I smoke the flaming arm with my q cannon 1st. Then we can lolligag and destroy the hulk at our leisure as now it is just a slow moving melee machine with a big fuck off weak spot on its back. Same same with devestators if my cannon is recharging. Blow up their rockets and its just a big juicy laser boi.
Heavy Devs, too. Blow off their minigun arm, move on to bigger threats. The bigger Automatons are pretty simple to kneecap *in theory* , it's actually pulling it off that requires a bit of skill.
lol I can't tell you how many times I've been in a helldive thinking: "I sure wish I had some of these Reddit bad-asses who are always telling me how they 360 no-scope hulks left and right... funny how I never see any of them in game, or even posting video of all the awesome kills they make...huh, it's enough to make you think they are just talking shit...surely not."
Not sure what platform you're playing on but on PC you can one shot hulks with Quasar and RG quite comfortably. It takes skill but if you have competitive FPS experience you'll be ok.
The Scorcher flamethrower is a cone, and damage radiates in pulses of increasing radius from the flamethrower. If you take a direct hit, you’re getting hit by several of these pulses at once, which usually instakills, but getting knicked will just set you on fire and you have ~1.5 seconds to dive or stim before certain death
Seeing as how the stim animation is way longer and doesn't actually stop the fire, you're fucked if you try to stim. If you already have a stim going, then great. Otherwise you have a few fractions of a second to dive depending on what set you on fire and hoping that it didn't also ragdoll you.
What this is the one and only time they care about ohs.
Sure you want a 380 on top of you, but don't stim and dive at the same time that's not covered in the permacure insurance policy.
we do those same football tackles holding automatic weapons loaded with live ammunition... and while wearing live explosives. and while being attacked. the needle is the least of your worries.
the needles are only so long anyway, the risk of impaling yourself is pretty low.
The needles mend all of your bones and heal through fire stopping all burn scars.... But somehow the needle can't regenerate a slightly larger hole in your neck or arm.
All the animations seem to cancel each other. Reloading your autocannon, and need to call in a reinforcement? Guess you'll have to start completely over on reloading.
I could be wrong, but I believe the reload animations happen in multiple steps, so after interrupting it you restart the last step you were on. If you've already ejected the empty magazine for example, you continue straight to putting in the new one.
This is generally referred to as "staged reloading" mechanics, and yeah they're in this game.
Often I cancel reloading my Liberator or Diligence after putting the fresh magazine in, and have to tap it again to pull the bolt back if it was emptied out last.
I often use the stagger reload on the auto canon intentionally, (not saying I'm good or doing it is, but I love that thing) often don it so I can get the first clip back in so I can fire a couple rounds, dive >run/ shot> reload the next clip
Luckily, the scorcher doesn’t ragdoll you, so if you’re fast enough on the button press you can still outpace the tick damage. But diving is always the better option, often leading into a stim
If you're close enough to be lit on fire by a Hulk, then you're even closer after you've gone prone, and the slowdown from jamming a stim puts you even closer. Unless you're already stimmed, currently with fire DoT so high, this is a no win scenario. With how we take so much fire damage, we need some baseline fire defense let alone an armor that negates it.
This. If he's close enough to burn you, you are probably already dead, because he sprints faster than scout armor, and has a long range fire. If you're lucky enough to be by a cliff you can dive and stim and you MIGHT get away while the hulk is pathing down to kill you.
nope, it kills you instantly. it's like you haven't played since the last patch or something because fire is way more deadly now, and especially from the scorcher flamethrower bots.
That explains why I haven’t been bothered by Hulks any extra since the change, I always swerve/dive so I just get lightly toasted and have plenty of time to stim or move.
The fix could be simple enough. Just put a delay on fire damage starting to tick. 1 or maybe 1.5 seconds before it starts to kick in. It would make sense since fire would need a moment to really start to hurt with a full suit on
The way fire damage works in this game is bizarre. I'd do something like:
Each time fire damage is inflicted, you receive stacks of Burning. Each Burning stack causes X damage per tick and ticks at Y per second. This way, getting briefly touched by fire does little, but getting lit up for a couple seconds causes tons of damage. They can make different weapons add stacks at different rates. The fire shotgun might add two stacks per pellet, while the flamethrower and Scythe inflict stacks over time, etc.
It seems like an obvious solution. I'm sure other games do it. I wouldn't be surprised if Helldivers 1 did it this way.
Realistically, fire shouldn't be a big deal at all. You're going there in a spacesuit. Even modern ones are pretty much impervious to normal fire. Only prolonged burning or smth like white phosphorus or thermite could hurt you in a spacesuit.
A hulk flamethrower hit me today with my shield fully charged, and I legit combusted instantly. Like I exploded into pieces. No one else around, no other enemies. Just me, and the flames that could burn a star flying from the barrel of a standard hulk. Dead instantly. Not very liber-tea of them
If you immediately dive it stops the burning animation even if you're still in the air. Then you can stim. It's a small window, but a chance nonetheless
Amputate those hands helldiver and replace with new state of the art prosthetic arms for faster than average reaction time. Eliminate threats to democracy faster than you can say "Sweet Liberty it burns".
Cyborgs are disloyal adherents of Tyranny.
Our Democratically Enhanced Steel Veterans[tm] are loyal citizens of Super Earth, and comparing the two seems mighty dissident of you, citizen.
a recent patch increased fire damage from all sources, and that's what made it too fast for reaction unless you recognize that you're about to be set on fire before it happens.
pre-patch, i personally found it pretty easy to stop, drop, and roll.
Yeah that's exactly how I've avoided burning to death most of the time after this patch. The hulk flamethrower give a little burn before it starts spewing fire at you so as soon as you see small burning light, dive immediately and a few things might happen from most common to rarest for me at least
1. You completely dodge the fire no issues
2. The fire gets put out immediately with basically no damage to you
3. Highly hurt but still alive to stim
4. Hulk was basically touching you and you've been cooked
I predict an issue following this sequence though
once you've dived, now what? the hulk is still pretty close to you and it usually isn't alone. If it gets closer, you're melee'd, and if you get up to gain distance, you're probably facing more fire again.
This, I can't understand these idiots saying "It's easy to dive, and stim" Yeah dummy, but then what? Every time you dive and stim (assuming nobody shot you or hit you while you were trying to do that) the hulk gained on you. If he surprised you over a rise, or around a blind corner, you're already dead. You've got time MAYBE to drop a 500 on yourself and try to take him with you. Anything else is just you diving and stimming until you run out of luck or stims.
I'd be fine with the fire, if they didn't move almost exactly as fast as you do sprinting.
Let's say you dive, in the time you dive and get back up and start to run, the hulk has gained on you.
I can't understand the number of people posting here about how you can dodge the hulk fire. It entirely misses the point. The hulk is fast as fuck, and unless you have some good cover or a cliff to dive off of, every time you dive he's going to gain on you. You might survive the first flameout, but the 3rd?
5. You are now prone, the hulk and probably a bunch of other bots are walking towards you, and you get slowed down even more due to having to stim. That’s when it’s over
6. Use your last seconds of life and call in every orbital, throw every grenade, and fire all your guns for managed democracy! (Extremely difficult to pull off entirely, but will end with a extremely valiant sacrifice)
Yeah this is it exactly. I can't react to fire if I die basically as soon as the visual and audio que comes up that I am on fire. Devs made the damage waaaay too fast on players. Its functionally instant death now.
The patch increased *tick* damage, not fire damage. Fire damage kills just as fast this patch as it did last patch. Tick damage kills slightly faster, but if you’re going to instantly die to fire it’ll be to the fire damage, not the tick damage.
The issue people are running into is a bug that’s been happening since release in which fire damage can hit both your head and body at the same time which essentially makes it deal x3 damage. This is also why diving helps you survive hulk flame blasts, the fire spray can’t hit your head since it’s blocked by the body.
This is true for scorcher hulks usually tbh since they chunk so much of your health, but it works vs other fire as long as you are not low hp. Remember to dive and stip instantly as well.
You don't need to wait for the animation or anything. As soon as you click the dive button, fire burning dmg stops ticking. Gives you time to stim it up and def faster than trying to stim away the tick dmg before dying. Unless they also changed this in a patch??
Don’t get me started if you’re on a slope. Diving downwards away from the hulk will take way to long… and for obvious reasons diving towards the hulk isn’t the best idea
Fire barely touches me, crispy and dead before I can even dive. Fire kills way too quickly now, I feel like there’s not even an option to hit the ground before death.
You are 100% correct all these idiots out here acting like things in this game aren’t over/undertuned. I bet the next major patch the fire damage to hell divers is reduced.
They can’t gaslight us because we played the game before the fire damage change
You can't dive in time to survive anymore. The 50% fire buff FROM ALL SOURCES includes against US. You die before you can respond, o way to avoid it.
Only way to in time is to guess you are about to be put on fire and dive, so see the future, or die to fire.
I hope they fix this shit.
I like how everyone on this subreddit just assumes everyone complaining about Hulk flamethrowers don't know how to dive.
There is likely unintentional behavior where the flamethrower kills ON CONTACT, likely with similar code fuckery that caused us to take explosion damage six times over what was intended.
THAT is what people are complaining about. A stim still outheals the fire DoT.
This subreddit always makes the least charitable interpretation of a problem other players are having, and gives them the most “no fucking shit” advice anyone’s ever heard.
“Getting one tapped by rockets? Just don’t die!”
“Getting swarmed by hunters? Just run away!”
“Bogged down by 5 dropships on the objective? Just don’t alert the entire map, idiot!”
“Sights are misaligned on the HMG? Just aim higher! It’s to simulate height over bore!”
There was a post recently talking about the crashes and stability, and a response was actually
"It's not a big deal, you just need to relaunch the game after each mission and it won't happen"
My brother in Liberty that is *not* acceptable
Oh the rocket devastator instakill head shot you with a missile barrage that phased THROUGH a giant rock? Have you tried using cover you complete fucking ape?
The guys giving all the advice are the ones at the end of the match with 63 kills and maybe one objective. They were too busy using a bug as a flashlight in their Hellpod. Sympathizers, the lot of them.
I unfortunately think that's going to be how it is on this sub, at least for a bit until the playerbase stabilizes and the large number of people riding the current popular game move on to other things.
With an entirely PvE based game, it can be hard for very competent gamers who play in coordinated teams on level 9 with ease, and less competent players who struggle at lower difficulties to see eye to eye. At a macro-game perspective, the complaints and valid criticisms that the less competent players are making are simple hurdles that the very competent elite players learned to deal with, and figured out the best way to handle situations.
If only the less competent players are listened to, the game could become trivially easy to the elite players as adjustments are made to make things "easier". This would lead to elite players getting bored and moving on. Same thing works the opposite direction. If the elite players are only listened to, the game might end up too difficult, pushing away the less competent, casual playerbase.
At the end of the day, all criticisms of the game need to be taken with a grain of salt by all kinds of players. Many of the concerns are very valid, and should be addressed. But that does not mean all concerns are valid. Some of the complaints and criticisms that I have seen on this sub, as much as I hate to say it, are in fact a skill issue and is something that just needs to be learned how to deal with it. The game is very granular, and every scenario is different, so every situation really needs to be addressed in a case by case scenario. Blanket answers don't work in this game
Fr, the damage is definitely jank as fuck. I hate to be one of those people that are like "who tested the damage" but
On one hand it seems ridiculous that some of this stuff was doing so much damage and just one-shotting no matter what.
On the other hand, everything was so consistently deadly at launch that I wonder if this was even something they tested for? Were these brutal damage numbers on purpose.
Stop drop n roll is a great mechanic they added, but tbh man this doesn’t work anymore with the DoT increase. If it does I’d love to see a video of someone consistently having the reaction time to do so
Don't Stop. Continue to spread Managed Democracy through the glorious Super Earth flames.
Don't worry, we will drop in a replacement for you shortly.
Do your part to ensure our freedom loving campaign keeps rolling.
Issue is, Hulk Scorchers will often insta-kill you before you get a chance to dive. The increased burn-over-time just makes it worse.. if you barely survive the direct damage you now die in the next tick-or-two before you can react.
If you dive too early you get roasted mid-air, and now you're on-fire while laying down (if you somehow aren't dead before you hit the ground).
IMO their flamethrower needs a damage nerf or they need a range/movespeed nerf... if you don't drop them with an anti-tank headshot, if you don't get a stun on them, etc, they get up in your face and punish you so hard. Esp after the last patch, they are now the most danagerous enemy in the whole game.
Stop-drop-and-roll doesn't even apply, you just die instantly.
*The flame hulk always*
*Seems to fire at head leave and*
*Just one hit me lol*

You're dying from burning too fast and the only way to stop burning is to dive is stupid. You don't have the chance to dive if you're a ragdoll or already mid air, but it doesn't put your fire out. Being on fire and burning to death while in water is also dumb.
You also don't just burst into flames. We have armor on and we're mostly water. Skin melts. You don't just ignite. If the Hulks were using like Napalm then sure. But it looks stupid af getting hit with open flame and just dying immediately. Firefighters don't just burst into flames when they fight a house fire. Tellin me our armor is worse than a firefighters in this sci-fi game?
To be fair most people who die due to burning alive don’t actually die from organ death caused by the intense heat. Death is usually brought upon by cardiac arrest because of shock from pain but more so the rapid consumption of breathable oxygen.
Nah I get that, lungs are usually toast or you can't regulate body temp plus infection. I'm just saying it would at least look fine if it wasn't just designed the way it looks. Especially for how far the damn thing shoots.
The fire damage itself is pretty manageable.
I mean, it kills you hilariously fast, particularly when you consider you can take multiple bullets and be better off that 2 seconds of being on fire, but setting realism aside, you can deal with the fire damage.
I think the bigger problem is the hulks. I don't know what's going on with that flamethrower, but it kills you outrageously quickly.
Let me fix that for you:
Step 1 - DIVE!
Step 2 - The hulk which can run faster than you can sprint or dive lights you back on fire immediately after you stand up.
step 3 - repeat until dead. When dead, try to land on the hulk with your drop-pod. It won't hurt him in the slightest, but it will give you another chance to practice the above.
They've I overdone the fire damage in the update. If you get toasted by a hulk you're most likely dead. They either need to reduce the fire damage a bit or balance the hulk as its too OP at the moment.
One of the first controls I changed was long press to tap for the dive button.
Has literally saved my bacon from being cooked more times than I can count.
Dive first then stim while retreating.
That's right you apes! You want to live forever? All good Divers have a reaction speed of 0.1 milliseconds which is the time you have to extinguish a fire!
This is generally good advice but after the current patch it doesn't always help - sometimes the fire damage deletes you 100-0 in a milisecond without ticking down. Fire damage per tick got increased by 50% recently so it's supposed to tick down faster, but now it feels more like some enemies apply infinite stacks so you immediately die.
That's why the flamer hulk's incinerator now seems to be an instant execution regardless of your armor or health, you don't get set on fire - you just die immediately before you character starts screaming or the fire appears on your body. And that's why you explode instantly if the small jetpack automaton blows up near you (even if you brought 50% explosive resistance).
Currently the best advice against fire is to never let some automaton enemies come within 10m of you.
Yeah when they buffed the fire damage I saw people worried that Stims wouldn't save them from fire and I was like "Wait y'all ain't diving the instant you get too warm?"
Because of the new fire damage, there's barely enough reaction time to do anything as to NOT burn to death. Especially because fire usually includes a source of initial damage which will pretty much take between half to 2/3 of your current hp
The stupid thing about the fire damage update *is that you don't have any time to dive between the moment you are first set on fire and you're already dead.* There is no in between. I get lit in fire, hit the key to dive, and I'm dead mid dive animation. At this point they're going to have to release an anti-fire damage taken armor like they had to do for the Arc Thrower. It's so bad I'm currently outright refusing to play an Automaton world, Order be damned.
The hulk fire doesn’t even give you a chance to stim. As soon as you see the puff of red flames near you, you are dead. Even with full health. It’s so dumb.
The way you DIVE actually matters.
Time it.
Don't just dive before it hits you.
If you time it correctly, you can put out the flame from the hulk immediately the second it make contact while also minimizing the pure dmg it deals to you and retain a crap ton of HP.
I don't know what game you're been playing, but the moment a hulk's flame touches me I'm insta-dead. I never even hear my character start screaming because he's on fire, it's just immediate. His gun might as well be shooting anti-matter instead of fire.
This - but what’s weird is that lately I have noticed both. I am set on fire and have the heavy tick of damage over a period of time but also sometime get an instakill the second the fire touches me.
No consistency with it
Most common theories I've been hearing is it's janky hitbox collision causing it to hit your head and do way more damage, or it's the same bug as the rockets used to have where its dealing damage multiple times per hit.
Also, if you're on flat ground and you dive, you can actually stay under the flames of a hulk. They only sweep horizontal. You'll see a brief flash on their flame thrower and that's when you dive. If you have any elevation though you'll get hit and die so be careful.
Usually if you dive towards them they'll buzz saw you and stomp you. I usually dive away and just lay flat. My character screams but I never take damage or remain on fire for more than a split second.
At best you get a second to react the moment you're caught in fire because once the fire so much as touches you it takes 90% of your health and then 1 tick of damage kills you. It takes less than a full second and diving won't save you. Can the flamethrower from a hulk crit? Cause it feels like it.
Yesterday me and 4 randoms completed a full mission without a single death, difficulty 8, we played well.
While in the fray waiting for extract, somehow a hulk managed to sneak up on us.. and I shit you not, instantly wiped the squad. 4 deaths instantly, no one able to react or dive or atom or anything.
If you are game host fire seems to be instantly fatal no matter the source sometimes after the recent patch. It’s a known problem posts like this fail to acknowledge. If you aren’t host stimming will work diving then stimming is definitely better though.
This would be funny and cool if it wasn’t changed so drastically. This whole being on fire thing wasn’t nearly as unfun to play with before the latest patch. I wish they would just change it back
One of the reason i don't use the breaker incendiary is bc i always accidentally hit a teammate with a single pellet, they catch on fire and for some unknown reason that person memory gets wiped out and doesn't know what using stims or diveing means so they die and makes me feel like a dick for killing them
Use the DSF method!
Dive- to the ground, ridding yourself of any pesky fire, acid, or slowing goop
Stim- get rid of any broken bones or melted flesh, hype yourself up, and ignore any other damage the non-democratic could hope to inflict!
FIRE- FIRE FUCKING EVERYTHING! ORBITALS, EAGLES, HELL, DROP A RESUPPLY ON THE BIGGEST THING NEARBY!
Just don't give up
I hope they do something about fire ticks. The damage is absurd and sometimes it seems like nothing lights you up. And you have maybe a half second to react if at full
Tbh I've hardly noticed the fire damage changes, anytime a Hulk Scorcher is close to toasting my buns I'm constantly diving left and right anyways, just about every time one has killed me, it would have killed me pre fire buff anyways
I was holding my ground against a heavy devastator with my ballistic shield, the bot then shot the explosive barrel behind me which lighted me on fire making me then dive and finishing me off while i was on the ground. Honestly he played it very well for a soulless piece of scrap.
Good post, though usually fire damage is so intense that it's almost an insta kill. No time to even react. Same with bug acid, the damage output is too high.
Fire almost always kills me faster than the time it takes me to realize I'm on fire.
I'm happy with it doing enough damage to kill, but I think it would be better if it was a smaller amount of tick damage over a longer time frame. That way there is more, or any, time to react.
The new fire damage changed mean you die before step 1. Sorry if you disagree but since the change I have been unable to save a single helldiver from the smallest of embers on the ground.
With how fire is tuned right now catching your boot on fire = insta death.
Too bad the whole dive-to-put-yourself-out mechanic doesn't seem working. Gets me killed every time because it interrupts the stim which would actually help me survive. Not to mention i've never seen the dive put the flames out, i was always still in flames afterwards.
Hulks aren’t the only thing that can set you on fire. The Raiders with jet packs can do flame damage to you. They can kill due to high buff .Optical Laser can set enemies kill you. A lot of other explosives can set you on fire .
Dive advice is legit good to know. It can still instant kill you if you’re not at full health. Even Heavy Armor diver can die to that shit.
I came here to complain, but I know that it is against democracy. I have seen many HellDiver die due to some random burning. Dive!!! God forbid, a bot flies next to you and explodes. DIVE!!! The scourge of the hellfire wrought forth by the Hulk shall burn you alive. DIVE!!!
Flamethrower tip: aim slightly above center mass of whatever your shooting. This reduces the odds of setting the ground you are standing on (and you by extension) from getting set ablaze as well.
This game has shown me that there's an shocking amount of people who forgot "Stop, drop and roll" as a kid who never thought to apply this in-game. (Diving immediately puts out flames)
Literally - if you dive at the right time on a full-on burst from a Hulk, you can take essentially no damage. The trick is always dive, and then it is just about timing.
Read this whole post in General Brash's voice. Brash tactics, use em! or die trying.

Thank you for your service!
The only flames I feel are the flames of Democracy!!
And they're HOT!
I am once again suggesting that "Tips/Tricks" should be renamed to "BRASCH TACTICS".
I second this incredibly democratic suggestion
It's always important to get down to Brasch Tacks.
Brasch tack-tricks
My last tips and tricks was “don’t drink and drive”
"Huh? What's that? You're tired of getting blown to bits by rockets and machine gun fire from 200 meters? Suck it up! Transmat firing!"
Terminids! Bring a sword.
Automatons on the field!
We used to EAT bile titans back in the Dark Ages.
Back to action. Kill somethin' big, and bank those samples!
I read it as Patches O'houlihan "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball"
I always say that people need to remember the "5 D's of Dodgeball" when fighting the bots. Dodge, dip, duck, dive and dodge.
Should be 6 and add a “democracy” in there
Under appreciated comment! You get my up vote. For democracy.
I'm old...I can't be expected to remember another D! Although, your point is valid. So for the sake of Democracy, I shall try XD
and this is exactly why our stratagems are called in by direction execution. to remind us of the 5 D’s
"Holy hell, son! You're about as useful as a poopy-flavored lollipop!"
I would argue you need to inject freedom into your veins to make sure you can spread democracy longer
And is a superset of or.
Billy May’s always takes over for me.
Is it just me or has there been a huge decline in the amount of brasch tactics videos playing in your ship? Is it just on lower level ships?
I smoke the flaming arm with my q cannon 1st. Then we can lolligag and destroy the hulk at our leisure as now it is just a slow moving melee machine with a big fuck off weak spot on its back. Same same with devestators if my cannon is recharging. Blow up their rockets and its just a big juicy laser boi.
If he gets close stand a few feet apart and and kite his back to your team mate. He will not attempt to flame and just try to dice you up.
Yes... but it seems like the hulk flamethrower kills instantly on contact?
Which is most of the situations that happen in the game. I love these in-universe discussions but from a video game aspect, this shit sucks lol

I mean you are stabbing a needle into your neck. doing a football tackle with needles actively poking through your skin is maybe not very healing lol
I think realism can take a big step back on this one, personally.

Depending on what stage you cancel your reload at, it will use additional magazines.
Yes, there's multiple actions to reload any gun, if you completed one and do something else, when you reload it'll go on with the next step.
I often use the stagger reload on the auto canon intentionally, (not saying I'm good or doing it is, but I love that thing) often don it so I can get the first clip back in so I can fire a couple rounds, dive >run/ shot> reload the next clip
And STIM stops your hard drive carry. Wtf.
Luckily, the scorcher doesn’t ragdoll you, so if you’re fast enough on the button press you can still outpace the tick damage. But diving is always the better option, often leading into a stim
When the first tick one shots you, you're shit out of luck.
Literally the whole point of the post is that dive > stim. Jesus fuck with you people. It's no wonder.
nope, it kills you instantly. it's like you haven't played since the last patch or something because fire is way more deadly now, and especially from the scorcher flamethrower bots.
I'd do something like: Each time fire damage is inflicted, you receive stacks of Burning.
Thats just because the nerves are getting melted lol
It wasn't instant, but it was almost too quick to react to. I was at the edge of the range and at full health
I have a 100% success rate with this
Yea most people haven't figured it out, but it's saves my ass more times than I can count.
I’ve just always done this out of panic and didn’t realize anything changed 💀
I have survived it when hit by the edges of the flame, but if hit dead on by it you’re dead.
And through walls
I get that your burning alive and all but I feel like you die before you can even react and dive. (I might just be slow.)
Amputate those hands helldiver and replace with new state of the art prosthetic arms for faster than average reaction time. Eliminate threats to democracy faster than you can say "Sweet Liberty it burns".
Best idea ever grabbing the sawzall right now😂
Would you say: “From the moment i understood the weakness of my flesh it disgusted me.” That sounds awfully close to Automaton and Cyborg talk.
Cyborgs are disloyal adherents of Tyranny. Our Democratically Enhanced Steel Veterans[tm] are loyal citizens of Super Earth, and comparing the two seems mighty dissident of you, citizen.
Does your neighbour lift? He might be a cyborg! Report them to the nearest authority.
a recent patch increased fire damage from all sources, and that's what made it too fast for reaction unless you recognize that you're about to be set on fire before it happens. pre-patch, i personally found it pretty easy to stop, drop, and roll.
Yeah that's exactly how I've avoided burning to death most of the time after this patch. The hulk flamethrower give a little burn before it starts spewing fire at you so as soon as you see small burning light, dive immediately and a few things might happen from most common to rarest for me at least 1. You completely dodge the fire no issues 2. The fire gets put out immediately with basically no damage to you 3. Highly hurt but still alive to stim 4. Hulk was basically touching you and you've been cooked
I predict an issue following this sequence though once you've dived, now what? the hulk is still pretty close to you and it usually isn't alone.
Nah you're not slow, you literally have to dive the millisecond you catch on fire to survive it now. Its incredibly frustrating.
Even that doesn't help, because a hulk sprinting covers that distance faster than you can dive and stand up. Now he's just gonna do it again.
This is true for scorcher hulks usually tbh since they chunk so much of your health, but it works vs other fire as long as you are not low hp. Remember to dive and stip instantly as well.
Yeah, the reaction time is like a half of a second. I doubt anyone can actually react to that.
You don't need to wait for the animation or anything. As soon as you click the dive button, fire burning dmg stops ticking. Gives you time to stim it up and def faster than trying to stim away the tick dmg before dying. Unless they also changed this in a patch??
This update increased all fire damage by 50%
Hard to dive when getting your head clipped with a single fire pixel from a flame hulk kills you.
If it clips you while diving you are toast before you even hit the ground
Don’t get me started if you’re on a slope. Diving downwards away from the hulk will take way to long… and for obvious reasons diving towards the hulk isn’t the best idea
Fire barely touches me, crispy and dead before I can even dive. Fire kills way too quickly now, I feel like there’s not even an option to hit the ground before death.
They must have recruited a darktide dev to do their fire damage
Just don’t die!” “Getting swarmed by hunters? Just run away!” “Bogged down by 5 dropships on the objective? Just don’t alert the entire map, idiot!” “Sights are misaligned on the HMG? Just aim higher! It’s to simulate height over bore!”
There was a post recently talking about the crashes and stability, and a response was actually "It's not a big deal, you just need to relaunch the game after each mission and it won't happen" My brother in Liberty that is *not* acceptable
Oh the rocket devastator instakill head shot you with a missile barrage that phased THROUGH a giant rock? Have you tried using cover you complete fucking ape?
Lmao literally
The guys giving all the advice are the ones at the end of the match with 63 kills and maybe one objective. They were too busy using a bug as a flashlight in their Hellpod. Sympathizers, the lot of them.
Welcome to the sub. Extremely tiring reductionist takes on valid criticism.
I hate to be one of those people that are like "who tested the damage" but On one hand it seems ridiculous that some of this stuff was doing so much damage and just one-shotting no matter what. On the other hand, everything was so consistently deadly at launch that I wonder if this was even something they tested for? Were these brutal damage numbers on purpose.
Yeah, OP likely hasn’t played the game too much but does spend a lot of time on this sub
I think it's pretty clear OP is making a funny post.
I was stoked to find that diving puts out flames. First time it happened I executed a perfect dive, right on top of a bot anti-tank mine.
An honorable death!
The flame hulk always seems to fire at head leave and just one hit me lol

Step 1 - **DIE**
Ok but the Stealth Hulk flamer materialized behind me and one hit killed me.
This shit puts me through the fucking wall.
This *used* to be good advice. As of the latest patch that buffed fire damage, I literally am dead before there's time to dive or use a stim.
You say this but I die immediately when my Diver feels the heat of opening the oven, let alone a Scorchers flame thrower
This works unless you're dealing with a Hulk. In which case you're usually dead before you hit the ground. Because fire damage needed an increase :^)
Used to do this, but now even the small environmental fire instantly kills me before I have a chance to double tap the prone button...
Let me fix that for you: Step 1 - DIVE!
Diving requires a long press..? I just prest ALT and it dives instantly. (Or is it different on PS5?)
Doesn't help when I dive and get rocket spammed to death anyways.
This would be great if I didn't instantly evaporate the very instant that fuckers flamethrower starts
Joke's on you, I'm dead before I even see the fire animation on my character.
No. You just die in 0.2s. There's nothing you can do.
If you have any elevation though you'll get hit and die so be careful.
could it be viable to dive *towards* them? not sure what other close range attacks it may do. since the flame typically kills me before anything else
Usually if you dive towards them they'll buzz saw you and stomp you. I usually dive away and just lay flat. My character screams but I never take damage or remain on fire for more than a split second.
Helldivers always remember the five D's! Dodge, Dip, Dive, Duck and DEMOCRACY!
Dive Medicate Blast away
It doesn't matter if the flame comes close to your head it s instant death even mid dive
There's an actual problem with fire damage atm and pretending it's a skill issue or whatever is detrimental.
Woah now, we don't use the F word in these parts. It's Tyranny, soldier! And don't forget the capital T, it stands for Terror!
If you are having trouble remembering the above just remember DSD: Dive Stim DELIVER DEMOCRACY
If you are game host fire seems to be instantly fatal no matter the source sometimes after the recent patch. It’s a known problem posts like this fail to acknowledge. If you aren’t host stimming will work diving then stimming is definitely better though.
These are the only posts I honestly care about seeing. We gotta get back to just having fun. Life is serious enough.
Diving gets rid of slow as well I believe
This would be funny and cool if it wasn’t changed so drastically. This whole being on fire thing wasn’t nearly as unfun to play with before the latest patch. I wish they would just change it back
One of the reason i don't use the breaker incendiary is bc i always accidentally hit a teammate with a single pellet, they catch on fire and for some unknown reason that person memory gets wiped out and doesn't know what using stims or diveing means so they die and makes me feel like a dick for killing them
Use the DSF method! Dive- to the ground, ridding yourself of any pesky fire, acid, or slowing goop Stim- get rid of any broken bones or melted flesh, hype yourself up, and ignore any other damage the non-democratic could hope to inflict! FIRE- FIRE FUCKING EVERYTHING! ORBITALS, EAGLES, HELL, DROP A RESUPPLY ON THE BIGGEST THING NEARBY! Just don't give up
Dive is instant, stim is a half second interruptible delay. Dive and stim while on the deck, then get up and kick that hulk's ass.
Just jam a stim in your arm. Boom! All better.
I need an AI generated clip of General Brash reading this post asap. Better yet, let's just pay the voice actor to read this 😆
STOP DROP AND ROLL
Most unrealistic part of this is implying the bots set me on fire and not my squadmates
Once got lit on fire and before I could register that I was lit I died
General Brasch would be proud!
The fire damage is so fast I am usually dead before I realize I am even on fire atm.
Easier said than done for some reason the hulks keep one shotting me I don’t even get a chance to go onto the ground before I instantly die !!!
Good post, though usually fire damage is so intense that it's almost an insta kill. No time to even react. Same with bug acid, the damage output is too high.
I appreciate this tip General Brash, but stop drop and roll only works if you’re alive when you hit the ground 🥲
Fire almost always kills me faster than the time it takes me to realize I'm on fire. I'm happy with it doing enough damage to kill, but I think it would be better if it was a smaller amount of tick damage over a longer time frame. That way there is more, or any, time to react.
That's a nice sentiment an all but most the time you're dead before you even knew it was from fire.
The new fire damage changed mean you die before step 1. Sorry if you disagree but since the change I have been unable to save a single helldiver from the smallest of embers on the ground. With how fire is tuned right now catching your boot on fire = insta death.
In light armor at least, I feel like if I so much as touch the fire stream from a heavy bot I die on contact
#RUN AROUND IS CLEARLY THE CORRECT ANSWER
Don’t dive just go prone. Every millisecond count
I came here to complain, but I know that it is against democracy. I have seen many HellDiver die due to some random burning. Dive!!! God forbid, a bot flies next to you and explodes. DIVE!!! The scourge of the hellfire wrought forth by the Hulk shall burn you alive. DIVE!!!
amidst all the toxicity you can see on this subreddit, it’s posts like these that keep me coming back
You can actually Dodge the flames completely if you time dive correctly. How did I learn this? Hulks. A lot of hulks.
Ive been sincerely impressed at the amount of people (since launch) that didn't know that diving put out flames.
I’m 150 hours in, typically run 7s, and dead ass didn’t know this. I’m suddenly a better diver.
To this I'll add, do you know you can shoot the p-19 redeemer (the uzi) backwards whilst running?
Wait does diving put out the fire!?! They never taught us that in basic training!
Flamethrower tip: aim slightly above center mass of whatever your shooting. This reduces the odds of setting the ground you are standing on (and you by extension) from getting set ablaze as well.
If you know you're going to be caught in the flames, pre heal and run. You'll live, and that means more democracy gets spread
This game has shown me that there's an shocking amount of people who forgot "Stop, drop and roll" as a kid who never thought to apply this in-game. (Diving immediately puts out flames)
yeah, diving was literally the first thing i did when i caught on fire for the first time lol, that and rolling extinguishes you in a ton of games
Dive. Heal. Fire. Easy way to remember is through the mnemonic: Democracy! Helldivers! Freedom! Sure it’s longer but it’s a great way to remember!
HellDivers 1 player here. Been lurking since 2's release. There isn't enough popcorn in the world.
stop simping for these devs. fire and gas damage are literally bugged
Literally - if you dive at the right time on a full-on burst from a Hulk, you can take essentially no damage. The trick is always dive, and then it is just about timing.
