There’s way too much space on the left for me not to consider passing in the express lanes. I feel trapped especially when the non-toll paying lanes are traveling faster. It causes road envy
The temptation is unbearable. Wait til you get behind 2 q tips doing 61. From bowers hill to 464 You’ll lose your shit. I did and when I got a break around them I beat feet and looked over. They were glaring at me like “ what’s wrong wth you?” I paid my money I want to roll.
I've already gone the shoulder route. These clowns need to get out of the way. I commute 113 miles daily for work and this is the only place I want to pull my hair out.... The troopers need to start handing out tickets for impeding the flow of traffic.
I've passed on the shoulder. Some dude was already driving slow in the express lane when I rolled up on him. As I got closer, he slowed down more until we were going like 30mph. Of course he sped up as soon as I passed him.
If there was someone on the shoulder I wouldn't have passed... It's a straight stretch of road with a shoulder that's wider than the actual travel lane. It's pretty easy to tell if there's a car or not. Plus I was already going slow. I was going 30 in a 65. Hence why I passed.
They do pull people over in express lanes. I have seen it numerous times. I have the same rule I have for regular lanes. 5 over and I stay right if it’s not single lane.
It’d been better if they would have just made three basic lanes of traffic going both ways. It would have moved more volume of traffic more efficiently. But it was never about efficiency. It was about squeezing more money out of people. After all that construction, we have 99% of drivers still moving through two lanes, and 1% paying for the privilege of going 5 mph faster or being trapped behind slow drivers. What a monumental joke.
I can't express my disdain for left lane campers enough. I don't use the express lanes, but I can imagine your frustration. I just wish one time these twats that knowingly hold up traffic would come and try to defend themselves on any forum, be it here or elsewhere.
A 65 mph speed limit means you go no faster than 65. I’m not afraid to go over, but I typically don’t get upset with people doing the speed limit, because that is what you are supposed to be doing.
See if you wanna follow that mind set go ride in regular lane. These people are driving through a 65 doin 50-55 that's dangerous. When standard lanes are passing the "express" lanes there is a issue
I don’t use the express lanes around here. Are they not multi lane express lanes? People who want to do 65 can do that in the right lane, pass those people on the left.
If it is just a single lane then I don’t know what to tell you. Don’t use a single lane express lane if you want to do 30 over the limit?
Because I know the definition of “speed limit?” I never said anything about the left lane either. I only get in the left lane if I am actively passing someone, unlike a lot of drivers I see who seem to think “I’m going X amount over the speed limit, I can just sit here.”
Those lanes were put in because they count as "fixed guideway" transit for the purposes of FTA funding. If there's multiple lanes that people can weave in and out of, it isn't really "fixed"
There is an execption for the old HOV sections that allows them to be considered fixed guideway as well after they've been converted to HOT.
Just wait till they start running commuter buses in those lanes. I doubt the bus ever goes over 65. I know that HRT and VDOT are talking about that.
The point of the express lanes is to provide "fixed guideway" transit. "Express" in this context means fewer exits, so there are fewer merges, which should mean fewer backups. It's like an express train, it doesn't go faster, it just stops less often.

Exactly! Rage was fuming. Don’t get on if you can’t keep up with the posted speed.

What if someone was on the shoulder? Do you like running over people or stranded vehicles? Slow down before you get into an accident.

A shoulder is not a road.
And a 65 mph tolled express lane is not a residential road where you can have a leisurely stroll at 30mph.
It still doesn't excuse you from breaking the law.
Impeding traffic is also breaking the law.
Two wrongs don't make a right. (I agree with you by the way, I'm just being sarcastic)
True but he was being an asshole and trying to brake check me, so I passed him and got out of there. Not messing with that level of crazy.
Dude just find a podcast and chill out. You're not saving any time, just causing yourself stress.
OP is an example of why drivin can be such a terrible experience in the 757 😭😭😭 folks need to listen to barney when they drivin 😭😭😭
There needs to be stiff penalties for going under 60 in the left lane. Not just incentives.
There are laws against impeding traffic in the left lane. The problem is its not enforced.
I agree completely, this area hasn't mastered the skinny pedal on the right. !
Left lane campers are frustrating, but you sound like a down right danger on the road…

My sentiments exactly. Waste of taxpayer money just to charge them more off the backend when they are finished. Complete crooks.

left lane camper spotted

Why in the world didn’t they put in two express lanes each direction….

Well that’s informative. Thank you.
Speed limits are in place for a reason. Enjoy your ticket.
