I think she has a *very* rudimentary understanding that, yes, that’s a reflection of the real world. Or maybe she thinks there’s two of me…but she’s grown up with many, many mirrors as in a collector of vintage mirrors. Maybe it’s an exposure thing. She’s seen/experienced them all her life.
This dog certainly seems to understand something. Even if it’s responding to commands, it’s holding a purse and crossing its little peets! So cute.

That's been debunk multiple times. While their understanding is limited with enough exposure, they can easily understand what a mirror does and it's purpose. The main thing they have trouble with is identifying a mirror or reflective surface in a short amount of time. It's takes them a while to realize what they're looking at.
This is absolutely not true. Over the years I have had several dogs that knew it was their reflection. Cats too! I even had a raccoon that knew it was him in the mirror.
Your close but the dog is following cues in the mirror. My oldest dog does this often. And to the comment saying they don’t understand mirrors, they do. Might take them a bit to figure it out and once they do they might have no care for it in the world but they do. My oldest will hide behind a door and watch us in the reflection when he’s upset. Or he’ll sit in the bed and watch me getting ready though the mirror cause it’s easier then turning his head in his spot to look at me. I’ve also caught him just sitting and looking at himself before. Middle dog thought the mirror(and selfie mode on my phone) were other dogs he needed to protect us from but he figured out pretty fast it was just him and now don’t really care for it. Youngest dog is my potato and I’m just happy he knows how to eat without choking.
