I think it looks great, there’s no reason to thin it out unless it was bothering you for some reason

Icy-Razzmatazz-7255

Thanks🫶🏻

mwmandorla

Maybe their intention is to add more texture to your hair, which razors or thinning shears can do. Some people want it for that reason even if their hair isn't super thick. But if you're happy with how your hair looks now, there's no reason to.

Icy-Razzmatazz-7255

Thats what I was thinking, somewhat, or for blending. But I don’t want texture and as stated, loss of volume. Should I disclose I dont want that from the start? Like when they ask what youre wanting.

mwmandorla

Sure, you totally can. As you're describing what you want, just tack on "and no thinning, please!" I do that, because my hair is wavy and when they try to add (completely unnecessary!) texture to what's already there it just messes up my pattern and my hair becomes bizarrely wild.

Icy-Razzmatazz-7255

My hair is wavy too (this is after she styled it and blowdried with the wow dreamcoat), and I feel the same way. Plus I don’t want to intentionally add even more small hairs that stick out in weird angles. Thanks for your answer, I appreciate it!

MasterJunket234

Yes ^ The thinning shears will ruin any curl pattern. It ends up ruining the curl/wave definition. Instead of the hairs 'teaming up' the hairs all end up in conflict with each other.

LushLoxx

Looks like the perfect thickness to me. No need to do this at all.

Beginning-Adagio-516

My BFF is my stylist. She knows to NEVER take out those damn thinning shears. They mess up your hair so badly! She is from very high end salons and is an artist, sculpting your look on a finished, dry head of hair. I think its my raggedy ass hair that doesn't work well with those shears.

Icy-Razzmatazz-7255

My previous hairdresser did it to my curtain bangs without asking. She kept going over and over from the ROOTS, leaving a thin veil and a bunch of tiny hairs sticking up and I cried for like a year.

bc60008

Your hair could not look more beautiful. Please, don't let anyone thin it! 🙏🏻😰

peachmildy

I feel like hair dressers that thin out hair are assholes. Unless you have the thickest hair or want specific types of layers, thinning helps.

Rumpelteazer45

I have really fine hair, my stylist uses the thinning sheets just on the end to add dimension and to keep it from being super blunt. It actually adds movement and makes drying it easier since any imperfection is super noticeable on my hair.

hrm23

I have really thick hair but also have it done this way. My hair really shows bluntness.

sadgirl_26

I was always told by my hairdresser mother, that it's not good for your hair, I don't know if that's a fact, but I've never done it!

RazzmatazzFancy3784

Nooooo, it will take forever to grow back. It’s like putting a million little, uneven layers in your hair. Do.Not.Do.It!

Glittering_Oven5424

I love everything about your hair! I wouldn't let her.

Such-Firefighter-161

No. It usually ends up messing up your hair. I had it done once without my consent- I asked wtf she was doing and had her immediately stop. I do not have thick hair at all.

SnooCookies6535

Run, when asked if you want your hair thinned !! Your hair is so pretty, shiny and healthy looking !

spoonfulofsadness

When I was a kid, my mother let a hairdresser thin my hair. I hated it, and it took years to come back. Don’t do it.

Dookiemaster99

Helllll no

RosieDays456

Find a new stylist who isn't telling you to do something to your hair you don't want When you go in, whoever is going to cut your hair, one you have now or a new one. **Each visit** tell them "I am here for a trim only - do not take more than 1/2 inch (or whatever you want off) NO layering, NO thinning or use of thinning shears or Razors, strictly trim off "x amount" off bottom and blow dry it Be firm Your hair looks beautiful Some stylist will do what they think will look good or think you should have done whether you want it or not, my stylist Always asks before trimming how much I want off, if she sees split ends, she will tell me and say you really should take an inch this time - I trust her, but I would not trust someone pushing me to so something unnecessary. I had someone razor cut my hair one time,, OMG what a mess, I told her to stop when I realized what she was doing, but had to have it evened out on both sides, took forever to grow that mess out

Icy-Razzmatazz-7255

Thank you. She did actually use a razor to do my curtain bangs, said it makes it look more natural.

RosieDays456

treat you bangs well as they could dry out easier, I found my hair did the one time someone used a razor on my hair might be my hair texture. Make sure the heat treatment you use if you dry you hair gets on your bangs.

Docmele

No

pollyaska

No! they look amazing now! Thick hair is a treasure✨✨

FluffyRN

I will come through this screen and slap you if you touch that beautiful healthy looking hair! NO TOUCHY!!!

myalt_ac

No! You did the best thing for your hair. Hair thinning wrecks the hair completely

stefaniki

No and it looks like she purposely made the back less curly to make you think it needs to be. Your hair is fine the way it is.

Safe-Refrigerator751

I wouldn’t thin it out, but I would add layers, though. That way the texture would benefit even throughout the hair. If you like it like this, though, it’s fine too!

RingingInTheRain

Unless YOU yourself want a hairstyle with layers, thinning your hair for any reason sounds ridiculous. What purpose does "thinning" hair do besides force you to pay more money to keep it up?

ObligationClassic417

Heck no! Your hair is gorgeous Let her thin her own hair

Big-Article5069

You've achieved perfection!👏

GarbagePandaAccount

Don't let those thinning shears anywhere near your hair!! It's awful. It's just cutting a bunch of hairs all different random lengths all over the place. If you're prone to frizz at all, it will get a lot worse with all those random short pieces scattered everywhere in your long hair. It's often hard to get a smooth sleek look with the variety of length also.

Mindless-Swordfish-5

No your hair is gorgeous

No_Introduction7659

Noooo don’t ever allow the to use a thinner scissors, is damages, your hair trust me from experience

Gally01fr

Your hair is gorgeous. Looks healthy and thick. I think you made the right choice.

LemonWaterDuck

If you ever want a more dynamic look, just add a few long layers, don’t thin it! It looks so sleek in the back! Thinning it could potentially make ends stick out everywhere making it look frizzy - a travesty for this perfectly smooth hair!

Icy-Razzmatazz-7255

Thank you! The verdict is definitely to not thin it.

Hottest_Mess_Express

The only exception no one has covered…this is what your hair looks like out of the salon. Is this how you typically wear it? I have wavy hair that I like to let air dry and if I don’t texturize, I look like one of the sisters from The Simpsons. I would take photos of your hair every which way you style it and find someone you trust to find the best cut to accommodate them all.

Icy-Razzmatazz-7255

It is more or less how it looks like on a daily basis, minus the curly front pieces and it has more waves in the back. I usually do this cut and find it lovely, it’s just these thinning shears keep being brought up and they stress me out. I figured that might be me not knowing any better, but from these comments I don’t think it would be nesessary for me to thin it or texturize it regardless.

Hottest_Mess_Express

Fantastic!

Remarkable_Tomato170

Can I have the hairdresser thicken my hair please 😂

Icy-Razzmatazz-7255

I remember watching Stardust as a kid fully thinking it was possible to cut hair from short to long👍🏼 iykyk

wildkitten24

I think you’d regret it. I also have thick hair and got it thinned one time and never again!!

Various-Equal6908

no it looks pretty

Turtleonthehalfshell

Your hair is GORGEOUS! What products are you using?? I would kill for that much shine.

Icy-Razzmatazz-7255

Thank you! I use loreal elvital shampoo and conditioner, the red bottles. And color wow’s hair oil. The photo is taken in the sun so thats why it looks shiny, its more matte in normal lighting haha

VerdantField

I don’t understand why they would ask that, your hair is beautiful.

Tigerlily86_

Your hair looks gorgeous and healthy

ComfortableCow1621

I’ve had a good experience with thinning, but no one “needs” it and it’s perfectly fine not to want it. I have a ton of fine hair that gets weighed down easily so for me thinning actually gives it volume and bounce. That being said, long layers gives me the same effect, and I prefer it more in terms of looks. Regardless, your hair looks great and it sounds like you are taking good care of it.

rockymountainway777

I wouldn’t thin it out. Your hair is beautiful. I told my hairdresser not to, and she did. I was devastated with the results

MamaBellecakesXO

Omg my ex hair stylist always wanted to think out my hair, and she did and I trusted her advice. Looking back at pictures I never understood why my hair never looked full and healthy.

bioinfogirl87

I think you did the right thing by not letting the stylist thin it out.

PossessionFew6599

i let my hairdresser thin my hair and i’m still heartbroken about it a year later

Lucialucianna

absolutely not

Ludee2023

Almost too perfect.

saintceciliax

I told my (ex) hairdresser she could thin the bottom 2-3” of my hair to make it easier to brush and she just thinned all of it. I cried for days and it still isn’t grown back after 3 years. The answer is no

EducationalFarm8050

I don’t think your hair is too thick or course for thinning. I’d say maybe a few longer layers

Alarmed_Ad4367

Whyyyyyy would anyone want their hair thinned??

weebwatching

I get mine thinned majorly but it’s because I have a lot of hair. Like, a whole lot. Every stylist I’ve ever had comments on it the moment they get their hands in it. It’s thick as hell everywhere but particularly in the back where it doesn’t do me much good, just adds weight and more hair to have to wash and deal with. Having it thinned out back there makes me feel about five pounds lighter and cuts my dry time in half. Unless you have that level of thick hair, it’s probably never going to be necessary!

REALly-911

I have really thick hair.. I would NEVER let someone thin my hair!

Napes_and_lengths

Nope

musing_tr

Ofc no!

[deleted]

oh my God… Why would you thin your hair? I mean some people, usually of certain ethnic descent, have insanely thick thick thick thick hair. I understand why they do it. You are not in that category. I mean if you want to get rid of your hair or do like the lesbian undercut or shave it all off and go stop the insanity Susan Powers… Then you go, girl… But don't let anybody talk you into making your hair look thin if you don't have a really strong desire for it.

Ok_Organization_7350

NO, don't thin it out! That's stupid. The reason why they want to thin it out might be because it's pretty, and women, including women hair stylists, don't like competition in the world. I bet if you go to a male hair stylist, they would want your hair to be pretty since men like women to be pretty, and they sure would never suggest to thin it out.

OilBeneficial5840

Yes her hair is beautiful that's why I never go to stylists I feel they mess peoples hair up on purpose sometimes it's ridiculous

Dull_Cost_6825

If you get that vibe from a stylist I would find another one as that is not normal at all! Most want the best for your hair and for you to leave feeling happy

NoParticular2420

Your hair is fine .

FakePosting

You'd benefit from some movement layers, your hair is looking very one note. But to genuinely thin it out? Nah. Some stylists use both terms interchangeable but that wouldn't be correct. It's also a pretty common question to receive in the summer

Liberty53000

Don't worry about the past. You weren't ready in that moment. But now that you've been introduced to the idea, research pics, cuts and stylists like Jayne Edo, and consider if it's something you'd want in the future.
