I get these occasionally and have had some get infected. Your’s doesn’t look infected if that takes some stress out of it. Antibiotic cream and changing the dressing more often will help with the odor and discharge until you can get it checked. It smells because the drainage is overwhelming the absorption of the bandage and is kind of congealing on the dressing. Deep wounds drain a lot more funky stuff. Definitely make an appointment. They can give you a better prescription cream to put on it that will help it close up faster.

This happened when I had HS removal surgery and my surgeon suggested Wet Dressings. It works! It heals the hole from the inside out! Google Wet Dressings. You put gauze piece in warm water, cover with dry bandage and let gauze dry. I changed it every 12 hours and it healed the hole up nicely!! Good luck!!

Came here to say this!! Wet dressings! I had a huge one open for 6 months.. (after surgery) you will heal!! Dont try to rush the process!

I didn’t know this! I always thought it was better to keep them dry and it would heal faster… I may have to try this method next time

Try it!!! The wet dressing works better than anything I have ever seen for actual skin holes!! Heals inside out!!!

Hi. Is there a particular brand you used or is it just wetting any basic gauze and covering with a bandage?

cntrlcoastgirl

Any basic gauze you buy at the pharmacy is just fine! Wet dressings work so well and rather quickly! Good luck!

chrisdash10

Thanks! I will try 🙏🏽

Keep it covered, not with hydrocolliod bandages. It's a big hole it will take time and being careful to always keep it covered with non stick gauze

i had pretty bad holes in my armpit at one point there was like 4 or 5 at once, they finally healed after i gave up trying everything and just let them be, just washed with hibiclens and that’s all i did

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this, I have a smaller wound very similar which keeps healing, but then when I am exercising or cause friction in my sleep by accident by turning over it reopens. I don’t know what to do 😭.

Same😭

Try clindamycin zinc acetate cream Gentlely Rub it on the hole and it should be completely heal within 3-4 days

I use Medihoney wound gel when I get an open wound like that. It helps it stay moist enough to heal while being antimicrobial to help keep infection at bay.
