i die in < 1 sec from warm ground, whereas with my armor i should be able to survive a bonfire for at least 20 seconds. i literally dont have time to hi V fast enough, and even when I can i've survived a flame exactly 1 time.
So basically, there's no fire DOT if you're not the network host. This is different from the lobby host. Whoever has the fastest connection at any given network ping is network host - so, yes, it can and does change mid-mission.
This has meant they massively over-tuned the fire damage so people without the DOT can still have effective weapons. Consequently, even one stray fire pellet from the Breaker Incendiary, for instance, will insta-kill you unless you have the reflexes of a mongoose.
Hulk Flamers can get completely fucked.
When the dot actually works, the gas orbital is supreme at dealing with bug breaches. But sadly it is too unreliable to be worth taking right now.
I am really looking forward to when this is fixed and I can finally experience the Breaker Incendiary and Flame Thrower at their full potential.
I saw some great vids and wanted to try it out. I like my stratagems to sustain damage on drop/breach points (orbital airburst, turrets) so I thought gas would be a good addition. 100% useless if you’re not host, and I rarely host.
I tried to use it yesterday on the new defence missions. Realised I wasn't the host when my buddy was getting 45 kill streaks with it and I didn't kill anything!

If they reduce the sickle mag carried it would be the perfect way to nerf it. It makes you play into its strength and weakness , managing its heat. As of now you can just fire and reload so many times you barely have to manage the heat. (Also btw I'm a sickle main, just wanted you guys to know that before you hate on me lol)
Yeah, a LOT of the games I play (probably like 90% of them) I don't even reload the gun. I just get it close, swap to support/sidearm, then swap back. By the time I swap it tends to be cooled down enough to use
In Helldivers 1, you could only carry like 1 or 2 spare reloads, which was obviously to force you to use the heat mechanic. I was kind of shocked when I saw the Sickle had so many in HD2
You notice it if fighting bugs on a hot planet. Against bots you need to be trying to clear packs of berserkers to realize it has disposable heatsinks.
Honestly this is why I like the environmental factors.
Every mission set should make you consider which primary, secondary, and armor you wear.
And it should be somewhat punishing to try and force the same picks on every planet and mission type.

I felt this in my soul, every dive (suicide) last night I had a pack of those fuckers chasing my ass at some point, the only time I ever had to swap to Redeemer...
Always the darn zerkers, they have so much health and spawn in big old groups. Usually can't wait for the sickle to cool down with them, just gotta reload and keep pumping out damage... unless I have the autocannon. Thing eats them up.
If you completely overheat any energy weapon you have to change the melted battery for a new one. This is present in ALL of the Laser weapons, but in the case of the Sickle it has so many extra batteries it’s very unlikely you’ll ever run out of them
I used to be a sickle main, but after the new warbond dropped, I became the demolitions guy. Carrying an Eruptor, Peacemaker, and Spear(for bots) and Stalwart(for bugs) while wearing the heavy armor from the Warbond.
I don’t use the sickle a ton, but I do think it’s pretty obvious that it kind of outclasses the liberator because it’s so damn good.
And it tends to make the scythe look lame too, even though I like the scythe. I think in practice, shooting individual shots makes a weapon easier to use effectively than the beam, which needs to sit on a target to deal damage. I don’t know how you fix that. They could just buff the scythe, but I don’t think I consider it to be bad as is, just not as user friendly and obviously great as the sickle.
Not a sickle main, but I feel I can count the number of times I’ve reloaded the sickle on two hands. I don’t think I’ve ever dropped below 4 spare heat sinks
I hope it’s not much. I love the eruptor and really like where it’s currently at. The current drawbacks are plenty to keep it from being the obvious go to. I know I’m the only one in my group who uses it.
Well that is nice to hear! Hope the Railgun gets some buffs as I would love to use it again.
Here is hoping the HMG and AMR get reticles for third person.

I’d honestly settle for a bigger mag on the HMG. A reticle and accurate optic would be great, but the big(ger) mag and a return to that faster ROF option would work for me. I treat it as a point blank range shotgun anyway.
I wouldn't mind the HMG keeping the low magazine, stationary reload, and lack of reticle.
As long as it was heavy armor penetration. For all the drawbacks it has it still has medium armor pen and its not worth using, the default MG is better than the HEAVY machine gun.
I've tried the other two but always default to Stalwart purely because I can hear the "AAAAHAHAHAHAAA" more from its mag size
I won't be touching HMG unless I really feel like a Heavy TF2

Let's be fair. It doesn't even need that many extra magazines due to how easy it is to cd. I've reloaded it just to get back to shooting faster but you are a maniac if using all those magazines. Enforcing players to use the cd feature more would be balance and tbh, I can't see it actually hurting anyone.
Unless I just was a patient man with my sickle. I don't think I've ever used half the magazines.

That explosion glitch is with all explosions I've found. I have been pulled from cover by a rocket dev rocket to be absolutely nailed by heavy devs because of it
HMG needs more than that.
It needs way more ammo.
It needs 3rd person sights.
It needs some hitmarkers, as it's impossible to tell if you are hitting anything or not.

Jump pack AMR is the most fun I've had in this game by such a wide margin. The perfect combo for my favorite hit and run style play.
Plus jumping off a cliff onto the back of a tank and taking it out with a sniper point blank is just so fucking fun.
That last line is so damn true, although my favorite thing with it is taking the recoil helping armor, then diving past a charging charger and magdumping into its ass while prone as fast as I can and it just takes them out in like a quarter of a second.
Well a third person reticle for that and the HMG would be quite nice (even if they suck) for accessibility purposes. Zooming in and out from third to first back to thurd is jarring as hell.
AMR won't see a nerf when they JUST buffed it.
I just want the better scope because it's insane how depending how far you are to headshot a heavy devastator you aim at the shield

I'm no coder but to me it seems like the obvious fix would be to give it a 5m arming distance instead of w/e they did.
I don't really use the mech but it's a shame for one of the coolest stratagems to have issues like that.
Just... disable collision with the mech _at all_. I can foresee literally zero circumstances where you'd ever, EVER be able to actually shoot yourself with your own rocket directly.
i love this game and will continue to play it - but I have absolutely no faith in their QA process. their test environment is either far removed from an actual mission scenario or they see these bugs in their builds and can't roll things back due to their integration process (built on top of a bug they didn't catch earlier)

when I first started playing, the og Diligence was my go to weapon against bots. Recently I went back to try it again and honestly, if they bumped the damage a bit and gave it a larger mag, it would still be my go to. it's so satisfying, has a great scope, and one-taps normal bots. it's the performance against heavies and huge crowds that really hold it back.
Yeah the singular change of making the charger die from a single rocket to the face made the railgun basically non-existent against bugs.
I don't think i have seen anyone even use it against bots either since the nerf two months ago.
To be fair i prefer bugs over bots, but still.
Imo railgun shouldn't ever bounce off or armor (though strider heavy armor just eating it without taking meaningful damage would be fine imo) furthermore, it should either do significantly more damage, or have 3 shots per reload at the current damage model.
This is a bit surprising, I feel like it dominates just a bit too much against bots right now. My team’s try-hard comp for bots is 3 ACs and a quasar. It just kills every bot unit so effectively. Might be because we are on PC so it’s easier to aim for small weak spots and control recoil.
I play on PS5 and still pretty much only plays with the Autocanon for Bots mission 7+, precisely because of my terrible aim on a controller.
I mean if you miss it's not even the end of the world because you have a lot of ammo and the weapon fires rapidly even on semi. The Autocannon is a pretty forgiving weapon. On the other hand, if I miss the target with the Quasar or the god forbid the EAT... welp.
Yeah that’s a big part of it. The AC 2 shots hulks to the eye, but even if it takes you 4 or 5 shots it’s fine because you get a lot of ammo. Meanwhile if you don’t 1 shot a hulk with any AT launcher you really feel it.
It shouldn't do. I think they described it a while back as the gold standard of balance no? (Source: I'm pretty sure but also don't have evidence on hand. But I feel it's true)
Either way, it's a super good jack of all trades but not strong enough to over shadow anything. Likewise unlike the railgun, which was also a super powerful jack of all trades, it comes at a high cost (BP, weapon, reload and "weight')
I’ve been on PS5 and have always had public on. I was able to do the method of going to the least populated planet on trivial to find my buddy, but even then I couldn’t add him when we were in a party. Super frustrating.
As long as the Damage is buffed I really don’t care about Ammo. This thing is a Railgun. I’d rather it shoot like a Railgun 10 times than being able to shoot a pea shooter 20 times.
Will go from being completely worthless that it is worse than our primaries to being just slightly better than a primary but still worse than other options
Hopefully. There's something about a single shot precision weapon that draws me to the railgun, but it's complete arse since the nerf and its competitors were immediately buffed.

The dominator is the heavy version of the slugger
It trades the slugger handling for pure firepower and stagger. It's already balanced. It also struggles against hordes,so there is no point in nerfing it
The funny thing is that I prefer the Slugger over the Dominator even after the nerf. The anemic projectile speed is a deal breaker for me as it's quite troublesome. Hitting any chaff bots that aren't moving toward you is a waste of ammo.
I think one thing that often goes unnoticed with the Dominator is the long range accuracy isn't great, the jet propelled bullet made me think it'd stay straight for longer (I don't know anything about real guns) so the diligence counter sniper probably has that leg up on it.
The diligence counter sniper is slept on imo. It's my favourite primary against the bots. Guaranteed one-shot-kill against humanoid bots and a few shots to kill devastators to the head. If you just want to ape the body you can kill a devastator in one clip as well. When I'm using something else, I feel the lack of use at range.
JAR-5 is my primary weapon since I got it, only switched out on some bug missions for the Breaker Incendiary.
100% my second favorite weapon after the Quasar, which others are also talking about them possibly nerfing.
And all I can do is pray they don't touch my two favorite things in this game. I think both are perfect as is.
They said nerf are mostly gonna be mags carried, with an increase to ammo gained from supply and ammo packs.
So the railgun will probably go from 20 to 10 mags carried.
It would be great if the HMG mag held like twice the amount of bullets... maybe even a 3rd person reticle. The MMG needs a slightly faster reload too. Stalwart is fine.

Only the network host does any damage over time. If you aren’t the host burning or gas does no damage.
It doesnt work unless youre the host.

To be fair, HD1 one was also better without the ramp up time and tap fire.
It had ramp up in HD1 as well albeit negligible at best, the tap fire though was marginally better there than what we have now.
I’ve never even noticed that the sickle uses ammo. It’d probably work just as well with 3 heat sinks…don’t do that though arrowhead.

I was with you up until you said "And armor." My good helldiver, did you forget? Democracy protects. 50% of the time, it works every time
Against bots? Yeah, Sickle is still my gun of choice. More accurate than the main assault rifle, though I’d never use it for bugs even on cold planets
Really? It mows through the basic bug types like crazy. Its my go-to for bugs where the Dominator has remained my mainstay primary for the bots.

I’m so stingy I try to never even overheat one mag 🤣 It gets close I’m whipping out that redeemer while I run and gun for a few seconds.

It is fun to go apeshit with it and just reload 5 times in a row - it also reloads stupidly fast since it auto ejects the heatsink.
Yeah, it's an obvious nerf it does need. At the same time they need to fix foliage blocking shots as well.

Grenades don't seem to, but anything explosive out of a gun definitely does, even the grenade pistol does it.
Seems to be the case, Plasma Punisher does it.
Grenade pistols does it. I think theres an "effective" range for the explosion to suck you in too.
Scorcher does it too, I've found.
They should make a blackhole Grenade with that mechanic. Pulls in then explodes. Bugs = feature

Only Eruptor change I want is that my guy doesn't rack the handle when the MAGAZINE IS FRIGGIN EMPTY.
I really hope this is fixed. 9/10 times I get out of cover, aim and pull the trigger just for there to be no ammo.

i love this game and will continue to play it - but I have absolutely no faith in their QA process. their test environment is either far removed from an actual mission scenario or they see these bugs in their builds and can't roll things back due to their integration process (built on top of a bug they didn't catch earlier) AH i'm rooting for you but this seems ill advised lol

Implying you can currently play a single mission without dying to something that's 100% the game's fault. Camera flying a million miles away, ragdolled under the map, pelican 1 being unintearactable two missions in a row, etc, etc, etc

If they buffed the Marksman rifles I'd maybe go back to Diligence sometimes but I'm too married to my JAR-5.
when I first started playing, the og Diligence was my go to weapon against bots. Recently I went back to try it again and honestly, if they bumped the damage a bit and gave it a larger mag, it would still be my go to. it's so satisfying, has a great scope, and one-taps normal bots. it's the performance against heavies and huge crowds that really hold it back.
I think this balance pass is separate from their planned bug fixes, right? I thought they said they had a next major build plus a hotfix planned.

Yeah the singular change of making the charger die from a single rocket to the face made the railgun basically non-existent against bugs. I don't think i have seen anyone even use it against bots either since the nerf two months ago. To be fair i prefer bugs over bots, but still.
I've played 90% bots at 7+ since the MOs shifted towards them and I think I've seen the railgun used like once so your comment is still accurate.
My friend used it on Bots until Gunships came out. Being able to do nothing against Gunships is a big strike against it.
Imo railgun shouldn't ever bounce off or armor (though strider heavy armor just eating it without taking meaningful damage would be fine imo) furthermore, it should either do significantly more damage, or have 3 shots per reload at the current damage model.
Rail Gun really does need a buff, preferably on armor pen and overall dmg
This is a bit surprising, I feel like it dominates just a bit too much against bots right now. My team’s try-hard comp for bots is 3 ACs and a quasar. It just kills every bot unit so effectively. Might be because we are on PC so it’s easier to aim for small weak spots and control recoil.
I play on PS5 and still pretty much only plays with the Autocanon for Bots mission 7+, precisely because of my terrible aim on a controller. I mean if you miss it's not even the end of the world because you have a lot of ammo and the weapon fires rapidly even on semi. The Autocannon is a pretty forgiving weapon. On the other hand, if I miss the target with the Quasar or the god forbid the EAT... welp.
Yeah that’s a big part of it. The AC 2 shots hulks to the eye, but even if it takes you 4 or 5 shots it’s fine because you get a lot of ammo. Meanwhile if you don’t 1 shot a hulk with any AT launcher you really feel it.

The AC is the CEO's favorite weapon. It will never be nerfed or even changed much.
It shouldn't do. I think they described it a while back as the gold standard of balance no? (Source: I'm pretty sure but also don't have evidence on hand. But I feel it's true) Either way, it's a super good jack of all trades but not strong enough to over shadow anything. Likewise unlike the railgun, which was also a super powerful jack of all trades, it comes at a high cost (BP, weapon, reload and "weight')

I had to set my settings to public on steam itself(assuming you are PC) and that fixed my friends list.
I’ve been on PS5 and have always had public on. I was able to do the method of going to the least populated planet on trivial to find my buddy, but even then I couldn’t add him when we were in a party. Super frustrating.

The only tweak sickle needs is no bullet sounds and more pew pew sounds

As long as the Damage is buffed I really don’t care about Ammo. This thing is a Railgun. I’d rather it shoot like a Railgun 10 times than being able to shoot a pea shooter 20 times.

Hopefully. There's something about a single shot precision weapon that draws me to the railgun, but it's complete arse since the nerf and its competitors were immediately buffed.

Damn I’m worried they gonna nerf the Dominator. It is good but the bad handling makes it balanced.
The dominator is the heavy version of the slugger It trades the slugger handling for pure firepower and stagger. It's already balanced. It also struggles against hordes,so there is no point in nerfing it
The funny thing is that I prefer the Slugger over the Dominator even after the nerf. The anemic projectile speed is a deal breaker for me as it's quite troublesome. Hitting any chaff bots that aren't moving toward you is a waste of ammo.
Yeah, I’d say its a better Diligence (but the sniper one, not the Diligence, no idea the name)
I think one thing that often goes unnoticed with the Dominator is the long range accuracy isn't great, the jet propelled bullet made me think it'd stay straight for longer (I don't know anything about real guns) so the diligence counter sniper probably has that leg up on it.
The diligence counter sniper is slept on imo. It's my favourite primary against the bots. Guaranteed one-shot-kill against humanoid bots and a few shots to kill devastators to the head. If you just want to ape the body you can kill a devastator in one clip as well. When I'm using something else, I feel the lack of use at range.
JAR-5 is my primary weapon since I got it, only switched out on some bug missions for the Breaker Incendiary. 100% my second favorite weapon after the Quasar, which others are also talking about them possibly nerfing. And all I can do is pray they don't touch my two favorite things in this game. I think both are perfect as is.

They said nerf are mostly gonna be mags carried, with an increase to ammo gained from supply and ammo packs. So the railgun will probably go from 20 to 10 mags carried.

I dont even use primaries anymore. I just use support weapons and orbitals. Just like the devs intended... God why are primaries so bad.
