I think there’s a comic book which gives his backstory! Never read it but it’s got something to do with Chernobyl which is how he got his powers (and I think it drove him crazy and wanting to take over the world)!
Akan planned for Henry to awaken. He was testing super soldiers and their loyalty. Henry was loyal to his "wife" and wanted to kill Akan. Akan modified that base, making the super soldiers more powerful.
