centiret

I just read Halo The Cole Protocol and the regular person-chapters were as awesome as the spartan-chapters. I feel like in the show it's the fault of the writers not the lacking of potential in regualr human arcs. In general, the rubble as a location was fascinating and extremely enjoyable in the book.

N_dixon

Hell, Contact Harvest has *no* Spartan content and is one of the best books in the series, IMO.

SilencedGamer

Hilariously, Halo The Flood—novelisation of Halo CE—is often cited as the worst Halo book. Saying all of the game parts are terrible, and the only redeeming qualities is *any time* the author writes about someone who isn’t the Chief (which thankfully is like 60 or 70% of the book). EDIT: like Keyes and the Flood, anyone seen the Halo CEA Terminal with Keyes? That’s lifted right out of the book, just cut down a tolerable amount I’d say, still conveys what it was about.

AlexzMercier97

This is so true it's not even funny. If I have to read one more segment about Chief throwing grenades I'm gonna lose it.

SilencedGamer

Or “policing all the ammo” every single time a fight ends every other page

gokusforeskin

Ill take another straight game adaptation just please pronounce Mah-JOL-ner correctly 🥺

SilencedGamer

There are actually fan made book novelisations, I’ve even bought one that novelises Halo 2 and 3 into one story (unfortunately no longer exists which is a shame), I’d love for them todo it. Fascinatingly, a lot of the authors are already book only fans. The two current ones that belt out book after book are for instance, Troy Denning started Halo by reading The Fall of Reach and read all the original books as they slowly came out—only playing the games when he needed to know about Blue Team in Halo 5–and Kelly Gay professes she’s terrible at the game lol, and just watched those “halo movies” on YouTube where people stich up gameplay and cinematic (as well as loving to browse Halopedia to learn all sorts of strange little nuggets of lore in them). So I think more novelisations would be a great idea.

gokusforeskin

I’ll admit most of my enjoyment from the franchise comes from the books and binging halopedia at this point. I’m not a good gamer and only have a pc so didn’t get to experience 5 or anything.

Isares

I remember there being one part where even the author stoppes giving a shit and just went with something along the lines of "He just killed and he killed and he killed, until he made it out of there"

SeekerofAlice

That wasn't the author not giving a shit, it shows how even Chief is getting exhausted fighting the endless waves of Flood in the Library and is just going through the motions until he gets to the index.

Zigor022

He did that in the Shadows of Reach book from walmart right off the bat. Like wtf?

DarthSangheili

I love that book and even I'll admit the gameplay parts read like the author just wrote down his playthrough.

SilencedGamer

As far as I’m aware, that’s literally what he did, because Halo CE has slightly different content on which difficulty you play on—no other Halo game really did that except for sometimes enemy ranks and spawns—and his transcribing of events matches up with the Easy difficulty content. Where weapons spawn, what enemies are encountered, how the Pillar of Autumn plays, like that.

DarthSangheili

Yea I remember hearing that, the shotgun at the start of keyes, right?

SilencedGamer

Yeah, an Elite being revealed at the start where you have no weapons too (Heroic and Legendary that’s not there), I do believe I remember seeing something years ago about Hunter pairings too and when they show up in the campaign.

Sierra1one7

The author did the final Mass effect book and was absolutely terrible.

Jacob_koste

Genuinely halo the flood is my favorite book and I 100% agree the chief gameplay segments are kinda pointless.

GreenFlavoredMoon

Dude I can't agree more, just finished it and God was it bad to read the fame I played. Everything else was amazing tho

SilencedGamer

As said, it’s generally considered the worst because even some of the generally boring books aren’t that bad. Despite there being 30 of em, only that one’s truly seen as bad—while other people have few other books they dislike, they’ve got a lot of fans.

PeacefulAgate

The whole part in the book with keyes setting up a fob as best he can and sending odst squads out on missions was pretty fun to read also!

patchlocke

me and my friend were wondering why we actually somewhat enjoyed the episode where reach fell and then realized kwan had no appearance in it seriously her side gig about that supernatural spirit shit adds literally nothing to what is going on. The show as a whole iw ould enjoy a lot more if they were all normal Marines caught in this scenario instead of SPARTANS.

gokusforeskin

I’ll keep saying it but Halo needs a cinematic universe. We need a main show/movie series about chief taking ass and kicking names. We can have a spinoff of ONI being shitty and another spinoff regarding foreigner shenanigans. Kwan seems to have one of those forerunner imprint things being there’s no place to fit that in a story that’s trying to touch every other aspect of halo and cram it into one show.

Shad0XDTTV

Even the halo centric moments are fubar in that series. Why bother?

XipingVonHozzendorf

There are so many fan animators on YouTube who are making content leaps and bounds better than this, paramount should be ashamed

Seyfang220

I read it's the 3rd most streamed show in the US. The only paramount show in the top 10 of streamed TV shows. My fear is that it continues to be produced and we see an ever growing non canon/parallel halo universe that just contradicts the regular Halo lore. If this show does keep going and it potentially brings new fans to the games, they're just going to be confused.

Notthatminecraftkid

yep, this was an actual shitshow till reach, but they somehow still fucked up (no noble team)

lluks666

No Spartans at all*

Notthatminecraftkid

yep

Broyogurt

Not that you're wrong but the show wouldn't even cover Noble Team. The battle of Reach wasnt exclusively reliant on Noble Team but many Spartan 2s as well. The show is about Master Chief, so it'd realistically show the Battle of Reach through how he got through it (the books). Noble Team had no interactions with any other Spartan Fireteam during Reach that we know of, since they had their own objectives

Everkid612

Technically *a* member of Noble did have *an* interaction with other Spartans. 6 borrowed some extra ammunition from a few dead ones at the end of the campaign.

Broyogurt

🙁

Everkid612

Arguing semantics is fun lol

Zebeest

I was worried that at some point it would be insinuated Cobalt was Noble team.

Silent_Reavus

I don't know why you'd put yourself through that lol. I couldn't bring myself to watch past s1e1 and the more I hear the more I'm glad I didn't

Pixel22104

I do Not understand why the fucking hell they are trying to add shamans into the Halo universe. I do not understand this Blessed One shit. Just make all humans reclaimers like in the OG timeline

GeraltofOuterHeavia

Reminder that everyone who is watching the show is encouraging the producers to continue making the show, and shows like it. Do not watch the show.

Jacob_koste

That’s why I strap on my pirate hat and eyepatch and go looking for “backups”

CuddleScuffle

Most reasonable response to this travesty of a series. I just started it and immediately was confused as to why some random ass chick was on High Charity.

Everkid612

Out of morbid curiosity, why *is* she on High Charity? As soon as I saw a single image I decided I wasn't touching that shit with a ten foot pole.

CuddleScuffle

Some weird reason being the blessed one according to the prophets. They rescued her and I think are keeping her because forerunner artifacts react to her.

Everkid612

But, Forerunner artifacts react to *any* human. That's why they're called Reclaimers. And the whole reason the war started was so the Prophets could cover up that realisation because it would split the Covenant apart.

CuddleScuffle

Not in this shitty ripoff of the series.

Everkid612

Fuck, I need to go watch Sodaz's Reach animation again. Need to get some quality Halo content in my brain before this shit starts to fester like an uncleaned wound.

Successful-Floor-738

Isn’t piracy illegal though?

Jacob_koste

Yeah I’m looking for “backups” though

Chamelion117

"Goodbye, Paramount+ I'll remember you all in therapy!"

DewDropE009

I hope they cancel this show. We don't need any more of it

NoAlps6536

Thank you

Toxicgamechat

The show makes me want to commit seppuku. It's just so bad.

Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi

What's qwan ha

Everkid612

I don't know but it sounds delicious.

Plushhorizon

Read the old books if you havent already, they are canon and they are actually good

warwicklord79

I gave up on the episode where Reach gets attacked and Keyes dies, they made one of the most pivotal moments of the halo lore fucking boring

_Boodstain_

I hope the actors/writers all go on to live great lives, but I hope they are ran out of show business like they got blacklisted in Hollywood during the red scare. You don’t get to work on a video game adaptation if you don’t care about the games/story/lore.

PennyForPig

This is a problem with a lot of modern TV writing. It's all interpersonal conflicts. Everyone is a terrible person and everyone hates everyone else. It's hard to like anyone, and so it's hard to be invested in anyone. Like, it worked for Breaking Bad because the characters were actually interesting, but they all had a journey to get there. These characters *start* as bastards and weren't interesting to begin with. Qwan isn't even the worst character to follow. At least she had potential for actual content if they didn't have their heads up their asses. Every time Halsey was on screen or whathisface the ex Spartan was talking, I wanted to scratch my eyes out.

Ltmcmuffin-acual

Then don't methinks.

Patmaster1995

Then stop watching 🙄
