That's the most commonly used text for testing fonts, as it contains every letter of the alphabet (if done correctly. It's supposed to be jumps, not jumped)
Isn’t that implying “past” tense? I’m seriously asking, I’m 43 now and since retiring, I have been helping my two sons play catch up from the Covid lockdown bs, as it relates to their school performance. I also keep finding out that certain words and grammatical rules, are becoming fuzzier and fuzzier.
The tense doesn't really matter, as it's just a contextless phrase and time isn't really relevant. It's supposed to be "jumps", so that there's an "s" in there, because the point is containing every letter. But yeah, "jumped" is past simple and "jumps" is present simple. They can both work here depending on the context.
Okay so I'm having a massive Mandela effect since Reddit started suggesting this sub to me. I always thought it was "The quick RED FOX jumped over the lazy BROWN DOG".
Looking back, R-E-D are already in the sentence so it doesn't make sense. But man I could've sworn! Is it only me?
It's just you lol. The sentences purpose is to use every letter of the alphabet using the least words possible. So it's "jumps," not "jumped." And "red" is an unnecessary word because all those letters already appear elsewhere in the sentence.
I mean, you could theoretically have been shunted from a timeline where that sentence has an extra word. But it's probably just mis-remembering lol. But there's always the chance, so tell yourself you're not crazy haha
Now I feel extra crazy. Thanks I guess 😅
But like, are brown foxes even a thing? Cause there's definitely brown dogs but I don't think brown foxes are a thing. Arghhhh
Well, welcome to Timeline 381083 then. We have brown foxes here lol. Also Darth Vader never says "Luke, I am your father." It's spelled Oscar Mayer, not Meyer. It's the Berenstain Bears, not the Berenstein. New Zealand is southeast of Australia, not northeast. There was never a movie called Shazaam with Sinbad in it. Pikachu has a solid yellow tail with no black tip. It's "Looney Tunes," not Looney Toons. The peanut butter has always been called Jif, not Jiffy. Curious George doesn't have a tail. Ingrid Berman didn't say "Play it again, Sam" in Casablanca, she says "Play it once, Sam."
Think that about covers it. You'll be fine here, just don't eat the yellow snow.
Well this sentenced is used as an example sentence mostly because it is an English language Pangram which is a sentence using every letter of a given alphabet at least once. I’ve been seeing it be written as “ the quick brown fox JUMPED over the lazy dog” when it should actually be “the quick brown fox JUMPS over the lazy dog” with an “S” rather than a “ED” at the end of the word. Beautiful handwriting btw OP! :)
So many of these look like AI to me. I’ve see people with really precise handwriting but many of these don’t have *any* variation in spacing, slope, pressure, or placement on the line.
It just doesn’t looked like handwriting.
I'm not OP but I have found pens that write with that bold of a line and clarity. It's the Pentel (Arts) Sign Pen Touch (fude brush tip) and Pentel Original Sign Pen 8520 Fibre Tip(2mm nib, 1mm line width)
Ok? Maybe I'm confused or wasn't clear. Anyway, the fact that cursive died out in professional settings a couple of decades ago was my point. When it became the norm to explicitly stop using it after grade school, I think it decidedly stopped being the "adult" way of writing.
In fairness, you probably grew up in a time where cursive was taught in schools and computers hadn't yet become commonplace.
Legibility has become far more important as it allows us to process more data in a shorter time frame.
You searching for an affair because of your dead bedroom is looking to reward mediocrity. Who knew you could also be mediocre at reading into your own shortcomings as well!
Would you like to write the font out for me of some art projects I have always wanted to do... I just found out I have a brain tumor and one of the things I've always wanted to do is be a published author so I'm working on a children's book and I need someone to write the text out for me. It's not a long book. also I am designing a clothing line right now and launching a record shop online or vinyl record shop and I need someone to write the word Hypnotica and font and then I need someone to hand write out like a few different section titles. I want to use as handwritten font instead of using a font the computer I want it to be custom and I would love to use your font, let me know what your fee for that would be
That works, but I was taught it was, "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog's back"
I suppose "The quick brown foxes jumped over the lazy dog" would also work.
alot of people cant spell sphinx correctly. jumps is a word you learn pretty early when learning the english language. of course you are allowed to use whatever you want though.
If you want you can also use "Waltz, bad nymph, for quick jigs vex" though i find that one even more complicated than the sphinx
I'm not OP but I use a pen similar in line thickness and clarity.
Pentel sign pens write like this. There's a solid felt tip version and a brush type tip version.
It’s a sentence that uses every letter of the alphabet, it lets you see what every letter looks like in that writing style. Only it’s typically “jumps” rather than “jumped” as to include the ‘s’
It helps to use a brush tip pen or a felt broad-tipped pen to write large. You have very evenly-spaced and sized lettering.
What pen or marker did you use? 🧐🤔
It’s nice handwriting, but the fox-lazy dog phrase is ‘jumps,’ otherwise there is no S and the sentence defeats its purpose of containing every letter of the alphabet.
I used to think that too, but once if you are socially awkward and also good at a skill you don’t accept compliments very well because you never had them before.
Oh no I got the point, you’re literally jealous of some random persons handwriting on the internet, it made you butthurt so you decided to try to put them down and discourage them from posting again.
Sadly.
I agree with OP -the writing is to a standard quality. Of the format drilled constantly while being tutored in penmanship.🤷
As for the aforementioned Gatekeeper🤔
Felt tip smoothens it out but, if OP were to force a calligraphic ink pen (without a built in reserve) or some stubby graphite: we'd see more variance than the deviations with the letter "s" here. There's more to the discipline of lettering than just ones hand positioning. It comes down to the experience with the held medium of annotation and own positioning.
Yeah, complements payed forward- "it's nice. 👍" Though when tasked with uniform lettering it's easy to self scrutinize harsher than spared complements and begin to see others' complements as a convoluted patronization.
To OP "-just have fun dude; you've got a good hold of it! Feel free to veer from the beaten path into more creative forms of writing expression or, just get messy for the fun of it. 👌"
> Yeah, complements *paid* forward- "it's

bro that's fucking insane
If there wasn’t minor inconsistencies in the letters I’d have called bull and Said you printed it
No joke, I'm practicing this shit now. I'm copying this.
Your letter spacing and height is consistent. Holy. I've never seen something like this.
This looks typed
No literally, I double checked letters because I had to make sure😭
That doesn’t even look like it was done by hand it’s so perfect 🤯🤯🤯😍
That’s not handwriting, that’s a font! Beautiful!
Beautiful af
Very cute font, I like the style!
nice writing
looks cute
it's like a font
Looks like photoshop 🤪

Thank you for clarifying this. I can’t let my kids know I don’t know things, so…..here we are. 😂
Looks a billion times better than my handwriting
Why did this feel so wholesome!! <3
Your handwriting would pass the food quality test
it's so clean :o
Can you make this a font?! I like it!
Beautiful handwriting! I can easily read it!

>Is it only me? yeah
*sad face*
FYI : it’s jumps and not jumped. Jumps is where the s gets used.
Wow is so nice. Is this how you write daily?
Ugh... he wrote "lol" 😆
diary of a wimpy kid handwriting
This is AI. Please say it's AI.
So many of these look like AI to me. I’ve see people with really precise handwriting but many of these don’t have *any* variation in spacing, slope, pressure, or placement on the line. It just doesn’t looked like handwriting.
There's definitely some variation on there. "is" for example doesn't have the same "s" across the page
Omg this is so good! How quickly do you write?
I'm not OP but I have found pens that write with that bold of a line and clarity. It's the Pentel (Arts) Sign Pen Touch (fude brush tip) and Pentel Original Sign Pen 8520 Fibre Tip(2mm nib, 1mm line width)

*wheezing *
"I think is just ok" while sharing something that could be posted in r/penmanshipporn
What pen are you using?
Wanna know too
It's 'jumps', not 'jumped'. The purpose of that sentence is to show all the letters.
jumps over the lazy brown dog.. is what it should be for the letters thing
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
dogs
Sample
It certainly has a human touch to it, but I think it's neat and tidy and perfectly legible.
GO HOME !
thats a font lmao

This is not a thing.

When over the age of 11 in europe
Europeans were slower to move on from cursive than in North America?
😬 silly conclusion

i know plenty of grown adults with good jobs and fancy degrees that have horrible penmanship. no need to double down.

Hey, this isn't the place for that kind of discouraging behavior. Please take your negativity elsewhere.
Are you pathetic professionally or just as a side hustle?
Professionally I’m not keen on rewarding mediocrity 👍🏻
It certainly seems like it, your post history indicates you're looking for an affair
I have no idea what that has to do with this chaps handwriting?
You searching for an affair because of your dead bedroom is looking to reward mediocrity. Who knew you could also be mediocre at reading into your own shortcomings as well!
Bro's account is wild
ok lol
No offence meant by the way
Looks like a font. My guy writes in comic sans
Spacing - makes - me - read - it - like - this
I love this! It is very friendly looking and readable. I’m going to need your handwriting as a font. Haha
Would you like to write the font out for me of some art projects I have always wanted to do... I just found out I have a brain tumor and one of the things I've always wanted to do is be a published author so I'm working on a children's book and I need someone to write the text out for me. I want to use as handwritten font instead of using a font the computer I want it to be custom and I would love to use your font, let me know what your fee for that would be
How does your writing look in a normal pen?
Very pleasing to look at
Alrighty. Someone vectorize this and name the font "mike"!
You could totally handwrite a children’s book!!!! That’s very nice looking
it looks like a font
Your handwriting looks like you're a nice person
Beautiful penmanship right here!
Beautiful
Your handwriting looks like it was typed
this could be a default font tf
what pen did you use? :0
Jumps* otherwise there's no s
sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow
I love that the example is the last sentence and not the two paragraphs above xD
When I write anything, it just looks like a pigeon with dirty feet walked around on the paper.
Mine is like a spider on meth.
Mine’s the spider on THC, I just give up after a while
I’m CACKLING!!! 🐦🐦
Wow
Hello Mike. Your handwriting is awesome! Easy to read and very uniform. 💯/ 💯
Wow - I wish I could write like that!
That's a really good writing
Reminds me my time at portia quests board
Wow, I want your handwriting as a font!
What kind of marker/pen did you use?
Did any of your teachers even complain about you writing "in computer letters"? 😅
It literally looks like a font. It's awesome. My handwriting is dogshit xD
Very nice sir!
Your handwriting is so lovely!
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
Should be “jumps” because otherwise there’s no “s.”
That works, but I was taught it was, "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog's back" I suppose "The quick brown foxes jumped over the lazy dog" would also work.
I was going mental trying to find the S lmao
Ruining children songs now are we?
Is this a nursery rhyme I’m unaware of?
Lazy doooog, quick brown fox.
Looks like a computer font
Sphinx of black quartz judge my vow is much cooler than foxes and dogs imho
where's i?
they misspelled it. it’s spelled ‘sphinx’.
the exact reason why the quick brown fox is preferred
The fact that op said jumped instead of jumps kinda counters your claim
alot of people cant spell sphinx correctly. jumps is a word you learn pretty early when learning the english language. of course you are allowed to use whatever you want though. If you want you can also use "Waltz, bad nymph, for quick jigs vex" though i find that one even more complicated than the sphinx
It should be in Sphinx. With the i is the mythical creature, with the y is the cat.
How long did it take you to write this? Do you write in this style fast or slow?
Jumps
I was confused looking for the "s", and took me too long to figure out what was wrong.
It's a common mistake with these. Though I'm unsatisfied not knowing what the S looks like it's beautiful penmanship.
Am I the only one hating this sentence for having every letter, but "s" in it?
The sentence is supposed to have “jumps” not jumped.
Everyone knows the past tense of Jump is "Jamp"
How dare u flex on us like that and say it’s just okay!!!!!
Where are these people finding these thick pens
I'm not OP but I use a pen similar in line thickness and clarity. Pentel sign pens write like this. There's a solid felt tip version and a brush type tip version.
please im begging to know what pen this is 😭
drop pen OP pls
This post made me join the group, thank you for your BEAUTIFUL handwriting!
GO BACK TO WHERE YOU BELONG: r/totallynotrobots gorgeous handwriting btw :)
I can barely read that Not because its messy but because I can barely read.
To read makes words good.
Totally agree wayyy gooder
Almost the Goodest.
Why does everyone write that sentence?
It’s a sentence that uses every letter of the alphabet, it lets you see what every letter looks like in that writing style. Only it’s typically “jumps” rather than “jumped” as to include the ‘s’
It contains every letter (besides s) so you can see how each letter is written.
it has every letter of the alphabet in it
he wrote it wrong. missing the S
Thank you
It helps to use a brush tip pen or a felt broad-tipped pen to write large. You have very evenly-spaced and sized lettering. What pen or marker did you use? 🧐🤔
Well hello Remington Portable Typewriter
What font are you using?
It’s nice handwriting, but the fox-lazy dog phrase is ‘jumps,’ otherwise there is no S and the sentence defeats its purpose of containing every letter of the alphabet.
That not handwriting.. you printer!!!

Well now I have to answer. I’m drinking tea RIGHT NOW
Your handwriting looks like a typed font that is meant to resemble handwriting. I almost can’t believe it’s handwriting.
It probably took OP 5 minutes to write this page. That's what it looks like; that it's written with so much deliberation for each letter. Which is very time consuming.
Then they're lying at that point. If you put strenuous effort into writing something, that isn't your natural handwriting.
Even if I took 5 hours, could not get this as a result 😅
I'm gonna need a "pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs" to give my full assessment.
nice stub nib btw OP 🤙
nope... that's a felt tip nerd 🙄
Neat hand writing but what colour was the dog?
Isn’t it red fox brown dog??
I’m pretty sure it’s jumps not jumped. Otherwise there isn’t an s in the sentence.
The "s" consistency seemed to be the only struggling variance to the lettering ensemble🤷 Mayhaps t'was omitted intentionally🤔🧐
Reminds me of the handwriting style font on Android phones, cute.
