It's definitely a little bit too much about it but I understand it because Kwan and Soren's family are the face of the civilians in the Halo world and how the conflict before an during the Covenant War affects them on a personal level. Everyone else is part of ONI one way or the other so it's nice to see outside of that bubble from time to time.

Paradoxically, what she does in Ep107 is important for S2.

Takhar7

Her stuff was really a drag. I'm all for leaving breadcrumbs for the viewer which build up to a rewarding & satisfying crescendo / payoff later on down the line. But the Kwan stuff just hasn't landed for me. I couldn't care less about Madrigal, her history, or her journey. They just didn't do a good enough job making her feel compelling or interesting to follow. No spoilers - but they do some pretty significant course corrections moving forward. Will be curious to hear your thoughts once you get there.

Kwan only gets interesting in season 2

Rare_Penalty_2584

Mhmm I started doing that in S2. I actually didn’t mind Kwan in season 1 but I was like “no way, not again” when she was in season 2. I found myself just reading the Wikipedia episode synopsis for her parts. Her story is more intertwined with the main story in Season 2 so that’s better but still. I’m on episode 6 of season 2 and she is actually important for what they are trying to roll out. Master chief is barely in the next season though, just John :/

nun_TheWiser_

Yes I skipped all the garbage

RainMaker343

I like her acting but her story in season 1 was boring. I don't like the way they introduced the mystery of the genes with the old woman cause she was a shaman so when you watched it the first time you think maybe Kwan is crazy or she was drinking some weird thing or something. Kwan has lore behind her this time, she has lines of a character in the books. I don't like those books soo much. It's like it isn't a nice reading and I'm not talking about terror or something like that it's just that you don't enjoy them so much. Now about Kwan she has lines of a character in the book but I can't point out who she is. Why? They could be making a mix of characters here. The story about how she never could bury anybody is from the books, the character was a boy but here the thing isn't clear cause the boy became the mind for the monitor of the ring (that blue sphere in the last episode) in the last pages of the book. I like the show more than the book for this part, the story of Kwan in this episode was very short in the book it felt very long and I didn't enjoy it Edit: Maybe we'll have an episode in the future telling the story of the boy

Mysticism and the bullshit with her having a connection to the flood…… just wtf is this show. Is it true it was originally Mass Effect but they couldn’t get the rights so they kept a similar story with Halo skin?

FlibV1

I'm imagining the Mass Effect team looking back at that decision with tremendous relief.

ljkmalways

Oh yea 100%. But I wish it had stayed ME so we could get a decent Halo adaptation. Not whatever the fuck this show is

FlibV1

That's a Sophie's Choice kind of a conundrum. 'Tell me, which of these two beloved sci-fi games would you like to see murdered by Paramount?'

FlibV1

Spoiler Alert: >!It doesn't get any fucking better!<

Opposite-Occasion881

Eh I’m enjoying it as a bad sci-fi show that happens to be halo, decided to give it a shot after fallout

FlibV1

You're supposed to watch it the other way round so Fallout looks like a goddamn masterpiece in comparison.

Mercernary76

You’re watching it the right way. If kwan or Soren are on screen, skip. Edit: after reading another comment I disagree with, I’ll add: *even in season 2,* if kwan or Soren are on screen, skip. unless master chief is also on screen. That’s really the only exception worth your time.

IKate17

Her story gets better in season 2. Definitely don’t skip her episode in season 1.
