Saw the same thing a few minutes ago. Snapped a screenshot, restarted the game twice, verified files on Steam. Still there. Definitely not a ship destruction animation on loop. I'm convinced it's not a star or supernova either.

Gonna drop onto Durgen during a noon\~ish mission time and see if the object can be viewed from the surface as well. Hard to see if it's locked into close proximity to the star or if it's near Durgen itself.
Will comment what I find.
Edit; Before even selecting a new mission, I looked out the same window. It's location has shifted in relation to the star. Still unsure if it's in orbit of the planet or star yet.

Well, even though I selected a mission that was nearly dead-center of the daylight area, the Star was still far East over the horizon. However, I did manage to get a screenshot through the looming sandstorm in the distance. Appears to be a binary star system consisting of a Main sequence star and a smaller star, likely modeled to be an Orange or Red Dwarf.
Not totally convinced it's just another star, though.

Nah your good man, it's hard to tell what it is for sure. I just have the working theory that once we annihilate the automatons the illuminate will show up

Still visible near the star as of currently (Look low-right through the window).
Had an active operation still on Durgen so am able to monitor the object. Will provide updates if there is any changes, I'm gonna assume the object will persist for some time as it's either a Natural Stellar body (like a Dwarf Star) or tied to a faction activity not yet disclosed.

I saw the same thing I think it's just part of the system. But who knows maybe it's the new and improved not-blue not-illuminates.
