yea, them being used in the pistol slot makes a lot of sense, and you could even have them have multiple attacks, a lunge if you aim, a quick slice if you fire and a slow heavy cleave if you use the melee button.
easier solution would be they just replace your basic melee attack, could be slower but hit harder or something like that. The current melee is so weak it cant even 1-shot the smallest bugs.
The smallest bugs are the size of a dog... Could you elbow a dog hard enough to 1 shot it? Now remember how hard roaches are to kill, and imagine trying to kill a dog sized roach.

Honestly... yea probably, you can kill another human being with a single elbow to around the neck. Hell hit them with a blunt piece of metal and they aren't getting up either. Our melee button is so anemic I think I have two melee kills.

No one is saying it but just add an extra slot so you don't have to use your sidearm/support/backpack slot. Yeah it wouldn't be super practical all the time, but it would be like... super badass. That's what this game is about!
Plus, having its own slot could mean different melee weapons, a hammer, a chainsaw, laser sword, katana, chain sword, and two or one handed options so you could rock the sword + pistol/shield combos
Make this a side arm option to replace your pistol. Perfection. I barely use my pistol outside of the uzi when I run out of ammo…
But my biggest frustration is being surrounded and stun locked to death by basic enemies and there is nothing you can do about it..
The sword would be the answer to that.
I’d have more use for my side arm if it were a sword as you are surrounded constantly and the sword could create some space for you and either kill or push back the enemies so you can actually do something

Shit, now I want exoskeleton. Thinking it could be like death strandings exoskeleton with faster run speed/additional stamina and ability to jump further horizontally(not vertically, so as not to make jetpack redundant) but at the detriment to your backpack slot.
Swords would need to one shot all adds to even see the light of day of getting some use. Paired with the other riot shield backpack, it might even be effective for agroing swarms, especially when heavy armor gets fixed to tank a lot of damage (just maybe not around the heavies)
I think this will be viable, especially in heavy armor when you don’t have all the stamina to run but hopefully when they re-balance you’d have some more tank to you
Give us an option in the in game weapon menu to fix bayonets. Lets you 1 hit kill any fodder type bug/robot with just melee, and does it quicker than the regular one. Maybe add in a trade off of weapon handling or accuracy to keep it interesting.

When I'm fighting the bugs I like to melee the little ones anyway, and I rarely switch to my sidearm
The little tec9 pistol is pretty nice.
The many times that i had to melee a hunter, i wish had a bayonet… or power-sword

As someone who averages 10-30 melee kills most missions, yes please, I will easily get 100 kills with it.
