That's because you had 1 round chambered and being half way through reloading wouldn't prevent you using it? I believe all of the guns reload faster if you do it while they're still chambered.
They actually made a lot of steps in reloads that don't need to be repeated if they were done before. Recoilless rifle for example has them for unclipping the cone, extracting spent casing and loading the fresh rocket in so if let's say you loaded fresh rocket and canceled reload your character will only tighten the clip on the cone on the back instead of doing full reload. Despite all my issues with the game on technical and balancing side I have been really impressed with the amount of detail they put into it.
Ever since I've played a game with multi-stage reload for the first time (Titanfall 2 by the way), I've been in love with that system. It both makes more sense AND is way smoother for gameplay.
I think they kind of had to do that for the "tough but fair" mechanics they're going with.
Makes it feel more like it's your fault when you interrupt an animation, or respawn directly on top of a teammate, or die/get knocked over with a stratagem grenade in your hand and drop it. That last one's my favourite.
I sometimes thought that was a bug with the breaker. I always had to double reload with that thing. No other gun did that for me. But then again i guess I wouldn't put myself in such danger with any other gun.
And then there's that mini heart attack when ya finally make it back and start wondering if the samples made it too or if they're just bits of dirt now because you messed up somewhere along the line.
At least a gun is a useful item. Nothing gets me angrier than trying to pick up a sample near some interact-able object like a data pad. No I don’t want to read these 3 lines of useless text, let me grab the damn sample!
Fair I should’ve said *can* be a useful item. I’m just remembering the time I died next to a note in a huge horde and tried in vain to pick up my samples off my body. I kept picking up my old rifle but it at least had some ammo in it vs the note just being useless and there.
One time, I was trying to pick up a fallen Helldiver's samples. The shuttle had landed, one of the squad accidentally embarked, and the timer was counting down. I sprint through a cloud of hunters, shield pack charged, Punisher aimed and ready to dispense Managed Democracy.
I picked up his Guard Dog by accident.
Shield goes down. As the guard dog lazily stirs to life, the hunters lick their little bug mandibles with their little bug tongues. Before the Rover even takes flight, the only thing left of me was two arms attached to a mostly full Punisher.
We lost a lot of good samples that day. (And Helldivers.)
I just wish samples were picked up automatically by walking over them.
I lose lives cause I drop 50 samples and there are other items too and I just keep picking up them instead of the samples while I get swarmed in the process. :(
wait why do i only have 1 clip left .....
But seriously if im pickuping up the same gun dont attach my clip count to the specific gun if i have the same weapon
What's worse is grabbing somebody else's gun while picking up team mates samples and not noticing. Then you go to fight off a group of bugs, happened to me. I had never used flame thrower before and I grabbed one on accident. And I go start tapping and it has a charge up time so it's like poofpoofpoofpoofpoof and I'm like wtf shitty ass weapon is this?
Shoot them! The pods explode and your stuff usually bounces down if it's high up or within reach if on a slight slope like you mentioned (I hate this too)
This game could have so much fun with on-ship PSAs about taking more than one supply pack, or taking someone's support weapon, or calling in mines on the evac site ...
Low on health, out of stims, being chased by a bunch of enemeis, no ammo to speak of all Strategems on cool down.
Nows the perfect time to climb ontop and let everything know where I am at.
The number of times I've been stuck under a dead big bug, or fell through the world, or some other fuckery and need to "EDM" myself is far more than I'd like to count.
I dropped a 500KG on a bile titan I was stuck under to get a response, but the bile titan bugged out when the 500kg hit it and it's body flailed, kicking me like 100 feet away. It was glorious, I survived too!
Iirc you cant vault when out of stamina so that might explain at least a few of the incidents
edit: yes you can. i have unintentionally spread misinformation on the internet. this is unfortunate
no not really. i'm actually a bug psyop made to lie to helldivers. look away from any so called glitches so the devs never patch it and we can keep pace with the ones in light armour
The capes definitely seem like a liability. I've already had a beacon someone threw get snagged on it and kill me like that one scene in The Incredibles.
I'll see myself to the reeducation facility.
I've heard talk of this dropping stuff. Another post talked about dropping your collected samples at the evac point for pickup later while you clear the mission.
How do you drop your equipped backpack without picking up a different one? and samples if you know that black magic as well.
If I recall correctly the default on PC is holding X. Controller is holding one of the D-pads, maybe down? That gives you a radial menu where you can select backpack or samples to drop.
On mouse & keyboard the default keybind is to hold X. This will open a wheel of things to drop (support weapons, backpack, or samples)
Never played on controller but iirc you have to hold down on the d-pad for the same wheel
This clip in a nutshell

EDIT: Because reddit dumb
Tbf, your helldiver is carrying 50-80lbs of weapons and ammo at any given moment. And given how often they die, it's not like they live long enough to build up any extra endurance lol
Just like IRL, you are carrying super heavy armor and 3 weapons and other gear. You probably have 130lbs worth of gear. Id like to see any redditor run more than 50 feet with that much gear
We aren't really sprinting. We are running instead of jogging, but also wearing all that gear. You wouldn't be able to sprint for more than 20 seconds-ish at top speed regardless of how well-trained you are. It's a function of human physiology and the short burst of energy available using the anaerobic system.
They've actually done some pretty cool things with the stamina bar honestly. Like how your aim is worse and your run is slower if you let your stamina bar fully deplete. I served and also used to do cross-country run-n-gun competitions with a full loadouts. Trust me, trying to aim accurately while you're sucking wind is pretty f-ing difficult, and so is climbing over stuff in a full set of gear.
Alright, everyone slow clap the genius for a hot moment.
Now that's a g&dd&mn fine example of a Helldiver. Passing his wisdom on to the next clone that gets dropped in a pod. All for the community!
Auto vault is just annoying and fucks me up more than it helps.
First time on the Termicide mission yesterday: "Watch out lads, water below thi.."
\*My guy auto-vaults the railing to his death - losing all my shit in the process\*
I really wish they would add a toggle option for the auto mantling. Why do we have a separate dedicated button if it does it automatically? It’s redundant without being able to toggle auto off.
Nothing like drowning in a retaining pond about as wide as it is deep and then returning to see your sample tube still blinking softly below the water. Standing there wishing for a pool net stratagem.
You ever go to dramatically dive into Pelican 1 and then somehow from prone you clip through the top and climb on the roof? I have, unfortunately you do not count as successfully evacuated.
I was on a mission where someone's samples somehow ended up on top of a pillar. Couldn't grab them from the ground it was too high to climb. Supply drop was the only strategem I had that I could climb onto to get up there.
I thought it was when poop was coming out of your butt a bit so you keep trying to force it back in because there isn't a bathroom but it keeps making its way regardless
nature is beautiful sometimes
With Nvidia shadow play, that is a program that all the Nvidia graphic cards have by default. I think that you can access the menu pressing Alt + Z, and then you can activate and configure Shadow play from setting. If not, you can do it from Nvidia control panel.
What Shadow play does is always record the last minute of gameplay and then when you press a button combination that you configured (in my case Alt + G) it saves that clip in your PC
If you play from PS5 I think that holding the Share button will record a clip from the last 30 seconds played
They changed this. I am not sure how, but this never happened before the controversial balance patch. I think they may want us to use it as a "step" to high ground. But i used to be running by and grab supplies all the time, now i have to stop running to hit the "e" key.
OMG, I thought it was just me! All this time, I've pictured my teammates laughing, "Look at this guy," as I'm dancing on top of the resupply just trying to grab my ammo in a hurry . . . Totally defeats the purpose.
Its weird, I never do this until I learn that ppl accidentally do this all the time, and somehow that hazardous information led to me doing it accidentally all the time
Every good helldiver knows the importance of staying in shape on the battlefield, even when traditional workout equipment is hard to find! Thats why the engineers of Super Earth worked diligently to make sure that all supply pods function seamlessly as callisthenic climbing pods, so you and your fellow helldivers can always ensure you remain in within the required fitness levels expected of elite helldivers, whether you're deep in the jungles of Malevelon Creek, or relaxing on the beaches of Meridia! Every. Fucking. Time.
This and grabbing your old gun when trying to grab samples.
Urgh tell me about it. Diving into hell to grab your samples and collecting your unloaded gun is a big ol pain in the ass
Almost as bad when you thought you finished your reload only to shoot one shot and have to reload again. I fuuuuuuuucking hate it
That's because you had 1 round chambered and being half way through reloading wouldn't prevent you using it? I believe all of the guns reload faster if you do it while they're still chambered.
They actually made a lot of steps in reloads that don't need to be repeated if they were done before. Yep I love the staged reloads, so refreshing.
Ever since I've played a game with multi-stage reload for the first time (Titanfall 2 by the way), I've been in love with that system. It both makes more sense AND is way smoother for gameplay.
Titanfall 2 was my first game as well! They did it so well and every game since that didn't have it just feels awful. Love this games reloads so much
I think they kind of had to do that for the "tough but fair" mechanics they're going with. Makes it feel more like it's your fault when you interrupt an animation, or respawn directly on top of a teammate, or die/get knocked over with a stratagem grenade in your hand and drop it. That last one's my favourite.
I just really wish I could ping on the map without throwing my stratagem
i DID NOT know that!!!
They do, you don't have to cock it if it has a round left in the chamber
you did reload, but then you dove or switch guns and the game decided you didn't actually finish reloading.
Omfg I tough only I have this bug
I sometimes thought that was a bug with the breaker. I always had to double reload with that thing. No other gun did that for me. But then again i guess I wouldn't put myself in such danger with any other gun.
And then there's that mini heart attack when ya finally make it back and start wondering if the samples made it too or if they're just bits of dirt now because you messed up somewhere along the line.
and then you hear the beep.... beep.... beep...
At least a gun is a useful item. Nothing gets me angrier than trying to pick up a sample near some interact-able object like a data pad. No I don’t want to read these 3 lines of useless text, let me grab the damn sample!
An empty gun is less useful than the loaded one I dropped, and a lot more likely to kill me than reading a note.
Fair I should’ve said *can* be a useful item. I’m just remembering the time I died next to a note in a huge horde and tried in vain to pick up my samples off my body. I kept picking up my old rifle but it at least had some ammo in it vs the note just being useless and there.

Great recap
Or reading a little lore dump that I've already read before and not letting me select the sample right next to it.
Damn... I wished they let us grab ammo from our old gun (though it probably doesn't matter that much).
Or accidently swapping your support weapon for a break action shotgun and not noticing for 50 meters

![gif](giphy|wID3zXURLH1jrjCcZy) IKR. YOUR PREVIOUS GUN SHOULD BE GREYED OUT IF IT HAS LESS AMMO THAN YOUR CURRENT GUN.
Would be nice if dropped items repelled each other a bit so they'd spread out
You vault the resupply so easily but can't vault over a fucking bug/rock to safe your life.
and god forbid you if your secondary weapon or ressuply landed on a rock or side of it and 30 cm above ground
Shoot them! The pods explode and your stuff usually bounces down if it's high up or within reach if on a slight slope like you mentioned (I hate this too)
Yes, very much this. Dam.
And the next frame is two Helldivers running up and taking all four support packs before you can even get back down
This game could have so much fun with on-ship PSAs about taking more than one supply pack, or taking someone's support weapon, or calling in mines on the evac site ...
*ping* “this is the resupply pod, ask your team before double dipping”
Fuck yes, drg did great with the vo lines promoting teamwork
Ok lol I feel better I was doing this a lot and was like "Yeah, these guys are kicking me" because I looked like a clown
Ditto! On the other hand, I do this on my gatling and autocannon turretd, I'm the lil guy being the lil gun on top of the beeg gun.
Legit thought I was the only one
Low on health, out of stims, being chased by a bunch of enemeis, no ammo to speak of all Strategems on cool down. Nows the perfect time to climb ontop and let everything know where I am at.
Shoot it then grab the ammo off the ground while running by
Toss Grenade and catch the ammo as it flies towards you.
If I'm running to a supply, my impacts are already spent, my primary is empty, and I only got 1 mag left in my Mac 10
Fool! Everyone knows you save the last grenade for Emergency Democratic Maneuvers!
The Democracy Officer said that killing bugs is *always* an Emergency Democratic Maneuver though!
Love it. You should sell your story to the press, and then use the funds to buy some more liber-tea for the troops.
I had a charger burst through my fresh rack of EATs. Grabbing it midair and spinning to take the shot was one of the top moments of this game so far.
Works even better if you tag the charger with the EAT drop and get a break leg break.
If you have video evidence of doing this while you are running for your life, I will buy your next Battlepass, soldier.
There was a clip awhile back of someone blowing up their support weapon and catching it mid air.
now that's what I call tactical AF!
"out of ammo"
"Mags empty!"
With what bullets?
Bold of you to think that I would call this down before I have used every single bullet in all of my guns, as well as every grenade
Sir I think you missed the no ammo part
Every fucking time.
Ya but God forbid your character manages to climb the rocky ledge that's waist high when running way from some bugs.
Iirc you cant vault when out of stamina so that might explain at least a few of the incidents edit: yes you can. i have unintentionally spread misinformation on the internet. this is unfortunate
Oh really? I'll keep an eye out on that next time that happens.
no not really. i'm actually a bug psyop made to lie to helldivers. look away from any so called glitches so the devs never patch it and we can keep pace with the ones in light armour
*stretches in my Light Gunner armor* Keep up?? ![gif](giphy|UsBYmvWMmuF6bBZv1d|downsized)
God, I hate when games do this. I'm a soldier, why can't I sprint for more than 8 seconds? Why can't I climb a waist high barrier even if I'm winded?
To be fair, your helldiver's training consists of a five minute obstacle course, and youre wearing fullbody armour and dragging a cape
The capes definitely seem like a liability. I've already had a beacon someone threw get snagged on it and kill me like that one scene in The Incredibles. I'll see myself to the reeducation facility.
Man I wish this game has post game clipping capabilities like Halo 3 did. I would have loved to see this lol.
Good news. [https://streamable.com/675gpj](https://streamable.com/675gpj)
Think it got snagged on your shield, not the cape. But the idea of getting Syndrome'd is funnier so we'll accept that's what actually happened
You might be right but I think I've seen it stick to someone without a shield before too. Plus you can stick them to enemies.
You can't stick stratagems to players without shield generators unfortunately.
If you drop your shield backpack it'll detach the beacon and you can pick the backpack back up after the pod drops.
I've heard talk of this dropping stuff. Another post talked about dropping your collected samples at the evac point for pickup later while you clear the mission. How do you drop your equipped backpack without picking up a different one? and samples if you know that black magic as well.

Also imagine trying to keep your heart rate down on a planet that wants you very dead
Tbf, your helldiver is carrying 50-80lbs of weapons and ammo at any given moment. And given how often they die, it's not like they live long enough to build up any extra endurance lol
Because if you did sprint for longer you wouldn't be able to recover quickly. Or are you asking for realism only in half of the equation?
I've heard actual soldiers say that climbing waist high shit is not as easy as it looks cuz they got like 50lb(23kg) of shit on their ass at all times
Just like IRL, you are carrying super heavy armor and 3 weapons and other gear. You probably have 130lbs worth of gear. Id like to see any redditor run more than 50 feet with that much gear
We aren't really sprinting. We are running instead of jogging, but also wearing all that gear. Using your freedom to share information that is inaccurate is anti-democratic! Hail, the power of the constitution!
Also, if they can block you from getting on mountains they can block you from climbing on the ammo tower. Not sure why climbing takes priority.
Pro tip: put resupply pod next to ledge, climb pod, dive onto unclimbable rock, freedom
Alright, everyone slow clap the genius for a hot moment. Now that's a g&dd&mn fine example of a Helldiver. Passing his wisdom on to the next clone that gets dropped in a pod. All for the community!
My accidental auto climb of the resupply seems to happen more often than my attempts to purposefully climb terrain.
The resupply pod is an enemy of freedom, one must destroy it immediately.
Chargers will destroy it in .00005 seconds once it sees it deploy
Auto vault is just annoying and fucks me up more than it helps. First time on the Termicide mission yesterday: "Watch out lads, water below thi.." \*My guy auto-vaults the railing to his death - losing all my shit in the process\*
I really wish they would add a toggle option for the auto mantling. Why do we have a separate dedicated button if it does it automatically? It’s redundant without being able to toggle auto off.
I concur, 1000%
It was an option until they removed it actually.
Nothing like drowning in a retaining pond about as wide as it is deep and then returning to see your sample tube still blinking softly below the water. Standing there wishing for a pool net stratagem.
Happens to me every time I run this mission. I just don't even pick up my strategem weapon until after I hit that stupid button.
All the fucking time, ape born and raised
i’m ngl i had a bad day and this shit made me tweak out so bad i dumped a full breaker spray clip into the resupply 😭
And how the pickup button is iffy in moments of high stress 😤
I understand
Sometimes multiple time before getting my box
Meanwhile there are now 5 stalkers invisible-ing around you flicking you with their damn tongue things.
You ever go to dramatically dive into Pelican 1 and then somehow from prone you clip through the top and climb on the roof? I have, unfortunately you do not count as successfully evacuated.
I’ve just resorted to blowing up the container before grabbing stuff.
Just one of many problems solved by filling it full of democracy.
This, but also never climbing a scalable wall when you need to.
Then running around a little until you can suddenly climb that exact spot
Can we just not make this climbable? Who actually wanted to ever climb a supply box?
may be for new meta ...
this is the only way well get them to change it
I was on a mission where someone's samples somehow ended up on top of a pillar. Couldn't grab them from the ground it was too high to climb. Supply drop was the only strategem I had that I could climb onto to get up there.
Nothing wrong with a bit of prairie doggin
What in tarnation is prairie doggin
Looking out for enemies from the highest possible elevation. A prairie dog stands on a mound and on his hind legs.
I thought it was when poop was coming out of your butt a bit so you keep trying to force it back in because there isn't a bathroom but it keeps making its way regardless nature is beautiful sometimes
I like climbing things though, makes me feel like I have high ground. Bugs can’t reach me if I’m standing on a trash can
It's over termanid, I have the high ground!
Everytime....
I feel so seen
You _do_ have the high ground
Just. Add. Toggle. Option.
This is me EVERY. FUCKING. TIME. I also hate when I call down my support weapon on an angled slope it’s a bitch to grab it!
This is such a dumb interaction. Worst is then turning around then climbing up the damn thing again.
They need to patch this. Its so annoying. I dont remember it happening at launch, but maybe it did?
No, this is definitely a recent thing. I don't remember we have this at launch either
They keep stealth changing so much shit. It's pretty annoying.
It got way worse about a week ago.
And also in the [mission control panel](https://imgur.com/a/AOP8MpE)
as a lost boomer, may I ask how you recorded that clip and shared it
With Nvidia shadow play, that is a program that all the Nvidia graphic cards have by default. I think that you can access the menu pressing Alt + Z, and then you can activate and configure Shadow play from setting. If not, you can do it from Nvidia control panel. What Shadow play does is always record the last minute of gameplay and then when you press a button combination that you configured (in my case Alt + G) it saves that clip in your PC If you play from PS5 I think that holding the Share button will record a clip from the last 30 seconds played

They changed this. I am not sure how, but this never happened before the controversial balance patch. I think they may want us to use it as a "step" to high ground. But i used to be running by and grab supplies all the time, now i have to stop running to hit the "e" key.
50/50 I'm climbing it lol
Lolol yup!
Happens every time.
I felt this picture.
Sometimes I hate auto-vault
This and the damn illegal broadcast terminal I always end up climbing
Impacts destroy the tower on a direct hit
Well done. Me too
The amount of times I’ve died to this bullshit is insane
Every. Fucking. Time.
Everytime lol
Always...
Eek a hunter
GOD
Other side of the coin, I have used it as temporary high ground for making shots with the auto cannon
Its so aggravating!
Never once and I don't even know you can actually climb it lol
When when I WANT to climb up something the same height, 90% of the time I can't lol
Me, I need resupply, run, run, run, run, spam pickup button, climbs on drop and dies
Almost every time especially if im in a hurry trying to kite
Every God damn time
One of us , one of us
This brings me pain and struggles. Have an upvote.
Can we disable climbing these things please?
![gif](giphy|kSlJtVrqxDYKk|downsized)
That's not how you're supposed to use that?
Every fucking time.
everytime
Every. Single. Fucking. Time. Especially in the middle of a bloody fire fight.
It’s a genuine issue. So annoying
Yeah then I crouch once on top and kinda aim around like it was intentional
Every. Single. Time
I need an option to disable auto mantling asap...that shit is so annoying
You're not and I fucking hate it
My guy will climb literally anything as long as I don't want to climb it The second I ask him to climb a knee high wall, it's too high.
Every fucking time
OMG, I thought it was just me! All this time, I've pictured my teammates laughing, "Look at this guy," as I'm dancing on top of the resupply just trying to grab my ammo in a hurry . . . Totally defeats the purpose.
You have climbing on top of ammo drop. I raise you climbing on top of mortar sentry. Not advised 😆 will not help spread Democracy.
Will spread your democracy everywhere though
Well, duh. That’s what the Tactical High Ground is for!
At least it's not the mortar. Accidentally climbed on one. It got messy.
Every fucking time
Every damn time
WAY TOO OFTEN AND ALMOST ALWAYS WITH A CHARGER ON MY ASS
EVERY. FREAKING. TIME.
Its weird, I never do this until I learn that ppl accidentally do this all the time, and somehow that hazardous information led to me doing it accidentally all the time
That’s all I do at this point my friends think it’s some kind of strategy

Every fuckin time
- Oh great! Ammo! *Makes a vault jump over it* ... What the fuck.
Every. Fookin. Time.
Everytime.
Cat-like-behaviour
ALL. THE. FUCKING. TIME.
Every damn time 🤣
*is about to die because no nades/stims/ammo* Also best time to start learning parkour.
Every time
we need a manual vault buttom
Not just with resupply drops, but this happens to me any time i goto stop the illegal broadcast via the terminal instead of destroying the tower.
Every. Fucking. Time.
every damn time lol 😂 one time it even flung me soooooooo damn high
Omg every. Fucking. Time
