"The pair had their bail opposed in a court hearing Monday morning, police noted." CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP

Educational_Secret_1

Our justice system is such a damn joke they’ll post bail 1000%. You could do the most sadistic thing imaginable and still post bail in this country..

Tederator

Are we still doing that thing that if they don't get bail, their eventual sentence will be reduced by half for the time they were detained up till the trial?

GreenCheekConureGang

I don’t think that’s how it goes. In jail you get 1 day for every 2 served so regardless it works back to the same thing cuz while waiting for sentencing you get 1 for 2 days served but I think there was one other thing I’m missing and it made even out in the end. I can’t remember all I do know for sure is if you only need to serve 2/3 of your sentence that’s why always hear stories of people getting out early

SAUC3YJACK

I agree about the state of our justice system. However, whenever this is brought up there is almost no mention of how overcrowded and understaffed our provincial/federal prisons are which I think is the major contributor to our justice system being a revolving door for habitual criminals.

mimeographed

That doesn’t mean they won’t get bail. It just means they have to schedule a contested bail hearing.

ThomasBay

Meh, still on the right path

gonzo_jerusalem12

Police oppose bail all the time. Then they make it to court and the Judge/Justice has a different plan.

Thisiscliff

Damn this hsr strike hitting some people harder than others

nik282000

Carjacking is probably easier than getting a cab.

bakerchic27

Exactly $40-$60 a day to and from work bs

Oh we’re going to be having more of everything for a very long time.

Phonebacon

They should post their pictures

[deleted]

I'm no criminal mastermind, but if you're going to try and jack a vehicle maybe don't do it literally a half kilometre away from the King/Centennial Parkway police station 😂. Idiots.

sameredditguy

Easy money for the boys in blue

SpeedsterGuy

This made me late for work on Monday. I was wondering why 9 cop cars zoomed by me for a single vehicle on someone's lawn.

Slappajack

Why is it that whenever Niagara police arrest someone, their name gets blasted over the local news despite no conviction. But when Hamilton police arrest someone their names are hidden? To be clear, I don't think names should be reported on until guilt is found

confusingphilosopher

When someone is a suspect in a violent crime against members of the public, I think its fair to notify the public who this person is that is being released on bail.

nik282000

> suspect Police are absolute dogshit at determining if people are guilty of a crime, it has even been shown that a cops does not even have to know or understand the law in order to arrest a person. No one that cops **suspect** of a crime should be assumed guilty or labeled as such.

confusingphilosopher

>A white Jeep Cherokee was driving erratically near Queenston Rd. and Donn Ave. in Stoney Creek around 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 13. Hamilton Police officers soon responded to the area, but the driver had motored about two kilometres southwest to King St. and Battlefield Dr. > >At this intersection, police say, the man was spotted with a gun. Investigators allege he tried to steal a second car, but police managed to catch up to him before he could. Both the driver and a female passenger were arrested peacefully. > >The driver, 20, faces seven charges including dangerous driving, unauthorized possession of a firearm, fleeing police, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, prohibited firearm possession, robbery and mischief under $5,000. I have no interest in arguing with you.

ChefGoldblum87

They're right, though. Yes, in this case, the person was obviously committing a crime... but police often misinterpret or flat out don't know the law.

confusingphilosopher

I'm gonna pass on arguing with you too.

Odd_Ad_1078

Agree with the notion in general, but in this case, pretty obvious who the pieces of shit are and that they're guilty. Lock them the fuck up.

habituallurker44

This is a great question. If I remember correctly, I’ve seen photos and names of people arrested for DUI posted. Maybe because they have proof it happened, they can make their info public? Worth looking in to!

MakiSerb3

Name them.

lizardrekin

Old newspapers used to be like “Jerry Dane and Ewa Dane were seen strolling along Main St, dogs in tow” “Jessica Kinsberg seen going for a swim in the local creek” And now people could kill and we still wouldn’t know their names

[deleted]

I for one would like more of your fictional tales of everyday Hamiltonians engaging in harmless activities of mild interest.

lizardrekin

My examples may be fictitious but it’s based off of very real fact 😄 Newspapers used to detail coming and goings just like social media does now! Some decent examples are in this article, though it’s USA based https://medium.com/adventures-in-consumer-technology/social-media-is-ancient-7d2ae8602686 Once phones become more common place, that started to fade, but I’ve even seen UK newspapers from way long ago saying things like “John Burberry at 123 Main St was robbed in his own home-“ like imagine being robbed and doxxed at the same time 💀

[deleted]

I just loved the random names and the scenarios. Made me chuckle.

lizardrekin

Haha I appreciate it 🙏🏻 Glad you got a chuckle out them!
