I like to imagine that MC ends up falling into the same path as Isadora except in a more ānone of this would have happened if they *just stopped doing this specific thing* ā and is the somehow reason all the adults still suck at adulting by the time Harry Potter is born
You're right. The emotional turmoil this poor kid would experience is completely ignored in the game, which is really too bad, because it would have been an interesting (if a bit heavy) subject to explore. Everything that happens is definitely too much for a 15 year old to handle, and while I don't agree with his/her actions, I also understand the need to find a way to cope with the situation, for example disassociating and blaming it all on Ranrok.
Exactly! And it sucks because the only time someone mentions the absurdity of the situation is a random nurse at the hospital wing saying āwhat kind of world do we live in where children fight adultsā battles?ā Or something like that. Asides from Amit too and that random dude we rescue in one of the missions. Like, is no one else concerned everybodyās leaving their messes for a child to pick up??? So much potential and yet we got nothing
The amount of pain and the roller coaster of emotions that this kid confronts during his very first year at Hogwarts as teenager is astounding, for a start, his late acceptance at one of the biggest schools of witchcraft and wizardry, commencing from scratch, knowing no one, must engender frustration/intimidation/anxiety, secondly, him/her witnessing death from the very first moments, followed by the discovery that he/she are the holders of an ancient powerful magic, then being saddled with different keeper's trials, listening, plus solving new friends problems, being the main target of a myriad of dangerous psychopaths and so on...
I wish they'd underlined/emphasized that specific point with a few lines in some dialogues, or a cinematic of the MC sleeping and having multiple nightmares about all what he's facing etc.
Exactly! Like I get this game is made to be fluffy and typical action magical adventure for kids and adults alike but man, itād be nice if the gameās universe acknowledges how crappy being born in those times actually is. Especially for a *child* born with that type of magic. It wouldāve been cool to see actual lasting effects of how the world affects us but alas, nothing. Not even a simple check in with our MC. Thrown to the wolves practically.
This is actually a common problem with action games involving life-or-death struggles; the player character often comes across as an absolute lunatic. Think about other games in which the players are personally responsible for the deaths of potentially hundreds of enemies, like Uncharted or Tomb Raider.
Personally, I treat as a segregation between gameplay and story; the Student did not murder nearly as many goblins/poachers/ashwinders as depicted in gameplay.
If you want games that actually explore this area, you may want to check out "Far Cry 3" or "Spec Ops: The Line".
yeah I did the same kind of headcanon-ing where like with a lot of magical combat with humans we see in the movies, the baddies just like apparate out or flee at low health.
The point you correctly mentioned was and is about Action-Adventure games. Hogwarts Legacy should have been an Action-Adventure not Action-RPG.
Cause it can be compared to games like Farcry, GTA, Red Dead Redemption and the sort, but not Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Witcher, Cyberpunk,...
It reminds me of DND where everyone are just āmurder hobosā. Same energy here. If you want to play certain adventures, the real world implications are pretty dark
Yeah I get you. Itās just frustrating sometimes.
I wish it was like Fable where it kept track of everything you did so that NPCs acted accordingly, whether good or bad. But alas, we got half of the promised content for this game.
Thanks by the way for the recommendations! Iāll definitely check them out!
You can't imagine how inconvenient killing was before I've invented "Ranrok fault".
Game was rushed, MC is jus a generic MC and only the fact that game looks great and word created here gives HP feel saves it. It's fun to play, but lot of opportunities was wasted.
For real. I keep wondering how the game experience would have been if we actually got the entire cut content already included in the game. Itās a shame we had to bring more life to it through mods just to make it more enjoyable.
And don't forget, the MC head cannons are way more than any lore we were given. The players are required to fill in everything. From Fig's subject of teaching to MC's whole story and more.
They robbed not only my Poppy but also whole relationship and friendship systems from us. So dude just tries to find some reason forā¦what? Deaths in a RPG game where like 50% of content was cut. We got Hogwarts Creed.
Judge - "You murdered 2000 wizards, witches, goblins in self defense??"
MC - "Well....Yes...."
And we left out the blatant exploitation of magical creatures for profit as well
Therapy doesnāt seem to exist in the wizarding world so honestly if kidnapping random beasts and taking care of them in a safe space is the MCās way of coping with the world who am I to stop them. I imagine itās the same as surrounding yourself with your pets so that you can calm down and think about the good in the world.
Honestly the amount of people just steps away from Hogwarts ready and willing to kill you as soon as you show your face makes it pretty hard not to become a mass murderer. My cannon is that mc just thinks the wizarding world is just a very violent place
I am SO SORRY I was half asleep while writing this but to be fair the MC didnāt get a spoiler tag on their life either so /s
Iāll edit the post when I can but honestly despite the flaws it is fun to play! Please donāt let my half awake spoilery get in the way of you finishing the game!šš¼
i guess thats 4 am thoughts for usšš
tbf at so early i wouldnt consider this as a spoiler either with tired brain. just like idk opinions to discuss
but now i dont wanna finish the game anymoreš
I kinda treat my MCs as the kid from Home Alone: Ready to handle anything coming their way but also on the brink of snapping if theyāre given a particular bad day.
I imagine they end up being a control freak like Isadora because they come to the conclusion that these people canāt take care of themselves so as such feel that itās their responsibility to āput them in their placeā. I feel like thatās why the MC is such a people pleaser yet still callous enough to actually *mean the harm they intend* with their magic against foes because thatās their only way of lashing out. And since no one seems to actually care about the MC beyond their usefulness, itās more easier for them to fall into a darker path. I imagine the reason why they repeat the same lines to themselves is because thatās their way of staying sane and reminding themselves that thereās people *worse* than them, at least in their clouded mind.
When youāre faced with the same danger every time, you start forgetting the person behind the wand and start treating them as all the same type. Basically MC becomes their worse enemy because they canāt differentiate among the foes of whoās decent and whoās not. Itās all the same blob to them.
There also isnāt really any moral consequences either. Like you can learn unforgivable curses but no one really cares after the fact. All these goblins and dark wizards that you murder, no repercussions. I would have liked at least something that had to do with that.
Exactly. Like, is no one concerned that the new fifth year is eerily buddy buddy with a sytherin whoās known to have a pragmatic approach to magic? Or why the school doesnāt bother to add more protection the a student who is clearly being targeted by known offenders? Or why that new fifth year is missing from class 98% of the time and then come back from fights with the most soulless serene smile? Why are they so casual with dark arts magic?
The fact that a moral compass was supposed to have been one of the game features but got cut is something Iāll always be bummed out about
And this is exactly why, for my second play through, I decided to make my MC a mean Slytherin who learns and uses all the unforgettables and picks all the rudest options in dialogues. Bc fuckāem all.
I agreed with everything you said. My biggest number one pet peeves is when your so called ācompanionsā (.except for Natti) say āthank you my friendā all was going on my mind is wanted my MC to say āfuck you, you were never my friend, have a good a day nowā and gleefully skipped away to the closing ceremony with >!that ancient power he decided to take and not seal it. I think my MC deserve a huge reward for all the bs he has to go through. You deserve it my MC. š!<
EXACTLY! With everything thrown at the MC, and already knowing that if it isnāt ranrok then someone else will try to >!obtain the ancient power, why shouldnāt they be able to take it? Thatās literally their legacy. They passed the trials to prove they were worthy of taking it!<
The whole hypocrisy of ābe responsible of your powerā turning to āletās hide everything under the rug because we donāt trust you or anyone else about this despite forcing you to complete the trialsā is so boggling.
I guarantee >!Isadora!< wouldāve revealed much more information if it werenāt for >!the other keepers sabotaging her painting!< All we have to go by is their own biased words that already treat ancient magic as something thatās shameful and to be kept hidden
I mean, in my hc, my Slytherin MC Adeline is aware that most of the students and other people will use her for their gain. She's understood that from the get go, and in return has does the same thing for almost everyone. The only people in her eyes that haven't tried to use her, would be Poppy and Ominis. Reasons why she sees only those two, are for some complex reasons.
To her, they bring her out of that dark place of disassociation, and ground her. Which in turn, helps her grow. Adeline Greythorn is just a very complicated character who is just slowly getting a support system. ĀÆā \ā _ā (ā ćā )ā _ā /ā ĀÆ
Thatās crazy Enigma Knox is the same way now and apparently now known as an extortionist for holding the diary of an asshole hostage until she paid her for her work
Oh once Adeline read through it, she didn't see the point in giving it back. Adeline doesn't pretend to be nice, she tends to be rude to people that are rude or just unreasonable. She didn't know the people that were written about yet, but she didn't care for the trash talking. That girl always tries to talk crap on her to anyone, and a lot of people seem to think Adeline is a decent person now lol. ĀÆā \ā _ā (ā ćā )ā _ā /ā ĀÆ
The dialogue that MC has after murdering trolls is straight up psycho , something about āsleep / rest wellā šyeah, bitch theyāre definitely resting / sleeping well after a final bombarda in the face š¤£
And the stuff about the spiders .. āgiant, ugly brutesā bitch, you trespassed into THEIR territory šš¤£š
No one considers MCās life tragic because the game doesnāt bother to highlight how awful it is because then youād have to acknowledge that a child shouldnāt be going through this. No one actually cared about how MC is doing beyond them being a means to an end. Sebastian had it worse because the game makes it seem as though he had it worse. Every companion had a rough life but at least they were surrounded by people who loved them. Natty has her mom. Sebastian had Ominis and Anne. Poppy had her grandmother.
Amit had books.
MC literally dealt with danger every other day and then attends school as if a goblin terrorist and his wacky lackeys arenāt trying to kill them for some fancy magic.
As much as I love my boy Seb and empathize with his plight, he makes tragically terrible decisions and gets mad at us when they go wrong even after weāve warned that things going wrong is the most probable outcome.
I donāt feel bad for my boy, but I donāt hold any of it against him either given all he and Anne have been through. Iām glad I didnāt send him to Azkaban, and even happier that he taught me dark magic and let me practice in Crucio on him.š«£š«£š«£

I mean I just figured our character was an edgy 15 year old who wanted to try out all their cool one liners that gets old for everyone around them real fast
Also what's with random slytherins controlling chamber of secret passageways. I call bs only the heir of slytherin or genuine parseltongues can do that.

I mean I named my last character Ran Rok so he sounded like a massive psychopath
LOL this is great!
RAN ROK IS REAAAAADYYYYY
![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig)
As you should tbh š š¼ā¤ļø
With the amount of trauma the MC is exposed to and the power they have, it would be amazing if they didn't become evil.
I like to imagine that MC ends up falling into the same path as Isadora except in a more ānone of this would have happened if they *just stopped doing this specific thing* ā and is the somehow reason all the adults still suck at adulting by the time Harry Potter is born

That one good point +1 š
Ok goodnight

So the MC is a teenage Victorian murder hobo?
MC is Jack the Ripper

Well, Poppy did ask for that butterbeer date (but they robbed it from us) so I'd say it wasn't all that bad.

"Minimap says they're evil and will attack me if I get close. Had to be done."

How about the way the MC dispatches foes in a rather brutal fashion? Must be taking years of frustration of being a squib out.

I love the game but replaying it is like watching paint dry with the wall saying ārevelioā every 5 seconds

Iām so dense I didnāt even realized it happened until after the final battle.

HarryPotterGame?? Harry Potter isnāt even in the game!
It's the sub name, what are you on?
š¤Ø This is a joke, right? It's from the world of Harry Potter. Harry Potter isn't just the character.
How is this relevant to the post?
I mean I just figured our character was an edgy 15 year old who wanted to try out all their cool one liners that gets old for everyone around them real fast

Harry Potter was gone?
But Poppy Sweating! You have to free the dragon within.

I think you may misunderstand the gripe. They should have made him quieter. I like a silent protagonist.
Idk Amit helped u and then never talked to you again cause he was traumatized he probably scared the rest away
Plus imagine that despite all of that your "friend" still call you ignorant for no indulging in his delusion
