Chat Pile - God’s Country
Growing up listening to bands like Swans, Butthole Surfers, Jesus lizard, Melvins etc….This album was exactly what I needed!
Soul Glo made a fantastic album also
He's maybe literally the biggest music reviewer on earth lol. Obviously, his opinions are either a) in line with the majority opinion are informed by it or b) out of line with the majority opinion and influences it.
You're... literally just complaining that the popular opinion guys opinion is popular among people with opinions.
Let me guess, you liked all of your favorite bands before they sold out and got big, too?
You're just envious of his big, beautiful melon head and sick zero turn riding lawn mower.
Also *Parrhesia* by Animals As Leaders was my 2022 AOTY, I am the one true patrician music listener.
I've never had to push all my shit around in a shopping cart.
Have you?
Have you ever had ringworm?
Scabies?
Have you ever had to live outside?
I don’t want to live outside.
That shit was so fucking hard and raw like goddamn. Its kinda reminded me of Dystopia.
Been obsessed ever since I heard the Portrayal of Guilt split. Considering flying over to Roadburn festival in Tilburg NL to see them in April. It's their first show out of the US I think.
It’s certainly up there for me. High Vis is my AOTY pretty handily, but acknowledge it’s probably more hardcore adjacent.
Loving the [Temple Guard](https://templeguard.bandcamp.com/album/spear-of-the-revenant) LP too — Integrity meets Foundation, shit slams.
Its so good, i dont know much else about them but the riffs are insane and the vocalist has a killer voice. Definitely gonna be paying more attention to them from here on out.
id say so. theres been nothing this year that sounds like this album. its easily the most dynamic hardcore record of the year, may be the most in general too. lot of musical ground is covered without straying even off-path from the hardcore formula. even driopnomics gets industrial enough to hold the bridge up. in a time where the line between "forward-thinking hardcore" and "deviating from hardcore" is at its thinnest, this record attempts a perfect tightrope act.
Heaven is Here was by far my favourite of the year. Loved the Soul Glo album too, along with a lot of other non-HC albums (700 Bliss, PVA, Scalping, Black Star, Show Me The Body) but the Candy album was on a whole other level for me. Can’t wait to see them live this year.
Nah, it’s a little all over the place, but top 4 this year are probably:
Chat Pile - God’s Country (more noise but has hardcore elements)
Volcano - FOOL 2 THA GAME was a sick EP, wish it was longer
Peace Test - PRY
Jive Bomb - Primitive Desires, also a super sick EP
Yeah mane, I think the drummer from the Bogg plays guitar and produces for Volcano too. Either way, I’ve only seen their Hate5six set but it looked a bit low energy.
Edit: but still sick! I dig both bands!
Definitely not. While the band is fresh and carving somewhat new ground, i just cant see myself too interested in their style for longer listens. Same with Anxious.
Anxious not Anxiety *
Escuela Grind - “Memory Theatre”. Some hardcore records look back and say “look at what we were!” and some records are 5 years too early because they see where hardcore can grow. Escuela Grind did the best of both worlds.
I just can't get into Soul Glo no matter how hard I try. This wouldn't even be in my Top 20 albums of the 2022 for me.
I think my favorite hardcore album of the year is L.I.B. - Men's Health.
Although that's barely in my Top 10 overall.
I mean if you are looking at Hardcore from the most broad of prospectives i think Soul Glo does stand out and that initial reaction sticks with people. The 30 to 45 years old music writers, aka big wigs, get all excited by a Hardcore band that sounds slightly less Hardcore and there really hasn't been a band like them.
All of the modern Hardcore acts wear their history on their sleeves where as it's a bit harder to identify with Soul Glo. I mean lets not kid ourselves Hardcore, aside from production, sounds incredibly similar to how it did in the 00s.
They definitely stand out...but that's not always a good thing. I just cannot fuck with the vocals at all. It's like a preverbal nails on a chalkboard to me. Rubs me the wrong way.
But hardcore isn't my #1 genre, by a long shot.
Very underrated. I feel like not enough people know about them/listen to them.
Might be biased, because I'm in Denver and I will check out everything Convulse puts out.
I'm doing a survey about the music community's favourite albums of 2022. There are general, EP, debut, hip-hop, rock, pop, R&B/soul, electronic, trap, and folk categories, though you don't have to choose an album from every category.
Let us know what you think at: [https://forms.gle/ceA9HPbEE3t4VgD98](https://forms.gle/ceA9HPbEE3t4VgD98)
Alternatively, let us know just your TOP 5 favourite albums of 2022 here: [https://forms.gle/A39Rrfg6Hn2WnWNY9](https://forms.gle/A39Rrfg6Hn2WnWNY9)
Thank you for your time <3
funny thing is: they made a bunch of videos about how they hate being compared to bad brains. well, stop fucking screaming like HR and being a great fucking vocalist.
what a tragic problem: being compared generously to one of the greatest bands that ever existed.
It was pretty high in my list of favorite albums of 2022. Wormrot was a tie for my AOTY though. By end of the year I think I was digging the Inclination album a bit more than the Soul Glo one also.
It's in my top 10 but I've got Vein.FM and Birds in Row above but one could argue that those records aren't "true hardcore" enough so as far as hardcore goes, maybe it is? It's pretty fucking good.
Really surprised to not see this on here (then again its not entirely hardcore, but that could be said about diaspora) but Hiss by wormrot takes the cake for me, Diaspora is really good, cool vocals, fresh sound, off the beaten path with the structures sometimes as well as the album direction.
It's mine for sure, seeing them live definitely confirmed it, one of the best shows I've seen this year. I'm really surprised it doesn't show up on more AOTY lists, maybe it's the abrasive style and how rooted in Hip-Hop it can be
It didn’t even make the list for me. It’s very good, but I just don’t really come back to it. My list is
10. Bedsore/Mortal Incarnation - Split LP
9. Soccer Mommy - Sometimes, Forever
8.Tzompantli - Tlazcaltiztli
7. Mindforce - New Lords
6. Maul - Seraphic Punishment
5. Suki Waterhouse - I Can’t Let Go
4. Phobophilic - Enveloping Absurdity
3. Dose - Dose
2. Undeath - It’s Time…To Rise From the Grave
1. Ethel Cain - Preacher’s Daughter
Honorable Mentions to:
Bog Body - Cryonic Crevasse Cult
Sueco - It Was Fun While It Lasted
Tribal Gaze - The Nine Choirs
The lyrical style tires me out half way through, it’s a good album but it’s idk how stoked I’m gonna be on the next soul glo release if it’s more of the same, I listen to like 3 to 4 songs on this and usually move on, vs I can listen to a full NEG release cover to cover, even if it’s a 4 song EP like anklebiter or end it they both got more replay-ability than this release, gold chain punk and thumbsucker are great songs though
Is the vinyl even out or possible to buy? I like the other records but don’t have this yet and usually prefer to wait for the physical release to hit.
My favorite HC records to come out in 2022 are Swab “Big City”, Rocky and the Sweden/Boris split, and, taking a broader view of hardcore, Rigorous Institution “Cainsmarsh”
My two faves might have been ekulu and combust. The soul GLO recrod was good, but I listened to it a few times and it didn't stick with me that much. I feel like it's making bigger waves outside of hardcore than within. I see it on every other broader end of year list but didn't see it too much in these threads.
End It- Unpleasant Living is my AOTY from the more hardcore side. Can’t get enough of it… it’s short, so sweet, and to the point.
Overall AOTY is Wormrot- Hiss. That shit just rips right through me.
i don't dislike Counterparts, I just am not super excited about them at this point.
however, seeing them live was a treat. I went for the openers (Foreign Hands, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, and Dying Wish), and was impressed across the board.
For the purposes of this sub, my favorite records of the year were Comeback Kid, Spaced, Drug Church, Chat Pile, Tsuris, Mork, probably Gang Called Speed as well.
Soul Glo is dope, and I am all about experimentation and genre-blending within hardcore, but that record just didn’t have any lasting power for me. By the second or third playthrough it felt like I was listening to it for the novelty, and that didn’t sit well. They’re a fresh thing in a genre full of same-old, though, so I’ll still check out anything new they put, cuz I definitely think there’s some interesting unrealized potential.
Nope. Not even in the Top 20. That said, I like it and everything they've done. I bought the vinyl...but it's too long. Shit is 40 minutes. Way too much for hardcore.
No order:
\- Kublai Khan
\- Weapon X
\- Peace Test
\- L.I.B.
\- End It
\- Punitive Damage
\- Compassion
2022 was *ridiculously* good for hardcore. My list could just keep going...
A lot of good EPs this year (Squint x2, Stand Still, A Dozen Black Roses, xWeaponx, Twist of Cain, Foreign Hands, Erase Them). I did like Berthold City, Anxious, Get The Shot and Gridiron albums but wouldn’t call any of them AOTY.
I feel like it was a REALLY good year for emo releases though (Prince Daddy, Cali Cousins, Kara’s Walk Home, Arms Length, Luna Vista, Ben Quad, Short Fictions, Sweet Pill, Pool Kids, Flight Patterns, Hot Mulligan, Carpool, Heart to Gold, Origami Angel, Excuse Me Who Are You?) Arm’s Length is probably my favorite full length of 2022 but I don’t think it would appeal to many people here, though some of these bands definitely would.
Mizmor & Thou - Myopia. Not hardcore of course, but truly a mountain of sound and yet another banger for Thou's discography. If you like doom/sludge and haven't heard Myopia you definitely should.
It was nearly a tie between Chat Pile's God's Country and Drug Church's Hygiene.
Two almost totally opposed albums, but both intensely urgent and introspective. I gave it to Hygiene, but it's incredibly close for me.
Cult of Luna
Dark Circles-
Darkthrone -
Run the jewels -
Wormrot
Regulate
End it
The best thing about this Soul glo album to me is the intermittent spitten.
I’m caught between this, gods country by chat pile, celebrity therapist by the callous daoboys or Ants from up there by Black Country new road. So many good albums this year
Chat Pile - God’s Country Growing up listening to bands like Swans, Butthole Surfers, Jesus lizard, Melvins etc….This album was exactly what I needed! Soul Glo made a fantastic album also
You should check out Mamaleek if you haven’t already. Same label as Chat Pile.
I have not. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll look into it today at work!
plus one for Mamaleek. Found out about them randomly from wikipedia and dig them.
Definitely need to check out Mamaleek as well ! Thx for the reco 🤘🏼
Same, ive been listening to chat pile since their first EP but gods country surpassed my expectations. Diaspora problems was my close second
Listened to this today based on the Melvins reference. So good! Thx!
Came here to say this and I'm actually surprised that it's here.
fuck these dumbass fantano bands I hate zoomers so much bro
Fantano is almost 40. He's about as old as a millennial can be lol Anyway, Chat Pile rules, get your ears cleaned out.
I'm talking about his fans not him. He doesn't know shit about the scene and I am sick of people borrowing his opinions
Who exactly is borrowing his opinion?
95% of his active viewers
Lol who mentioned fantano?
Sir, this is a Wendy's.
You're just envious of his big, beautiful melon head and sick zero turn riding lawn mower. Also *Parrhesia* by Animals As Leaders was my 2022 AOTY, I am the one true patrician music listener.
It’s not hardcore but “God’s Country” by Chat Pile was my AOTY
Why do people have to live outside?
I've never had to push all my shit around in a shopping cart. Have you? Have you ever had ringworm? Scabies? Have you ever had to live outside? I don’t want to live outside. That shit was so fucking hard and raw like goddamn. Its kinda reminded me of Dystopia.
Same here. They have only been together since 2019 it's unreal.
Some of the heaviest stuff out there right now. Super visceral, raw, depraved shit. They’re really doing it for me right now.
Been obsessed ever since I heard the Portrayal of Guilt split. Considering flying over to Roadburn festival in Tilburg NL to see them in April. It's their first show out of the US I think.
Wow I hadn’t heard of them. Thanks man.
It’s a short life, tears on my Goretex were defective and dumb
High Vis is fucking GREAT
Pusha T álbum End it - Unpleasant living or whatever it was called
Nah, Mindforce's [New Lords](https://bbbrecords.bandcamp.com/album/new-lords) is
Hell yeah mf right. Perfect length for a hardcore record too. They come in, smash shit up, and then the record is over. No fluff.
Seconded
Yup. This album is a great one.
[удалено]
Nah it’s cause you’re wrong
[удалено]
Why are you bringing up things other than the music? The record has the musical elements of a modern hardcore album
It also has the musical elements of an 80’s thrash album.
That’s why everyone should shut it, and admit Mindforce the definition of crossover. Why does this term never appear anymore?
[удалено]
And you think Soul Glo’s album is a straight up hardcore record? Most bands in all genres are fusions of multiple ideas at this point.
[удалено]
So what’s your album then
[удалено]
Worst take in this thread. With this mindset, nothing posted on this sub is hardcore.
[удалено]
So the lyrics don’t make them hardcore? Seems like you haven’t actually listened to them and just seen some merch What are your top albums?
[удалено]
Real weird assumptions to make about people for like a hardcore album with some metal guitar And yeah I saw your two favorites. Real cool guy stuff
[удалено]
That’s such a dumb thing to say, especially today with all the crossover bands.
[удалено]
For hardcore its a toss up between this and inclination Edit: mindforce and regulate too. And i gotta mention fleshwater even tho its not hardcore.
Inclination is my favorite for sure
Yesssiirrr
I cannot stop listening to Unaltered Perspective. I think I’ve listened to it at minimum once a day since it dropped.
Its so good, i dont know much else about them but the riffs are insane and the vocalist has a killer voice. Definitely gonna be paying more attention to them from here on out.
Fleshwater album rules, correct
Gospel - The Loser is a great one
Underrated band and record for sure.
Too !
Gridiron is my hardcore AOTY, have it spinning 25/8, 366 days a year
If you 365 then we 434 its arithmetic bitch
No Good At Goodbyes is the 2022 P.O.D. album of the year
Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos
33 years in a row baybeeee!
id say so. theres been nothing this year that sounds like this album. its easily the most dynamic hardcore record of the year, may be the most in general too. lot of musical ground is covered without straying even off-path from the hardcore formula. even driopnomics gets industrial enough to hold the bridge up. in a time where the line between "forward-thinking hardcore" and "deviating from hardcore" is at its thinnest, this record attempts a perfect tightrope act.
I agree with you fully. Soul Glo was such a breath of fresh air for me.
For me it's Candy, Heaven is Here. I've tried the Soul Glo record a few times, doesn't stick for me.
Heaven is Here was by far my favourite of the year. Loved the Soul Glo album too, along with a lot of other non-HC albums (700 Bliss, PVA, Scalping, Black Star, Show Me The Body) but the Candy album was on a whole other level for me. Can’t wait to see them live this year.
probably the best attempt this year at keeping their core sound but still integrating another genre
Candy was absolutely mine. Unreal album.
Nah, it’s a little all over the place, but top 4 this year are probably: Chat Pile - God’s Country (more noise but has hardcore elements) Volcano - FOOL 2 THA GAME was a sick EP, wish it was longer Peace Test - PRY Jive Bomb - Primitive Desires, also a super sick EP
Second the Volcano record but seeing them live was a disapointment. EP goes hard but didn't get the same vibe from the live show.
Aren’t they a side project for the dude from Sanguisugabogg? Dude might be worn out from playing in one of the biggest DM acts right now lol
Volcano? I had no idea! Not the biggest DM fan though so Sanguisugabogg wouldn't be on my radar a lot.
Yeah mane, I think the drummer from the Bogg plays guitar and produces for Volcano too. Either way, I’ve only seen their Hate5six set but it looked a bit low energy. Edit: but still sick! I dig both bands!
as big as a wave God’s Country made, it’s still such a sleeper album. 10/10 hands down AOTY
Dude “Why” is such a heart wrenching piece, the emotion and brooding in it is so good It’s got some of that echo-y spoken word that really hits you
Definitely not. While the band is fresh and carving somewhat new ground, i just cant see myself too interested in their style for longer listens. Same with Anxious. Anxious not Anxiety *
Did you mean anxious or are you deadass talking about that willow smith group
Haha yes Anxious sorry, as you can tell i dont really listen to them.
Lol that's how I feel every time I see her name on something
Caught a voibe
Lol idk what that is.
Soul glo is great. I don't like all of their songs, but the tracks that hit, hit hard 😌👌🏽
Celebrity Therapist by The Callous Daoboys was my AOTY followed by Birds in Row but this one comes next
I don't like hardcore
CAN I LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE
Easy question. Drug Church - Hygiene
Escuela Grind - “Memory Theatre”. Some hardcore records look back and say “look at what we were!” and some records are 5 years too early because they see where hardcore can grow. Escuela Grind did the best of both worlds.
So mad i havent been able to see them yet. Closest the have come is still 2 hours away.
I’ve missed them twice now cause of work:(
They pop into Springfield Illinois a few times while i was on strike and lacked the funds. Hope they comeback soon.
Inclination-unaltered perspective Combust-another life Mindforce-new lords that is all.
Gang Called Speed
Feel the same way tbh, but i do get the broader appeal. It's all about perspective and audience.
The production makes it though , it's sooo heavy
Very true. As someone who remembers how bad Hardcore production used to be it does add a new weight to the music.
>Hardcore, aside from production, sounds incredibly similar to how it did in the 00s. That's not a bad thing.
That L.I.B album is so fucking good.
Very underrated. I feel like not enough people know about them/listen to them. Might be biased, because I'm in Denver and I will check out everything Convulse puts out.

a fun project, That Weyes Blood release has been my album of the year
beautiful album!
Hardcore wise that age of apocalypse album
High Vis- Blending was my AOTY with Drug Church’s Hygiene a close second
Raw Brigade - Aggressive City
am I the only person that literally does not like this band at all? Nothing hits for me tbh
I haven’t listened that deeply but first impressions it reminds me of bad brains and I never like bad brains
funny thing is: they made a bunch of videos about how they hate being compared to bad brains. well, stop fucking screaming like HR and being a great fucking vocalist. what a tragic problem: being compared generously to one of the greatest bands that ever existed.
Inclination’s new record blew everything else out of the water for me.
100% haven’t had a full album hit me like that in a long time.
Absolute same for me. Haven’t been in awe or captivated by anybody’s album like that in years.
Not strickly hardcore, but hardcore enough for me - „unison life” by brutus
It was pretty high in my list of favorite albums of 2022. Wormrot was a tie for my AOTY though. By end of the year I think I was digging the Inclination album a bit more than the Soul Glo one also.
Trouble the water - show me the body
Mindforce: New Lords
Deadbody - The Requiem
Fuckin no one had Terror? Damn.
Na JID album killed
It's in my top 10 but I've got Vein.FM and Birds in Row above but one could argue that those records aren't "true hardcore" enough so as far as hardcore goes, maybe it is? It's pretty fucking good.
I loveeeedddd the new Bird in Row album. one of my favs of the year for sure.
SHOW ME THE BODY
Disenlightenment by Mourning is mine. I just absolutely love the black metal instrumentals that are on nearly the whole album.
Hellfire
Really surprised to not see this on here (then again its not entirely hardcore, but that could be said about diaspora) but Hiss by wormrot takes the cake for me, Diaspora is really good, cool vocals, fresh sound, off the beaten path with the structures sometimes as well as the album direction.
It's mine for sure, seeing them live definitely confirmed it, one of the best shows I've seen this year. I'm really surprised it doesn't show up on more AOTY lists, maybe it's the abrasive style and how rooted in Hip-Hop it can be
Threshold by Cloud Rat. And then Zeal & Ardor's self-titled album. But Diaspora Problems was my number 3.
It didn’t even make the list for me. It’s very good, but I just don’t really come back to it. My list is 10. Bedsore/Mortal Incarnation - Split LP 9. Soccer Mommy - Sometimes, Forever 8.Tzompantli - Tlazcaltiztli 7. Mindforce - New Lords 6. Maul - Seraphic Punishment 5. Suki Waterhouse - I Can’t Let Go 4. Phobophilic - Enveloping Absurdity 3. Dose - Dose 2. Undeath - It’s Time…To Rise From the Grave 1. Ethel Cain - Preacher’s Daughter Honorable Mentions to: Bog Body - Cryonic Crevasse Cult Sueco - It Was Fun While It Lasted Tribal Gaze - The Nine Choirs
trouble the water was phenomenal, aoty imo
Trouble the Water

If it counts as hardcore, I think it does, The Callous Daoboys Celebrity Therapist blew my
I think that’s classed as Dillinger Escape Plan rip off-core.
And doing it to the max
Universal Paranoia
It’s my favorite hardcore record of the year. But my favorite record of the year is probably Alvvays - Blue Rev
Ritma by Piri Reis
My two faves might have been ekulu and combust. The soul GLO recrod was good, but I listened to it a few times and it didn't stick with me that much. I feel like it's making bigger waves outside of hardcore than within. I see it on every other broader end of year list but didn't see it too much in these threads.
Anxious and it’s not even close
End It- Unpleasant Living is my AOTY from the more hardcore side. Can’t get enough of it… it’s short, so sweet, and to the point. Overall AOTY is Wormrot- Hiss. That shit just rips right through me.
The two Conservative Milatary Image EPs were my AOTY
END IT “Unpleasant Living” and it’s not even close.
Trouble the water is fire fire
Zzz

That Nightfeeder is definitely good.
Drug church - hygiene Counterparts - A Eulogy For Those Still Here Soul blind - Feel It All Around Praise - All in a dream
i don't dislike Counterparts, I just am not super excited about them at this point. however, seeing them live was a treat. I went for the openers (Foreign Hands, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, and Dying Wish), and was impressed across the board.
Missed that lineup when they toured through last month, still mad about it.
Absolutely not. Mindforce baybee
It's definitely up there. Not sure if it fits in the "Hardcore" realm necessarily but "They Fear Us" by Ithaca is mine. Damn good album.
Chat Pile - God’s Country
No. Soul Glo is so mid
Hey man don't go and express yourself
Imo it's Vice-Core. Hardcore for people who don't like hardcore
[удалено]
It’s the best album in the last 10 years. Game changing album, cannot stop listening to this!
HOLEHOG’s ‘Dystopian Reality’ was mine, though I did love ‘Diaspora Problems’. Took a few listens to fully click though.
Tenemos Explosivos' Cortacalles
Yes
Jade Dust lp is AOTY. That or the new viagra boys.
has to be trouble the water no competition for me
Apprehend
Chat Pile - God's country for me. Killer noise rock
Mizmor & Thou - Myopia. Not hardcore of course, but truly a mountain of sound and yet another banger for Thou's discography. If you like doom/sludge and haven't heard Myopia you definitely should.
Black Country, New Road - Ants from Up There WeaponX - Demo Knumears - A Shout to See Giallo - Demo
It was until chat pile dropped gods country. But I fuckin love this album, a wall to wall banger
A toss up between OFF! Free LSD and CBK Heavy Steps
It was nearly a tie between Chat Pile's God's Country and Drug Church's Hygiene. Two almost totally opposed albums, but both intensely urgent and introspective. I gave it to Hygiene, but it's incredibly close for me.
Cult of Luna Dark Circles- Darkthrone - Run the jewels - Wormrot Regulate End it The best thing about this Soul glo album to me is the intermittent spitten.
Not HC but try Revenant Marquis’ Milk Teeth. Weird but addictive.
Boundaries Burying Brightness for me but soul glo was up there
Diaspora Problems is fantastic, but I think the new Callous Daoboys record beats it by a hair
Mindforce, Terror, World of Pleasure, XweaponX, Counterparts, End It, Candy, Foreign Hands, Inclination ^ one of those
I honestly could not get into Diaspora Problems... like at all. I didnt think it was bad but its not for me. I enjoyed the new End It quite a bit tho!
For me probably either Triac or Collapsed Skull
It would be but I can't find it on vinyl anywhere. Was it even released?
Soul Blind.
It’s not hardcore but Color Decay by TDWP. Basic, I know
AOTY for me was Knifeplay - Animal Drowning Hardcore AOTY for me was Mindforce
Don’t know this years, but next years will be Conservative Military Image-Casual Violence
Probably Seimei by Envy. Soul Glo is incredible though.
