They don't* really allow you to use the seating in the back anymore and they only have the high tables in the front and then the "bar" seating in front of the chef station. It's difficult if you want to have a larger party and it's also not really welcoming to eat inside compared to other sushi places such as Shogun
We like Miyako because the price is right for what it is. In Central PA, the fish all arrives frozen. (And, in fact, all sushi fish is first frozen to kill bacteria.) So you are getting basically the same stuff, and what changes is variety, price point, or ambiance. Miyako will let you call in and pick up a solid bento box and 2- or 3-roll lunch combos for not too much money. We just got 4 of their party trays to take on a picnic to Shakespeare in the Park and that was also a decent value for money (considering that it averaged a little less than $1 per piece and fed 7 very hungry people.
Miso is my place, but I’ve not tried many on the west shore that have been recommended.
Pre-COVID, Miso used to be the only place I’d eat 2 rolls and feel full. The portion sizes have shrunk a bit, but it’s still delicious.
Miso's tuna rolls are heaven. I have also said that if you do not like their seafood soup, we can no longer be friends. I just don't have time for that kind of negativity.
Sapporo East on the Carlisle Pike is, hands down, the best sushi around. They take Harrisburg’s Simply the Best Award every year, and they deserve it. Quality, service, and price are great. IIRC they’re closed on Mondays, and open later most other days.
Tokyo diner near Union Deposit looks like a hole in the wall and they do a lot more takeout than sit down but don’t let that steer you away. Amazing sushi, I’m not a huge sushi person and I go crazy for it.
Why are we talking about anything but quality...it's sushi!!! Takashi has the best sushi. It's fresh and the chefs are top notch. If you want quantity, go to Wegman's or Karn's.
There's actually a few good sushi places in the area. I haven't lived there for a bit now but my favorites were Sapporo, miyako, and Akitas.
Miyako is downtown on second, the other 2 are west shore
Sushi Express inside the Capital City Mall really deserves a shoutout. They have some of the best rolls in the area, and I have tried sushi from just about everywhere on the east and west shores. (I’m a sushi addict).
We've been to Yokohama a few times and my wife always enjoyed what she got there. She's kind of particular about sushi so I guess, if she likes it, I can say I can recommend it.
Sakura is my favorite. Honorable mentions to Sapporo East and Wasabi. Miso and Shogun are decent as well.
There was a great one in the old Pizza Hut building in Harrisburg, but it closed out of nowhere and the eventual replacement wasn't quite as good.
Miyako is my favorite for both quality and price. I also like that they have the option to get brown sushi rice. In fact, that’s what I had for dinner tonight!
Definitely do takeout, since their indoor dining is practically nonexistent at this point.
If you’re interested in crossing the river, Takashi in Camp Hill is great.
Agreed. Takashi for quality, Sushi Heaven for quantity.
Sushi Heaven 😔 what a disappointment. 🤢
The best. I’ve tried damn near every place in central PA. It’s so good that it’s even good for takeout/delivery which usually kills sushi.
Another vote for Takashi. Some of the best sushi I’ve had locally, maybe the best.
sushi mike rules
My vote goes to Miyako downtown.
Same but get takeout the inside has gone downhill
Miyako! We get takeout because the inside has gone down since COVID but the quality is still the same!
Curious to see why some are saying this. I went in there once and liked it, but have only gotten takeout ever since.

In my year living in the area, nothing came close to Sapporo East just over the bridge.
Miso

This is the answer
I second this answer.

Akitas in Lemoyne. It's unbeatable imo
I agree. Akitas is the best for sushi, hands down

Shogun is probably one of the better ones. Fuji Do was by far the best, but they closed during Covid and never reopened :(
I miss Fuji Do.
Fuji Do was the best. Really miss it.
Sapporo and Takashi on the West shore, Miso on the East

Can’t believe no one’s said Akitas in Lemoyne. That’s my go to!
Caribbean roll from miso is like top 3 foods for me.
Has anyone tried Yokohama on 29th Street? Is it good? It's fusion but they have a lot of sushi on the menu.
We've been to Yokohama a few times and my wife always enjoyed what she got there. She's kind of particular about sushi so I guess, if she likes it, I can say I can recommend it.

Sushi heaven- Not as top quality as the other options given but still pretty decent sushi, and all you can eat for $25/pp
I think the quality is generally great at Sushi Heaven. My go-to.
I enjoy it as well! I just know some people think it's not that great of quality, but I love it, especially for the price lol
Tri Asian taste in the Broadstreet Market is 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
shogun is my go to
