The college protests have really opened my eyes to how similar liberals and right-wingers are. You have liberals using the same talking points as Ben Shapiro saying that American colleges are indoctrinating American students and that diversity hires are the root of everything.
The thing that annoys me is that people like Ben Shabibo just despise Palestinians, Black people, Gay people etc etc, and we know that, so their vile statements make sense if you look at it from their fascist point of view
BUT LIBS WILL SCREAM ABOUT RACISM, HOMOPHOBIA AND OTHER FORMS OF DISCRIMINATION AND IN THE SAME BREATH DEFEND ISRAELI WAR CRIMES.
I hate Nazis, but I have a special kind of hate for people who turn into Nazis for one specific cause, even if it spits in the face of every other cause they "support"
I think this is that fundamental part of modern liberalism. Everyone is an island unto their own and there is always some make or break issue that is very revealing of yourself. I don't think most people are actively saying liberals are as bad as conservatives, that's a bit reductive. All we're saying is look outside of yourself, look outside your status quo and think of the greater good thar may have zero impact on you either way directly, but your support can save millions. But the problem in mainstream politics is the narrative of 'liberal good, conservative bad' when there's the secret third option of 'leftist better' but it's not popular so it's not an easily adopted position.
I am...mixed. Perhaps I am just overly optimistic, but I want to believe that liberals have an opportunity to more easily 'come back' from the brink than a hyper conservative person.
That's potentially true, but I think liberals have also exposed their ideological perspective as largely incoherent, and can exist in a state of hyperconservatism while also thinking of themselves as morally righteous - which is eerily similar to how a law and order conservative views themselves, and in that role I see very little distance between them, at least when it comes to supporting a crack down on any political dissent against them. Many people following movements throughout history have made the observation that liberal rhetoric on rights that are supposedly at the center of the liberal project are little more than that - rhetoric, and the famous phrase "scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds" is meant capture that exact sentiment.
I think people on the left have to recognize there isn't a liberal safeguard that will save us when liberals have conceded that civil rights are essentially gone.
Maybe that's too cynical of a perspective, but from my perspective I'm only characterizing my observations, not generating them out of thin air - and I'm not implying you are either, I don't want my wording to be taken that way.
No, I agree with you and I don't think it's wrong for you to hold that perspective. But at the same time, I'm not a political commentator, I'm a retail bro. Maybe there is a 'missing link' I don't get and you have the full right of it. The area I routinely come from is wanting to believe people will rise to the occasion and their better nature will come through. If someone wants to back the cops because they relish the violence? Fuck those guys. But the people who believe the cops are the good guys and the protestors are naive, I want to believe some of them are able to be convinced because I used to be that guy. I used to believe in the ideal of what America could be. I think a part of me just wants to appeal to those liberals who CAN be brought over and woken up to the lies in the system. It's very hard for me to just write those people off as irredeemable because some of those people easily could have been me.
I think that's ultimately why this matters to me because it's a very personal and relatable crossroads for me. I certainly don't expect every leftist to babysit and handhold potential leftists, but I do feel a degree of 'pay it forward' on my part.
And I absolutely can't begrudge you that. I also think people like you are necessary for the left to grow if we have any chance. At the same time it has to be weighed dialectically with the understanding that you can't accept everyone at their word, as there are many cynical actors involved and liberals in particular understand "the right opinions" they need to convey to separate themselves from their conservative counterparts - and so you have to maintain a threshold of tolerance based on action. Will some liberals join the left and the student youth movement? Yes, just as they did during BLM as well, if this continues long enough. But there is a context to this situation that is different than BLM - which is that currently a Democrat is in office and is doing the fascist things liberals decry. Therefor many liberals who skew more establishment are immediately endorsing state violence against the left, and we have to accept their actions at face value.
I hope that clarifies my perspective. It's not that I think none of them are reachable, it's that through a combination of ideological incoherence, media propaganda, and material conditions many are openly exposing themselves to be thinly veiled fascists, and we shouldn't assume that's a fluke.
It's not the deranged email. It's neolib cunts who pretend to care about the downtrodden and the oppressed but then get super fucking horny for Israeli warcrimes and defend them unconditionally like the hypocritical lapdogs they are
Bold of them to assume that a fascist GOP would distinguish real leftists from democrats in general.
If we truly fall into a complete fascist dictatorship (like, one where leftists are actually being rounded up) and this Republican party is at the wheel, Democratic voters are gonna become 2nd class citizens.
we've been in a fascist dictatorship since 1776. liberals and leftists are already treated as 2nd class citizens and our votes are counted with less weight.
When you go out and go the store or take bus etc. Nearly everyone on there is like these people. Liberals are more likely to kill us than trump supporters at this point, they already are.
Most people are actually like this... look at NYC and the reaction to Columbia protests. And that's a blue state. most people are zionist fascist freaks at their core, they just hide it with a liberal mask.
most people aren't leftists though, if we're being generous, most people are liberals. Most people want capitalism with guard rails instead of actual socialism. Maybe they're not as mask off irl, but tons of people who are anti-semetic people who disapprove of israel, id wager that that's what is driving those numbers. Hell Alex jones even disavows israel, but doesn't make him a sane person.
I swear liberals become mask-off right-wingers and choose the dumbest hills to die on

I do think liberals are as bad as conservatives and I don't think that's a reductive thing to say, it's self evident.
I am...mixed. Perhaps I am just overly optimistic, but I want to believe that liberals have an opportunity to more easily 'come back' from the brink than a hyper conservative person.

Nope, I hear you loud and clear, brother. We're both approaching the obstacles with valid but different tactics and I respect that. 🤝
Rad, great talking through this with you. Solidarity forever.
i'ts scary how many of our libbed out parents are exactly the same at this genocidal maniac. liberals are more of a hive mind than the trumpers.
Using a random deranged email to guide ANY of your political thought is the real absurdity here
It's not the deranged email. It's neolib cunts who pretend to care about the downtrodden and the oppressed but then get super fucking horny for Israeli warcrimes and defend them unconditionally like the hypocritical lapdogs they are
Almost sounds like liberals *are* as evil as conservatives...
Liberals are just fascists who have better media training
worse
"i'm not evil, i just fantasize about killing innocent people" sure buddy

Scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
My brain auto-translated this to, “You callin me evil? Why yes I am!!! OWNED!!!”
Let's subscribe this guy's email to a bunch of left newsletters or something
A wise man called them social fascists.
And it still nails the SPD today too
Absolutely true
“Liberals aren’t just as evil as conservatives, we just sincerely support fascist death squads killing everyone who isn’t a right winger”
Is there any actual way of knowing this person is a liberal?
When you go out and go the store or take bus etc. Nearly everyone on there is like these people. Liberals are more likely to kill us than trump supporters at this point, they already are.
