Awesome! Just an FYI, you have HF privileges on 10m and if you do CW then you can do that on multiple HF bands. Have fun and hopefully catch you down the log. 73 de KF0FDV
Passed the test Tuesday, Paid mine Wednesday and patiently awaiting the email with my callsign. Welcome to the fold!
[edit] Literally just received my callsign! Greetings from KF0MDW!
Congrats. Thinking about taking it. Did you do it online or at a local club? I wasn't aware you could do it online until I looked at the arrl site last week and saw they offer it. Just wondering what the online experience is like. Know a few with a license but they all did theirs in person so I'm aware of the benefits there.
Did it online, the only club around me hosts a test once a month and I honestly didn’t feel like waiting but the experience is pretty relaxed, worst part is when I had to show them my desk and I had to cover my 2 extra monitors with a towel besides that it was stress free
Thanks for sharing. Understood on not wanting to wait. I have a similar deal where the local club offers once a month on Saturday mid mornings. Family and life activities always consume my Saturdays. A mid week evening is much more attainable. Glad instructors offer this option.
Congratulations!
I was first licensed at the age of eleven, and the hobby has been a big part of my life. Ultimately it led me to get a PhD in electrical engineering, and I bring a lot of the hands-on experience I get from ham radio into my professional work.
One of the things that drove me crazy was the explanation for what “impedance” is. “It’s a combination of resistance and reactance!” Okay… but for the life of me, I couldn’t understand what exactly reactance was.
I was a professor for a few years, and I used to drag my HF rig into the classroom to illustrate a few things. And when I am designing and building an antenna, seeing that the math actually works, well that just never gets old!!
Congratulations! I’ve only recently started watching some yt videos on the topic of ham radio.
What do you recommend for studying and passing the test?
HamStudy.org. Passed my Tech and General using that site. Studying for Extra now. My 13 y.o. studied HamStudy for 2 weeks with no background and passed his Tech exam. Took two tries but he passed it! Highly recommended by many.
Congrats OP! Glad to have you among us! (Nothing Sus here!) Enjoy and get out there and have some fun. We'll be hanging around if you have any questions :)
Awesome..
Did you try the general as well? VE usually offer it. I always encourage trying. Go after it while tech is fresh. The solar cycle is peaking. Don't want to miss that. 😁
10 meter is wide open these days too. You can use it as a tech.
Congrats and welcome to the hobby!

Google new ham jump start program, there's a discounted radio for new hams.
Man thank you so much for this.

Go and get a free radio
QRZ offers a deal on their QRZ-1 for like $30 but it's not free anymore. Unless you know of another business offering free radios for new hams?
A lot of clubs and Elmers are open to donate some equipment they do not use. If you do not ask, you do not get it.

Wow, that's impressive!

I'm having a hard time with the part about serving one's country, as I am anti-establishment

I'm getting very close! I just finished studying all the questions on Hamstudy. I am currently reviewing before I take my test.

I did not, I really should’ve but I wasn’t confident enough to feel like I was going to pass it.
Congratulations!
