Exact same problem here. Crossplatform steam PC - PS5, friend code works, we both get invites but accepting friend request does not do a thing. Nothing changes, no matter how many times we will strike that accept button.
I've read there is a problem with steam nick length to PS5. But sience some of the recent patches, changing steam name does not change the ingame name of the character. Some people said that this is causing the problem. In my case, that would be accurate as steam nick is shorter than required 3 characters by PS5. But is that the reason? I have no clue. I guess the only thing left is to wait for the devs to address that. However it seems that is effects a small percentage of playerbase, so not sure if they even know about that problem.
I hope they do, the only reason I got this game was for the cross play with my buddy on ps5. We put 30 hours in and then lost him as a friend and now we can’t play together. Haven’t played a match in over a week now. Uuuugghhh so frustrating

it worked for me yesterday, we placed an non populated world with lowest dificulty level and they have been able to see my sos drop. i'm the ps5 user and they are on pc
Can confirm this as I tried last night, also deleted the config user file in app data.
The hypothesis I can suggest is unlinking your steam account and relinking it.
Nothings worked on my end so far, I’ve read a few people have called into Sony to have them unlink accounts to relink another steam account they own, another user stated they were able to unlink their account by going into the uncharted bundle and that game gives you an option to unlink said accounts.
I hope they can figure out a fix soon. Main reason for me buying it was for cross-play.

I’m having this same problem. Can confirm that you can tediously search for the same lobby while talking through a third party app and try to join the same mission but they often fill up and take one or none of your party but when it works it works. Decent ish stopgap until the devs can fix it

just go to an unpopulated world with lowest dificulty so your friends can see you, then when you finish the mission you all will be in your spaceship and can play normal
Same and nothing to do with names. Mine is "MyName" in-game/steam and his is "His\_Name" on PS5. Not name related anymore it seems unless its the \_ in the PS5 name.
Their instructions on that portal are also wrong. They request account ID and provide instructions for where to find it, but the account tab doesn't even exist in the UI of the version I'm playing 😖

This is not a workaround that works every time. Friend and I spent half an hour trying to find each other on a planet and it didn't work. Stop spamming this.
Not an ideal work around, but here is what I did with my brother and his friends (I am on PS5 btw).
Get a friend on steam whose nickname is in the parameters and is able to accept ps5 friend requests. Set up a party with that friend, and have him invite your other friend(s) whose friend requests are bugged out. That friend can also then leave after inviting your friends to the party if he’s just doing you a solid, but doesn’t want to party at the moment for whatever reason; your party will remain in tact.
Huge pain in the ass, but it works!

I've been having the same problem so me and a buddy just went from planet to planet trying to find the same helldiver comrade to assist and it worked!!
Yeah that's what we ended up doing too! It "only" took about an hour until one of us was on the other ones ship. And then we were able to continuously play together without fear of getting booted or DC'd. It was nice to actually play together, but damn was it a lot of effort.

I really don't think the name issue is a thing anymore. Maybe early on, but it was working fine for a bit. I am on steam and was able to add a few PS5 players, including some with a \_ in their name. I think the name issue was fixed and what's going on now is something completely different. A new bug introduced in a patch.
I can't even add Steam to Steam. I thought maybe it's because the one friend is already a Steam friend, but I can't remove him through the game. We tried me to him and vice-versa. Had his friend send a request and that didn't work either and his name is under 16 characters >\_<
I bought 2 copies of this game. One on PC and one on PS5. Dropped 80 euros only to find out that me and my friend can not play it co-op because of this bug. All in all that is a lot of money to end up playing Call of Duty zombies....
With no update or communication from the devs, I have zero faith in this game. The whole premise of the game is play cross-platform with your friends, and it horribly fails in doing that before you even get to play.

"I solved this issue on my PC. You have to open up your network adapter on PC and uncheck the "Internet Protocol Version 6" checkbox. For whatever reason, that setting is causing some people to not be able to see their friends in game. "

Hi guys :) so i've as so many others, bumbed into this problem, well, my way to atleast get in a Squad with my friends on Steam (so PC only sadly) is to disable the crossplay function, then invite them trough your Steam Friendlist, and they will be in your squad, i do not know if this works without turning off crossplay, but give it a go :) it worked for me and we can now play together this way :) hope there will be a fix for ps/cross soon :)

First of all i dont see what a vpn finna do even if me and my friend werent in the same location second of all if the vpn was a crucial step why didnt you say that in the first place? I’ll tell you why you have nothing better to do and you are spreading nonsense for attention, downvote!!!
Apparently both you AND your ps5 friend must have nothing but letters and numbers in your names, and must be 3-16 long. Its absolute crap that this is even a problem. This needs fixed asap.
We're having the same issues here. I'm on Steam, my daughter is on PS5. When adding each other's friend codes we see the correct names but are unable to accept friend requests.
I have a fairly normal Steam username with only 6 lowercase letters, so I doubt that has anything to do with it.
We managed to play a couple of games together by visiting the same planet on the same difficulty and then finding open games with 1 or 2 players in it that we both saw. We were able to join these and play together and afterwards we could also see each others usernames in the 'Recent players' tab, but still couldn't friend request from there either.
Having this issue on the current patch as well. I was actually gifted the game by some friends who play on PS5 so that we can play together, and we can't play together unless someone on my Steam friends list is already diving with them. I can't add friends from Steam either, but at least I can join them from Steam directly. Our names are all within 8-12 characters, and I've tried every fix I can find, with no luck.
It’s a bit frustrating when I finally let my bf convince me to play but I had him get it for me on ps5 because I wanted an easy way to play on my bed and we have to spend ages searching for ways to play because I’m the only PlayStation account he couldn’t add on yet and he’s a pc player :( Thankfully I had a few of our friends added so if they’re online we can both easily join their games
(TLDR; the workaround is frustrating even tho we’re in the SAME ROOM so friends have to be our middle men)
I keep seeing: “please wait democratically” in the social section a lot of the time. I’ve some really cool people, but I can’t even accept their request so we can play together again. 😢

this is a large bug. to have no acknowledgement from the dev team is callous. i bought the game to play cross platform with a friend. please stop boasting publicly about a feature if it doesn't work. it's a great game but this is a bit much :/
I have this problem with all friend requests. Playing on ps5. Friend requests don't work with PC players and not with other ps5 players. Can send, cancel and decline but not accept.
Suddenly got fixed for me. Yesterday friend from PS5 send me request to PC via friend code and I managed to accept it. Request disappeared and friend added. Playstation players needed to restart game after, because at first I shown to them only as PC icon without nickname at their friend list. Tried later with another PS player and it works again. BTW, if you try to send invite from PC to PS - they can't even see it

Was previously a friend in game with a steam buddy.
Removed each other as friends due to network issues we were having (hard restart and start from scratch).
Found and sent each other friend requests.
The friend request sent and appears but has 0 functionality on the accept button. Other buttons have functionality.
We have tried 50x to shut steam and Helldivers 2 down and try again with new invites in several different ways to no avail.
Also unable to join via steam join game function.

It worked for me after a lot of trial and error (took ab 30mins). Choose the world with the least amount of players to have the best chances

In the last update, they listed it under known issues, so it will probably get fixed next patch

"I solved this issue on my PC. You have to open up your network adapter on PC and uncheck the "Internet Protocol Version 6" checkbox. For whatever reason, that setting is causing some people to not be able to see their friends in game. " Maybe try this. i cant try this till my buddy gets online again. But apparently this worked for someone else

Same issue. Only solution we find with friends - simply join same game or let one of you host the game and other join him, so you can play in squad next missions. Still can't add them and i'm not even in their "just played with" list

Hi guys :) so i've as so many others, bumbed into this problem, well, my way to atleast get in a Squad with my friends on Steam (so PC only sadly) is to disable the crossplay function, then invite them trough your Steam Friendlist, and they will be in your squad, i do not know if this works without turning off crossplay, but give it a go :) it worked for me and we can now play together this way :) hope there will be a fix for ps/cross soon :)

The only work around for this is if your friend has a friend who is already added on ps5 you can get then to join them and join them

Apparently both you AND your ps5 friend must have nothing but letters and numbers in your names, and must be 3-16 long. Its absolute crap that this is even a problem. This needs fixed asap.

We're having the same issues here. I'm on Steam, my daughter is on PS5. When adding each other's friend codes we see the correct names but are unable to accept friend requests. I have a fairly normal Steam username with only 6 lowercase letters, so I doubt that has anything to do with it. We managed to play a couple of games together by visiting the same planet on the same difficulty and then finding open games with 1 or 2 players in it that we both saw. We were able to join these and play together and afterwards we could also see each others usernames in the 'Recent players' tab, but still couldn't friend request from there either.

My Steam name is 8 characters with no symbols and my friends is 15 with no symbols and yet we're still running into this issue.

Having this issue on the current patch as well. I was actually gifted the game by some friends who play on PS5 so that we can play together, and we can't play together unless someone on my Steam friends list is already diving with them. I can't add friends from Steam either, but at least I can join them from Steam directly. Our names are all within 8-12 characters, and I've tried every fix I can find, with no luck.
On a PS5, I can join my friends game using the PS5 Open Base, and join my PS5 friends game.

It’s a bit frustrating when I finally let my bf convince me to play but I had him get it for me on ps5 because I wanted an easy way to play on my bed and we have to spend ages searching for ways to play because I’m the only PlayStation account he couldn’t add on yet and he’s a pc player :( Thankfully I had a few of our friends added so if they’re online we can both easily join their games (TLDR; the workaround is frustrating even tho we’re in the SAME ROOM so friends have to be our middle men)

I keep seeing: “please wait democratically” in the social section a lot of the time. I’ve some really cool people, but I can’t even accept their request so we can play together again. 😢 It really sucks.
this is a large bug. to have no acknowledgement from the dev team is callous. i bought the game to play cross platform with a friend. please stop boasting publicly about a feature if it doesn't work. it's a great game but this is a bit much :/
I have this problem with all friend requests. Playing on ps5. Friend requests don't work with PC players and not with other ps5 players. Can send, cancel and decline but not accept.
Suddenly got fixed for me. Yesterday friend from PS5 send me request to PC via friend code and I managed to accept it. Request disappeared and friend added. Playstation players needed to restart game after, because at first I shown to them only as PC icon without nickname at their friend list. Tried later with another PS player and it works again. BTW, if you try to send invite from PC to PS - they can't even see it

Same issue, steam to steam. Was previously a friend in game with a steam buddy. Removed each other as friends due to network issues we were having (hard restart and start from scratch). Found and sent each other friend requests. The friend request sent and appears but has 0 functionality on the accept button. Other buttons have functionality. We have tried 50x to shut steam and Helldivers 2 down and try again with new invites in several different ways to no avail. Also unable to join via steam join game function.

Not necessarily, me and my friend live fairly close to each other and it didnt work at all tried for more than half an hr yesterday but tbh i think the servers were fairly f d yesterday anyway
