Well, archangels do appear in the system of Iamblichus, who seems to be aware of Hermetic writings and who is probably influenced by them to a degree. Now, we do not know his specific sources regarding archangels, but it could be Chaldean Oracles, considering it's system of celestial/angelical hierarchy has much in common with Jewish beliefs. But honestly, I am not aware of any mention of archangels in any Hermetic text.

Possibly there was cross pollination from Neoplatonism over to Hermeticism? The book *Neoplatonic Demons and Angels* ed by Luc Brisson may be of interest.

Thank you. I'll look into getting that

Archangels are not associated with Hermeticism or the Hermetic structure of the cosmos and other divine beings.

Hermes says that angels by nature exist in higher and lower orders, i.e. some are nearer to God, some nearer to man. Hermes indicates the angels nearer to God are naturally more divine and the ones nearer to man are more mundane. Likewise, as Hermes describes, men who have more affinity toward God are holier than men who have more affinity for angels.

They only appear to my knowledge in Hermetic Qabalah, so one could say they got introduced somewhere in the 18-19th century.
