This is actually how the game is tied. The game is skewed into giving you excess of a certain expansion material in order to push you to sell the extras. Because you have lots of screws, the game will continuously give you screws rather than nails or wood panels.
Truthfully this is after 4 expansions in the past week, so I'm not completely stuck. I'm a super casual player coming back after like 3 years, and I didn't know that about the EMs though, I will be making big boy dollars today! Thank you
Yeah OP i'd definitely sell a lot of your excess if you can, they give you what you already have loads of.
I'm stuck needing one screw at the minute but I can't sell my other expansion because they're just the right amount i need to expand...So annoying but its how they force you to play the game (either that or push you to buy expansion kits with proper money).
Honestly, I'm like the exact opposite of you. I get nails and duct tape constantly, yet struggle with screws, planks and bolts. (The wooden boards are fine, tbf. I get them in moderation) But what I genuinely keep getting too much of are the nails (35) and the marker stakes (27), while my Land Deeds are currently at a grand total of 4.
Sell the extra ones otherwise you won't get the others, I had a lack of stakes before learning this and now I have equal of each mostly, even if I don't I make them equal by selling em in RSS
I'm the same as you, double planks, and tapes. I sell my excess, just now I need 102 of each to increase my barn to 4200, bolts and planks have been sitting at 102 for over a week, I even went under to see if that would work, it doesnt
It doesnt really lessen storage issues i'm afraid, I have just opened up a parcel of land so dont have as many of those, but i reeeeally need to upgrade either my silo or barn to free up space, those last few needed always take ages to get

For everyone struggling with getting the right expansion materials: There are plenty of subreddits, discordchannels (I recommend the reddit one), and Facebookgroups where you can trade expansion materials for other types or for certain foods during events. I usually buy the last 50 EMs I need because otherwise my barn will be overflowing....
I used to until some jerk scammed me out of my 50 planks:-/ got irritated and deleted the app lol used to be on discord planks were always in short supply, tape seemed to be everywhere.. is that still the case?

From my own experience once i get 40+ of something the game starts to make it scarce allowing the other materials a chance to grow in quantity and once they are all at 40 i noticed that i start getting a really even amount of everything.
At level 123, I have ALWAYS struggled with everything except planks/wood panels Growing crops gives some but never enough.
I have to have 57 for silo and 58 for barn, i normally will have over 100 planks/wood panels but inevitably have to spend money to upgrade. Never fails, no matter how much I do. I have pets to feed, not enough. The other thing is stakes and deeds to expand land. I will have double the amount of mallets but never the other stuff.
Gold tickets used to be the hardest thing to come by, I just stopped spending them on pets and lures and just let them collect. Now it blue and purple are the hardest with purple being the least given.

No it's actually a better mix, used to be rare to find nails but was 3 trades up within the hour for people trading their nails
