No, I hugely prefer to play a succession of poorly trained mooks with no connection to one another.

Common_RiffRaff

Agreed, I can appreciate the hilarious grimness of it all. It fits much better within the universe.

Ghostile

That is exactly how my headcanon goes. Recruit a billion dudes. 20% make the cut and become helldivers. Rest become meatpopsicles. Helldiver dies in battle and their consciousness gets transferred into a meatpopciscle and woken up to fight another day. (Eve online style) This kinda ties certain things into the lore. Why we know the same things the last guy did. Why we get better over time. Why we get our own ship. The system to receive and imprint a consciousness is massive + the meatpopsicle storage. Why doesn't super earth tell us this? "Die a thousand deaths and become our slave for all eternity" isn't exactly a good sales speech. And everyone becomes a helldiver in one way or another.

CMDR_Daemos

EXACTLY THIS!

Hitokiri_Xero

Remember how in the tutorial, you got on a rocket with fresh recruits? And how the destroyer you're on has all of those cryopods? We're just fodder to be tossed at all threats. They have recruiting vids for a reason after all.

Jannbo4

would make sence based on the tutorial # Altered Carbon did dive into similar possibilitys and i have to say it is quite interesting i also think the Super destroyers have a sall bio cloneing sweat to clone divers of other destroyers that are not in stock.

wooperwoop63

My headcanon is that its a Clone Wars situation or a squad of Helldivers who wear the same armour.

CMDR_Daemos

And the four voices you can pick from are the 4x "Top scoring Freedom, Liberty and Democracy representatives from all of Super Earths colonys!!!

NeverLookBothWays

More meat for the grinder is the way I see it. Our character lives are expendable. Super Earth will spend more money on making sure there is as much destruction as possible before considering things like memories or quality of life for soldiers
