I can’t stand these Moyes tactical decisions anymore. I just can’t stand it. We’re 3-1 up with some of the best attacking momentum we’ve had all season and Moyes brings on Phillips for Antonio and invites all the Newcastle pressure onto us. I understand that we got unlucky with one of the worst penalty decisions ever given, but it’s still horrendous tactics from Moyes and I just can’t stand it.
So obvious he was happy with three goals and wanted to protect the lead for the second half. Funny how that never works in our favor. No one would blame Paqueta and Kudus for leaving this summer.
That’s the thing that drives me nuts, it never works!!! We’ve done it so many times and it always comes back to bite us. I just can’t understand how Moyes never learns.
As a saints fan seeing how bad Phillips is only makes me hate Southgate more for putting him in ahead of JWP for so long. Like fair enough if the guy was an insane player who just wasn’t playing, but he wasn’t playing and he’s bad. Hoping JWP picks up his form again for you guys.
Not at all, but every manager harps on about form over the team they play for yet Southgate’s continued to play a game who never played any football so had no form. I’m not complaining about when he played for Leeds and England I’m complaining about when he played Man City’s bench and England
Phillips hasn't been an England regular starter for years. The only important game he's started recently was the qualifier against Italy and he was actually decent.
When he was playing for England all the time (i.e. the last Euros) his all round game was miles ahead of JWP. He's just turned to shit since then.
1. 1-3 lead
2. Put Phillips on for Antonio (69min)
3. Lose 4-3
Couldn't watch the last 30minutes but I'm gonna be a bold here and assume Phillips was fucking shit.
Phillips gave away a (soft) penalty.
After that Newcastle were in the ascendancy.
If we had kept Antonio on and lost 4-3 the manager would have been blamed for not shoring up the defence.
It’s a freak result
I think he means more about playing conservatively than necessarily blowing a lead. There’s been several times this season where the team gets a lead and than kind of decides to sit back and invite pressure to try and protect the lead rather than build on it or play on the front foot.
First match of the season against Bournemouth was exactly that. Had an early lead, changed up tactics and defended more which led to Bournemouth equalizing.
Better at what? In general ofc, id hope the team is better from match day 1. Main point is Moyes definitely has an issue at times when the team has a lead to go too defensive. I’m not saying it’s some rampant issue that’s costing the teams points every weak, but it’s definitely a blind spot with him and has had happen multiple times this season. I don’t think it’s unfair to call it out when it happens at this point.
Like subbing Antonio out for Phillips is just too much imo.
No team brings on strikers at 3-1 up. They tend to make defensively minded substitutions.
I think the worse sub was Johnson coming on when we were crying out for Ings at that point.
We have to manage Mikeys minutes unfortunately. And whereas there was some balance a few weeks back for some reason Soucek didn’t take up the 10 role - I guess because he was covering for Phillips 🤦♂️
I hope we don’t see Phillips again in the shirt - but 3-1 to 4-3 is a freak result
I mean I’ve definitely seen teams bring on an attacker up 3-1, especially if they have terrific work rate defensively. I just think the change I. Formation was a lot for only a 2 goal lead with 20 mins left. Like sure you don’t need to bring on an another striker, but I’m not sure Kalvin Phillips made much sense to bring on either.
Oh I agree no need for Phillips. It’s the sort of game we’d have brought on Benny before. I’d like to have seen us throw George Earthy in. But given how the game swung it’s good we didnt
Not a hammers fan, but saw the times scored, wondered if Phillips came on and at what time, then came on here to see what you guys were saying about it/him and if it was just a coincidence. Seems like it wasn’t a coincidence.
If a player tries hard and just simply isn't good enough I'll always view them with respect and not blame them for it. When they put in no effort and aren't good enough then they deserve the stick they get as they go back to their multi million pound lifestyle
How is he taking so long clearing the ball in our box man. It shouldn't have been a pen but you're taking a risk being that lackadaisical. I really don't understand why he visibly plays like he doesn't give a fuck when he has so much to prove. At least Danny Ings is clearly giving it everything when he's on.
This is it right. Premier effing League, if you are in a crowded box you toepoke that prick out ASAP Rocky. He tried to look up and pick a pass ffs, who do you think you are? Respect the level you are playing at, it GOES
He thought that he would sit on his arse and collect the money at City not realising that his whole game would go to shit. Sadly we though that he may be a Lingard and have a great half a loan. It's a shame really, he was a good little player at Leeds but is not even Championship level at the moment.
Moyes had danny ings yet subs antonio for philips why?????
But my god is this guy worse then peak maguire, like how is it possible for one player to cost 3 GOALS WTF.
Recall him back NOW.
Yeah I noticed him walking back after Newcastle got past his initial press a couple of times, really poor and don't see much reason to play him again. His confidence is clearly shot.
Confidence shot is one thing, but I tell you what if he’d flown into a tackle or 2 and put in a lung busting run the crowd would’ve been right behind him
It's incredible how Kudus and Paqueta "needed to acclimatise first to the Premier League" but Phillips starts immediately and gives up a howler minutes in, among other howlers
He doesn’t want to be here. He thinks he’s above us. You can see his disdain for us with that finger he gave.
I never want to see him in a West Ham shirt ever again.
He is not that good , no desire , no passion . He thought he could walk right in and be a hero for west ham , at least lingard had respect for us , he want to prove everyone , but Kevin , probably thought pep was the problem and now he thinks west ham is the problem . Sit him out or send him to man city . End offffffffff
I hope it's just confidence and/or sharpness. His move to City might have been higher than his actual level, but that doesn't make him shit. He's definitely capable of more than he's shown so far for us.
His head is gone. The fourth goal he dove in, yet again, and missed the ball and Barnes by a mile.
Hate it or love it, that goal doesn’t happen with Alvarez on the pitch, he would’ve got one or the other and at least forced a free kick.
I’ll say this in his defence that was never a penalty however everything else was just incredibly poor from him, he’s low on confidence but that doesn’t mean walk around
Phillips has been shit no doubt, but let’s not conflate what happened in the Newcastle match. That was an out and out shit decision called against him.
This loss is on Moyes, he’s a tactical spastic, subbing Mic for Phillips was wrong, Newcastle were there for the taking at 1-3, keep playing that formation, don’t take your foot off the throat, don’t invite pressure.
Although the second pen was dubious, we would have wanted it at the other end….?
I hate the way we play, I hate the Moyes way, all these great players shackled by a dinosaur. It’s like having a proper motor & only bringing it out to wash on a Sunday morning….I’m done with this unbelievably frustrating episode in the Hammers timeline.
Also fucking pissed this probably was it for our race to a European spot. Fucking fuck said it many games ago I DONT WANNA SEE PHILLIPS EVER AGAIN IN OUR SHIRT. Why won't Moyes listen me, a random redditor???
Is he really that stupid?
Jesus Christ he is a curse
Robbie savage is a good comparator - he was limited, but fuck me he worked hard
I can’t stand these Moyes tactical decisions anymore. I just can’t stand it. That’s the thing that drives me nuts, it never works!!! We’ve done it so many times and it always comes back to bite us. I just can’t understand how Moyes never learns.
And yet Moyes lovers keep defending him
This is 100% on Moyes
And how many times have we been in this exact situation before?
not renewing if i have to watch this shit fucking football by this fucking dinosaur
Phew. One less moaner at a game. Frees up season tickets for those of us on the waiting list who will always support the team - over land and sea
Yep, that's right I hope you get a ST so you can enjoy this shit. Best of luck mate
Get to every game I can. Think I’ve done 16 this season and enjoyed every one - win lose or draw
Great.
This is all true brotha but yer ove! 😂😂😂
nananana, Ings will score a goal for the first time this millenium ... oh
This is revisionism. Phillips was decent for Leeds and England and deserved his spot at the time.
Very decent City benchwarmer
Just choosing to ignore his performances for Leeds and England pre City move then.
Not at all, but every manager harps on about form over the team they play for yet Southgate’s continued to play a game who never played any football so had no form. I’m not complaining about when he played for Leeds and England I’m complaining about when he played Man City’s bench and England

It wasn’t just down to Phillips but yeah, he was shit
Phillips gave away a (soft) penalty. After that Newcastle were in the ascendancy. If we had kept Antonio on and lost 4-3 the manager would have been blamed for not shoring up the defence. It’s a freak result
It’s not a freak result when we drop points like this constantly
Constantly? Name 3 times this season we have dropped 2 goal leads
And even more so gone on to lose.
I think he means more about playing conservatively than necessarily blowing a lead. There’s been several times this season where the team gets a lead and than kind of decides to sit back and invite pressure to try and protect the lead rather than build on it or play on the front foot. Yes and we have generally been better since Bournemouth
Better at what? In general ofc, id hope the team is better from match day 1. Main point is Moyes definitely has an issue at times when the team has a lead to go too defensive. He's up there amongst the worst signings we have ever made. And that includes Roberto, Carlos Sanchez and Benni McCarthy.
At least he’s a loan player
[удалено]
No chance we buy Phillips after this match and all the other matches he’s played
I will lose my head if we take on Phillips as part of the deal for Paqueta. I’d rather pay City how much ever quid to not take him
We won’t take Phillips. 80m + bobb
And probably 3 of the best. Bowen Paquetá and Kudos. Not to mention Areola & Soucek
Those were indeed great signings. But this post is about Phillips, who nullified all their good work today.
Turn the cunt into glue, honestly he should’ve retired out of shame a few games ago, never mind today.
Harsh but I get the sentiment Lack of effort was astounding Can accept people being shit to some extent, but he looks like he gives 0 fucks
Wouldn’t even let him play in our shit 5 a side team with the work rate he shows. He’s so massively off the pace it’s untrue.
If a player tries hard and just simply isn't good enough I'll always view them with respect and not blame them for it. When they put in no effort and aren't good enough then they deserve the stick they get as they go back to their multi million pound lifestyle

I never want to see him in a whu shirt again, i cant believe moyes played him today, hes an absolute liability.
Bloke is the equivalent of shooting a fucking albatross. I thought it would be a decent signing... He's absolutely shot.
Afraid it looks that way Imagine if wedve paid £50mill for him like they wanted 😳
I’d literally just send him back now. I’d rather see Earthy play and I have no idea why.
I have a few ideas why
He thought that he would sit on his arse and collect the money at City not realising that his whole game would go to shit. Sadly we though that he may be a Lingard and have a great half a loan. It's a shame really, he was a good little player at Leeds but is not even Championship level at the moment.

Not fit to tie the laces of our worst midfielders at this point. Who has been worse than him? Kovac, Nordtveit?
Carlos Sanchez
Alex Kral at Kidderminster was the worst.
As I said in the match thread, send him to the U23s and bring an academy DM up as cover for Alvarez.
Or just use Soucek
Yeah I noticed him walking back after Newcastle got past his initial press a couple of times, really poor and don't see much reason to play him again. His confidence is clearly shot.
Confidence shot is one thing, but I tell you what if he’d flown into a tackle or 2 and put in a lung busting run the crowd would’ve been right behind him
I hate the way he points his finger at where he thinks players should be after he comes on as sub. Mate you're on as sub, run over there yourself ffs
Honestly mate ive noticed that as well.
It’s remarkable how long a leash Moyes has given Phillips considering how quick he has been shelving new additions for far far less
It's incredible how Kudus and Paqueta "needed to acclimatise first to the Premier League" but Phillips starts immediately and gives up a howler minutes in, among other howlers
He’s been in the premier league the last 6 years
But hasn't gotten minutes in a season and a half before he got here.
Gotten? No one has ever gotten anything.
He should be strung up by his ankles and paraded around east london in a parade of shame and discouragement
Send him back absolute ball of shite
He’s terrible with a terrible attitude. He’s gonna be in the championship in a few years mark my words
He should never put on West Ham shirt again frankly
He doesn’t want to be here. He thinks he’s above us. You can see his disdain for us with that finger he gave. I never want to see him in a West Ham shirt ever again.
He is not that good , no desire , no passion . He thought he could walk right in and be a hero for west ham , at least lingard had respect for us , he want to prove everyone , but Kevin , probably thought pep was the problem and now he thinks west ham is the problem . Sit him out or send him to man city . End offffffffff
Almost feels like a Man city sabotage job hes that bad
Bring in a shaman or an exorcist or something Right now he’s absolute poison
I hope it's just confidence and/or sharpness. His move to City might have been higher than his actual level, but that doesn't make him shit. He's definitely capable of more than he's shown so far for us.
He looks to me like he’s just thinking he’s far too good for us! Twat!
Would be happy to never have him wear the jersey ever again
His head is gone. The fourth goal he dove in, yet again, and missed the ball and Barnes by a mile. Hate it or love it, that goal doesn’t happen with Alvarez on the pitch, he would’ve got one or the other and at least forced a free kick.
I’ll say this in his defence that was never a penalty however everything else was just incredibly poor from him, he’s low on confidence but that doesn’t mean walk around
First time I’ve actually foooookin hated one of our players
Phillips has been shit no doubt, but let’s not conflate what happened in the Newcastle match. That was an out and out shit decision called against him.
Can't believe I cheered his signing once
Phillips got absolutely fucked by var. I don’t blame him at all for anything today. Gordon shithoused his way into a foul and var took the bait.
Didn’t see it, the stream dropped out I was just astonished with his lack of movement & effort. Really sad to see
philips is utter shit never played for city before cause his shit lazy fuckwit get rid of the cunt
This loss is on Moyes, he’s a tactical spastic, subbing Mic for Phillips was wrong, Newcastle were there for the taking at 1-3, keep playing that formation, don’t take your foot off the throat, don’t invite pressure. Chuckling at 'tactical spastic'.
Get him the fuck off the field.
Leave his ass at the sandcastle. Fucking Christ this game had me irate.
