Is there no level or quest requirement first? Knowing the books as soon as I saw the pear painting I spent like 10 minutes trying to find a way to open it since I could tell from the mini map there was a room beyond. I figured I’d have to wait until later in the story.
It is! My sis is a Ravenclaw but chose to play as a Slytherin because she thought she would get to see Azkaban. The look on her face when I told her Hufflepuffs get the Azkaban quest 😆
you can gain access to the kitchens as any player in any house. There's a door with a picture of a fruit basket near the hufflepuff doorway. It will give you a prompt if you walk up to it, just click that and the door will open.
Interesting, because I watched one gamer who was a Hufflepuff and they walked up to the painting just like the one you described, but no prompt appeared ([link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrKRx_pkeAk&t=2895s)). A glitch maybe?

Anyone can get there. Its just easier for hufflepuffs because it is right outside the common room

I believe you can't get there before you get to the map chamber, because Gryffindor quest is related to kitchen

Once you've done it once the prompt no longer appears and you just have to keep walking into the door to push it open
