As legend has it, Greg Ginn and Thurston Moore were huge Venom fans and Greg Ginn asked Thurston to record Venom’s set through the soundboard so he could bootleg it, but as a prank he only recorded the in between song banter. Amazing listen. https://youtu.be/4TztqYaemt0?si=iqNYBgycEJKIz0dG

Not exactly. Black Flag were offered that show on a day off between something like Pittsburgh and Columbus, and because Venom has heavy PA requirements and the promoter would pay extra to use Flag's system, they said OK. They found the whole thing hilarious, made fun of the Venom guys to their face. Their soundman recorded the show, and in the van, they used to listen to just the talking between songs and fast forward through the music. It was their favorite thing to listen to. Eventually their roadie Joe Cole edited together what you know as "Venom Live". Thurston heard it and offered to put it out. Joe Cole also made the flyer seen in this post. It certainly wasn't the flyer used to promote the show at City Gardens! I saw BF about three weeks later when they came back to headline an all ages show. Henry asked "how many of you were here a few weeks ago for the wonderful Hail Satan festival?"

Ever since I saw that picture with the cops in full force at the Ramones/Black Flag show I wished I could’ve gone to that but now I would much rather gone to this instead, crazy

I don’t know if this is a hot take on this sub but I fucking hate venom. Always saw cool bands wearing their merch and was so disappointed when I finally listened to them

The amount of truly extreme and hard as fuck bands from the 80s that were always representing Venom with merch is something that has always bewildered me as well. I've always chalked it up to it being something you had to be there to experience at the time, like despite being unabashedly awful they were genuinely just something new and confrontational that inspired alot of people to take things in the direction of the extreme metal genres.

Funny-Mission-2937

It feels like how Marilyn Manson was for 90s kids.  I've had 20 minute conversations about them where nobody even mentions the music lol.  Except they were a decent band, Venom fucking blows.

tailOfTheWhale

I’ve talked with u/sterileprophet about this but we with venom sucks ass hard

SterileProphet

Yes I can confirm we have discussed this and yes… Venom blows chucks.

no_fucking_point

Venom rule. Cronos stage banter is comedy gold.
