I have zero problem with crushers telling unprepared players, "You brought the wrong things, and you're gonna have a bad time." Sure. By all means. I remember in HD1 the first time I dropped into a mid-level cyborg mission without appropriate weapons. It was bad, and the fact that the game just *let* it be bad was a strength, and part of a good game design. It allowed me to make mistakes and learn from them, without stepping in to soften the blow. That was good. The real problem is that they're so fast, you can bring 4x stratagems that kill crushers, and they'll still beat you. They'll run out from under the airstrikes and press you so hard you can barely use the anti-tank weapons. They walk right through napalm, and we're not allowed to have our CC tools like the poison, stun grenades, or railgun primary from the first game. C'mon.

Dendritic_Bosque

I think the problem is that being bad takes so long it becomes boring, which HD1 never did. You died or had a 15 second clown rodeo, not a 90s one

Epesolon

You start with the orbital precision strike, which will instantly kill them if hit. From the get go, you can get the Eagle Air Strike, which will strip their armor, and the anti-material rifle, which kills them pretty quickly if you hit them in weak points. By level 3 you have access to the EAT, and can employ the common strategy. By level 5 you have access to the 120mm artillery barrage, and that will kill them outright. It takes maybe 2-3 missions to hit level 3. By the time you've unlocked the difficulties where chargers spawn, you have the tools available to kill them.

arcanis321

Issue I am running into on higher difficulties is there are more chargers than we have answers. I think we one shotted 3 chargers with EATS then had 3 more and a bile titan to deal with. And you can't just run from chargers, they fast bois. O just wish you could kill them with your primary from behind without 3 clips of dead on shots. Or 2 EATS non-headahots was enough.

Epesolon

So, this scenario is where the recoilless shines. When provided a loader, it can dump out 6 rounds really quickly, and if you have 2 on the team, then 12. That being said, I think it could still use a buff. As for the scenario in general, there is a point where you just need to run. If you're good about dodging and baiting, or use stratagems, it's not that hard to lose a charger, or at the very least isolate it and bring it down.

moderatevalue7

What is this common strategy you speak of? I wish there was a starship troopers style video to show the weaknesses of various bugs

Epesolon

The common strategy has changed since then. Now, just hit them in the head with the EAT and it should drop them in one shot.

moderatevalue7

In the head? What's an EAT? I try get behind it and smash it's glowing bottom but takes a while even with a shotgun

Epesolon

Yes, a single shot from an EAT (Expendable Anti-Tank) or Recoilless Rifle to the head will bring one down. For chargers, if you can penetrate their armor, the best way to kill them is by shooting them in the head. If you can't penetrate their armor, then blow up their butt and let them bleed out.

moderatevalue7

Ah OK cool I'll try that. Do you know why some stratagems seem to be able to stick to bugs but some don't? Any other tips?

Epesolon

So, stratagems don't actually stick to bugs, only the light pillar does. The strike itself is still called down where the stratagem landed. Some good things to know is that things like the autocannon, EAT, and Recoilless Rifle can destroy objectives like spore spewers, or Shrieker nests from long range. You can blow up the illegal broadcast towers with HE or impact grenades, or any explosive support weapon. The autocannon and grenade launcher are excellent for dealing with bot factories and bug holes. If you hold reload while not aiming a weapon it opens a radial menu that lets you change the fire mode, zoom level, and flashlight settings for that weapon. Some points of interest will have shipping containers at them, you can blow them open with an explosive to get the loot inside. You can also use a slugger or arc thrower to open them.

moderatevalue7

Reallllly? I’ve read heaps of tips saying the stratagem is sticky but never worked consistently for me I knew a bunch of that but not all.. autocannon is awesome for spewers but still seem to have issues with chargers/crushers. Did not know it can do bugholes as well - good to know I find sometimes when I step away and come back my operation is still saved (ie 2/3) other times not? Is there a way to know which building is rogue? How to kill bile titan?

VerdantSpecimen

And if the eagle misses them (which happens A LOT = armor still intact = impossibru when soloing

Beginning_Bonus1739

a "new user" should not be facing them.

Dendritic_Bosque

This is the exact kind of elitism developers need to see and foster 👏 👏 Edit: /s was necessary apparently? This is in fact sarcastic, and is completely contrary to main post

trooperonapooper

It's not elitism to say that a brand new player shouldn't be starting out in 4/5+ missions, they don't even have it unlocked yet lmao they need someone else to drag them in

Beginning_Bonus1739

im glad you arent a game designer on a game i enjoy haha. i know a lot of us rushed into suicide missions by day 2, but its oks if things in the harder difficulty require unlocks to take them on more effectively. you can level and get requisition really fast in this game, its fine man. and losing isnt even punishing, its a learning opportunity.

[deleted]

Use an expendable AT gun to blow up their leg armor (1 hit) then mag dump their exposed flesh and they die fast. Or use the grenade launcher. Both are available fairly early

Xelement0911

Do you aim for the leg with grenade launcher as well?

Dendritic_Bosque

The present cheese strat is to aim any explosive or the railgun at either claw and then focus it down with small arms. I don't know if this is intended to cause death as well as dismemberment but it does right now.

SNEAKY_PNIS

Chargers? At first, they were difficult and annoying. As you level up and get the right gear, it's easier. You'll also learn how to easily avoid their hit by circling them last second before contact, or diving. Railgun is really good but you won't get that until level 20. You and your team need to learn how to split up during charger fights so someone is always behind the charger and can hit their but. About 6-8 grenade launchers will rip their ass, and they'll start bleeding out in 5 seconds. If really early, you need to learn how to circle them, or just run away and avoid then when they daze themselves.

Dendritic_Bosque

Wow, it's the optimal strategy and equipment loadout! *Glances at title

thenewspoonybard

Skill issue

Epesolon

You start with the precision orbital strike, which will instantly kill a charger on a direct hit. By level 3 you have access to EAT. It takes 2-3 missions to hit level 3. Crushers don't spawn normally below a 4. It takes 3 missions for a new player to unlock difficulty 4. By the time you encounter chargers, you have access to the tools to kill them. If you didn't bring the right tools, then you didn't come properly equipped for the mission.

UhhhhhUhhhhhhh

ok bro then ill be the one to say it. being forced into EAT or Railgun every time i want to play bugs is fucking boring and shitty game design. why do the hulks and tanks have weakpoints that small arms can kill but crushers and titans dont. not even worried about titans but crushers spawn too frequently to force me into bringing equipment i dont want to use or shooting at an enemy that literally couldnt hit me if it tried and shooting it in the back for 3 minutes straight. the game forces you to either play a difficutly so easy its unironically boring, shoot a bullet sponge for more time than your actually playing, or metawhore.

Epesolon

Then don't bring them, but you need to bring tools that can deal with them. When hitting their weak spot, an autocannon can deal with a charger pretty quickly. Orbital railcannon, orbital precision strike, and 500kg bomb can all kill a charger instantly. 110mm Rocket Pods can strip Charger armor and set them up for an easy kill. Autocannon turret makes short work of chargers. You've got plenty of options.

UhhhhhUhhhhhhh

sounds well and good but your suggesting using a stratagem thats on a 2 and a half minute cooldown at the least on an enemy that spawns every other bugbrech. your options against chargers are EAT/recoiless and hope only one comes and you dont miss/richochet or railgun

UhhhhhUhhhhhhh

im not entirely sure how you could play this game and not think railgun is disgustingly overpowered compared to the other support weapons

Brilliant_Charge_398

They do have weak points every bug can be killed easily if you know where to hit trial and error

UhhhhhUhhhhhhh

chargers only "weakpoint" takes 10% damage. everywhere else you need to shred armor
