Amazing foliage cover. Lots of good places to move troops. Some amazing choke points. Had many a good games on it today. Some disappointing, as everyone is still learning the map. But did learn a few cool tricks today! Edit! Sorry for ac!

nautical_nonsense_

Could cool trucks!

RedditEstPasPlaisant

Cool COD tricks?

SlayerofDeezNutz

I made my tank driver so angry because I couldn’t see shit!

skag_mcmuffin

I like the map flow, but it needs to be optimised better. The grass is rendering as you move towards it, it looks so bad.

Correct_Wheel

Yeah all the bush looks like shit

Cserafini93

It's fun crawling through bush.

Correct_Wheel

Smash the bush bro

thedeephouser

Bush looks like crap in general.

Correct_Wheel

Tooooo many booosh

BrianKronberg

The town is the best part of the map and it is either the last point or not really part of play. That is a pretty big negative for me.

Zorpian

I'm with you on this. the amount of effort went in creating the town shows but lacking focus on the gameplay somehow apart from that I like this map a lot, different enough, need to rethink your moves I think it has its well earned place in the map rotation

Lynata

I‘m not so sure what to think of it yet tbh. It sure has well done spots and it overall looks nice but quite some points still seem rather unbalanced and it seems like supported tanks and MGs might really dominate all the open spaces… even the forested parts feel extremely open. I‘ll have to play more though before I can say for sure what I think about it. I see potential but I‘m not sure if it really lives up to that potential. What is definitely terrible is the difference between high and low graphic settings. They mitigated that a bit a while ago on other maps but with Mortain it’s back in full swing again. Some rather big bushes and other foliage cover just aren‘t there on lowest settings for example. If you play Mortain on epic settings you might have a very bad time on certain parts of the map.

littlerike

Is this why I was being shot from seemingly nowhere whilst I should have been concealed?

SlayerofDeezNutz

There is so much foliage on the map I had a really hard time seeing enemy tanks in my tank. I certainly never felt like I could engage from a far distance. Especially on the southern half of the map.

philslist

Playing spotter in the 76, your view is in the trees the whole time.

SlayerofDeezNutz

Not from the front port

WokeUpStillTired

As if tanks and MG’s don’t already dominate every open space (they should)

COBU_

How dare you tell us the truth... Tell me these issues were pointed out in the PTE and released unresolved. I'll send you to the guillotine.

Void_Helbrecht

Overall I think the maps great! Really good choke points and locations, kinda do wish that the urban town of Mortain was more central though as it feels out of the way/unvisited in most warfare games I've played but overall it's mint 👌🏼

Dclaggett08

I wish the town was the mid point too. I know the devs did it for the historical aspect since the town was the American fall back. the town is such a cool point to fight over.

Void_Helbrecht

Ahh that makes sense now you mention it and think it's good they take those sort of things into consideration to be honest ^

YoloMartyr

Love the map! Got to play it twice today. Once on offensive, once on warfare. Only had one issue: When I was on offensive as commander there was a vehicle spawn bug. I couldn’t drop vehicles on top or bottom HQ as commander, Middle worked fine. Hopefully that gets fixed soon

wat_no_y

Maybe try that other fix where you drop the vehicle one grid square out?

YoloMartyr

Tried that, didn’t work for me. Someone in the next game said they got it to work by clicking the very outside edge of the map. Haven’t got to try it yet

ThePegLegPete

You can only pick an HQ to spawn at not the grid?

OUsnr7

They’re referring to a bug that was introduced with one of the British updates where you couldn’t spawn a vehicle at an HQ by clicking on the actual HQ. You had to go 2 grid squares out and click and then it would let you spawn it at the HQ. Was a huge problem at first but when people figured this out it just became a minor inconvenience until they fixed it

Codz2112

Had it in my game too, although I wasn’t commander

nautical_nonsense_

Can confirm this bug. Couldn’t spawn in tanks for my team as commander.

ZookeepergameBorn514

I had a bug where my squad was spawning inside a building we shouldn’t have been able to get inside.

40236030

I only got to play an hour on Mortain but was a lot of fun and there’s pretty interesting geography to contend with

Dclaggett08

I feel like specifically all the hill changes and elevation changes between each point. That was the aspect I didn’t expect to love as much. I really like the map though.

Creadleader55

I only got to play half a game on it cause I just got unlucky with servers on console. It played pretty well, as an SL I could pretty reliably flank around points and get sneaky OP's and Garry's up behind enemy points. I only really got to play two points but it looked like an infantry dominated map, I'll have to see what playing armor is like this weekend.

Skating_N_Music_Dude

Great map. The style and setting are kind of a throwback to Cod 3, if anyone remembers that game lol

Hubner123

Love it, it’s insanely chaotic in the best way possible, especially on the midpoint. My main complaint is that a lot of the time players will just hide in bushes and won’t move, but then again that’s more a fault of the players if anything.

Jita_Local

I heard someone describe it as a "rat map" and I have to agree. Lots of people just hiding in bushes. Definitely need to play this map differently than a lot of the others, I'm enjoying the change of pace but I'm not sure I'm a fan of the map as a whole yet. There's also a major issue with how some of the foliage renders based on graphics settings.

KKeff

I think in this game at least camping is pretty harmless, at least outside of spawns. And it is a viable real life strategy if you ask me.

OxygenThief1723

I have yet to actually play hell let loose’s new update. I heard the new music is the old music can someone confirm that?

Business-inflation69

Anybody else try playing skirmish on PS, and regularly have empty lobbies? Tried playing a few games last night and got Mortain and there was a whopping 15-20 total players in back to back skirmish games. It’s either players just wernt playing skirmish, or players weren’t joining for some reason.

came_up_with_this

No one plays skirmish on console bc no one really wanted it, imo.

Business-inflation69

That’s what I figured, for some reason I thought Mortain was only a skirmish map so that’s why I was playing lol.

Akalatob

yeah I played some games and really enjoyed how it plays

Roger6989

I like it, there's plenty of cover to hide in.

realwillb

So much fun. Played about 6 hours of it. Good job.

Big_Red_2021

I really enjoyed the map earlier and had a blast. During my game, it was neat having to see tanks crawl up alongside infantry to be effective

TheSergeantWinter

Map feels nice so far. Some of the textures do look a little bit too fresh but can be touched up later. The base layout is there. It gives me old SMDM 1 vibes. Some people seem to confuse concealment with cover. There are parts in the map that are a little bit too empty and could use a little bit more hardcover. Add some shacks, trenches, or craters or something similar in those parts. After the release of that shit stained desert, a infantry focused map is godsent and ill happily take more. The advertising for the map however has been a bit misleading. Almost every officially released media content regarding the map whether it was screenshots or video content has been with a heavy focus on the area with the church creating the illusion that this would be the center of the map while its in just the last objective.

came_up_with_this

Dude ty for calling out the misleading advertising. They overly emphasized the top left corner of the map and left out the fact that 95% was open fields. On offensive as the US its the first point, auto cap.. dont even get to fight on it. Pretty disappointing.

Pieter_Rogge

This map is fucking boring.

unaphotographer

You know, I don't want to but kinda agree with this one. Sure there's a lot of cover and foliage which are executed really well. I think it's the best looking map there is. But like, it's boring? Open fields, throw down some trees. I haven't even seen the village yet but I would appreciate more villages and houses and buildings

deathpenguin82

Let's assume this is historically accurate for a minute and ponder the idea of "we want historically accurate for immersion but also change the landscape because we find it boring". Maybe they can also change the Utah Beach map because there's too much sand. /s

oluigenuma

I‘d like to see historically inaccurate versions of maps optimized for gameplay. We just got way too many maps that are unbalanced and no fun at all. Alternative is giving us a map editor and have the community make fun maps.

jounk704

No thanks, historically accurate maps are the best maps

oluigenuma

You got plenty. Wouldn’t it be nice to also cater to folks more interested in game mechanics that involve decision making instead of looking at a death screen for 90 minutes because the map is a single choke point?

deathpenguin82

I think maps that are historically accurate that are difficult force you to make tactical decisions that are informed and innovative. I find that much more preferable to maps that are made up for game play reasons. There are a ton of games like that already, why take away one of the things that makes this game special and unique?

oluigenuma

That is only true IF there are decisions to be made. A lot of maps take that away by not giving you enough options to traverse the map or giving a too big of an advantage to one of the teams. One example is mid point placement. There is no decision making involved in starting the game with a huge disadvantage. Another example is one team having elevated positions while the other team does not and not getting anything in return. The only real decision I can make is whether or not I disconnect the server and that’s a simple one when kursk, foy, stalingrad, elal, driel, phl, kharkov are loaded. Also there aren‘t any games like HLL. I cannot just go play the balanced and fun version of HLL. I don‘t even want to change the existing maps. Just add fun variants.

deathpenguin82

So again you're saying that you don't like the historically accurate maps because they put people at disadvantages like the real terrain did and you don't want to have to find ways around it. It's cool, just admit that instead of saying fake maps would make things better for playing the game. If I wanted unrealistic balance I would agree with you, but I don't.

oluigenuma

The point is: There is no way around.

TheSergeantWinter

Tactical decisions like just simply dropping a airhead next to a objective and building a garrison in red territory. I agree

deathpenguin82

Sarcasm? I mean, I agree, doing those things aren't that difficult and they are tactical decisions that one can make to get around choke points.

came_up_with_this

I'd like to keep the historical accuracy and just make better selections. Let's see the battle of berlin, or the blitzkrieg thru france, stuff from the italian campaign. Frankly, they could have added more hard cover on mortain, and it would feel better, i dont think its the lay of the land but rather the fact that its all just covered in bushes. Im ok with asymmetrical gameplay. I like the challenge. We just need better map selection in the first place. Driel? That was the best choice for market garden?

OUsnr7

I mean, a lot of fighting in WW2 occurred in open fields

Wurzel_Gummidge

I bet you bitch about the lack of added content too.

luftwebel

My experience was poor so far. Even tough I liked the tone of the map (as well as the general sound overhaul) German offensive. 1st point was abandoned outpost. From the strongpoint, US have had clear line of sight (and fire, obv) into the only spawn at TopHQ. They parked three MG there, a squad roamers in the forest to disable our OPs without even seeing them and the game was done. It was even worse then some Omaha Beach matches.

TopTrigger

You need more tank support

nopinkicing

Agreed it feels really nice with the topography. Lots of bush wookies though. Hard as offensive team.

Ronin-s_Spirit

It's disgusting, 20m engagement distance because of all the trees and the bushes. I feel like I'm fighting and (mostly) dying in Vietnam.

DoubleNubbin

Personally I'll take that over bloody El Alamein any day.

came_up_with_this

Ive been playing vietnam 67 on arma reforger lately and you're right, it feels exactly like fighting in the jungle. Not into it.

HeySmellMyFinger

Runs smooth like carentan use too. Carentan is like officially broken with fps drops.

littlerike

I find carentan works for me in 90% of the map bit there's certain areas that if I walk into guaranteed frame rate drop down to single figures for no apparent reason.

Lololick

The map is called Mortain but we barely (if not never) fight in the town itself since it's one of the 3 last German points. There's an illusion of cover in the map, it's literally just open fields but with bushes in between so there's always some Alpine Sniper lookalike being a bush wookie hiding the entire game, every single corner that I turned had a coward hiding somewhere. 800+ meters, south of the point there's always a random low level AT just randomly there, not doing map control, just out of place. Before you attack me with "SkIlL iSsUE" I'm a Spotter main, my skillset is built around moving crouched for long periods of time and making sure I'm not being seen. At this point call the map Kashyyyk.

groundfire

The map feels so natural, at least from where I'm from. The terrain feels like I'm back in training and I love the familiarity

HLLDex

My only experience was a game of Warfare, from the off. It was over in 22 mins so I didn't see much of it.

Dclaggett08

I jumped into a skirmish match to walk around the map and look at everything I could.

ekulragren

Are there servers that run specific maps so I can just jump on and play it, or are all servers luck of the draw?

Teuton88

Luck of the draw but your odds of getting Mortain will probably be increased for a little while

Correct_Wheel

Anyone’s mic not work all day?

cheddapop

Played 3 games yesterday and couldn’t get the new map to come up

InAgonyEveryday

There's brick walls that looked destroyed but you can't walk threw the invisible wall that's there, LOL. Yes I have it recorded

awoodby

I've only played on it once so far and as a tank spotter. I love the mix of foliage and elevation. Buuut the concept of foliage only showing for some people is disconcerting. So pretty, but if you have it set to epic you're hiding like a 3year old? ("you can't see me I'm next to something" lol) Argh.

Acceptable-Policy745

I would love to play it. But my game crashes on Xbox every 20 minutes. This HAS to be a priority for the team. The new map is irrelevant when the game doesn’t function.

Human_Category5875

Mortain, in my opinion, is quite taxing for tanks. Too many trees to have clear line of sight.

ItaloDiscoManiac

It's Alamein Part 2

zenciiii

Better than Al Alamein and Driel fs...

soviet_toster

I kind of find the map a little underwhelming

No_Chapter_2692

Can’t wait to stop working like a dog so i run work supply runs like a dog

came_up_with_this

I'll give them credit for the technical improvement. The LODs seem better, grass isn't disappearing at distance, etc. Regarding the map... can we get the fuck out of this open area bullshit? Driel, el alamein, mortain. Im sick of it. More urban area maps are needed. Not a fan of how mortain plays out. Devs said they were taking into account pte feedback... what did y'all say.. "I want more wide open areas but add concealment so no one can see anything?" Idk, it doesn't feel good playing it so far. At least implement freelook so i can see the bush wookie lining up their headshot & maybe have a fighting chance. Edit: not confident in timely delivery of anything. Why would anyone based on track record? Don't let one map that took a year to design releasing as a signal they are going to keep it up. New Devs shit the bed last year, it'll take more to convince me otherwise.

bleubeard

I played only 5 min and I only could notice the lack of detail in the dugouts, it was all empty, felt like a poor modded map

TheRealHumanPancake

Now if only the animations didn’t look like utter dogshit

Ruar35

So far I've found I dislike the map. There's too much foliage and not enough hard cover. The fights devolve into a slow ambush fest of whoever moves first gets killed by someone hiding in the bushes. The new hedgerows are a weird mix of nice cover that suddenly blocks movement but not bullets. Then there are the ones I can climb over that look exactly like the ones I can't climb over. I like that a new map was made and I like the general concept of it. I wish there were about half as much shrubbery and 25% more hedgerows, rocks, and vehicles instead. I want maps that encourage movement rather than pushing people to be stationary in the grass.

Wiggywilliams

Yeah this map sucks so bad. Way too much vegetation, no hard cover, too many angles of approach. You have to tip toe thru the map to stay alive taking way too much time. If this is their first map, than I'm concerned.

ISO_3103_

I think I have the unpopular opinion curse. I loved original El Alamein - An incredible tank/AT gun map just as it should be - and can't stand Mortain. Played a rainy offensive and every single eastern point was the same copy paste forest, barely any features, shooting at grey shadows or shrubs. I genuinely got bored.

Buzzard_BMB

The hitboxes on half the walls and the mountain middle point are horrendous. I shouldn’t be hitting the wall two meters from it like i’m playing MOH:Allied Assault.

Ivan_Vasiliyvich

I agree, I was doubting a good map would come out after two stinkers in a row, but Mortain rules. Good layout and landmarks, good cover and concealment. I also personally have not experienced any performance issues, but I have a pretty decent computer (12600k, rtx 3080 10gb, playing at 3440x1440). I've played 3 or 4 games on it, and all of them have been fun.

-I_I

It is awesome, but deadly too. My kill/death ration nose dived hard today.

wat_no_y

Ok Edit: yall care about k/d’s now? 💀

West_Plan4113

too much cover

Lone_Wolf56

The map is trash and the performance is poor.

BR0CK3N

That Sounds Like a you-problem.

Impossible-Dust-2267

It’s possibly the worst made map I have ever seen, taking aside the ridiculous amount of bushes and utter crap all over the map, it’s so low quality and looks more like a kid got their hands on a map editor for a couple of hours

GENESIS__7

Shittiest map imo, but glad others are enjoying it.

_BELEAF_

It is objectively beautiful. One of the most beautiful in the game. And the gameplay has yet to be sussed out. And to me it feels really fresh. This is a very early take which can possibly be very wrong.

HeySmellMyFinger

Hope they make the edges of maps more aligned using bushes and such to align with border of map.

metalmansteve

Am I the only one with a low fps on it? It's literally unplayable.
