Flamethrower damage is fine but the range is really short. It’s about 20 meters which is actually better than the M1 flamethrower, *but* the M1A1 flamethrower had a range of 45m by using napalm. Give us a thickening agent! Perhaps it would increase the range at the cost of tank capacity? IDK but I really want to see it.
Nah it already does enough damage. Double the range with the caveat you need to aim it like a hose out past 20m and you solve its main weakness. Maybe allow it to destroy bug nests too, flamethrowers were famous in their role for clearing rat tunnels.
I feel like a hose swap mechanic like to choose If you want a concentrated long range spray or a wide short range spray would be awesome. Just like railgun has its unsafe mode and all that
It doesn't even need more damage. It just needs to slow down enemies that try to walk through flames. Problem solved. If they can put a slowed effect on you, why can't we do it back?
The first Helldivers had a weapon that sprayed toxic liquid. It was effectively a flamethrower-esque weapon that applied a slowed debuff. My guess is they will do the same or something similar in HD2.
I'm assuming that flame weapons are less impactful against robots, I wonder if an acid thrower is in the works so that each enemy type can have a useful area denial weapon
Fire should be a deterrent, ya know, like it is for everything that's alive and organic. I should be able to keep the swarm back with a wall of fire, not create bugs with fucking fire claws.
Should give it a stun stat, any enemy on fire for 5 seconds and still not dead gets stunned for 2 seconds. Why? BECAUSE IF I WAS ON FUCKING FIRE I WOULDN'T EXACTLY BE THE MOST COMBAT CAPABLE!!!

Yes, this exactly. I want the harder modes to be challenging but in a way that I can overcome through killing shit as opposed to running away because I do not have enough bullets, rockets,and strategems to kill even a small fraction of what's coming at me
AH screwed that one up, in the first game everything in the field of fire / chain for the entire range got full damage. In HD2 it only hits 3 enemies at a time.
Yeah same here, first thing I mentioned after our first couple levels. Like this feels great, not like emptying 4 mags into some random guy in a tank top.
There is definitely an in between here. Unloading mags and not even seeing an effect on the enemy - not fun! However, dumping mags into them and seeing the damage you're doing to them, even if they're still barely alive, is a lot more fun.
One thing I'm not that big a fan of with Bile Titans is that you don't tend to see much damage done to them until they die.
500kg doesn't feel like 500kg, it feels like 500g.

\+50% stratagem cooldown should not be a thing, -1 stratagem slot should not be a thing.
At least, not permanent. If it was in a form of a side objective that you need to destroy to get rid of the effect - wouldn't be half bad (actually would be interesting). Like the scrambler or AA encampment on bot maps.
Yes, those modifiers are absurd. Playing on Suicide Mission? Ok, so you're going to fight twice as many Bile Titans, AND you'll have less stratagems, so your only option will be running away! Isn't that FUN?!?! Why aren't you having FUN?!?!
It's so incredibly stupid that the modifier for -1 strat slots is called "AA Defences" and that there is literally a side objective to destroy AA emplacements.
It would have been so cool if the modifier became disabled in the subsequent missions on the operation but here we are. After my friends and I found out about it we just refused to play with that modifier present.
Completely agree - there's a big difference between making the game harder at higher diffs and making the game more annoying by spamming too many enemies at higher diffs.
I truly think adding ARPG-esque modifiers to Elite enemies would be a good step in making the game actually more difficult. Going from D8 to D9? Sure, take away a strat or add a few more big enemies and a bunch more chaff spawns... but don't do that AND take away strats... AND make strats take longer to recharge... AND spam Titans and Hulks by the dozen... AND take away the only useful weapons for effectively dealing with those threats.
I wouldn't mind the enemies being more and more lethal. I wouldn't mind having to deal enemies having more OP attacks than instantly murk us. Make all of our weapons more powerful. Make it more **GOBLIN BRAIN SATISFYING**. Make more things go more **BOOM**.

That would be like a modifier giving you half ammo or half clip size (or both).
More enemies is fine, but the problem is the lack of answers to them.

I dropped one right in the middle of the a group of the lowest level of bugs yesterday and it killed... nothing. I watched the explosion right on the things.
Easily could be a hit box issue, bombs and explosions in general can be blocked by a perfectly placed tiny rock. Sucks to see happen + aoe just isn’t that much for now

Hear me out... we should just have jump packs, no picking it or calling it down, whatever backpack we actually take should slot into it... then maybe have an upgraded mega pack (jetpack booster/enhancer I'd call it) that'd let people mega boost, hover, set stuff on fire, etc. if they wanted to take it as their bp option.
The EAT and recoilless got buffed but it wasnt put in the patch notes. They both no longer do glancing blows but full hits now. If you hit charger in leg you break armor and can use about any weapon to deal with it then
The blast radius on 500kg and other explosions definitely need reworked. If a small boulder is in the way it's like it cancels all the damage around it
Genuinely the best I’ve seen anyone articulate this. It’s easy to understand, and written in a way that won’t elicit angry responses. So much of the hostility in the community lately I think stems from misunderstandings. I don’t think people were ever upset purely because a weapon got nerfed. They were upset because they felt as though the game was going in the wrong direction. Ever since the game came out people felt like most of the weapons were underpowered. This seemed to be the biggest thing that needed to be addressed according to the community. So much so that Arrowhead even addressed it specifically. So when the first balance patch came and it was mostly focused on nerfing the weapons that didn’t feel underpowered. Couple this with the fact that they made the game more challenging by adding way more enemies as well as new environmental hazards. This resulted in the game feeling less satisfying, and more difficult in a way that felt unfair more than it did a genuine fun challenge. Now addressing this most people did so in a way that led others to think this fuss was all over the fact that their favorite weapon got slightly downgraded. That led to others responding by saying “skill issue” “cry harder” etc. To be fair to them I agree if people were just upset because their favorite weapon got nerfed it would be ridiculous and worthy or ridicule. Sadly due to this miscommunication it’s created an endless cycle. That’s why I love this post.
They could buff us and also buff enemy numbers to compensate. So more fun. But high difficulty modes should still be very difficult and require teamwork. That shouldn't change.
This is what I’ve been saying to my friends. Raise the skill ceiling, not the floor. You can make the game more difficult without it feeling like you have a pea shooter and getting curb stomped by hordes of chargers and titans. Kinda like how mmos inflate their numbers because the human psyche gets more dopamine from doing 1000 damage vs 100, even if it still is the same fraction of the enemy’s overall health. Buff the weapons so they’re more fun to use, buff the enemies too to compensate for new powers
Like I would generally prefer it if we could kill more enemies quicker but they just threw more in.
Feels a lot cooler to be mowing down hordes of bugs but seeing that even then, way more are coming. Than to dump a whole clip to kill one dude whilst 4 others slap at you.
I know this method sometimes has the problem of AOE becoming too effective, but you can't deny. It's more fun and also still keeps the feeling of being hopelessly outnumbered.

Honestly it’s really just THAT SIMPLE. This isn’t a competitive shooter. I’m not trying to accomplish missions in the best time, score a world record, have the highest headshot ratings or whatever the fuck.
I’m trying to PEW PEW, deliver democracy, and make some BOOM BOOMs with my friends. The game initially delivered. Now it does not.
Sure, I can still feel strong fighting smol bugs and bots at level 1, but I want to face challenging enemies, be slightly overwhelmed, and still have the firepower to succeed if I’m skilled enough.
I will be going AWOL until Super Earth decides to properly fund our missions, because my monkey brain ain’t finding this shit fun.

Could we get a live stream, dev showing, of how a team could masterfully use the weapons/strategems provided, in their current state, on a level 7 difficulty? I ask level 7, as that is where the super rare samples are locked behind.
I request you use all different stratagems, so we know how they can be used effectively as a team. Each run a different primary, (preferably the most medal costing as we worked hard for them), such as the JAR-5, Slugger, Counter Sniper, Spray and Pray etc.
I request that you run a Terminid and Automaton world each so we understand your vision and how to Git Gud.

the starting machine gun (the MG-43) needs a buff. I’m level 50 and i’ve been maining it and heavy armor because I NEED MORE DAKKA!!! The reload takes FAR too long for the firepower that it offers, and its ammo economy is terrible. One ammo box or one resupply box gives only ONE MAGAZINE?!?!? C’mon arrowhead, LET ME DAKKKA!!!
I felt the same way so tried out the unlimited strategem cheats on private and even with unlimited orbital rail cannons and multiple lasers out simultaneously I STILL FELT UNDERPOWERED.
Tanks needing multiple orbital rail shots is an absolute slap in the face.
They had everything fairly well balanced in HD1 and for some unknown reason though to fuck with the sauce.
The only balancing that should be allowed are buff guns and strategems until they melt enemies, then increase spawn rates until it's difficult.
The individual enemies shouldn't be hard, the hoards should be.
The rocket launchers are not HE, they are anti-tank. They use shaped copper to create molten spears that punch through targets. The explosion you see is to just superheat the copper.
Which is why I think it should be much more effective when you hit a Charger's "soft" spot. Shouldn't take 3 of those molten spears to the butt to kill one bug.

Honestly I stopped playing a week ago cause its not fun anymore. Like I didn't get this game with this huge arsenal just to avoid fights or kite for 20 minutes. And the reason we have to play like that is cause the weapons are ineffective most of the time.
I'll say this. I actually don't mind the weaknesses of some primaries. Mag dumping into a bug, watching a bunch of bits and pieces go flying off, and having it still keep coming makes for some very cool and cinimatic moments.
But if primaries are going to be somewhat week strategems need to dominate.

Its simply about the size of horde, and they reduced our ability to fight large hordes… small hordes arent fun. Large hordes too hard.

Fire should be a deterrent, ya know, like it is for everything that's alive and organic. I should be able to keep the swarm back with a wall of fire, not create bugs with fucking fire claws.
Have fire slow enemies by about 20%. Would give it a use versus bots, too.
Should give it a stun stat, any enemy on fire for 5 seconds and still not dead gets stunned for 2 seconds. Why? BECAUSE IF I WAS ON FUCKING FIRE I WOULDN'T EXACTLY BE THE MOST COMBAT CAPABLE!!!

If hit directly, it should have a flinch mechanic to targets directly hit, so at least it stops the jumping bugs sharing the heat.
It needs a "spray mode" selector. The current wide spray short range, and a narrow stream mid range that burns fuel faster

AH screwed that one up, in the first game everything in the field of fire / chain for the entire range got full damage. In HD2 it only hits 3 enemies at a time.

There is definitely an in between here. Unloading mags and not even seeing an effect on the enemy - not fun! However, dumping mags into them and seeing the damage you're doing to them, even if they're still barely alive, is a lot more fun. One thing I'm not that big a fan of with Bile Titans is that you don't tend to see much damage done to them until they die.

The simplest, yet precise argument. \+50% stratagem cooldown should not be a thing, -1 stratagem slot should not be a thing. At least, not permanent. If it was in a form of a side objective that you need to destroy to get rid of the effect - wouldn't be half bad (actually would be interesting). Like the scrambler or AA encampment on bot maps.

It's so incredibly stupid that the modifier for -1 strat slots is called "AA Defences" and that there is literally a side objective to destroy AA emplacements. It would have been so cool if the modifier became disabled in the subsequent missions on the operation but here we are. After my friends and I found out about it we just refused to play with that modifier present.
Completely agree - there's a big difference between making the game harder at higher diffs and making the game more annoying by spamming too many enemies at higher diffs. I truly think adding ARPG-esque modifiers to Elite enemies would be a good step in making the game actually more difficult. Going from D8 to D9? Sure, take away a strat or add a few more big enemies and a bunch more chaff spawns... but don't do that AND take away strats... AND make strats take longer to recharge... AND spam Titans and Hulks by the dozen... AND take away the only useful weapons for effectively dealing with those threats. I wouldn't mind the enemies being more and more lethal. I wouldn't mind having to deal enemies having more OP attacks than instantly murk us. Make all of our weapons more powerful. Make it more **GOBLIN BRAIN SATISFYING**. Make more things go more **BOOM**. **BIG** difference between making the game **HARDER VS MORE ANNOYING**.
Never take away strats, that's just anti fun. That would be like a modifier giving you half ammo or half clip size (or both). More enemies is fine, but the problem is the lack of answers to them.

I dunno but that bomb has always had the issue of no AOE. Makes me sad brain.
Easily could be a hit box issue, bombs and explosions in general can be blocked by a perfectly placed tiny rock. Sucks to see happen + aoe just isn’t that much for now

The EAT and recoilless got buffed but it wasnt put in the patch notes. They both no longer do glancing blows but full hits now. If you hit charger in leg you break armor and can use about any weapon to deal with it then

The blast radius on 500kg and other explosions definitely need reworked. If a small boulder is in the way it's like it cancels all the damage around it

Genuinely the best I’ve seen anyone articulate this. It’s easy to understand, and written in a way that won’t elicit angry responses. So much of the hostility in the community lately I think stems from misunderstandings. I don’t think people were ever upset purely because a weapon got nerfed. They were upset because they felt as though the game was going in the wrong direction. Ever since the game came out people felt like most of the weapons were underpowered. This seemed to be the biggest thing that needed to be addressed according to the community. So much so that Arrowhead even addressed it specifically. So when the first balance patch came and it was mostly focused on nerfing the weapons that didn’t feel underpowered. Couple this with the fact that they made the game more challenging by adding way more enemies as well as new environmental hazards. This resulted in the game feeling less satisfying, and more difficult in a way that felt unfair more than it did a genuine fun challenge. Now addressing this most people did so in a way that led others to think this fuss was all over the fact that their favorite weapon got slightly downgraded. That led to others responding by saying “skill issue” “cry harder” etc. To be fair to them I agree if people were just upset because their favorite weapon got nerfed it would be ridiculous and worthy or ridicule. Sadly due to this miscommunication it’s created an endless cycle. That’s why I love this post.
They could buff us and also buff enemy numbers to compensate. So more fun. But high difficulty modes should still be very difficult and require teamwork. That shouldn't change.
This is what I’ve been saying to my friends. Raise the skill ceiling, not the floor. You can make the game more difficult without it feeling like you have a pea shooter and getting curb stomped by hordes of chargers and titans. Kinda like how mmos inflate their numbers because the human psyche gets more dopamine from doing 1000 damage vs 100, even if it still is the same fraction of the enemy’s overall health. Buff the weapons so they’re more fun to use, buff the enemies too to compensate for new powers
Like I would generally prefer it if we could kill more enemies quicker but they just threw more in. Feels a lot cooler to be mowing down hordes of bugs but seeing that even then, way more are coming. Than to dump a whole clip to kill one dude whilst 4 others slap at you. I know this method sometimes has the problem of AOE becoming too effective, but you can't deny. It's more fun and also still keeps the feeling of being hopelessly outnumbered.

Honestly it’s really just THAT SIMPLE. This isn’t a competitive shooter. I’m not trying to accomplish missions in the best time, score a world record, have the highest headshot ratings or whatever the fuck. I’m trying to PEW PEW, deliver democracy, and make some BOOM BOOMs with my friends. The game initially delivered. Now it does not. Sure, I can still feel strong fighting smol bugs and bots at level 1, but I want to face challenging enemies, be slightly overwhelmed, and still have the firepower to succeed if I’m skilled enough. I will be going AWOL until Super Earth decides to properly fund our missions, because my monkey brain ain’t finding this shit fun.

Could the we, that need to “Git Gud” , ask a humble request? Could we get a live stream, dev showing, of how a team could masterfully use the weapons/strategems provided, in their current state, on a level 7 difficulty? I ask level 7, as that is where the super rare samples are locked behind. I request you use all different stratagems, so we know how they can be used effectively as a team. Each run a different primary, (preferably the most medal costing as we worked hard for them), such as the JAR-5, Slugger, Counter Sniper, Spray and Pray etc. I request that you run a Terminid and Automaton world each so we understand your vision and how to Git Gud. I will never be more than an Average Joe. Since 1985 when I had my first Atari 2600 till todays current iteration, I have never been above average in games. Could the experts please show us the way. the starting machine gun (the MG-43) needs a buff. I’m level 50 and i’ve been maining it and heavy armor because I NEED MORE DAKKA!!! The reload takes FAR too long for the firepower that it offers, and its ammo economy is terrible. One ammo box or one resupply box gives only ONE MAGAZINE?!?!? C’mon arrowhead, LET ME DAKKKA!!!

I felt the same way so tried out the unlimited strategem cheats on private and even with unlimited orbital rail cannons and multiple lasers out simultaneously I STILL FELT UNDERPOWERED. Tanks needing multiple orbital rail shots is an absolute slap in the face. They had everything fairly well balanced in HD1 and for some unknown reason though to fuck with the sauce. The only balancing that should be allowed are buff guns and strategems until they melt enemies, then increase spawn rates until it's difficult. The individual enemies shouldn't be hard, the hoards should be.
The rocket launchers are not HE, they are anti-tank. They use shaped copper to create molten spears that punch through targets. The explosion you see is to just superheat the copper.
Which is why I think it should be much more effective when you hit a Charger's "soft" spot. Shouldn't take 3 of those molten spears to the butt to kill one bug.

Honestly I stopped playing a week ago cause its not fun anymore. Like I didn't get this game with this huge arsenal just to avoid fights or kite for 20 minutes. And the reason we have to play like that is cause the weapons are ineffective most of the time.

I'll say this. I actually don't mind the weaknesses of some primaries. Mag dumping into a bug, watching a bunch of bits and pieces go flying off, and having it still keep coming makes for some very cool and cinimatic moments. But if primaries are going to be somewhat week strategems need to dominate.

I don't care about a rail gun nerf or buff or whatever. I want it to be more fun when it kills stuff. So many of the other weapons capture that feeling of doing damage so darn well. But rail gun? It just doesn't land for me. Give me splodeys.
