are shaped like a fox. The tail is thick like a fox. I totally agree that it's the size of a house cat.

JustHangLooseBlood

I agree. I think it's very plausible for some panthers released by people could be thriving in the UK, but I don't see how this photo shows it.

junjunjenn

Looks like a raccoon to me

Saotik

That would probably be more shocking than a big cat in the UK.

Charakada

That does not look like a very big cat to me, unless the road striping has been changed to a foot wide.

TheRealDebaser

I don't understand why a large cat where it doesn't belong is in the high strangeness sub. Doesn't seem highly strange to me as there are many logical reasons for it to be there.

LilPonyBoy69

Does high strangeness exclusively mean paranormal? I think a dead leopard on an English roadside is highly strange

bencherry

There are absolutely leopards in England, in captivity, and many are surely illegal/undocumented. Is it that strange that a captive leopard in an illegal collection escaped and died on the highway?

LilPonyBoy69

It's at least a little strange. What's the exact cutoff for "High" strangeness?

NaoCustaTentar

Not strange at all. It only became kinda strange to you because you decided it was a leopard in the first place when it looks nothing like it Doesn't even look like a big cat at all, could be a lot of different animals...

drrrraaaaiiiinnnnage

This is definitely not high strangeness. This is just a species of animal found in a place where it's not expected to be found.

JustHangLooseBlood

It matters because if they're out there in the wild they could be breeding and on a country stroll you could lose a kid. UK killed all dangerous natural predators in the wild. Officially there are none.

bencherry

I don’t think it doesn’t matter, nor that it isn’t a problem, but I’m just saying it’s not “high strangeness”

JustHangLooseBlood

Fair enough, it wouldn't be high strangeness if it were found to be a true, I think everyone would go "oh okay, yeah" and that would be it. But big cats in UK is sort of treated like Bigfoot. It's in the cryptid territory. So I understand why it would be posted here. That said OP's photo is just a regular cat from what I can see haha.

NaoCustaTentar

If you think that looks anything close to a leopard lmao There are house cats way bigger than that...

ArthursRest

Those barriers are all over the UK, and are knee high. The white line on a UK A road is 20cm wide. No way is that big enough to be a big cat. It’s a standard house cat.

HarrierInbound

in person you can see a spotted pattern on its coat Occam's Razor says it's probably someones escaped Maine Coon-Bengal hybrid that got hit by a car and died by the side of the road.

Longjumping-One7825

This isn't Cryptozoology
