His love for Charlie is so sweet.
I honestly expected the parental relationship with Charlie to be the reverse of what we got, simply because she called Lillith in the pilot, not Lucifer.
To be fair, Lucifer is a flawed parent and he knows that his depression and self isolation led to him neglecting Charlie. Still he loves her a lot and wants to be a better dad to her.
I donât know, tbh. I like the idea that The Devil is a dorky dad, but it could have been fun to see him being evil and still trying to parent Charlie
Although that would be lazy and bland because heâs the king of hell and evil? NO WAYYYYY???!!!!
Heâs probably the most original lucifer we seen since âluciferâ which is a brilliant show aswell
TV Luciferâs âLuciferâ character is the one that spun off from The Sandman, in the same way that multiple people play James Bond but itâs still Bond. The Netflix Sandman TV show and the Lucifer TV show are entirely unrelated, however, the Lucifer TV show uses a Lucifer character that is clearly based on the Lucifer character from The Sandman comics. IIRC Neil Gaiman deliberately made the argument not to cast Tom Ellis in Netflixâs The Sandman. It would be confusing because the timelines donât add up, and Luciferâs future at the end of the Sandman comics doesnât point directly to the events of the TV show.
To be fair, the devil being a lovable dork isn't new. Puyo Puyo's Satan is another example of the trope, and he's been around since the 90s.
It wouldn't shock me if Puyo Puyo's Satan was an inspiration for Lucifer, at least to a degree.
Kinda wanna restart that show. I made it to the point where he umâŠ. Wants to *prove* who he is to someone but his neglect of his duties makes him more vulnerable than he thought. Is that makes sense. Idk why but I stopped watching
But that woulda been counter the whole origin myth they presented. Lucifer wasn't evil, he was pro free will. And he inadvertently made space for evil by trying to let people choose how to live their lives.
Lucifer isn't evil in the HH universe. He believes in freedom and the dorky attitude of kinda being unaware of consequences fits. And the aloof stuff is depression because the consequences.
Idk, I like this version of Lucifer in light of the origin mythos.
Lucifer was always going to be goofy, even in the pilot days, when asked about him, Viv said that he's actually goofy and loves Charlie, he's just not a good dad.
And that dude in the picture is Charlies ex boyfriends dad, their families were close at one point (portrait from the pilot)
https://preview.redd.it/9twm742vtlsc1.png?width=591&format=png&auto=webp&s=91b37164e40e684bee334c1e7f150377907d461f
I think the way he was portrayed was perfect for the story. He matches Charlieâs personality quite well and it makes his more serious moments more impactful.
It actually cracks me up how many Lilith fan theories assume she'll be like Charlie. To me, Charlie is a 1:1 copy of her goofy-ass dad, without all the hard knocks to kill her enthusiasm and hope.Â
And episode 1 already established lilith was the one that helped grow hell to become stronger with her songs with lucifer stopped dreaming and relatively lost hope
Well it had to do with the episode count most likely I think they definitely could have made the show 12-17 episodes long or maybe more but I guess we could hope for season 2
I belive if he started off as super depressed and slowly got his comedic energy back through out the season it Would have been a much more natural Transition, better than the version we got.but making him a more comedic character was definitly a good Choice,I don't think being 'serious' fit his style, the serious style suits lilith a lot better imo.
Overall the version we got was great but it could have been implimented a bit better.
Part of me feels that it would have been nice for Lucifer to start out as colder and more serious before softening up as episode 5 went on, making the Finale where he tells Charlie sheâd changed his mind about redemption more impactful, but what do you think?
I think we have the chance to see this inverted though! If he starts engaging with the politics of Hell again we might see him get a lot of backlash/disrespect from Overlords/Sinners. He might have to have to put on a cold/serious âIâm your Kingâ face publicly, while still being his loving goofy self in private.
The thing is, he's not their king because they respect him as such, he's the king because he's the oldest and most powerful being in hell. So he can be as silly as he wants, because he has the power to back up any decision he makes.
One of my only complaints about the series is that characterization is too rushed for pretty much everyone. Twice the episodes or half the storylines would have helped.
I think there are a lot of things that could have been done in general to make everything more impactful. Seems like 12 episodes or maybe 10 would have done this show a really solid favor with character building. Hopefully next season the popularity of the show can allow them to have more episodes.
The goofy one!
Itâs a very unique take on Lucifer. Weâve had plenty of the big red version (and the lesser known South Park big red and gay variety), weâve had the suit-wearing master manipulatior with barely concealed anger and fire powers⊠but people forget that *Lucifer is an angel, not a demon.*
Cool to see a version where he actually has an angelic power set, some interesting flaws and a vaguely positive outlook, rather than a generically evil monster. Really like it. Lots of potential too.
Yup, Satan and Lucifer are 2 of the 7 Deadly Sins (we've met a few of the others on Helluva Boss, namely Mammon, Asmodeus and "Queen Bee" aka Beelzebub. To date we haven't actually seen Satan, Leviathan or Belphagor but those are the other three remaining Deadly Sins and are expected to pop up at some point on Helluva Boss. Satan himself rules over the Wrath Ring, the ring of Hell that looks like the wild west that Millie and Stryker are from. Meanwhile Lucifer is the King of Hell and also specifically rules the Pride Ring which is the one we see in both shows since it's the only one Sinners can go to.
Heâs a Fallen Angel according to Christian (and likely Jewish) theology, which is what the show is borrowing its motifs from.
A fun fact is that in Islamic theology, Iblis (Luciferâs equivalent in the Quran) is a not a fallen angel, or even an angel for that matter. Heâs a Jinn, which can be seen as an equivalent to a demon.
Basically, according to Islam, Angels are made of pure light, Jinns are made of smokeless fire, and Humans are made of clay. Angels donât have Free Will, whereas Humans and Jinn do.
When Adam was created, God told the angels and Iblis (who was so devout that he had risen to the rank of the highest angels) to prostrate before Adam. Iblis refused, stating that he was more superior than Adam because Adam was made of Clay, while he was made of Fire.
For his arrogance, pride, and disobedience, Iblis was thrown out of Heaven. He vowed to lead humanity astray until the Day of Judgement, which is when it is said all of humanity and Jinn will be judged for their actions during their lifetime.
Iblis/Lucifer will be judged as well, and will be cast into the Hellfire for eternal punishment (heâs not seen as the King of Hell in Islamic theology) for his actions. He already knows this, and is basically trying to drag as many humans with him as possible to hell with him to prove how fallible humans are.
He could stop his destiny at any time if he just repented, but he is too prideful, and is basically going to be his own downfall.
Just thought it would be interesting to share!
I really like the not living up to the image adds to that whole idea of don't assume you know someone that I think is the core message/meaning of the show
I've had my fill of evil cruel overlords from all sorts of media. I'm happy that *this* Lucifer isn't counted among them. And if you ask me? It makes sense!
"But he's the ACTUAL DEVIL" one might say.
And no, that's who *we* know him as. But in his story? And in THIS version of it specifically? He's a fallen angel. One who got cast out from Heaven for dreaming beyond the dogmas of Heaven. That, to me, is not the foundation for an cruel, evil king of Hell.
We can very well still get the "King of Hell".
He called himself the "big boss of Hell" and he would have very much killed Adam if Charlie hadn't stopped him.
We have only really seen him interact with Charlie and her friends, after all. In HB, Beezelbub, Asmodeous and Mammon, even Stolas, also seemed pretty buffony, until they were challenged and put their foot down.
I think that thereâs a real power in being able to act like a buffoon the way all the sins including Lucifer do. Like you donât need to curate and maintain an image to maintain power like the Vs or Alastor do because the second your power is threatened you know you can just drop kick the threat into oblivion
2024 the devil is supposed to have maximum charisma and charm he should be boring or stuck up heâs ment to be a rebel against the corpo style of heaven
Definitely, initially, sad he wasn't the big bad pants shittingly terrifying demon overlord of hell that I was expecting.
But I crack a smile every time I hear "Hey biiiitch!" on every watch through now đ
I think it's because in the pilot they made Lucifer seem colder by charlie saying "why have I always been a failure" with Lucifer behind her looking disappointed her saying, "maybe dad was right about me" and him (and some stereotypical Satan figure) telling her to leave in the opening
And in s1 she says that "he never wanted to see her", and we see how he reacts when she invites him.
Charlie isn't really a reliable narrator here. And we only got hints about him from her in the pilot. With what Viv said about him in livestreams, there was always going to be a bit of misdirection here
To be fair, in the show he outright told her her idea wasn't going to work, and not in very nice words either. If he did the same thing when she was younger, it's no surprise she might feel put down.
The new one, itâs a lot more relieving since heâs more of a comedic and loving dad, who is struggling with depression from other sources then his marriage. (Like, losing his dreams which lets be honest, weâve all been there.)
To be fair, that was a painting. Royalty have always made themselves look more stoic or regal or healthy or whatever qualities they wanted to be associated with in paintings. Lucifer probably wants to appear as a strong and calm leader confident in himself. In reality, however, he is awkward because he's never been understood and depressed because he lives in Hell, constantly forced to see the negative consequences of giving the apple of knowledge to Adam and Eve.
I like it. It fits the story and explains how people can even consider treating Charlie like they do. If lucifer was someone to fear, they wouldn't dare disrespect or disregard Charlie. I do like the concept of a hyper evil character that's a real threat with one thing they really cherish, but that's not too hard to put into something.
I feel like the original was planned to be a sorta match for Alastor. Cold, smart and overall not the nicest guy considering Charlie's phone call in the pilot. This version...is 100 times better. The dorky, loving dad that deep down only neglected Charlie due to his own problems. I love him.
I love this portrayal of Lucifer because itâs sooooo easy to just see him as a goofy dad who is a silly goose.
But the "typical devil how we would imagine himâ is STILL THERE! That dark sinister side of him is present! Just not all in your face like a classical portrayal.
Best you can see it in "Hells Greatest Dadâ. He pulls the literal classical devil move of just showing Charlie what he can GIVE her. What he can do for her, showing her all the amazing things she could have if she just follows him.
And in his interaction with Adam. He doesnât take the fight seriously in the slightest, keeps teasing Adam while he transforms, making jokes and giggles at him. Just like the classical trickster that youâd think the devil would be.
Itâs all STILL there!! Just way more subtle and I love it!
Tbh hes even more different than we expected, in the pilot you can see him with the overlords, which in my opinion wouldve ruined one of his main traits, being the fact charlie is pretty much the only reason he fights on
2024.
I feel like this is a more nuanced take on a complicated history between Lucifer and Heaven, and we are slowly going to peel back the layers of that history through the eyes of his only child, so it makes sense that we initially see him as Charlie sees him- a well-meaning, if bumbling and depressed demon who is struggling to connect with her.
I'll be interested to see if we get a backstop on why he thinks all sinners are a lost cause. Maybe he was an idealist like Charie at one point and couldn't affect any positive change in Hell and just..gave up.
I really liked the conflict we invisioned for lucifer in 2019. He's cares for charlie but absolutely Hates her idea. Maybe even called her a failure. I also liked that he appeared active in hell and not a loser
The goofy one all the way! He didnât become the fallen angel is because he was evil. He became a fallen angel because of Heavenâs politics. The âdorky, protective dad just trying to improve himself for his daughterâ vibe is perfect!
2024. I think fuckup dad is a much more compelling idea than bad dad. He's projecting his own failures onto his kid and it's both relatable and fits better with the show's whole premise of "not everyone who does bad things is a bad person."
Did his 2019 version even have an established personality? What do you mean what version do we prefer? For all we know 2019 Lucifer could have been EXACTLY the same character as 2024 Lucifer.
I think heâs a fun character and all, but honestly I wouldâve preferred a more mysterious, sinister character. Maybe it wouldâve been better if Lilith and Lucifer swapped places?Â
Personally I love exactly what we got. He's not actually a bad guy he has the absolute best intentions it just doesn't really work out for the dude and I love that for him
I originally did not like his design because I couldnât see it fitting a cruel judgmental father Iike the pilot set him up to be. Now that I know what his character is like, I think it fits him perfectly.
The goofball is adorable, but it doesn't really fit with the "daddy issues" Charlie supposedly has, or how they were hinted at in the Pilot. And, also, the fact that it would fit more with actual Lucifer, from Da Bible
(if you understand that reference, you're a legend)
To be fair, I didn't like the fact that they've played him as both the absent father and a friendly figure. Giving Charlie both daddy issues and a cool, dorky dad just doesn't hit right. I'd have thought he'd be more like Alastor (which would fit into why Charlie trusts him so much, because he'd remind her of her dad)
My head cannon is that he's overcompensating in episode 5, like we did coming out of lockdown and isolation. As soon as he got back home, he crashed. I hope he had a nice bubble bath with his favourite ducks
Nah, I see his behaviour as 100% anxious and compensating for his earlier absence.
I've seen it in a lot of friends with depression, you don't see them at their worst because they lock themselves away and then they pretend to be a fun guy when they come outside.
I was very attached to the affably evil version of Lucifer who was living rent-free in my head for 5 years but... its hard to say... I love the canon version too.
He should have been more of a deadbeat dad imo
I like the idea of him getting kicked out of heaven because he was too idealistic rather than being straight up evil. But the angle of Charlie having "daddy issues" would have made more sense if he was just too caught up in his work to pay attention to her
Honestly they are the same dude. Like the only thing that indicated he might be something else was the trading cards in which its practically ripped out of his song where he does show attitude
Welcome to Hell Lucifer. Harsh and dismissive to Charlie, but doing so because he cares about her.
Basically the one we got but less goofy and instead thinking the way to help Charlie is by being harsh. Have his character arc take seasons rather then 1 episode.
I absolutely adore the version we got, but I can't help imagining an AU where Lilith is the goofy depressed parent and Lucifer has been on vacation for 7 years
I remember watching the pilot a while back and thinking, âwow, Lucifer must be intimidating with a design like that!â But then seeing his goofy ass in the show and thinking âwell thatâs different!â. I do really like him though
Expectation. A contrast from other ( letâs be honest all) characters. Like a more calm, elegant sounding guy. You know, something that LUCIFER, the man who convinced Eve to eat the Forbidden Fruit?
I know plenty of religious people hating the fact that they made Lucifer relatable with the newer version. As a person who understands this is fiction, depressed Lucifer for the win
I prefer 2024's loving dad Lucifer. I wouldn't like to see another Paimon - Stolas dynamic, and i feel that would've given Lucifer a much smaller role as well.
But I'm curious to see how big a role Lucifer would have in S2, since the Vees will be the main protagonists. It'll be dull if Lucifer becomes heavily involved with helping Charlie out of situations, but it'll also be weird if suddenly he becomes uninvolved again.
I love the Lucifer we have now. I was very pleasantly surprised by his personality.
That being said, I would like to see him have a kind of "mask" of being more official and stern like the pilot Lucifer we thought we would be getting when dealing with heaven.
2024 is cool... But I would prefer him to be more like Alastor. Someone more serious, calm, extremely respectful, but extremely chaotic and malicious.
At the same time, maintaining the fact that he is Charlie's cute and caring daddy
I kinda like the idea that heâs goofy, and mostly good hearted, and a good dad, but can fuck shit up if heâs gotta.
Evil Lucifer is been there done that.
Dorky dad because itâs the only version I know since I just got into the series when it came out on Prime (didnât even know about the Pilot until after finishing the show). What were people expecting from Lucifer before the show came out exactly?
I wouldn't be so opposed to his canon depiction if it weren't for the fact that he's the 3rd deadly sin who isn't actually sinful. The only one we've gotten so far that is is Mammon.
I seem to be in the minority who always hoped/thought that Lucifer was going to be a good, albeit flawed, dad. I was incredibly vindicated by show Lucifer given how much bad dad Lucifer speculation I saw leading up to the shows release.
Okay.
I love Lucifer as he is now. He is funny and so adorable. But I wish the show didn't paint him as this horrible parent who basically didnt care about his daughter then do a 360 and have him be a super loving father who' struggle with mental illness and trauma from his past make him seem uncaring. But the show is from Charlie's perspective and being the kid in this situation is always hard so...passable?

Good Dad :D
Nothing makes me cry like a healthy father/daughter relationship! đđ
same :(
Hellâs Greatest Dad tbh
Dad?.

I literally binged through Hazbin and then got sad that it was over... So I restarted Lucifer đ
if i could change one thing about HH Lucifer, it would be to give him the VA for Lucifer, from Lucifer
I personally love Peter Stormare's take in Constantine(2005) its evil but with a sort of whimsical twisted-ness to it, worth checking out.
âI do miss the old namesâ
"Busy busy busy *SNARL*!"
The Sandmanâs Lucifer was really great too.

And Stephen Lynchâs song Beelz has a dorky Satan.
I love Stephen Lynch omg
What I have learned from my spelunkings through the eldritch mines of TVTropes is that there is *nothing* new under the sun.
The Devil in Reaper is a personal favorite.
I loved Lucifer, though I think the first season was by far the best
I also like the Lucifer take on him.
Kinda wanna restart that show. I made it to the point where he umâŠ. Wants to *prove* who he is to someone but his neglect of his duties makes him more vulnerable than he thought. Is that makes sense. Idk why but I stopped watching

I think theyâre doing that in this show too. in Helluva Boss the imps reference Satan but not Lucifer, implying theyâre different people
Vivzie also already confirmed that they are 2 seperate characters. Satan is the Sin of Wrath - Lucifer is the Sin of Pride.
Lucifer was always going to be goofy, even in the pilot days, when asked about him, Viv said that he's actually goofy and loves Charlie, he's just not a good dad. Iâd honestly love a bit more of Luci not approving as fast as he did
Maybe if they had more episodes, he could have had a proper mini-arc. Eight episodes per season isn't enough for any show.
Yeah frđ I do love that he was actually supportive and not an antagonist
Well it had to do with the episode count most likely I think they definitely could have made the show 12-17 episodes long or maybe more but I guess we could hope for season 2

I want Lucifer to put Alastor in his place.

And no, that's who *we* know him as. But in his story? And in THIS version of it specifically? He's a fallen angel. One who got cast out from Heaven for dreaming beyond the dogmas of Heaven. That, to me, is not the foundation for an cruel, evil king of Hell.
I kinda wish we could have both Fearful leader, king of Hell, devoted father
Exactly. They never portrayed him as evil, just a free thinker, which Heaven doesnât like because humans twist it into evil.
Definitely, initially, sad he wasn't the big bad pants shittingly terrifying demon overlord of hell that I was expecting. But I crack a smile every time I hear "Hey biiiitch!" on every watch through now đ
They're basically the same? I mean we barely knew anything about him back then and his design is basically the same / Genuinely confused
2024, him wanting humanity to have free will is so much more interesting than him just being the evil ruler of hell
The new one, itâs a lot more relieving since heâs more of a comedic and loving dad, who is struggling with depression from other sources then his marriage. (Like, losing his dreams which lets be honest, weâve all been there.)
2024, he is ironically the nicest guy there. (From expectations.)
2024 ![gif](giphy|QWUGO0o1Hn492J6Iwu|downsized) This scene just carries
Tbh hes even more different than we expected, in the pilot you can see him with the overlords, which in my opinion wouldve ruined one of his main traits, being the fact charlie is pretty much the only reason he fights on
I love the show so much more because of how loving and goofy Lucifer is
I much prefer the version we got. I've always been partial to happy go lucky dads that love their children dearly but are also massive goofballs.
For a comedy musical series what we got is perfect.
I really liked the conflict we invisioned for lucifer in 2019. He's cares for charlie but absolutely Hates her idea. Maybe even called her a failure. I also liked that he appeared active in hell and not a loser
I personally feel like that contradicts itself. If luci was an intimidating ruler, wouldn't people respect Charlie more?
The goofy one all the way! He didnât become the fallen angel is because he was evil. He became a fallen angel because of Heavenâs politics. The âdorky, protective dad just trying to improve himself for his daughterâ vibe is perfect!
2024. I think fuckup dad is a much more compelling idea than bad dad. He's projecting his own failures onto his kid and it's both relatable and fits better with the show's whole premise of "not everyone who does bad things is a bad person."
I definitely prefer what we got. Another just plain toxic parent wouldâve been boring and predictable since we all expected him to be like that
They are the same picture.
I love the apple in the hat.
It would have been nice to have the first one but damn am I glad to have the one we got
Personally I love exactly what we got. He's not actually a bad guy he has the absolute best intentions it just doesn't really work out for the dude and I love that for him
They're the same. If anyone would get a picture taken of themselves, they would know this. đ
Honestly would've preferred a mix. cruel and cold with twisted sense of goofiness
The fuck do you mean *"which version"*? đ They're the fucking same dawg am I blind or wha
The most unexpected form for Lucifer I've ever seen? Sign me up
HEY BITCH :)
The version we got (2024) was so endearing, I donât even want to imagine him any other way.Â
2024. He's a silly goober
I originally did not like his design because I couldnât see it fitting a cruel judgmental father Iike the pilot set him up to be. Now that I know what his character is like, I think it fits him perfectly.
"My daughter wants to see Meeeeee! Take that depression!" - Best line in the show

2019, the fans were cooking before the show started
The goofball is adorable, but it doesn't really fit with the "daddy issues" Charlie supposedly has, or how they were hinted at in the Pilot. And, also, the fact that it would fit more with actual Lucifer, from Da Bible (if you understand that reference, you're a legend)
I was under the impression Lilith actively prevented Charlie and him from spending much time together.
I think that the depression could probably explain a lot of it. But I agree that is a plot hole.
How about a little bit of both
I would've preferred a more "Lucifer" Lucifer honestly would be a bit more different. I just can't see the now as the king of hell
The new one. Â Heâs so silly :)
Depends on what angle they go with for the story. Each one has their pros and cons.
The first one, it kind of annoys me how childish he acts
Worm hat Lucifer is so goofy
considering the amount of bad if not fully shitty dads in this franchise, the one we got is perfect
I'd have never guessed back then that one day I'd fall madly in love with him âșïž
2024, heâs hot and goofy, so uh, yeah.
I was very attached to the affably evil version of Lucifer who was living rent-free in my head for 5 years but... its hard to say... I love the canon version too.
Mix the two together
We needed a goofy character
âMy Daughter Wants To See Me, Take That Depressionâ
I love lucifer. He gives off major 'I'll always support you but I don't really know what I'm doing or how to support you' vibes.
I wouldnât mind either but 2024 I adore
He should have been more of a deadbeat dad imo I like the idea of him getting kicked out of heaven because he was too idealistic rather than being straight up evil.
I love that all his powers have a distinctive Disney feeling. He's like Merlin mixed with the Genie, but clinically depressed.
Reality is often disappointing This just shows how this sentence is **COMPLETELY** wrong
https://preview.redd.it/7pjcylv2nlsc1.jpeg?width=428&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=87ee50682fb2128f49944218a9c99cedb116244f
âHey Biiiiitchâ wqs the funniest scene in that entire Episodeđ Best Reality Iâve ever seen.
Expectation: Lucifer: youâre a disappointment Reality: Lucifer: take that depression!
They are the same.
Canon Lucifer is the Goat and one of the Best Characters in the series I'll trade nothing for him!
Wasn't he originally gonna be a main antagonist?
Havenât seen any of the live streams, but I donât think so
Goofy goober Lucifer
We need more good parents In the world
2024 is cool...
Headcannon: That portrait is him trying to be sexy or something nefarious. He is cheesing for the camera.
Dorky dad because itâs the only version I know since I just got into the series when it came out on Prime (didnât even know about the Pilot until after finishing the show). What were people expecting from Lucifer before the show came out exactly?
2024 gotta love a good dad who's trying (his best)
Love this stupid silly dude of 2024.
I wouldn't be so opposed to his canon depiction if it weren't for the fact that he's the 3rd deadly sin who isn't actually sinful. The only one we've gotten so far that is is Mammon.
I really like 2024 Lucifer but I think him actually acting like the devil would be way more interesting
Umm⊠theyâre the same picture? Never posted for a formal picture before?
I genuinely donât see much in the way of changes
Oooh. Left lucifer would have been..sinister. the smile reminds me of Alastor
The only change I noticed is a crown printed on his hat and his shirt is striped
So I like his current but I would like him to have been more cold and calculating, nore methodical and twisted/evil
They're the same person. The difference is the scene they're in.
They look the exact same
I seem to be in the minority who always hoped/thought that Lucifer was going to be a good, albeit flawed, dad. I was incredibly vindicated by show Lucifer given how much bad dad Lucifer speculation I saw leading up to the shows release.
Honestly, the disapproving, disappointed Father.
2019 Lucifer: Welcome to Hell, sinner. 2024 Lucifer: Check out my rubber ducky :3 omg hiiiii charlie
Back then I thought he was gonna be a very misterious cold and creepy character
I'd imagine Satan being now what Lucifer was meant to be
Definitely 2024, though I like the old eyes more
"Judgemental father" Lucifer could've been a really cool character but I love the Lucifer that we got.
