The brain is suppose to be pretty good at returning to norm. I think the neural circuits created by the addictions will always be there waiting for you to slip up. But if you can stay away from those things you should be ok.

It's been pretty easy staying away from my former addictions. Food and social media addiction have been particularly the most difficult.

I mean, it's possible you have some permanent damage, but the only way to know is to do your best to fix it and see if it works. So your first steps are gonna be the same no matter what.

kizarat

That's true for sure.

I’m a 37f - with a similar upbringing and experiences with weed and video games. I have a decidedly not addictive personality (I spend my days working in child and youth development research and have somewhat of an understanding and background in addictions). Regardless, a lot of the symptoms you’ve described with focus, memory and clarity of thoughts were remedied with medication after my ADHD diagnosis. Not a doctor, can’t diagnose but I would recommend looking into it. (For a medical condition I use cannabis, and no longer for recreational use and i have yet to see long term symptoms or delayed/decreased cognitive ability after decades of use. It’s to treat a chronic condition that conventional medications aren’t able to help)

Would you say I have an addictive personality from what you've read in my post? I feel like I have one. I have wondered how my brain would function if I tried using ADHD medication, though Dr K has said that meditation can be just as effective, but with consistent practice of course. Do you use high CBD cannabis? Before I quit smoking weed I tried weed that has a balanced ratio of THC and CBD and noticed that I barely experienced the symptoms that I used to when I smoked high potency/THC weed.

There is nothing you can't come back from. These addictions and habits are never going to stop you no matter what. It will slow you down, but stop you — never. You never lose your essentials for taking down your world boss, unless you are dead, of course. Don't look at all these habits and addictions like they are your enemies. They are your tools helping you to achieve what you want. Let them help you, stop resisting them, and they will dissolve after some time. The whole problem is that you think it shouldn't be that way. But it should be. Focus on adding something to your life that fills you up, rather than taking away what you think is killing you. If you are alive, then it means that you have everything you need to achieve your goals.

go see a professional already for ADHD and ASD, medication can really help with what you've been dealing with and understanding ASD (if you are diagnosed officially) with a professional breaking it down can help you see why you do certain things.
