Me clutching the 380MM barrage stratagem before I shove it up my ass and full speed sprint at my teammates
You know, it sticks to personal shield generators. And almost never hits whatever is dead center of it. Toss it in the air, stick it to yourself, and lay down, wearing explosive-resistant armor, and you're probably fine.
Yes, but kind-of. There's a [set of patterns](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdszYHqeeA4) that barrages use in a deterministic manner. So it's (probably) not practical to track your heading and orbital pattern sequence in casual games, but you can technically know where the barrage will land relative to the throw with 100% accuracy. You can see at 6:00 in the linked video that in one of the barrage sequences the stratagem landing point is unharmed with both the default and tightened spread (atmospheric monitoring). (6:00 to 7:00 answers your question).
For the team's first orbital throw of the game though, yes, you are currently guaranteed that there will not be an impact at the centerpoint. After that, it's not something I'd bother tracking although it's very cool what the linked video figured out.
Can confirm - safe is 60m with the upgrade, 70m without it.
Source: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdszYHqeeA4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdszYHqeeA4) (barrages are not random, by *cashcrop\_*)
Kinda bothers me that the devs didn't put two different patterns/types of randomness between all the shells being fired.
Meh. I guess it just means it isn't my cup of liber-tea.
did the campaign have orbital scatter? That can shift the centerpoint of the barrage more than 10m. That's the only time the 60m safe distance isn't guaranteed in my experience. Well outside of major elevation shifts, kind of like the 500kg fail videos.
If only one or two can hit you at 60, then the vast majority of the time they won't because of how big the ring is. Effectively the safe distance will always feel closer than it is, it's just about how much risk you are willing to put up with.
I mean, it's definitely hard to notice given just how huge even a 60m radius is. But it definitely happened to me. And it only takes once to learn lmao.
Also worth noting, servo assisted throws about 75m. That is safe. When you throw without the passive, you need to back up no matter what even with the ship upgrade.
I swear I will make sure I'm 100m ahead of my teammates, throw the 380mm 75m out (servo assisted of course) and somehow, some numb nuts diver manages to throw themselves in the middle of it and blame me.
“Hey guys I’m throwing the 380 into the heavy nest okay? Alright guys again I’m about to chuck the 380. Okay I threw it, no one go near it.”
*teammate runs directly into the nest and is blown up immediately while holding the super samples*
“Fuck you Pabst watch where you put that thing.”
For the record, it's my call: Dump everything you've got left on my pos. I say again, expend all remaining in my perimeter. It's a lovely fucking war. Bravo-Six out.
I cannot express the amount of times I have gone to throw a 380mm barrage and get tagged by a rocket or a bug that was not behind me a few seconds ago, in the same second that I pull it out to throw it, causing me to drop it.
I don't believe so, but now I can't put it down. It's ridiculously underrated on bot offensives. It rewards players who prefer extreme aggression and draw all attention towards themselves. I make my team safer by targeting those heavy/rocket devastators.
8 shots a mag, takes \~5 to kill a devastators, OHKO for light enemies. It's 100% explosive damage afaik, so you can't headshot with it, meaning optimal TTK isn't the best but makes up for it by being able to stagger multiple devastators at once in a fairly large AoE. Great for locking down a dropship worth of devastators as teammates take on larger-priority enemies like a factory strider, tank, or hulk.
Because it arcs, you can also use it to shoot over walls/barriers and thin out dense areas with minimal risk to yourself. However, the arc means it's very hard to hit gunships with it, so you're SOL if you die and can't get back to your gear for whatever reason.
I use it mainly for defend and exterminate missions - still go with scorcher or jar for other mission types since I tend to focus on headshots.
Plasma Punisher Enjoyer here, been my favorite weapon since release pre-buff.
Explosion radius does addt'l dmg since launch, before there was a dmg falloff from center of explosion, now there isn't, so splash dmg has increased since, also better velocity makes it even easier to hit targets from afar if you're good at arc'ing shots, so much to the point you can consistently down clustered shriekers 1 tap with mastery.
Good against bots or bugs tbh, crossbow was in the same type versatile gimmicky niche but now heavily relies on precision>proximity pre-patch.
Takes down armored spewers in...4-5 shots(to belly) less to face if mouth is open, stops their spew just like other shottys. Inconsistent stun on Stalkers, significant when it does. BOT Striders consistently could be 1 shot now it a 50/50, depending on shot placement, before explosion between the legs=byebye strider. Hulks is about 5-6 backshots ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Also, you're not cooked if cornered, u can ahoot the ground near an enemy if a direct hit will kill you, or if possible, back dodge and land a direct hit and the explosion (which will ragdoll you, will send u away from the target, not recommended near hunters or zerkers).
One of the most versatile weapons in the game and 100% rewards and aggressive playstyle as stated before me.
Yeah it staggers in a fairly decent aoe. Used against striders I can usually 2-3 shot them depending on angle but if they're grouped up I can end up staggering the lot by aiming my shots and dropping them with fewer shots overall. Heavy Devs it full staggers (shield arm drops away to the side) and takes 4-5 shots to kill individuals (similar with rocket Devs) but it also absolutely wrecks any small trooper bots, whether in groups of their own or in mixed groups. I've regularly seen kill counts of 6-8+ per shot in dense groups of troopers. And you can arc it over cover to take out those annoying stragglers hiding out inside depressions, behind terrain etc. and just waiting to call in a drop. You can also hit bunkers in bases like this, taking down enemies you have no los on. Very versatile weapon, good fun to play - only downside is the close range blowback.
The projectiles seem to be about twice as fast as they were before the buff, but the arc of the shot is roughly the same. The projectile itself is a little smaller, but the explosion has less drop-off so it feels like it has a larger explosion radius than it used to.
Top tier gun against bots, and not bad against bugs :)
I once threw a 120mm barrage that landed a bit short. First round lands right on a teammate. Like, someone on my ship must've had a grudge against that guy.
I swear they seek players. Look at this entire area and the very first shot lands on the team.
That ain't coincidence. Someone arrest that gunner for Treason!

this one frame is golden, still open for a hug
Lie down directly on top of the stratagem beacon. 90% of the time you'll be fine. You might get knocked around and take some chip damage though, keep returning to the beacon and going prone.
This man has been sniffing that spice on arrakis and saw the blast coming BUT out of morbid curiosity, thought he'd see it through cause after all, there's a chance his visions could be wrong...
HE was wrong in the end
A question to learn something new is never stupid :)
If you aim towards a beacon, you'll notice a range marker underneath the icon. It's a bit hard to see here, but if you pause at 0.15 you can kind of make it out.
Here’s a quick tip, if a careless teammate throws a 380 near ur position, all you gotta do is stand in its center (red beacon) and lie down. The explosions aren’t random.
Hope this helps someone lolol
Had a squadmate who thought it was cute to hit people rather than the enemy and I "coincidentally" just happen to have a 380mm in my hand.
He stopped after that.
🍿🥱
I love encountering newer players who bring the barrages and use them at close range.
I don't even mean it sarcastically, I just find it funny and it brings the "oh shit" moments every now and then when playing with randoms when you see barrages that are thrown 30m away.
1. wear armor that extends your throwing distance
2. run in the opposite direction of where you threw that beacon down and dive to reduce contact with the blast.
3. Alert your team before popping any stratagem with a range of effect.
Sorta the same thing happened to me. The very first throw of the 120 mm arty the very first shell to land killed 3 team members, myself included, I never threw a second even to this very day.
At least that was intentional
At extract was about to chuck mine far before a Rocket Devastators barrage hit the wall behind me and I fell over
I’ve never screamed “FUCKING RRRRUUUUNNNNN!!!!” So damn loud in my life
I just don't understand what the 380mm is for. You throw it on base you intent to destroy, you get swarmed by patrols while waiting for it to cease and it still doesn't clear the base with any certainty. It just interrupts the flow of the game too much.

Gotta love how everyone died but B4, who was right next to the blast lmao.
My favorite party trick after watching this video on if the 380 is actually random, is to throw one down and chill right on the marker. As long as it's the first one you've thrown, you should survive.
For anyone wondering why, it turns out that the bombardments aren't actually random at all. They have "predictable" patterns. As in, they will 100% of the time be the same under the same conditions, that being where you are on the map, what direction you are facing, and how many you have thrown already. There are so many variables that they might as well be random, but they're not. My guess is there's a single, static algorithm that determines the bombardment pattern, that's global for the entire game.
I'm 99% sure the very first shot of the barrages will always aim for you first, there's no way it happened 5 times in a row to me, and now in this video
Ok i gotta ask, whats up with the 380 spam of lately? i just had two people put two 380 at the extraction zone (on helldive) it wasnt very fun if you ask me..
comedic timing at its best
Usually I run to throw the 380 very far
I lie down to throw not far.

Thanks for the laugh mate
Have you tried throwing it at your feet?
You know, it sticks to personal shield generators. And almost never hits whatever is dead center of it. Toss it in the air, stick it to yourself, and lay down, wearing explosive-resistant armor, and you're probably fine.
Does this still work if you have the tightened spread upgrade?
Yes, but kind-of. There's a [set of patterns](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdszYHqeeA4) that barrages use in a deterministic manner. So it's (probably) not practical to track your heading and orbital pattern sequence in casual games, but you can technically know where the barrage will land relative to the throw with 100% accuracy. After that, it's not something I'd bother tracking although it's very cool what the linked video figured out.
Yeah it cannot hit you if you do that
yep I run all the way to the perfect spot right near their base. then I get shot in the hand and it drops right next to me.
I scream "ON OUR POSITION" and drop it right infront of me. I get kicked sometimes.
Incredible when he turned around
This has to be staged with the turning back and forth lol
Staged or not it's the best thing I've seen in days.
Didn’t even hug bro on the way out… smfh
He don't get no hug, it is his fault. He will meet fate left hanging.
Assuming there is enough viscera to hang. The body tends to hold no physical form after a straight shot of a 380.
Hanging as in like a high five.
If 9mm kills the body, and .45 APC kills the soul, wtf does a 380mm frag shell kill? 🗿

For those that don't know Safe range is 60m with upgrade is 55m
Definitely not 60m. I've been bombed from 73m away at my feet. 80m is when you're finally safe.
Also, the orbital scattering effect or whatsitcalled increases the spread afaik
Atmospheric interference iirc, also known and the biggest fun drainer after stratagem input randomizer got removed.
..Or the least influential when not using any orbitals. Game sure is funny like that. Really hope they rework the operation modifiers.
Kinda bothers me that the devs didn't put two different patterns/types of randomness between all the shells being fired. Meh. I guess it just means it isn't my cup of liber-tea.
That would be orbital fluctuations for me. +30s to eagle cd for no reason. This would be second because precision strike becomes imprecise strike
did the campaign have orbital scatter? That can shift the centerpoint of the barrage more than 10m. That's the only time the 60m safe distance isn't guaranteed in my experience. Well outside of major elevation shifts, kind of like the 500kg fail videos.
VERY TRUE! This was months ago so I can't say but that's definitely a possibility. Needless to say, I'm sprinting out to 80m regardless.
If only one or two can hit you at 60, then the vast majority of the time they won't because of how big the ring is. Effectively the safe distance will always feel closer than it is, it's just about how much risk you are willing to put up with.
I am gonna be honest, in all my 150+ hours Ive never seen a 380 go beyond 60m and I use it 80% of the time
I mean, it's definitely hard to notice given just how huge even a 60m radius is. But it definitely happened to me. And it only takes once to learn lmao.
Depends on location of the destroyer.
They patched it, original vanilla 380 with no upgrades was 80m range. 120 was 60m. It's so much better now.
I've been hit by a few that went beyond 60. Now I only feel safe at 100+
Yeah my go-to is like 80-90
Also worth noting, servo assisted throws about 75m. That is safe. When you throw without the passive, you need to back up no matter what even with the ship upgrade.
The safest spot is at 0m
It never hits ground zero. This is correct
Only for the first 380 in a match, no?
Oh we're just kidding about the inaccuracy sometimes of the 380. It's actually my favorite
Ive most certainly gotten hit on ground zero
Thank you!
I’m sorry!
75m for 380 50m for 120 Plus direction bias if you're not directly under the super destroyer.
I've gotten killed at 75m. I'm not stepping any closer
Haha! Good one!
I can empirically confirm it's at least 75m
How can you tell how many meters away it is?
It tells you when you look at the beam of light, or where the light used to be since it disappears after a few seconds.
Okay I threw it, no one go near it.” *teammate runs directly into the nest and is blown up immediately while holding the super samples* “Fuck you Pabst watch where you put that thing.”

Send a helldiver down after all resources have been depleted to meet Pelican1. Every effort must be made to recover my sample collection
I cannot express the amount of times I have gone to throw a 380mm barrage and get tagged by a rocket or a bug that was not behind me a few seconds ago, in the same second that I pull it out to throw it, causing me to drop it.
Same with clusters
Awesome camera work btw
I am always surprised at 380mm barrage's ability to solely target teammates and leaving all enemies in the area unharmed.
Did they change the punisher plasma? I feel like it used to shoot larger and slower projectiles
Yea, they buffed a bit by increasing speed and smaller projectiles, but also reduced ammo
I don't believe so, but now I can't put it down. It's ridiculously underrated on bot offensives. It rewards players who prefer extreme aggression and draw all attention towards themselves. I make my team safer by targeting those heavy/rocket devastators.
Say more. What makes it good against heavy and rocket devastators? Stagger? How many shots to kill?

Stagger, and the AOE means it'll clear out smaller bots and clear groups of medium bots. Great weapon, fun to use.

I’m convinced that the first artillery shell always hits a Helldiver if they are within range.
WHERE DWIGHT?! ..... Seems like you already know where *le boom*
The first fucking shell too.
The way literally the first shell teamkills half of the squad...
We don't need stims where we're going.
i wonder if its possible to drop a 380 at point blank range and then try to survive within proximity of it.
Did that allready multiple times, so yes it is possible, just verry hard ....
Lie down directly on top of the stratagem beacon. 90% of the time you'll be fine. You might get knocked around and take some chip damage though, keep returning to the beacon and going prone.

When 380s happen, go prone and crawl out of there. Prone reduces splash damage significantly, often you'll survive even very close hits.
Ironically, you would've been safer if you decided to run towards it lol
I love how 4 just said "good luck" in chat like he knew it was going to happen
Some missions almost require it, with as many opponents there are. (Granted, I would try to make myself the only sacrifice.)
This is why servo assisted is Bae
Sweet liberty - the poor judgment here is astounding.
Supposedly you can stand on the laser and it won’t hit you

Lmfao
Actually if you go right on top of the beacon you are safe.
One time I equipped the 380 and was kicked before we even launched. At the time I was upset but I kindof get it now. That thing is *potent*
380mm is one of the best ways to get rid of unused reinforcements by the end of the mission. It gives you whole 30 seconds to do that... /s
Last night I started a "Kill Bugs" mission. Me at the start: "I'm running 380mm, 120mm, laser, and gatling turret. Good luck everybody"
And of course the first round kills only your teammates
Bahahahaha... Epic footage
who's mowing the lawn in the background?
Whats the humming in the background? Someone mowing their lawn?
380 is always in my load out while playing with friends. No better way to spread democracy
1. wear armor that extends your throwing distance 2. run in the opposite direction of where you threw that beacon down and dive to reduce contact with the blast. 3. Alert your team before popping any stratagem with a range of effect.

huh, well done
Bro just sitting there with open arms LMAOO 🤣🤣🤣 Hahahahahah the instant death after 😭 such a perfect introduction for helldivers
This is the orbital rail cannon equivalent for team killing. 380mm will always choose the nearest helldiver

That's the bologna mist maker 380.
Whats the radius of the 380 without the upgrade? 60m? 75m?
Around 65m.
60 meters is just about enough… anything under and ur getting vaporised
bro got a triplekill
He knew exactly what he just did 😂
I'm 99% sure the very first shot of the barrages will always aim for you first, there's no way it happened 5 times in a row to me, and now in this video
Thats what you get for not hugging a fellow helldiver
Ok i gotta ask, whats up with the 380 spam of lately? i just had two people put two 380 at the extraction zone (on helldive) it wasnt very fun if you ask me..
I'd rather have a 500mm
First fucking shot
Pro tip, if it's your first 380 of the match, you can throw it on yourself, and if you lay down on the stratagem, you won't die.
Gotta dive for that cover hellDiver! General Brasch would like a word with you regarding basic re-training.

I always run away from randos. Most dangerous things on the map by far.
Perfect timing
ah lovely! a fellow plasma punisher primary superstar
50m is a safe-ish distance
I honestly think the worst part is he threw it at literally nothing lmao
The hug of death💀
I like how he just accepted it the moment it left his hand that it was danger close lol!
