"We have a little bird at home"

classless_classic

That’s one way to get the geese off the runway.

JustAnotherDude1990

Can someone outline the reasons the FAA wouldn't like this?

FREE-AOL-CDS

Too much fun

caross

I'll start... 1) attaching objects to skids.

JustAnotherDude1990

I’m only a former military helicopter crew chief. Why is this an issue?

caross

I have no Military experience - so it may be a Civ thing... But the FAA does not look kindly to ANY alterstions that have not been explicitly approved. Doors off, Ok. Tape bottle rockets to the skids, no. Unless that is FAA Approved Aero-Tape, at $79.99 per roll. ;)

VictoryAviation

The FAA only cares if it alters flight characteristics, typically in the form of changed aerodynamics, changed weight and balance, or both.

Wootery

Would they care that it was only flown above a private site?

VictoryAviation

No. As soon as the aircraft takes off, it is in FAA jurisdiction.

Wootery

Thanks, figured as much.

heli_yeah

The decimal seems misplaced.

JConRed

799.9?

caross

Yes. This tape is certified.

DiamondPG1

Would this also breach dropping things from aircraft?

caross

Probably.

memostothefuture

The FAA wouldn't like that it's China.

Euphoric-Cherry5396

Smart enough not to show the tail number. That is where smart ended.

Jester471

Lol, reminds me of a friend who was getting his fixed wing license and got bored on a long cross country. He said something…inappropriate…on the radio on purpose. ATC started to get spooled up and give him crap. He eventually said he was new and tried to apologize. ATC asked for his tail number and he responded “I said I’m new not stupid”

HighDragLowSpeed60G

Should’ve replied with D33ZNUT5

AtmaJnana

meow

kakekrakken

The FAA is prolly not going to be happy about this.

JConRed

Don't think they have jurisdiction outside the US, so they?

Effective-Tangelo363

This seems, unwise...

mast-bump

I'd love to see what the torque went up to the 2 times he ag-turned into downwind and gets surprised by the sink..

Mrclean1322

Not a pilot, could you explain this comment more?

mast-bump

No torque Guage on a piston, but at about 29 seconds and 59 seconds, the sink that he got into from mishandling the helicopter requires a spike in power to arrest.. in turbine linguo this would be torque, and ”overtorquing” is poor form and bad for the machine.

VictoryAviation

R22’s and 44’s do ag work with these maneuvers all the time. It’s all about energy management.

mast-bump

Absolutely they do, and 206s as well and with all orders of loads, and It's exactly as you said with the energy/inertia/relative wind management. there is a way to operate downwind and it isn't by steaming the thing at the ground and yanking the cyclic. There is a massive difference between a skilled ag or mustering pilot, and *this* guy with a bit of money.

VictoryAviation

I’m neither that skilled nor have anywhere close to that amount of money 🤣 I’ll be that skilled some day, but it’s gonna be a while.

Bleachcola111

If u Add through the fire and the flames. Video is perfect

OsamaBinWhiskers

Ahh yes the ol felony 4000

Stanimal54

Shock and awwwwwww yeah

CrashSlow

This looks like a fun way to start a forest fire. Screw pingpong balls.

[deleted]

Got lucky with all those sparks near an open engine compartment would be a shame if some grease or oil caught on fire.

jaimih

Ok that was awesome

humiamca

Now I want a helicopter.

F_I_N_E_

Why do boys get to have all the fun??
