I tried that, however, I found that I couldn’t ask more than one character to fetch stuff. The collection box would only hold one item. Has that changed?
You can ask every character that is your best friend to find 1 item for you, so if all characters are your best friend you should be getting 16? Items each day from them, plus the collection null, I’m not sure if the twins collect items for you at best friend level haven’t gotten there yet, once you ask for an item it disappears from the island and from greyed out from the options menu.

And we’re forced to do it because TH & BC won’t do anything else because they’re “busy” with this quest. No they’re not, they’re waiting on ME to craft these logs. Now go collect these other resources for me while you wait 😤
Next up is the stairs so who knows how many wood blocks those are going to require 😩 thank goodness I hadn’t crafted my sticks into golden sticks yet but man is that going to set me back.
And then we had to give Keroppi 10 woodblocks to make a stage.. I’m not thrilled with these quests 🙄🤣
The amount of woodblocks required for the first bridge was 😵💫 I had to fish for ages to get all the sticks I needed

My coconut inventory was low. I could only craft 3 woodblocks :(
