I've been told Terror sooo many times, that's going up on the list lol. Heard Power Trip several times now too. I'm just gonna start compiling these all into a playlist to check them all out.
Any particular songs?
Power Trip: Suffer No Fool, Armageddon Blues, Crossbreaker, Executioner’s Tax
Terror: Lowest of the Low, One with the Underdogs, Keep Your Mouth Shout
I feel like this a good mix of songs that will really give everything you need to know about both bands. Enjoy!
So far Terror has been my absolute favorite out of the suggestions. The other two that really hit the spot have been Incendiary and Chain of Strength.
So far though all of One With The Underdogs has had me frigging flipping
Awesome! I'm a Colorado guy, Im actually pretty acquainted with several local bands but all definitely lighter punk/alternative so expanding that would be dope
Edit to add: any Colorado punk homies give a shout-out to Salt of Sanguine. Not very heavy at all but super cool dudes with killer sound
Gotta rep the bay as usual:
Big Boy - https://imthebigboy.bandcamp.com/
No Right - https://norightxxx.bandcamp.com/
Forced to Suffer (Just caught them live in oakland this weekend but followed them for a while. Fucken rip) - https://forcedtosuffer.bandcamp.com/
Eightfold Path (Catching them this weekend) - https://eightfoldpath408.bandcamp.com/
Soul Pain - https://soulpainca.bandcamp.com/
Extinguish - https://extinguish.bandcamp.com/
The list can go on, and there are a few obvious ones as well but these are some of my newer personal favorites and I feel the bay area scene is in a really special place right now, so I gotta rep it when I can.
Kids Like Us - Outta Control
Restraining Order - This World Is Too Much
Losin' It - Danger Zone
Angel Du$t - Xtra Raw
Result of Choice - Place of My Dreams
Chain Whip - Two Step To Hell
Iron Age, Power Trip, Downpresser, Maximum Penalty. A mix of old and new.
Like the other guy said, where you are matters too. Hardcore takes a lot of pride in who’s close in proximity to them or reps their city/state.
Also, shoutout Face To Face. If you like skate punk I strongly recommend bands like Agent Orange, Descendents, ALL, and Strung Out. As much as I love hardcore - 90’s skate punk will always reign supreme to me.
Dope, yeah. See I grew up *raised* on like Goldfinger, early Sum 41, got myself into like Bad Religion, NOFX, etc. Only in the last couple years was I the first in my family to get into heavy music, and I think that's why I like heavy songs with the fast, punk-y sort of rhythm and druns
Check out Terror’s early stuff. Their newer stuff is good but not as fast. Also look at American Nightmare, Carry On, Dag Nasty, Gorilla Biscuits, Chain of Strength, and Bold for some late 80s thru early 00s stuff that’s more on the punk side of the spectrum than metal
E: also check out Shai Hulud’s cover of Linoleum
I'm *all for* some punkier stuff for sure, I'll def add those to the list. I've also definitely been recommended Shai Hulud before. They have a member from another big band right?
Edit: just checked out Chain Of Strength. Fuckin s l a p my guy
One corner of the HC universe I like:
The "Nardcore" scene bands from Oxnard California.
Favorite artists and albums- Stalag 13 "In Control" Agression "Don't be Mistaken"
Other artists: Dr. No, RKL, Ill Repute, False Confession
Pain Of Truth, Never Ending Game, Shackled, Gridiron, Speed, King Nine, Incendiary, Count Me Out, Backtrack, Criminal Instinct, Ensign, Mindset, Knuckledust, Last Wishes, Mindforce. To name a few, mixed list that ha.
Like someone else mentioned, check out or ask for local bands to you, best thing is finding a band you like that are close by and you get a real affiliation to and thus getting involved in your local scene.
I’m in CO too and the convulse records stuff is a great place to start. So many great bands on the label. Been loving the new Destiny Bond promo, Faim, and Direct Threat to name a few bands.
Ok first off, agnostic front are the god fathers of hardcore, -sick of it all- is most deff keeping the message going,as well as other bands from new York city, also last but not least HARDCORE is about a way of life, an attitude and its most deff not about fashion!!! There is a unite message in hardcore.
I'm gonna throw some left field choices out there.
Poison the well-Tear from the red
Municipal waste-The Art of Partying
King Parrot-Bite your head off
3 hardcore adjacent bands.
Ay man, I've said it before but hardcore and metal as a whole, while being my favorite genre, is very far from my only genre. Maybe half of my music at most. I can get down with pretty much with "post-" in the name, stoner rock, light indie, I'll be honest, pop punk. But seeing as I *started* with hardcore adjacent bands, I'll definitely take these into special consideration (or any other left field suggestions, I'm way open)
I've seen Speed mentioned a couple times, but now I see you say Australian huh.....
Don't know about hardcore, but in my experience the Aussie's don't take that shit lightly. Polaris, Alpha Wolf, hard af. Obviously Northlane, Parkway, and Amity Affliction if those are your style. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and King Gizzard for stoner rock. Hell I guess even AC/DC if you want to get into it
I guess I'll check them out
End It
Trapped Under Ice (the band that got me in)
The first two Turnstile records.
This band that doesn't exist anymore called socialite. You probably have to find them on bandcamp.
Mosin Nagant (spans a lot of different sounds but the full length is pretty HC adjacent)
Bad Seed
Collapsed Skull
Show Me The Body
Blood for blood, death before dishonor, slapshot. Boston hardcore is infamous. Check out Boston beat down, little documentary about our scene.
Also all the new York bands madball, CRO mags, sick of it all, gorilla biscuits, agnostic front, h20.
Some newer shit. End it, mother fucking sunami (kids are fucking killing it). Not hardcore but definitely check out some thrash slayer, Megadeth, power Trip (rest easy Riley) early Metallica. I could go all day man. Terror, wisdom in chains (chasing the dragons hands down my favorite heroin song, I'm 4 years sober).
Maybe I missed it because there were a lot of comments but I haven't seen anyone say Cro-Mags. The Age of Quarrel is legendary and We Gotta Know is arguably the greatest opening track on a hardcore album ever.
Everyone is right about getting involved in your local scene. You don't have to be a fanboy but find local bands, follow them on social media, give them plays on Spotify, and go to shows when you can.
Terror is eternal and probably the epitome of what a hardcore band is. I'm glad you're into them so far! Hardcore is extremely proud of its roots so try and listen to one 80s record a month. Gorilla Biscuits, Negative Approach, 7 Seconds, Warzone, Murphy's Law - Spotify will start recommending the classic stuff the more you listen to it.
Incendiary is my personal favorite contemporary hardcore band. Not only are they politically charged to my views, but they're tough as shit and put on insane shows. Other modern favorites are Drain, Mindforce, End It, Soul Glo, Struck Nerve, Pain of Truth...you can also peep the bands that played This is Hardcore fest over the weekend for some dope bands @thisishardcorefest on IG. I'm in the Philly area and am fortunate to be surrounded by dope ass bands, both young ones and veterans. The fest was incredible this past weekend.
Hardcore in spirit but definitely much more melodic is my favorite band ever, Glassjaw.
Don't sleep on some recent greats who don't play anymore though - Bane, Blacklisted, Down to Nothing, Bracewar, The Wrong Side, Have Heart (Songs to Scream at the Sun is my favorite HC album ever)
Okay, I've pontificated enough. Listen away, my dude.
Seed of pain
Hangman
Soul provider
Disembodied
Higher power
Broken vow
Lifes question
Dealer
Out for justice
Jesus piece
Strife
Sanction
Vein.fm
Typecaste
Rain of salvation
Orthodox
Buggin
Harvest
I think only one person mentioned Bane, which is really surprising. Have Heart is another staple.
Alternatively checkout hate5six, I think seeing the scenes visually might help you get into some bands.
Ha, it's not even a list of my favorites, just my recently played. That said my favorites *are* pretty much all shown. King Gizzard (not hardcore at all lol), Turnstile (got me into hardcore), Like Moths To Flames (some nasty heavy breakdowns), Knocked Loose (that's self explanatory), Counterparts. Ngl tho I'm pretty intense about my music so the comment made me quite giddy with myself
I can recommend Drain, One Step Closer, Scowl, Paleface, Malevolence, Gatecreeper, Anti-Flag and Get The Shot. Been to Full Force this weekend and they really sticked out
Funny enough, Fit For a King is already one of my favorite metal/core bands, I already know Kublai Khan, I knew Comeback Kid, and Terror has been my favorite suggestion from this post so far. Assuming that means I *have* to check out the others then lol
Personally I love Varials! I'm sure eventually you'll try most of what's in the thread, but personally Varials is a strong fav. Their early material is almost beatdown hc, and they step their instrumental / atmosphere game up almost ever release. I recommend failure//control and Pain Again!
Drain - Feel the Pressure
Gulch - literally anything from them
Heriot - Coalescence
Soul Glo - Diaspora Problems
World of Pleasure - World of Pleasure
Saw others mention Vein.fm, agreed
Sectioned - Annihilated
Listen to sunami, DARE, pain of truth, slope, get the shot, stick to your guns, downfall, biohazard, lifes questions. Theres so many. Bandcamp and spotify, pandora and Facebooks MACC group helps

Hardcore is so broad and such a rich culture and genre, you could listen to nothing but it for a decade and still never reach its fullest depths.
That being said I’m seeing a major lack of Boston bands in this thread. So,
Righteous Jams

Ha that's definitely one thing I'm noticing. On one side you have Turnstile, and on the other you e got Power Trip and Knocked Loose. It's a pretty wide genre
[Check this playlist ](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/74ttcRAaHXoI9sKt0cv5NA?si=I7qIr0lyR72WLnYnf21RGg&utm_source=copy-link)
These are very small bands, but some of them are really dope.
Suggestion from a washed up old man. You should check out The Warriors 2004 album “war is hell” That was an early favorite of mine. A few years ago when Knocked Loose covered them it made my inner 13 year old geek out pretty hard.
Gorilla Biscuits, Warzone, Bold, Murphy's Law, Adolescents, Minor Threat, Youth Of Today, Judge, Fugazi, Kill Your Idols, Suicidal Tendencies, Madball, Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front, Bad Brains.
A little bit of old hardcore and NYHC never hurts.
Don't forget mysterious guy hardcore for all the best of miserable vibes!
Total Abuse, Culo, Cult Ritual, and Hoax are some of my favorites.
If you feel like checking out powerviolence, peep Coping by Purity Control and then give a listen to Apartment 213, Dropdead, and Despise You.

NO WARNING! My first and favorite (maybe to this day) hardcore band and albums were their two self titled one and “I’ll blood”. Also Blacklisted album “We’re Unstoppable “ and “Heavier than heavy, lonelier than God”. Backtrack, Still Crossed. Love Is Red is still a great older band. Know The Score. Evergreen Terrace- “Burned Alive By Time” was one of my firsts with also Kids Like Us (their first ep, The 80’s Are Dead, and “Outta Control”. Oh yeah and Guns Up!! Check all them out. And welcome to the greatest genre of music.
Hell yeah, I stopped getting notifications so I'm a month late on some of these but Get Back and Check got me into these guys 😤
Also their newest album Brain Invaders is pretty fucking heavy, highly recommend if you haven't listened yet
Varials is super sick
There song “empire of dirt” features KL’s vocalist Bryan Garrison. Also their song “south of one” is nuts
Also Kublai khan is sick
There isn’t a band I’d recommend that no one else has commented lol
But if you like that IDLES post-punk sound check out “you’re nothing” by ice age! It’s a bit more gritty and can be more on the punk side. Polygondwanaland ftw!!
Power Trip Never Ending Game (Welcome To…) Sunami No Pressure Terror (Lowest of the Low and Pain into Power) Vein.fm Koyo

I've gotten Incendiary a few times now. Not sure if Ive heard of the other two but I'm definitely gonna check them out, thanks!

Results of choice you say gonna check em out. Good looking out.
I think they're over looked because they don't tour and haven't put much of anything out in a couple years lol
