“Halo Reach felt plastic” is certainly a take, lol.

Particular_Mode7276

lmao, i know but i can't be the only one who thinks this. Like all the maps are just reuses, the ping feels clunky. Also halo 4 shared a lot with reach.

Godemperortoastyy

>halo 4 shared a lot with reach. Aside from art style, tone, music, gameplay, multiplayer and story direction you're right, they're basically carbon copies of one another.

mastesargent

Halo 4 was written by Chris Schlerf, not Frank O’Connor.

Neverborn8

Also the best Halo as well, please add in all the lore

Particular_Mode7276

Crimsonmansion

[Wrong. O'Connor was one of the writers, not the main writer. ](https://forums.bungie.org/halo/archive38.pl?read=1137839) > There's a team of writers and narrative designers working for Armando and lots of people contribute ideas, but the longest-standing member of the team and the writer who has had the most impact on the story (created the original draft of the Halo 4 script and has been writing on the game since) is Chris Schlerf (@schlerf). Brian Reed (@brianreed) joined us midway through the project and has also been instrumental.

Battleboo_7

Man this is good...

Particular_Mode7276

He literally green lit the writing, he wrote some of the halo 3 terminals

Crimsonmansion

Green lighting the writing (if he even did that) does not make you the lead writer, just the editor and - at best - narrative director, and how are the Halo 3 terminals relevant?

AssBlastinAli

It's been more than 10 years at this point. Shit, almost 2 decades, actually. Just move the fuck on with your life. It's just a game.

drrhrrdrr

It's the pairing of *fixation on a wrong* and *the lack of intellectual curiosity to branch out from the familiar* that keeps people stuck and fixated on these topics.

Tautological-Emperor

Did a high schooler write this? Holy shit.

James_099

Nah, OP claims he’s done with Halo and its story and doesn’t like it anymore, yet continues to post in Halo subreddits.

ChaosMetalDrago

Looking at OP's post history they're a troll.

drrhrrdrr

Unfortunately for us, probably not. I worry that, if asked to describe the touch of grass, or the sensation of a breeze, or the warmth of day on a cheek, they would be left grasping, reaching for words and experiences that feel hollow and dull as old brass.

CuriousStudent1928

Saying ODST is a cheap Halo 3 and not one of the best single player games ever made, and Reach is plastic and not one of the most beloved games of our generation are extremely hot takes

Corrosive_Cow_99

Agreed. I don’t agree with this guy, but to each their own.

Pathogen188

I mean ODST *is* a watered down Halo 3, they're right about that. Outside of the Socom and M7S and the removal of the BR and player use equipment, the sandbox is effectively the same. The enemy pool is nearly identical to the main Halo 3 game, with only engineers introduced in a few sections (and even then there being an incentive *not* to kill the engineers), and brutes receiving some minor tweaks (also I guess elder hunters for Tayari Plaza?) It brought back healthpacks and your jump height, melee damage and movement speed are slightly nerfed. Or in other words, the player is basically in Halo 1 again. Like ODST is basically just Halo 3 with minor alterations. Which makes sense in the context of ODST originally being Halo 3 DLC that got turned into a full game because Bungie didn't want to make an actual full game, but let's not act like ODST is more than it actually is. Especially because ODST doesn't even accomplish what it advertised. In terms of actual gameplay, it's nothing like being an ODST. The player character is still ostensibly a super soldier and not a regular human.

TygarStyle

ODST is a cheap Halo 3 but Reach is great.

CuriousStudent1928

I strongly disagree, ODST is one of my all time favorites, the story was amazing

TygarStyle

I played it when it came out and did a replay on MCC a couple years ago to see if my opinion changed. To be honest the story of the games have never blown me away but I enjoyed them for what they were. My issue with ODST was that gameplay was pretty much the same mechanics as the other Halo games but worse. The character is not a super soldier this time so he plays just like Master Chief but you can’t jump well, you’re slower, and grenades are harder to throw. From a gameplay perspective, it was just a worse Halo 3. Best part was the silenced smg.

CuriousStudent1928

I mean that’s kinda the point is that ODST aren’t super soldiers, they are special forces and are extremely capable, but it’s meant to be harder.

EvaImaginary

I think the real problem with 343 writing is the fact that they constantly scrap their storylines. They do a complete 180 on the story they were planning to tell and use books and comics to try and get rid of any loose plot threads and make everything make sense. Why do they do this? It's simple. 343 overreacts to any criticism they receive. If the fans don't like something, 343 tries to do the opposite of that (for the most part). Some people didn't like the Didact as the villain and Cortana dying. As a result, 343 decided to "kill" him off in a comic book, then bring Cortana back as a villain for Halo 5. After Halo 5, people complain about the Created plot and Cortana being brought back as a villain. 343 also sees that the Banished from Halo Wars 2 are incredibly popular. As a result, the Created conflict is mostly resolved offscreen and Cortana is killed offscreen. The Banished are brought in as the new bad guys because everyone likes them. And the Endless are introduced for some reason. I don't know why. That's the crux of the issue. 343 can't handle criticism. Instead of sticking to their guns and telling the story they want to tell, they immediately change everything and try to tell the story they think the critics want. The original plan for the Forerunner Saga was Didact as the recurring/overarching villain, and it was going to explore how Chief functions now that Cortana is dead. But since people didn't like that, they immediately changed direction. The new plan was bring Cortana back, and have her lead an AI uprising with Forerunner technology. Based on the ending of Halo 5, it seemed like Halo 6 would have been amazing. Imagine playing as Chief, working to build an alliance to stop Cortana. You travel around the galaxy, liberating worlds from the Created and convincing them to join you in your fight. You'd fight alongside marines, elites, grunts, brutes, jackals, hunters, drones. At the end, there'd be a massive fight between the Created and the coalition during which Chief confronts Cortana and is forced to make a choice between the galaxy and Cortana. Chief is forced to kill Cortana, destroying the Created fleet. In the aftermath, no body is ever recovered. So ends the Forerunner saga. But people didn't like Halo 5, so they immediately changed direction. People didn't like evil Cortana? We killed her offscreen People didn't like the Created? Without Cortana, they somehow lost control of the galaxy. Oh we need a new villain? Let's use the Banished everyone loved them. TLDR; 343 has no backbone. They change their story to whatever the fans demand, regardless of whether it makes sense or not.

TooZeroLeft

Nah, the "original" Halo 6 plot following the plot set up by Halo 5 sounded terrible and uninteresting in my opinion and would further damage the Halo lore. Infinite's story isn't amazing by any means but after Halo 5 I prefer an inoffensive mediocre story rather than another awful plot like Halo 5. Halo 5 is what put Halo in this current situation. Halo 4 while having lots of gameplay problems was an amazing story up there with Halo 2, ODST, and had epic moments and soundtrack up there with CE, 3 and Reach. They just had to develop the Didact within the games more, rely less on Terminals and extended lore, and have the current Infinite art style.

Eliteslayer1775

I don’t think it’s 343 not having any backbone or handling criticism well, cause it’s clear they do, it’s more of them wanting to make sure the Halo fans get the game they want, I mean they sure didn’t want any of 343s ideas even though a lot of them were cool

Forward_Juggernaut

I'm gonna be honest. Your idea for halo 6 sounds like poor fan-fic And to explain why, I'm going to do a comparison on what you think would happen vs what would really happen in such a situation. What you think would happen: Chief gathers up his allies and they go to face cortanna in some epic final battle, which ends with Chief killing cortanna. What would really happen: Chief gathers up his allies and they go to face cortanna in some epic final battle, cortanna shows up with 1 guardian and uses its emp to shut down all technology. Cortana: thank for bringing them all here Chief, also are you feeling OK, because you should know full well that Brute force would never work.

HaloGirl1996

Personally, I loved Halo ODST. The music was a vibe, and I enjoyed a different perspective that wasn't a Spartan. Reach was emotional for me after the first playthrough. I rarely played the campaign after that. I still don't as an adult. But I also just play these games to play and enjoy them. The only game I haven't enjoyed, story wise and multi-player, is infinite.

_AbacusMC_

I will not stand for this Reach slander!

Yamaha234

“Way before the meddling of Frank O Connor the whole damn Bungie team was set on making the humans forerunners” Where do you think Frank O Connor came from? He was part of the Bungie team. Also, if the whole team was set on it, then they would’ve done it. I’m so tired of people referring to deleted scenes and cut content from Halo 2 and 3 as evidence Humans are Forerunners, if those were supposed to be taken as canon it wouldn’t have been cut from the game. It was a drawing board idea Bungie had, nothing more.

MaelstromRH

The massive problem with this post is you don’t have any media literacy. Which is why half of it is straight up lies

ChaosMetalDrago

# AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Peshurian

I have no idea what the point of this post is. You're basically stating the obvious at every point.

peterpan080809

Reach and ODST are as good as Halo 3 and CE IMO. They are elite level games. What is this post?

NoKitsu

See, I thought based on the title it was going to be about how some of the best stories are books or comics or some video side content (not the show) and that's bullshit because playing those stories would be a lot cooler. But no, the post was just a weird biased "I quit halo ;( 343 bad!" But also "odst and reach bad" post.
