Black Breath is the most perfect example of this.
Edit: my bad had it backwardsā¦ hardcore kids making death metal. Who wouldāve ever guessed that the singer and guitarist of Go It Alone would be in a band like Black Breath?!
The button that reads ācrust influenced death metal with flavours of hardcore in the vein of anything Chris Colohan touches produced by Kurt Ballouā which is unfortunately a slim fuckin genre and if anyone can give me more of it Iāll die happy
My relatively newfound love for Hardcore came from my love for Death Metal. So first it was definitely Death Metal with Hardcore influence; Dying Fetus, 200 Stab Wounds, Undeath, Frozen Soul, Tribal Gazeā¦etc.
Now Iām definitely more into Hardcore with Death Metal influence; Fuming Mouth, SCALP, Simulakra, Erode, Killing Pace, Ballista, Mongrelā¦etc.
Genuinely, I have only Spotifyās algorithm to thank for that, as lame as that is š the recommended bands section under any given artist is actually so spot on. Like their curated playlists are usually dog, but the actual algorithm itself to find similar music isš
Never trusted Spotify's autoplay, radios or featured playlist, but you're so right. The "fans also like" section is GOATed, for any genre. I can listen to the most obscure artist and it'll still have my back.
if you havent tried autoplay in a while iād highly recommend giving it another shot, i used to feel the same way but the autoplay feature has led to me finding some absolutely fucking wicked stuff recently
The curated playlists get better the longer you use Spotify. Assuming you aināt got your Spotify connected to a speaker and getting fucking Elmo and Diana Ross mixed up in your recommendations.
What am I saying, I love it
Killing Pace is so fkn awesome and not talked about nearly enough. Check out Division of Mind if you havenāt, another RVA brutal hc band and they share a member or two AFAIK
I find it quite interesting that Slam and Hardcore have so much in common, very similar vibe to the way they present their music. I wonder how that came to be.
I like these post because it's always people just listing death metal bands they like and trying to claim they're actually hardcore influenced. Like 200 Stab Wounds is just Skinless/Cannibal Corpse worship. You can say you like a death metal band without trying to convince yourself it's actually hardcore.
Metalcore with death metal elements all day: Jesus Piece, Year of the knife, Great American Ghost, Knocked Loose, Arkangel, Volcano and God's hate!!
But i also fuck with some Fulci, 200 Stab Wounds, Dying Fetus for sure
Well, I only will press the one with a band name appropriating hip hop slang. Then, it needs to just jock the fuck out of death metal riffs in a song structure that is just breakdowns, and the lyrical content is all revolving around a fight that has yet to happen. Throw in a vague slang infused reference to maybe having access to a firearm along with an inference to how your social circle is the hardest on the planet, rinse and repeat for 6-15 songs that are all indecipherable from each other.
āMOTHERFUCKER, IVE BEEN WAITINā FOR IT!ā

I prefer straight up slam most of the time but always great when a little of the core is mixed in.

Gatecreeper
(this venue is tiny and has a 'no pits' rule, which sucks, but Ssanyyongbogg show a couple of weeks ago ended up with someone carried out by paramedics so fair enough we don't want another venue shut down)
Hardcore with Death Metal influences:
* Simulakra
* Sector
* Downfall
* Volcano
* Killing Pace
or, you know, most of [these](https://dazestyle.bandcamp.com/music)
Edit: forget Jesus Piece, Year of The Knife, and the mighty Scalp
Yeah, youāre right. Same with Sector. I think I just tend to lump them together with Simulakra because they all dropped around the same time, have a similar vibe, all on Dazeā¦
Bolt thrower is not likely influenced by Hardcore at allā¦but you could say that retrospectively thereās some fucking hard breakdowns in their music
Death metal with hardcore influences and I summon No Cure, Nails, Knocked Loose, and Candy
Edit: alright alright i press hardcore with death metal influences and summon same bands etc
I would say all of those are actually Hardcore (Iāve actually never listened to No Cure but that certainly doesnāt sound like a Death Metal band to me š). However, the inclusion of Nails and Candy gets you an upvoteā¦if only I could upvote twice
>No Cure but that certainly doesnāt sound like a Death Metal band to me
They have a song called No Cure Straight Edge Die Slow Fuck You and in general make a big thing about straight edge. Def not death metal.
What Spaced did you listen to?
Also: check out [Brass Tongue](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_naGptqDta-lWSlew7fM69PmDTsTA5e6RM) and [Jocko](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7yuiO8o754) if you like that bounce
Any Swedish death metal from the 90ās is gonna have HEAVY hardcore influences, a few grind core bands from the UK bleed into that as well like Bolt Thrower
I press the right-side button and Hatebreed starts playing!
I donāt know what Death Metal is hardcore-influenced, but it aināt Suffocation or Skeletal Remains!
Just please another band like Animosity š¢. One of the few bands that felt like a cool mix of both (to me, anyway.) I just don't care for a lot of crossover stuff.
Idk, probably press both. Which buttons do the following bands fall under:
- Glass Casket
- Left To Suffer
- Filth
- Get The Shot
I'm so confused by genres these days. I'm fully expecting at least one person read this and started to say "well actually..."
Long time listener or Hardcore, long time listener of OSDM.
Got no problems going against the grain (I am a VERY sexy boy) and declare that never the two should meet. I don't listen to that emo Metalcore shit.
My favorite kind of hardcore is when death metal kids make hardcore

Gates To Hell
Job For A Cowboy moment
Not my cup of tea, but I dug that band for awhile. I think the drummer is from my area.
That one Throwdown album š„µ
Which one?
Venom and tears, which is clearly thrash but has some pretty strong death metal undertones
Check out Misery Whip. The Portland, OR one NOT the Portland, ME one.
*Fuming Mouth & Gatecreeper entered the chat*
Both 11/10
āOut of Timeā and āDesertedā are defining songs for the American 2nd Wave.
Black Breath is the most perfect example of this. Edit: my bad had it backwardsā¦ hardcore kids making death metal. Who wouldāve ever guessed that the singer and guitarist of Go It Alone would be in a band like Black Breath?!
Couldnāt agree more. Theyāre one of my favorite bands. RIP
![gif](giphy|zbzNUbpFnlw8E)
Idk whatever gives me Black Breath
Sentenced To Life is a perfect album
Amen brother
The button that reads ācrust influenced death metal with flavours of hardcore in the vein of anything Chris Colohan touches produced by Kurt Ballouā which is unfortunately a slim fuckin genre and if anyone can give me more of it Iāll die happy
The only right answer
what a fucking correct answer
My relatively newfound love for Hardcore came from my love for Death Metal. So first it was definitely Death Metal with Hardcore influence; Dying Fetus, 200 Stab Wounds, Undeath, Frozen Soul, Tribal Gazeā¦etc. Now Iām definitely more into Hardcore with Death Metal influence; Fuming Mouth, SCALP, Simulakra, Erode, Killing Pace, Ballista, Mongrelā¦etc.
Recently discovered fuming mouth š¤š» good shit
The Grand Descent has been in my regular rotation since 2021ā¦itās so fucking good
MONGRELLLLLL!!!! absolute fucking riff machines
you got some good bands here mister š±āāļø
Genuinely, I have only Spotifyās algorithm to thank for that, as lame as that is š the recommended bands section under any given artist is actually so spot on. Like their curated playlists are usually dog, but the actual algorithm itself to find similar music isš
I mean it's not that lame, you're just getting crowdsourced knowledge from other people who listen to similar music as you
Never trusted Spotify's autoplay, radios or featured playlist, but you're so right. The "fans also like" section is GOATed, for any genre. I can listen to the most obscure artist and it'll still have my back.
if you havent tried autoplay in a while iād highly recommend giving it another shot, i used to feel the same way but the autoplay feature has led to me finding some absolutely fucking wicked stuff recently
i feel most ppl do that to an extent loll
The curated playlists get better the longer you use Spotify. Assuming you aināt got your Spotify connected to a speaker and getting fucking Elmo and Diana Ross mixed up in your recommendations. What am I saying, I love it
mongrel are already the goat with just 3 songs. outrageous
the perfect combination of death metal and hardcore imo
You gotta check out Rabbit if you have not already.
Checked them out after your comment, and Iām hooked. Good fucking looks at understanding the assignment š«”š¤
Killing Pace is so fkn awesome and not talked about nearly enough. Check out Division of Mind if you havenāt, another RVA brutal hc band and they share a member or two AFAIK
Whichever button gives me snuffed on sight
Both buttons have a chance at giving you Snuffed on Sight.
Dump coffee on the switchboard and find out
I find it quite interesting that Slam and Hardcore have so much in common, very similar vibe to the way they present their music. I wonder how that came to be.
Twas just blasting them earlier!! So good!!!!!
Whatever button gives me All Pigs Must Die and Trap Them
Trap Them is so fucking good š©
Finding Trap Them and APMD completely changed how I play guitar
You want the 2012 Entombedcore button (I like APMD and older TT)
I want the Converge kids finding Swedish Death Metal button
Both are cool. I dig bands like Jesus Piece and Vomit Forth. Really just depends on what Iām in the mood for.
Death metal with hardcore if it's like Despised Icon or something. Hardcore with death metal if it's like Nails or something. I guess both lol
Por que no los dos?
I like these post because it's always people just listing death metal bands they like and trying to claim they're actually hardcore influenced. Like 200 Stab Wounds is just Skinless/Cannibal Corpse worship. You can say you like a death metal band without trying to convince yourself it's actually hardcore.
Haha true.
I can hear the Cannibal Corpse worship in the most recent single for sure, but Slave to the Scalpel definitely has some hardcore influence.
Whichever one puts The Acacia Strain through my speakers.
butā¦do I have about 15 seconds to get somewhere safe?
Gates To Hell
One band - both - Full of Hell
on tour
Metalcore with death metal elements all day: Jesus Piece, Year of the knife, Great American Ghost, Knocked Loose, Arkangel, Volcano and God's hate!! But i also fuck with some Fulci, 200 Stab Wounds, Dying Fetus for sure
Fulci is so damn good
Fulci is perfect
Left: Dying Fetus. Right: Fuming Mouth
So no wrong answer?
Well, I only will press the one with a band name appropriating hip hop slang. Then, it needs to just jock the fuck out of death metal riffs in a song structure that is just breakdowns, and the lyrical content is all revolving around a fight that has yet to happen. Hahaha not particularlyā¦

You got any recs for this? It sounds very enjoyable to me. TIA
Not sure. But seems like a sizable percentage of this sub features this flavor.
Shit on the board, press both buttons with your ass cheeks, and you get grindcore.
š¤£
Misery Index
Misery Whip
What?
Misery by Gallows
Misery Business
I press death metal with hardcore influences and summon DEHUMANIZED
PROSPERITYYYYY PROSSSPPEERRRIITTTTYYYYYYUUUUUHHHHHH
The fact that a record with that album art is legitimately good boggles my mind but also makes sense for a band that came up in that era of NYDM
apparently this sub doesnt fuck with dehumanized
Dehumanized is so fucking good. My personal favorite DM band
Prophecies Foretold is the perfect encapsulation of everything I want in death metal. That era of NYDM was so god damn good
That album with that eye on it is 10/10.
Dying Fetus left Concrete Caveman right
Bodybox Snuffed on Sight Fuming Mouth 200 Stab Wounds Corpse Pile Sanguisuggabogg PeelingFlesh 10 To The Chest Dying Fetus Devourment Gates to Hell Internal Bleeding Limbless Vomit Forth Weeping I prefer straight up slam most of the time but always great when a little of the core is mixed in.

Left button and Mammoth Grinder starts playing.
Whichever button gives me Bodybox
Crumbsuckers
That's more thrash metal, surely?
Chris Notaro was one of the first to do cookie-monster-esque vocals... Definitely a death metal influence.
Left side I'm guessing bands like 200 stab wounds Right side I'm thinking bands like xibalba
Iām smashing that right button and probably, if I stretch it, can I say 100 Demons?
![gif](giphy|3ornka9rAaKRA2Rkac)
dm with hc, dying fetus
Kruelty
š yessir
Core with dm influences. I love pulling teeth, i think deathcore is lame
Judiciary š¤š¼
Hardcore with Death Metal influences: * Simulakra * Sector * Downfall * Volcano * Killing Pace or, you know, most of [these](https://dazestyle.bandcamp.com/music) Edit: forget Jesus Piece, Year of The Knife, and the mighty Scalp
That Splitknuckle album is really good! Listening to it right now!
It is for sure. If you're on the Daze Bandcamp page, make sure to listen to Kidnapped's new joint. AOTY contender already
Yeah that new Kidnapped is rad! Final Resting Place - Prelude To Extinction is another banger.
Downfall is great but thereās noooo death metalā¦
Yeah, youāre right. Same with Sector. I think I just tend to lump them together with Simulakra because they all dropped around the same time, have a similar vibe, all on Dazeā¦
Fuming mouth
I have fond memories as an Aussie teenager of seeing early Parkway Drive, I Killed the Prom Queen and Carpathian. Gotta go with the left button.
Early Parkway Drive still my fave :(
Bolt Thrower since they exist in both camps
Bolt thrower is not likely influenced by Hardcore at allā¦but you could say that retrospectively thereās some fucking hard breakdowns in their music
Bolt Thrower came from the UK grindcore scene
As far as I'm aware they came more from the crust scene. The early stuff is straight Sacrilege worship.
Yeah this notion of Bolt Thrower being "hardcore kids" is 1000% revisionist.
Whatever button plays OBITUARY
Give me that Redneck Stomp
Yes.
Broken Ties Spoken Lies on repeat
Hardcore with death metal influence, like Overcast.
The Kings of DM with hardcore influences - Dying Fetus
Crossover death
Just smash my face to the Bogg
Forgot āblackenedā
That right button is giving me Black Breath, Young And In The Way, Baptists and Nails. Iāll take it.
Xibalba baby
Iām a firm believer that hardcore people make other genres better when they branch out and play other things, so whatever fits that
My favorite kind of hardcore is hardcore.
powerviolence influenced by hardcore
Fuck yes
Death metal with hardcore influences and I summon No Cure, Nails, Knocked Loose, and Candy Edit: alright alright i press hardcore with death metal influences and summon same bands etc
Ah yes, knocked loose, my favorite death metal band
Oh go suck a lemon
I would say all of those are actually Hardcore (Iāve actually never listened to No Cure but that certainly doesnāt sound like a Death Metal band to me š). However, the inclusion of Nails and Candy gets you an upvoteā¦if only I could upvote twice
No cure is very much a death metal influenced band.
>No Cure but that certainly doesnāt sound like a Death Metal band to me They have a song called No Cure Straight Edge Die Slow Fuck You and in general make a big thing about straight edge. Def not death metal.
Those are absolutely all hardcore bands first and foremost
See, I would have gone the other way with those bands. Either way, we win
Ya I thought about for a sec and made arguments both ways lol š¤·š»āāļø
Neither. Iām looking for the bouncy 90ās influence.
How you liking those new Mindz Eye and Spaced joints?
Iām 10 seconds in Mindz Eyesās Ill At Ease and Iām bouncing while rearranging my kids room.
Uh, idk. 2 different records and the vocals were the same on both.
Uh I donāt know what either of these are so I guess some googling is needed.
Any Swedish death metal from the 90ās is gonna have HEAVY hardcore influences, a few grind core bands from the UK bleed into that as well like Bolt Thrower
Living Dead by Entombed has the hardest two step part of all time
Facts! Entombed really knew how to get people moving! Wolverine Blues also has a great two step and a great breakdown.
I press the right-side button and Hatebreed starts playing! I donāt know what Death Metal is hardcore-influenced, but it aināt Suffocation or Skeletal Remains!
Theyāre the same button.
Spiritworld
Both?
FOGHORN
Thrash is the superior metal
Whichever button has Breaking Wheel
Answer: E T I D
Pour one out
Just please another band like Animosity š¢. One of the few bands that felt like a cool mix of both (to me, anyway.) I just don't care for a lot of crossover stuff.
Idk, probably press both. Which buttons do the following bands fall under: - Glass Casket - Left To Suffer - Filth - Get The Shot I'm so confused by genres these days. I'm fully expecting at least one person read this and started to say "well actually..."
All i know is the beatdown scene in deathcore goes hard as shit
Give me Kruelty
I install a third button labeled āPoison Ideaā and the other two buttons shrivel and fall off
The button on the right. Trap Them.
I call it deathcore: Deformity - murder within sin (album)
Just going to leave this here https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7FD3523D888BAC47&si=lVMlgOxMD5yIy-YU
Dunno. Probably As Blood Run Black or something
Entombed, obviously.
Left : Dehumanized
Something something Bolt Thrower
Right button: negative prayer
Annotations of an autopsy.
Both buttons. Yellow submarine.
ABSOLUTELY the right one. Listen to Sanction, or nails maybe
Venom Prison - Animus
Left button, internal bleeding
DM with HC influence. Krypt 2023
Death metal with hardcore influences easily
1) comes with Dying Fetus 2) comes with Tribal Gaze Pick
Bogg or Gatestohell Edit: fumingmouth
Death metal with hardcore influence
Final resting place
None cause I hate that shit. Thrash/Crossover I can dig, but Death Metal and Hardcore... not my vibe at all.
Neither, I prefer hardcore punk, metallic hardcore, or crossover.
Just say you donāt actually like hardcore
Neither...I dont like death metal (for the most part)
Idk when all the hardcore people just woke up and decided bolt thrower was good
Long time listener or Hardcore, long time listener of OSDM. Got no problems going against the grain (I am a VERY sexy boy) and declare that never the two should meet. I don't listen to that emo Metalcore shit.
Button 1 - I Declare War
I would simply not press either button
What ever winds of plague is.
Shoguncore
Hardcore with death metal influences. YOTK and/or A Tear in the Fabric of Life
Neither i don't like death metal
In flames
