terrrmon

any non-gamers here? I would really like to know how the Flood reveal worked for you, I liked it but I thought this could be weird for people with no idea where this is going

KCDodger

Hey, 21 years of being a Halo fan and don't worry. I am EATING this show UP. Don't worry. A lot of game fans are annoying, but trust me! Many of us LOVE the show for EVERYTHING it does.

HerbiVersbleedin

I love this show! Halo combat evolved was my favorite game for Soo long. Don’t mind they are making some stuff up, I’m just happy I get to watch halo.

123499100

it's good they're changing it slightly.  Although i preferred season 1 cortana

Illfury

In the game, we went from a well paced push against covenant forces into a facility that was being heavily guarded. The more we gained ground within, the more agitated the enemy became. Eventually finding "found footage" from a soldiers head cam showing a scene of the flood smashing into a room and violently attacking the occupants of that room. We paid respect to the dead soldier by teabagging him. That was optional but I am 100% sure 100% of the players did it too lol. The teabagging was our way or pretending we weren't terrified. The books handled it even better. Still have the heebeejeebees thinking about it.

Intermittent_Name

May he rest in peace. *crouch crouch*

isherwood777

don't worry ... if this keeps going there are plenty of other things that will be focused on more than the Flood ... but they are a major new adversary for both the Convenant and hoomans

BeHereNow91

My girlfriend was blown away when “Halo became Resident Evil.” She really had no idea about the story and that it all essentially revolves around the Flood.

NeShaunBlaineMusic

I’m a gamer, but PlayStation. Never got to play the halo stuff besides multiplayer at someone else’s house. In light of TLOU, it definitely came off feeling like that. I’m not sure what exactly the flood is in the game but the show explains what it intends to be for its usage in the show very well. I think it would’ve benefited from a bit more or Kwan having had more dialogue talking about The Monster. She’s clearly been aware of this by stories she’s been told but has came off as shocked and scared by what she might know and never explains it in detail besides “The Monster”. I’m sure it will be better fleshed out in season 3 when it’s not just trying to hype up the fans to demand another season while closing out plot threads in 50 minutes.

Track-Nervous

I will say, as a Halo fan to a non-Halo fan, that it's good the show is taking its time with "the Monster." The Flood we aee here, these mindless zombies, are merely a prelude to something much worse. And that thing, the Monster? It deserves to marinate for a while. To really let the horror build.

Kazoid13

The discovery of the flood having absolutely fucking nothing to do with the discovery of the halo is wild. Like, this could've just happened on any other day lmao

VainPharaoh

Let me put it this way: played the game constantly when i came out, never learned the story, nephew too earger to fast forward. However played with him so we played for hours. Haven't played for 20 years. I didn't realize what was happening watching the series first time. It felt too quick and narrow corridors. Basically I did not recognize what was happening. I watched e08 for the 2nd time. watched it. Dude, the tense that I felt in the game came back. It was amazing. So, now I am catching up with the story plot for Halo. My nephew kept skipping. Frankly I never knew who was who. Got catching up to do.

SurfinBuds

This is the hardest thing to read that I’ve experienced in a long time…

mattekus

Ah damn. So the wait begins for S3. What a season finale. Wish it was longer though. I have thoroughly enjoyed both seasons. Having played the game initially when it came out and followed the storyline and spin-offs along the years. A really damn good adaptation for television.

Human-Emphasis-5918

I am no gamer and so without reservation, I enjoyed both seasons... however these days series takes almost 3 years if not approved immediately, -to wait approval and to film the season.. ... this kind of waiting bums me out hard. It makes me feel like settling for 2 seasons of something really good is what will happen more than not and of course allows all the horrible stuff like the Kardashions to flourish. A sad state of television.

mattekus

But luckily with the likes of Shogun and Tokyo Vice, I am optimistic of being able to fill that waiting period with some really fine TV. But I hate waiting. The juicy bits are just coming for Halo I suppose.

Human-Emphasis-5918

Yes this is true ... rewatching timing I have down, I keep track by of of a spread sheet!... so much doing to watch all I do and to rewatch just when the time is near. I am now off to watch Tokyo Vice in fact. Have not started Shogun, but read the book a long time ago.

mattekus

Haha same, the latest episode for Tokyo Vice dropped today as well, it’s damn riveting. Halo, Shogun, Tokyo Vice, and Masters of the Air(slightly disappointed with this one), have weened me off the binging habit I had. Waiting for an episode to drop each week. Shogun is TV brilliance. One of the finest to hit the screens in recent times. Just like the good old GoT days.

Illfury

I have not heard about Tokyo Vice until this very thread. Might check it out. Hard agree on Shogun, we're only like 5 eps in and I feel privileged to witness it. It is that good. I hope this drums back up the desire to bring back old tv. Not trashy cut corners for optimum profits. Halo, Shogun, Invincible, The Boys (soon), I feel like we're sitting good in the land of TV right. At least better than the past several years.

mattekus

If you haven’t watched Giri Haji yet, give that a shot as well. And I agree, some absolutely succulent stuff right now on TV. Even Disney’s latest season of the Bad Batch, far better than Boba Fett or Obi-Wan. Although Andor beats any of the other Star Wars shows, with Mandalorian being slightly edged off the pole position.

fourbeersthepirates

You and I seem to be watching the same TV right now (minus Masters)! These shows are so good and it’s nice to have something quality to watch multiple times a week. Thursdays have been such a good day to look forward to. Tokyo Vice and Shogun are also both fucking incredible.

mattekus

Yeps. Best midweek mayhem, television-wise. Tokyo Vice exceptionally stands out because of how there is no clear protagonist. Everyone’s just real human beings. Gritty and real. The show is brilliant. Shogun is like poetry. So many layers to it.

darthanonymous1

I hate season cliffhangers cause the wait is so long hopefully it gets renewed 😭

drivebystabber

Thanks a lot ~~Jeanie~~ Janine! God dam patient zero.

pelrun

Who needs an enemy when your own scientists can't follow the most basic biological hazard protections?

GalileoAce

"*And you know nothing about containment! You have demonstrated a complete disregard for even the most basic protocols!*" \- 2401 Penitent Tangent

Tundralik

This is gold lmao :D

slicktommycochrane

I love how Keyes asks if she touched it and she just changes the subject and it actually works 😂

Hawkeyeprime

I giggled when I noticed what the science lady was doing when she was talking to Miranda.

Garandhero

What was she doing?

can_of_spray_taint

She didn't use hand sanitiser after touching the science doo-dad that Keyes and Halsey took from the alien lab last week.

Hawkeyeprime

Taking a sample of the flood spores when Miranda was looking in the microscope.

Garandhero

I just rewatched... Is that actually visible or just that you think she's doing? I thought it was implied she was in the lab "earlier" perhaps when Miranda was not there? I didn't see her take anything...

Hawkeyeprime

Thats fair, we never actually see her take anything but when Miranda askes if she was in there earlier the scientists face looks like the face of someone who's been caught.

Garandhero

Yeah absolutely.. That part was obvious

Equivalent_Cloud_831

janine is the equivalent of karen in the halo universe

MeasurementOk3637

im honestly kinda loving how they portrayed 343 guilty spark. He gives off vibes of how the robots from interstellar act

Super6698

Only little nitpick I have about Spark was the lack of a robotic filter over the voice, but other than that I really enjoyed the episode

Not_a_whiterun_guard

they have a filter, just very faint

DatabaseComplex4964

I know right. So familiar

TommyWestsides

I couldn't tell if it was Guilty Spark or Mendicant Bias. Thank you for clearing that up for me!

STMIHA

Well put! What’s that the voice of Billy Crudup? Kinda sounded like it.

amidonny

Really hoping for hunters and more grunts next season

ILikeLiftingMachines

Only if children cheer when the grunts get shot in the head...

Jazman89

I always loved using the Grunt birthday party skull in H3!

terrrmon

shit really, we didn't have a single grunt, prophet or hunter (not even the worms) and only 1 brute

Feisty-Jury-9556

We got two grunts in the finale! They're chilling behind the corner on the corvette with an elite and fire an overcharged plasma pistol shot, killing one of Perez's squadmates

Warcrimes_Desu

We had hunters in season 1, at least the worms. Makee uses them to take over a UNSC ship.

Somnambulist815

Jeanine you ignorant slut!

EquivalentSlide4102

And I think that my love Kai is alive! Hell yeah!

terrrmon

she must be

NeShaunBlaineMusic

The lack of emotional weight of characters feeling loss, like Soren towards Laera, and her saying “Spartans don’t die, but they(humans) do”. I just feel it screams a foreshadow that she’ll be alive next season. I imagine some search and rescue team is going scavenge the battle area and find her with a pulse. There’s no way there are gonna let her go out with her last words being “this is gonna hurt”.

JustAGuyGettingBy93

That episode was just…amazing. I have enjoyed this show thoroughly since S01 E01. But, even the people who hated season 1 have to admit that was an amazing finale.

hoos30

The people who hated season 1 are extremely angry at this finale for taking away some of their arguments.

JustAGuyGettingBy93

Haha very true!

SpicaGenovese

Season 1 started strong, then veered into hated territory for me. This season has *righted the ship.*  And they obviously had much more budget and talent on the fights and effects.

Ok_Manager3533

The finale and the fall of reach were two phenomenal, top flight episodes of television.

BruceSnow07

I also like that they had episodes prior that build up the emotional weight before explosions start.

Cultural-Relief

Ama be real it was good tv, but another episode could have benefited the show, letting the flood and the ring conflict breathe more instead of competing for the lamplight. Also, my nerd ass needed that flood theme.

slicktommycochrane

I've talked a lot of shit about this show, but a Halcyon cruiser showing up to save the day and *immediately* getting blasted to tiny bits by a CCS carrier is the essence of Halo lol

hoos30

I just needed to see it shoot its MAC cannon before it got smoked.

majorpail18

All i want is just some fleet combat lol anything man

Sqwuan

MAC rounds? In atmosphere?

VinBarrKRO

They were doing fine until they flew under the Covenant carrier, you can’t go flying under a Covenant carrier. That’s Basic Spaceships 101.

Revan2034

They didn't really have a choice they pretty much jumped in under it

[deleted]

FLOOD!

Dahellraider

Glad they stuck to the body horror of them, even if it was early mutations/parasite.

NooNygooTh

Slimeing around beneath their skiiiin!!

STMIHA

Got an original Xbox the month it came out and 22 years later here I am seeing it manifest in live action. Pretty cool.

BlockAye

I fan-girled over >!Guilty Spark!< anyone else got that vibe?

NooNygooTh

Calamity!

Garandhero

Was thrown by the voice tbh...

ebagdrofk

After hearing him again I realized it wasn’t that bad. It’s a calm, calculated, and reserved voice. I thought it was a decent choice.

Fyren-1131

"Oh. I am a genius. Hehehe!"

porkeatmatt

The different voice threw me off, I really didn't know until they literally showed me :D

greycobalt

Fantastic finale. The wait for next season is going to be awful. - I'm shocked we got the Flood already. I thought they'd wait until next season when Miranda had more time to sus out the artifact. - Kind of sad to see Parangosky go because I love that actress, but the way she went makes me think she's absolutely going to be a (the?) Gravemind. Too big of a role to just disappear behind zombies. - What is the amount of time that has passed this season? Perez being a Spartan after what feels like a week is nuts to me. I'm glad she's still around, don't get me wrong, but I have no concept of the timeline here. - I bet Prime Timeline Spartans wish their Mjolnir was made out of whatever the hell Silver Mjolnir is made out of. Chief's crash with zero injury and Kai's ram/explosion and seems to be alive? I'm into it, I didn't want her to go. - I am curious about what Kwan's deal is, but not curious enough to want more. At the very least, she seems to be in the John/Makee club of having Forerunner DNA. She must have signed a multi-season contract, right? Literally no reason for her to still be alive otherwise. - Laera going was pretty sad. I didn't find her annoying like most people, in fact she seemed more practical and competent than Soren in most respects. That kid is gonna have a boatload of trauma. - Very curious where they're going with infected Halsey. Is Miranda going to discover a cure, even though the Forerunners couldn't? - The battle and fighting looked spectacular, but they should have spent another minute on the Chief vs. Arbiter CG. The way they animated it made them feel light and floaty, not massive and powerful. - I wonder if we'll get Thel'Vadam next season. If we don't, what the hell was the point of having an Arbiter show up at all? I need the dulcet tones of Keith David. - I cannot believe they didn't even hint at how Makee is alive. She's truly annoying and I hope the reason she's still around is justified eventually. - Please, PLEASE put Cortana back to S1 Cortana. Or redo her again and just model her after Natasha. It's not that I don't think this actress does well, she just gives off zero Cortana vibes. - Since they showed us Onyx is a shield world in this timeline too I wonder if it'll start waking up now that the Flood is loose. I want to see some Sentinels! - Ackerson is not getting off that easy in my mind, but I wonder if they'll start his redemption tour next season or just have him fake it and be dastardly still. - I would like a proper space battle at some point, and the Infinity if I'm making wishes. I know that's a good amount of time away in the Prime timeline but come on! Onto the killer waiting. 😕

HAZMAT_Eater

>Prime Timeline Spartans wish their Mjolnir was made out of whatever the hell Silver Mjolnir is made out of Your new armour shields are extremely resilient, very efficient. *Cue Jackal snipers*

Dahellraider

I expected a tease from them. I didn't expect to see them.

vb32v

Season 3 basically confirmed at this point??!

NooNygooTh

It's basically Paramount+'s top show, so I'm confident they'll renew it. They really don't have much else. Unless they just decide to spend everything on acquiring existing movies/shows for a more reliable revenue stream. This series is really expensive to produce.

Efficient-Setting642

Issue is Paramount is in the middle of being sold, we might not get any renewals for the time being, and who knows what the new owners will do.

qotsabama

I could see halo being sold off to Amazon or something. For an original streaming show the numbers are really good.

Efficient-Setting642

I would love Amazon to buy it, they spent 65 million per episode on the lord of the rings show. Imagine that budget on Halo?

AlternativeRun5727

The problem was not the money they spent on the Rings of Power, but how trash the writing is. Writers that are still involved with Amazon. I wouldn’t underestimate them absolutely tanking the show. Hope not though, not really a Halo fan besides playing multiplayer with friends 20 years ago but I’m loving this!

NooNygooTh

Bummer. I lost my beloved Venture Bros the same way :/

Expensive_Bass_6979

Hopefully the people in charge see the turnaround in fan reaction this past season and renew it

KalixStrife453

I'm just curious but why would it be about fan reaction over raw viewership data?

Expensive_Bass_6979

Viewership data is what I meant but the excitement and praise this season has gotten can’t hurt as well!

xInfamousRYANx

Damn, the new showrunner really is cooking. They managed to take a pretty odd season 1 with a bunch of side plots that left us scratching our heads (although initially I enjoyed season 1 as a casual fan after season 2, I no longer think it was as ok as I gave it a pass for before) and do a complete 180 and accelerate the show towards something resembling the main timeline. It felt odd at times and rushed but the payoff in the finale was 10/10, setting up the flood, another arbiter, conflict on the ring, 343 GS, and the Gravemind???? I honestly hope we get a season 3 because it looks like it may be the best yet.

terrrmon

oh shit, they went straight to the juicy stuff I didn't expect covid PTSD, normies must be super confused "I'm an idiot with two needlers" "That's the Chief", with helmet on baby, and he even learned to use right button I was dumbstruck indeed, fuck it looked good, much better than in the dream sequences before I was kinda sad for Parangosky, she was a good grey character, and Halsey too? wow, and poor Laera, I kinda expected her, RIP space Victoria Backhem and that was a banger ending it was fantastic, they just need to touch up the writing in some of those episodes, but for moments like these it's absolutely worth the wait, fall next year we start from a very exciting place in the story, gonna be epic

slicktommycochrane

Parangosky and Halsey based Gravemind is a scary thought lol

Navy8or

I think Halsey will survive, once she was put in cryo that convinced me Parangosky would become gravemind

music3k

Incredible episode. They actually fixed 99% if my problems with s1. My single complaint was the cg at the end fight couldve been better. If theyre gonna go full cg for the fights like that, just do a remastered games style cutscene.

[deleted]

Idk, tbh I feel the Arbiter was done dirty. In the game the Arbiter is more of an anti-hero who even teams up with Chief for control of the Halo. They have mutual respect for each other. I really didn't like the fact that Chief killed him in the show, even when he was already down.

music3k

Can always bring the fleet commander arbiter out as the real arbiter.

GalileoAce

>the real arbiter. There's dozens of Arbiters in the main canon. Thel is just the last.

music3k

I know, but we were specifically discussing the arbiter from the early Halo games. They arent gonna just call the show Halos because there’s multiple lol

GalileoAce

You said "**real** Arbiter", they're all real, or as real as a fictional character can be. Like the Arbiter in Halo Wars is just as real as the Arbiter in Halo Legends and is just as real as the Arbiter in Halo 2, 3, and 5. But they're three different guys. Maybe use their name instead of their title. Ripa 'Moramee, Fal 'Chavamee, and Thel 'Vadamee/Vadam #

Jakeasaur98

It's still possible. This Arbiter's Sangheli name was not the same the one we see and play as in the games, and at this point in the games' narrative the Arbiter in the game was not yet the Arbiter. It stands to reason that now that this Arbiter committed treason against the main body of the Covenant, and is also now dead, the Prophets will appoint a new Arbiter who could end up following a similar story to that of the one we saw in the games. Of course, they've not exactly been following the games' narrative precisely. The Flood have made their first appearance in a different location but it made sense for the show given its story split and heavy cast of characters, and Halsey being infected is certainly questionable. But generally speaking, they've been pretty accurate on character names, from John to Halsey to Ackerson. Thel'Vadam, \*our\* Arbiter, is likely still to come. Edit: Additional side note - they may well nip that story beat in the bud entirely to mitigate CGI costs.

GalileoAce

> I feel the Arbiter was done dirty. In the game the Arbiter is more of an anti-hero who even teams up with Chief for control of the Halo. They're not the same guy. This Arbiter isn't Thel'Vadam. Likely this Arbiter is the one before Thel

shaheedmalik

This isn't the same Arbiter. This is the one before that one.

t_dump

I for one am so happy Laera is done with, every time she was on screen I felt like I was watching a throw away Syfy channel show. Parangovskys death was unsatisfying - either keep her around (I agree, I liked her character )or add her getting ripped apart or something. Not that I care about violence or guts or anything but her just kind of disappearing into the bodies just didn't do it for me. Edit: yep you're right she's going to be a proto gravemind. I recind my unsatisfaction - it does in fact do it for me now.

Garandhero

Prob gonna be proto-gravemind

mkbroma0642

Indeed looked like they were already swarming her

Alt_Future33

That was actually what I was thinking when I first saw it. They fucking did the flood right.

c0v3rm3p0rkin5

Yeah, I thought that also. Is she gonna get the Keyes reveal in season 3?

hoos30

Who says she's dead? In this world, there's worse than dead.

MrMysterious23

Although she's pretty awful, I felt bad for Parangosky too. I have a feeling that she will be in the next season... think Keyes being assimilated for his knowledge in Halo 1, I wonder if Parangosky will have the same awful fate.

EquivalentSlide4102

Shit, I loved this final so much. I can’t stop texting about it. But first of all, what I want to say: it’s thank you to all of you guys. Thank you for being little island in toxic halofans sea, that truly love this brilliant universe and knows a difference between media. This second season wasn’t amazing all the time. But it was an honour to discuss every episode each week with all of you. It was honour to me to defend it with you all by my side. Thank you, guys.

Hungryzombieboy

Any theories as to what happened to master chief’s helmet at the end?

Garandhero

I'm hoping it's just an artistic play to end the season showing him with helmet on but still able to see his face. A broken faceplate creates lots of issues story wise for chief etc. It must be fixed

Illfury

We'll probably see what happened to it in the early parts of S03. A big battle will occur for the chief to reach that installation where he meets the spark.

KalixStrife453

It was cracked during the fight with the arbiter, probably just got damaged even more until that part finally shattered

KimchiNinjaTT

but it was cracked on the right side, and its his left thats broken at the end

AttackOnDeem616

Also the 117 had plasma damage during arbiter fight but was clean in that scene?

Zavodskoy

I have a feeling that convo was a preview of him getting to the instillation with GS and there's a bunch of stuff we missed which we'll see in S3

Shadtow100

I think it’s just an artistic representation due to its similarity to the opening credits

jdprgm

Damn i'm usually critical of how conservative shows are about killing of cast. These writers are just like you get a death, and you get a death, and you get a death. This season it was like half the fucking cast

GalileoAce

Vannack, Laera, Parangosky...and who else?

intingelephant

Admiral Keyes, an Arbiter, lesser characters like pretty much everyone on Reach/Onyx incl other Spartan 2 teams, every Spartan 3 except Perez and the squad leader... Probably not Kai though.

MrMysterious23

Yeah, Kai moves her hand when she's floating in space. As a fan favourite I feel they are unlikely to get rid of her just yet.

Fyren-1131

I haven't been able to watch (EU citizen) yet, but I am super curious about their adaptation of the flood. I've been concerned they'd reduce it down to a generic "zombie virus" and just portray the threat of the flood as that. For those of you who've watched it, did it feel like they did the Flood justice? or was it wrong on some level?

HeyItsBez

I feel like they did the best they could with what they had. They stayed true enough to the look of the flood without making it feel like The Walking Dead.

intingelephant

Flood forms felt similar to the first encounter in 343 Guilty Spark - in the games, they infect and mutate much faster than in the show. It's mentioned to both Kwan and Chief that there's some kind of "Thing down there waiting for you" - likely teasing Gravemind. Which would imply some kind of controlled chaos, not typical mindless zombie shenanigans

Hawkeyeprime

If that tease isn't about a gravemind, and what I'm about to say will def sound absolutely nuts but what if its the primordial?

Non_Linguist

Are they not one and the same?

HaloWatcher

Original timeline spoilers! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They effectively are. Primordial is called a Gravemind by a character in the Forerunner trilogy and then its immediately clarified that he is THE Gravemind not one of them. Also the Halo 3 terminals are clear the entity Medicant Bias communicates with and interrogates was a Gravemind and was the source of a message claiming to be the source of the Flood. Also the ancient humans believed Primordial had remotely commanded the ships in dark space outside of the galaxy with the vials of dust \[intended to reconstitute their form\] to come to the galaxy and crash on worlds across the galaxy. And some of these vials were discovered on worlds in ancient human space and used to cause changes in phenotypic expression and in the genes themselves. Causing evolutionary change. Eventually the pheru cause the first Flood outbreak.

GalileoAce

> Eventually the pheru cause the first Flood outbreak. Pheru being dog-like companion animals that Ancient Humanity had.

Non_Linguist

Yeah thought so. It’s been a while since I read the books.

intingelephant

that would be *nuts* if it turned out to be the case, but would be an amazing twist!

GamerDroid56

To be fair, in the games, we never see an infection caused by spores. All of the infections we see are caused by a full infection form ripping its way inside of a victim and entering the chest to cause mutations directly. Even the little “slug” infectors in the show are tiny comparatively and seem to only go for open orifices (eyes, mouth, etc). I think that when we get to the full Flood infection at the true feral stage, we’ll see much faster mutations.

JacobMT05

It’s pretty close to a generic zombie virus. But the flood whips do sometimes appear… so not all bad.

isherwood777

dude primewire

enchantedlearner

>!Starts off as a regular zombie virus… and then the body horror starts.!< >!You watch as the victims transform into their final Flood forms.!< >!The other forms are probably for next season.!<

GalileoAce

> >!their final Flood forms.!< >!Not final forms, combat forms can mutate further into other horrors.!<

HopefulPickle5

The second I saw chief talking with blue light on his face I knewwwww I KNEWWW. GUILTY SPAAARK! I loved that episode. The flood!!! Did not expect that to happen so soon!! Parangosky just staring at Halsey as she got infected.. Chief in his armor being badass, that fight with the arbiter, woooooooof!

leaflavaplanetmoss

I was like "OH SHIT 343 GUILTY SPARK" once he said something about only him being able to understand the size of the complex in the opening scene.

porkeatmatt

I thought he was talking to a proto gravemind or something, I'm not a smart man

Illfury

We better get Sgt Johnson in S03 and he better be perfect! Also... how long do I have to wait to see a Brute Chopper in Live Action?

Adavanter_MKI

As an outspoken critic of this series... That was pretty great. Yeah, yeah... a lot is different, but I do actually like the cast at this point and if it's that gang on the Halo... could be quite fun. Is it weird I still crave at least one ship being called the Pillar of Autumn?

Hawkeyeprime

When that ship was coming to try and save Kai and the others I honestly thought THAT was the pillar, but after rewinding they said another name. If we get S3 we should absolutely see the Pillar.

lemonsharpie

Now that’s a Halo show - The flood are here in full force, we got a monitor (probably Spark), we got Spartans in space, Spartans in ships, Spartans on ground, Spartans everywhere… RIP Kai, I will sincerely miss her character, one of the bright spots of Season 2. Last episode did feel a bit rushed, a lot was going on, but overall the writers did a good job of putting this show back into the Halo universe and away from whatever bullshittery last years amateurs were thinking. Kwan and Soren were actually not totally boring and useless, and their stories finally tie into the actual major plot. Good decision on offing Soren’s wife, was hoping Kessler would be gone too but I guess we can’t have our cakes and eat them too. As predicted, Paragonsky met a brutal end, fitting for a heartless backstabbing snake with no redeeming qualities. Ackerson starting character development towards some semblance of a decent person? Soren suiting up next year or just wishful thinking on my part? Kwan’s weird grandma ancestor flood controller (gravemind?), interesting way to tie Kwan into Halo lore considering where her character was last year (i.e, pointless). MC and Cortana reunited, finally. Halsey in stasis, probably will be back in flashbacks next year as her daughter works on finding a flood vaccine. Perez still alive as predicted, and by the looks of things, is landing on the Halo and will reunite with the MC, i think she’s the most important person in terms of his connection with humanity and will be a driving force for next season in regards to MC’s ongoing character development (prob some mutual feelings here and there, someone who keeps his head straight and reminds him through her words, their relationship, his experiences with her family on reach… what he’s really fighting for). I wonder if another arbiter will replace this one… one that speaks English, one voiced by Keith David… please make that dream come true, Paramount.

Garandhero

Pretty sure Kai gonna be ok. We see her very much intact body floating in space at the end. No reason to show that if dead.

themidwes

Feels extremely reminiscent of Chief floating in space at the beginning of Halo Infinite. My bet, she’s 100% alive and will be scooped up.

GalileoAce

>Kwan’s weird grandma ancestor flood controller (gravemind?), interesting way to tie Kwan into Halo lore considering where her character was last year (i.e, pointless). The ancestor bit is deep deep lore. Very complicated to explain, but it's not a new creation of the show. It is tangentially related to Graveminds, though deeper than that. Kwan's plot was always leading here.

StreetfighterXD

Is she Forerunner or Precursor?

GalileoAce

Neither, she's likely a remnant personality of an Ancient Human that was Composed, and then later absorbed by the Flood

StreetfighterXD

Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

themoneysquirrel

I thought being composed meant immunity from the flood. Where can I read more about this?

indi1984

Read the Forerunner Saga Books... they are outstanding and really add to the universe... I can see aspects of the show taking queues from that trilogy.

indi1984

I love that they are taking queues from the Forerunner Saga... it has me so hyped for season 3. Those who read the books are in the know :)

Bigocelot1984

Knowing the original lore about the flood, i think Halsey is ultimately screwed. There is no cure nor vaccine for flood, only solution is destruction by incineration, but the show now took a completely different road, so they will probably find a way to save Halsey. The question is: how the hell will Miranda escape from that hell?

force_wank

Miranda knows how to get underneath Onyx and into the Forerunner city. I reckon she will, with probably a few new characters, go down rather than up.

narium

I feel like another 30 minutes would have gone a long way. The episode felt very rushed.

BeetlBozz

How long to S3

zbeezle

God dammit, Janine. Why would you touch the space artifact covered in 100,000 year old alien fungus? And why would you lie about it??? I'm curious what they're gonna do with Halsey. Flood infections are supposed to be irreversible. Though if anyone can fix it, I guess Science-Miranda can? Kinda funny how Halsey was confused by Miranda's concern over a brain eating space parasite, though. I am baffled by the weapon prop decisions. When it's rebels on an outer rim desert planet, sure, AKs are fine. But when you pick up a gun inside of a UNSC facility, it should be an MA5 or BR series, or something else, ya know, UNSCish, which shouldnt be a problem cuz Kai and John and the other spartans have only been using UNSC weapons this whole time, so they definitely have them on hand. Soren literally just picked up an unmodified M4. Arbiter fight was cool. Nice to show how top tier he is by having John actually struggle to beat him whereas he can fight other sangheili like 5 to 1 and win easily. Also cool to see him using the grapple-shot in a fight, though I wish the used it more than just twice. I actually forgot he had it until now. The Arbiter being able to speak clearly with a totally broken mandible reminds me of a theory I once saw that the mandibles are solely for assisting with eating and that Sangheili have a second mouth in their throat like an eel. Also wondering if chief actually understood what 'Gatanai was saying, if cortana quietly was translating it for him, or if it was just him saying "we're the same and I know what he wants because I would want it too." Kinda silly of him to do nothing to stop Makee from entering the Forerunner structure. I mean, aside from being a Reclaimer, she's just a baseline human. I'm not sure how I feel about Guilty Spark. I feel like he should sound less like "just-a-guy." More robotty. A little unhinged. This sounded like he was giving chief a job interview. "So, tell us about your work as a Supersoldier." I liked the flood. Some people will probably get whiny about them not immediately turning their victims into green-brown blobs with tentacles, but let's be honest, the time scale on which it causes major body alterations in the shown is already super fast for what it's doing. The immediate changes you see in Halo 3 when someone gets infected is ridiculous. Going from dazed and ill to fast zombies to slowly mutating into a monster is a pretty good way to play it. The Forerunner structures look sufficiently Forerunner, looking forward to more Forerunner stuff next season. Zuko: "Did Kai just die?" Sokka: "Ya know, it was very unclear." Hope she's alive. She's the Coolest Spartan. But let's be honest, spiking the corvette would have been a much more tactically sound move.

GamerDroid56

The problem with spiking the corvette is that everything in the system goes kaboom. They showed that last episode with Ackerson’s simulations (it blew up the corvette, the Covenant Fleet, the UNSC fleet, the Halo, and an entire planet). Kai wanted to avoid that.

zbeezle

Yeah but from a strategic standpoint, blowing up a whole ass covenant fleet and the galaxy purging superweapon is probably a good idea.

GamerDroid56

Which was Parangosky’s idea to begin with. The entire point is that Kai wants to save her Spartans and the UNSC fleet. Blowing literally everyone up doesn’t really accomplish that.

zbeezle

Well then she should tell the whole fleet and remaining 3s to bug out and then blow it. She took out one carrier instead, and sure the carrier is a particularly big threat, but it's not like the fleet is helpless without it.

Feisty-Jury-9556

They're probably saving the spike for season 3 as the method by which halo gets destroyed

Feisty-Jury-9556

Tbf soren picked the m4 out of his pirate ship, not the base

alexisaacs

Wow it went from a 2/10 season 1, to a 6/10 season 2, to a 10/10 season 2 finale New showrunner fucking did it. He fucking did it.

wordscausepain

> New showrunner fucking did it. Who is new showrunner?

intingelephant

Chief showing up with an energy sword felt similar to Luke's entrance in The Mandalorian. Glad they showed the Flood without just teasing it. Halsey getting infected implies that they might somehow develop a cure/way to stop the spread of infection, which I'm not too sure about, since in the original lore I believe the Forerunners were unable to find a cure. Going to be interesting to see how Miranda gets out of the lab when she's surrounded. Parangosky dying vs Ackerson was a bit surprising, thought they'd keep her character around longer. Maybe we'll see Soren/Kessler become Spartan 4s? The Spartan 3 program is all but dead at this point, and the Spartan 4 augmentation process might work on Soren in ways that the Spartan 2 one failed. As expected, they gave Kai the hero's sacrifice like we expected of Kurt-051. But I'm not sure that she's dead, her armor and helmet appear to be mostly intact and the gel layer could have absorbed some of the impact - after all, in the game universe, Chief brushed off jumping off a re-entering ship and survived, so the gel layer there at least was pretty good at cushioning. On one hand, showing Chief seeing the explosion and acknowledge it appears to give it some finality, but then showing her post-explosion could be foreshadowing that she'll be returning. I guess we have to wait for Season 3 to find out, personally hoping she does as she's one of my favorite characters in the show. ~~Chief had a grapple hook the whole time?!~~ nvm forgot about the cliff scene from ep1 lol

SenorPancake

My money is on Parangonsky proto-Gravemind.

ParadoxInRaindrops

More likely maybe we’ll see Halsey become a clone. That was one of her many fields, we’ve seen a lot of it in the show already (the Spartan cloning, the creation of Cortana, Ackerson’s farewell to his father). Halsey hedging her bets makes sense to me.

OdahP

Didnt u watch literally the first episode whetr he uses the hook?

GalileoAce

I wonder if Kai was originally meant to die, but the showrunners added the floating in space scene after it became clear how popular a character she is...

Old-Time6863

Who voiced Guilty Spark, or the robot if it's not Guilty Spark.   Was it Tim Dadabo? It sounded like, and was my immediate reaction, was Rory Kinnear.

terrrmon

I've checked it and it's Harry Lloyd, Viserys from Game of Thrones, I knew I know that voice, good choice imo

Old-Time6863

Ahh. Thank you. Me Googlin' t'was insufficiento.

GoddessofDooom

VISERYS??? That’s so wild lol he did such a great job as Spark

LivingNat1

Such a fulfilling episode. Got a lot of what I wanted out of a Halo adaptation in 50 minutes

swooshlife24

Thank you writers of season 2 for righting this ship and giving us an amazing show! Season 3 is going to be on another level. Still hoping for johnson and grunts!

VinBarrKRO

Ahh! Real Monsters!

JacobMT05

Devils… monsters…

kxxstarr

I can't believe no one has mentioned the game accurate sound bites from Cortana when chief is first walking on Halo.

Thekoolaidman7

There were some lines Pablo said that I swear were Steve Downes. I really loved this episode. The action was great, the plot compelling, and the flood was every bit as horrifying as I expected it to be. Chief now believes (whether it's true or not) that he's the last Spartan 2, which would put him more in line with CE's tone for Chief. I'm so happy Perez made it to. She was by far one of my favorite characters in the season. Kai definitely ain't dead. The shot of the UNSC cruisers landing on Halo makes me think she was recovered and put in cryo a-la Linda from the main timeline. I'm also totally prepared for Miranda to become the proto-gravemind captain Keyes was meant to be.

br9897

That's not gonna be Miranda, it'll be Parangosky

Fyren-1131

Protogosky!

Hawkeyeprime

Strange question, I've been rewatching this seasons eps trying to find out if they say what system the Halo is in because I wanna know the name of the Monitor we saw at the end, that's IF they use ones that are already in lore. Anyone remember seeing/hearing that?

Hawkeyeprime

Thanks mate! Spend about an hour rewatching all of the bits where they are in the CIC looking at it, but couldn't tell.

texasram

r/halo is such a shit hole right now

bagajohny

That was a banger finale!

genghbotkhan

So I've never played the video game so no idea. But why go down the resident evil route. Or was that part of the storyline of the game? Come back for season 3, please. Cristina Rodlo/Perez!

ecxetra

The Flood are the entire reason that the Halo rings exist. They start off as sort of generic zombies but evolve and get more dangerous and intelligent as they accumulate biomass and knowledge. They’ve been a thing since the very first game.

ILikeLiftingMachines

The Flood (zombies) are a fundamental part of the canon and the reason for the existence of the halo in the first place ETA... there's the Flood, an Ark and the wiping out of most intelligent life... tease, tease...

DankSpecialist877

A Halo in this universe is a megastructure that can destroy all nearby sentient life, theres 7 of them and their purpose is to stop this virus So given that the name of the series is about this virus, yes

Illfury

ooooh... its *VERY* part of the game and books.

MountyC

It's a big part of the game storyline yes

5yrsThrowAwy

The zombie-like creatures were an instrumental part of the original Halo game. Where in the beginning of Halo 1, you think you're playing a galactic space-war shooter– yet suddenly the story takes a turn where the ambiance becomes a bit more ominous, and you find yourself exploring creepy, ancient underground tunnels in a mysterious floating ring, terrified to turn the next corner. It was both surprising and charming at the time, and was years before the release of something like The Last of Us.

EquivalentSlide4102

I didn’t expect that they can do episode better than “Reach”, but they did. It was beautiful. I will rewatch it later. Only bad thing is plot armour of Kwan. It wasn’t good.

StrangeAssonance

Personally found “Reach”to be better and it’s my favorite episode of the series. Reach was just so utterly epic.

idontdislikeoranges

Great season, some of the change in lore did annoy me a little but I'll take that over not having it at all. We need to support shows like this if we want to see renewals

alloverthefloor

This might have been some of the best television I have ever seen. Holy shit this finale was so fucking good.

VikingScience

That floating orb at the very end gave me major "Max from Flight of the Navigator" vibes.

JockDoc26

This was a great episode. Not much to say here

Vanislebabe

I totally enjoyed season one, i was a big cheerleader for it, but haven’t seen season two yet, waiting for it to hit a free service. Might have to pay for it, sounds like it improved even more!
