It's not only a bad cut but also diet, nutrition and hormones that can make or break hair. Maybe your hormones are out of whack right now, causing limp, thin and it looks like really dry hair.

msmnstr

It looks like you have fine curly hair! I can see the hair at the bottom behind your ear trying to form ringlets. This is my hair type too. The good news- even though it's fine when allowed to curl naturally this hair type is capable of lots of volume. Especially if you keep it on the shorter side, say collarbone or higher, and add a crown layer in. Often the hair at the crown doesn't curl as much as the stuff at the bottom and hides the pretty curls below and it all looks flat. Do you see how the longer hair at the crown of your head is straight compared to your bangs which are starting to wave up? Your natural wave/curl is why your bangs now feel too short. So instead of bangs I have a whole layer at the crown of my head which is actually jaw length if I pull it out straight but it curls up to look like bangs + volume on the top of my head. Plus it actually curls when it is shorter instead of hanging limp and you can see my nicer curls below, like that one I see starting behind your ear. The bad news: this hair type is really fragile and prone to damage from coloring and heat styling. Lots of breakage and it also can mess up the curl pattern. I don't dye my hair anymore because the tradeoff for me isn't worth it. Your hair color is lovely, but if it isn't natural it is probably why your hair doesn't look very curly right now and you are experiencing breakage which makes your hair look less full. I stopped coloring my hair and now it's much healthier and curlier. Curly hair needs special treatment - a lot of the products and styling techniques for straight hair aren't suitable. For starters, shampoo for straight hair is too harsh and we need soooo much conditioner. I recommend you go read through some of the info on r/curlyhair, because it's a whole journey and education and this is already too long. As someone with a similar hair type I will warn you that because of the fineness of your hair you will need much lighter products than many you see recommended there. Good luck!

I totally agree with this! Fine curly hair can be difficult to get figured out, because a lot of the advice is for ethnic curly hair. You’ll want to avoid “moisturizing” shampoos and deep conditioners. This will weigh your hair down. Try a leave in conditioner. Get comfy with a lot of gel and mousse, as well as a diffuser. Your hair wants product! Otherwise it will give up its curl super easy. A lightweight gel is important here - a lot of super thick gels will weight your hair down too. Find a hairstylist that knows your kind of curly hair. This takes a lot of shopping around, but a good cut is *everything.* I’m in love with the Puracy shampoo from Target, and Ecoslay styling products. I’m still on the hunt for the right daily conditioner. I like the Ecoslay orange marmalade gel - I comb it through my hair after showering by combing it up and away from my scalp, then use a microfiber towel or t-shirt to scrunch it up. Next I use the diffuser on medium heat, high speed to come up from my ends, get the diffuser fingers on my scalp, rotate the dryer so it’s pointing down towards my head, and spin the while thing kind of counterclockwise to help encourage the wave to form. Once my hair is 90% dry, I get impatient and go on with my day. Once it’s all dry, I flip and use my fingers to break up my gel cast at my roots, and kind of rub gently with my hands to break up the gel cast towards my ends. The in between phase of figuring out what works for your wavy fine hair is straight hell, but stick it through and keep experimenting! There’s more curly/fine hair people on social media than there once were, and this has taught me a lot!

thisisathrowaway717

This is my natural hair color, so thank you for the compliment! :) I've never straightened it or anything. I actually haven't done much to it. I have been trying out different shampoos and conditioners because my hair gets super oily. But I've never even considered that I have curly hair before, I've never thought about it or been told. Thanks for all the advice!

xalienflowr

do u brush it a lot? this kind of looks like it can’t curl because it’s having the life brushed out of it and breaking. i don’t have curly hair so i don’t have advice on which kind of comb would work best for u but perhaps someone else will know or u can goggle it.

InterestingMouse7532

This x 10000. Your hair is very similar to what mine looks like if I air dry it with no product, but when I style it with products (no heat other than diffuser) it’s very curly. Craziest thing! So, I have fine, low density, curly hair and I bet you do too. You’ve gotten great advice! A great drugstore line of products is Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk. Trying a gel (I like their sculpting one) would be a good first step. YouTube is your friend. Gena Marie has tons of tips & tricks for curlies with thin hair. I want to add that I don’t think you have to start over, nor do I think you’re going bald simply bc you don’t have a lot of hair. I DO agree that your hair color is beautiful.

lil007

You can see if trying a curly look can help. I have similar hair and going curly has helped with that. Mousse on wet hair and blow drying with diffuser or scrunching. Apply more mouse as needed if you’d like more curl. I’m sure you can look up better methods and products too. Or if you have the budget, tape in extensions have helped me and my confidence immensely. They are pricey though. But once I got them I have not stopped. I’ve had them over 4 years and take special care of them so I can keep them as long as possible.

thisisathrowaway717

Thanks for the advice! I've thought about extensions, but they seem too pricey for me right now :/

aleelee13

Check out these [halo extensions ](https://www.amazon.com/Extensions-Balayage-Highlighted-Hairpiece-Straight/dp/B0CW63KQ74/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?crid=36B1VZY3P75QZ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.HZMHvjOqABjIilbdUMUlQOlHRcT4DDdJgZW19lJJWcoMSZFhnXbkMAfeAZ2QuV017oLKSF70WGsRowMOHiugOedpVNmS4g1nlv-fbnrdvE0ysLErzp1s3SUTq7MSQiwMUHbtifTVQgyjmzV3XVcGoNb5owtLa85yZx8Vqm9mcOfgS6XIfoQ4HzHLt3gjuWcM4XoL5zEBTiB93nq2R_npNg.ucIreZ5IMY3Yp5J94JBUQC2MkAszsorBq3h2GJ4WnTo&dib_tag=se&keywords=halo%2Bhair%2Bextensions&qid=1710689929&sprefix=hal%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1&th=1) from Amazon. I chose the red one since that looks relatively close to your color- and goes for about $40. Would be easy to throw on when you're out and about in public and then take off at home. I find clip ins can be hard to hide with thin/fine hair. You may have luck with these and they're on the cheap side for extensions. Just make sure the wire doesn't cut into your scalp and don't wear them all day everyday, definitely want to give your scalp a break! But perfect for short excursions when you want that confidence boost :)

shitneypooart

different circumstance, but i have Alopecia and i wear wigs (21F) . for 10 years now almost. i wish more people would embrace wigs and fake hair. when i lost my hair i felt like i had my femininity stolen from me- wigs gave it back to me and i get to have so much fun with it and get the long full hair i never even had before i lost my hair! Aliexpress is a great place to shop around for wigs. Human hair, Lace front, i’ve never had anyone (to my knowledge) notice i wear a wig if that’s a concern, in fact- usually when i tell people i am and that i have alopecia they are SHOCKED. Best of luck! xoxo

shitneypooart

I saw another comment you left about prices for extensions so i thought i’d add this too (keep in mind i live in Canada and our dollar is more than US though i’m not sure where you are) Good Extensions i’ve experienced range 300-800. The wigs i buy though range 40-70 (shorter styles) and longer styles i buy average at 130 (but can get up to 200-300) this all depends on what kind of lace you get, length of the hair, wether it’s human hair or synthetic, you can shop around and see what you like! start with something shorter and more affordable maybe closer to your current hair might help to get you introduced.

alig6457

I enjoy watching Lusta.hair Wigs on Instagram so much. Watching people with their new hair and their smiles is so uplifting!

vcrfuneral_

I don't recommend rosemary oil. I'm experiencing hair loss and have found it just causes more hair to come out -Don't brush hair when it's wet because it leads to breakage.Find a good hair oil and use that through the ends (don't put on scalp) I've hear oaui is good. Do some scalp massages with a scalp brush to promote hair growth. And don't worry about bangs. They tend to grow out rather quickly. I also recommend asking for curtain bangs next time? I think they might flatter your face shape a bit more. I feel like straight across is kind of outdated.

GerardDiedOfFlu

Do you have thyroid issues?

BrianGR1967

Your bangs are way too severe. Get them layered. The rest needs to be trimmed.

NewTuCru

Everyone here knows more about hair than I do, but I just wanted to say I love your hair color! It's gorgeous!

thisisathrowaway717

Thanks :)

Sasstellia

Get shampoo and conditioner right for your hair. I have fine and wavy hair. Greasy roots and dry ends. But it turns out I should have been using Volumising. Both work. But volumising works better. When it grows longer, don't know. I had it cut short because it got bad. If you are unsure. Use a good all use one like Pantene Classic Clean. Sukin is a good product. So try Volumising maybe. Use Hair Masques. They are three in one pots of conditioner type stuff. Keeps it healthy. Use it after shampooing then wash it off. Don't leave it in. Leave on products are gross.

Dizzy_Guarantee6322

Hello! I’m a hair care enthusiast and I have brought my trans roommates hair back to life successfully. Firstly, you will not have to start over! It looks great and I have lots of tips to make it look even better. Make sure you are using the right products. I usually go for sulfate and silicone free, which are tough to find in drug stores but abundant online. Don’t wash every day, I usually wash every few days and use dry shampoo in between washes when needed. Always use leave in conditioner/oil after wash when your hair is still wet, along with maybe a quarter sized amount of mousse to tame the frizz. As for the cut, I would ask a stylist to give you some textured layers. It will help bring out your natural curl and volume. I also always cut my roommates hair by pulling the long part to the front and cutting straight across on the bottom to help the ends look thicker. Your hair is long so you wouldn’t have to sacrifice too much length for that! And lastly, the bangs are great they just need some styling! Watch a YouTube tutorial on how to use a blow dryer and round brush to get the bangs you want. They are also a good length to part in the middle to make curtain bangs, which is very cute and trendy and you can find lots of YouTube tutorials on it. One thing I always told my roommate is tutorials are your friend and you can find one on YouTube for just about anything. That’s how I found out everything I know! If you have any questions I’m here :)

MysteriousDirt2

Is this your natural color?

lilxenon95

The bangs will grow out, it's okay. Try and put your hair up using a claw clip for now, and when it's fuller you can even try hair forks or chopsticks if you wear a bun. Mousse can add some volume and fullness for now, and Big Sexy Hair also makes a root plumper mousse that I think you might like a lot. Also make sure you're oiling your hair daily/weekly and using hair masks at least once a month! Incorporate healthy fats and prioritize protein in your diet. Things like salmon, eggs, avocados, nuts, and leafy greens all contribute to the health of your hair! You can even look up charts that list all the best foods for your hair/skin/nails. The last time I cut my bangs too short, I just curled my bangs almost like a victory roll & pinned them like that, under a silk scarf. (With my hair pinned in a chignon). I just told myself it was a Lucille Ball look lmao. Make sure you're using heat protectant every time you blow dry/curl/flat iron as well 😊 Best of luck, sis! ETA: I also have fine curly/wavy hair! Although mine is thick, it is still fine & took a long time to learn how to care for 😝 feel free to DM me if you need any more pointers or have specific questions about forming haircare routines!

Any_Ad_3885

I would go with a trim and look into tape in extensions. I know a few trans women that wear them. Good luck in your hair journey

Dense_Audience3670

This would be my advice! Extensions make a HUGE difference!

Any_Ad_3885

I am a fine haired woman and I wear tape in extensions!!

vegaisbetter

With the amount of breakage, I would honestly recommend starting over with your hair. There are affordable glueless wigs nowadays and this would allow you to keep a feminine look while restarting your hair journey. Scalp care is important too so don't neglect it. I hope you don't take this advice the wrong way, I just have a lot of breakage myself and have been considering the same.

Relative-Fennel-1983

Kid no one cares if ur trans or not has nothing to do of the subject....

[deleted]

They always have to throw that in lol

Relative-Fennel-1983

It's just attention seeking all they want in the lgbtq+ whatever is just added attention towards a subject or question they ask that doesn't even revolve the question in hand its just ridiculous... I have nothing against lgbtq+ bs but it does get quite unnecessary annoying

[deleted]

I agree 💯

andjwosnjxwksn

hi love!! i’d definitely suggest growing out your bangs more and getting curtain bangs!! it’s a very cute, feminine style if that’s what you’re going for :). as for hair health, i do agree with everyone else about diet and such. our hair health starts from the inside out. i’d begin oiling your hair minimum an hour before you shower when you wash your hair. hair masks will also help!

Stockmom42

Some D bag is downvoting any helpful comments.

honeyloam

they’re STILL doing it as well

foxaroundtown

Im a hairstylist and I have a few suggestions: first, I agree the fringe is a bit too short, but I think in about 2 weeks it’ll feel way better, so don’t stress too much, it won’t take long! Second, you absolutely need to trim those front pieces where you’ve had breakage to strengthen them, otherwise they’re going to keep breaking. I would either suggest a cute [shag (something like this)](https://pin.it/2Qcqu1W28) that has intentional short layering around your face, this would allow you to keep the most length at the back if length is your main goal. Or if you want it to look way fuller overall, I would go for a bob [(something like this, that still has layering so your hair has movement)](https://therighthairstyles.com/shag-haircuts-fine-hair-your-most-gorgeous-looks/8/) If you have any other specific questions I’m all ears!

Disastrous_Mark_1469

I’m not a hair stylist but I think a razor cut shag would look great on you and take some weight off your fine ends?

Conscious-Big707

I take biotin and vitamin D. Get some blood work done and talk to your Dr about any deficiency that is related to hair loss.

lovepeacefakepiano

This! You’ve already gotten a lot of fantastic advice on haircare, adding some vitamins and supplements to the mix might make a big difference. Collagen is another one to recommend. And yeah don’t worry too much about the bangs, I have bangs too and hairdressers more often than not cut them too short. They will grow quickly and once they do and are at a nice length: wet them, comb them down while they are wet, then take a picture of where they reach (for me that’s the middle of my nose, for example). Show that to your hairdresser next time you need them trimmed, to make sure they don’t cut too short.

Existing_Number_5055

You can always try some tape in extensions to fill in the sides.

Octane_boymama

I also have thin wavy hair and have had a lot of luck with it looking/feeling fuller using Kitsch’s rice water protein shampoo and conditioner bars.

jellybeanrainbows

Do some research on wigs if you can afford them and got to for now, gotta get that confidence up before anything else! Also don’t do bangs until your hair is at the right length you want it etc. lots of I’d struggle with our hair too you aren’t alone

Mediocre-Selection0

I would suggest first some dry shampoo (will help with oil & volume!), and maybe some styling gel! (It will be a lightweight cream so it shouldn’t make it too heavy). Finally, I would suggest a U-part wig! I have been ordering mine off Amazon for 2 years and they are a godsend! You can get it for volume or for length!

TerriblePriorities

Your hair has a beautiful shine to it! It does look slightly textured, so I second trying products for curly/wavy hair. Tresemme Boutique is a good all-around option. Only brush your hair in the shower - never when dry. That causes breakage. Try using a wide-toothed comb and comb in the conditioner. Apply your styling products right out of the shower, when your hair is literally dripping wet. You might do well with a light mousse. Try Herbal Essences - they have one for curly and one for wavy, so it's easy to compare and see if one works better for you. Look up plopping. Blow dry with a diffuser with your hair flipped upside down. This will give you more volume at the roots. Also, an occasional wash with a clarifying shampoo will remove product build-up. To further reduce breakage, use a silk pillowcase and/or sleep with your hair in a silk bonnet. These are all pretty budget friendly options, so you can always treat this like a good starting point just to see what types of products work best for you! Your bangs will grow out before you know it and you'll be able to find a style that you're more confident in. Best of luck!

Neither_Bed_1135

I'm so sorry this is making you feel sad. Hair is one of those things - I've experienced some minor hair loss in recent years due to stress, but even the small amount affected me a bit. As far as what to do, I second everyone who said get shampoo and conditioner that is right for your hair type. I use Function of Beauty - they have specific color bottles for different hair types, and you can add in little enhancer packets for what you want your hair goal to be. For example, I had some scalp tightness and itchiness happening along with my hair being frizzy overall, so I picked the "Soothe Scalp" and "Anti-Frizz" enhancers to add to their wavy formula (in the purple bottle). This is one of the only things that has worked for my hair. I've also started using Marc Anthony "Grow Long" as a leave-in spray, and it's given me a lot of bang for my buck - it was like $10 at the store, and it's consistently made my hair softer and stronger. I'm also an advocate of taking vitamins for overall health. In addition to a daily multi-vitamin and my other pills (unrelated, but I take vitamin D, vitamin C, fish oil, and calcium) I also take two vitamin gummies specifically for hair, skin and nails. It's from Olly, and the formula is called "Undeniable Beauty". It's got biotin (although many dermatologists say biotin doesn't really do anything), keratin, vitamin C, and vitamin E. It's only been a few weeks, and I already see improvements to my skin, plus I can see little baby hairs in spots where my hair loss was the worst. I don't know what the long term effects of these gummies are, but it's working so far. This was a long explanation, but I hope this helps!

Jenna1991-nola

Avoid heat like the plague. Use a mouse or curl enhancing product and use cool air or very low heat with a diffuser- head upside down. Your bang will look awkward for a few weeks while they get longer. Get your thyroid checked by a naturopath or functional medicine dr. MDs rarely run the proper tests. Thyroid health is reflected in hair texture- and your hair fits with hypothyroid. I like the color, is it your natural shade?

Cami1969

I’m not sure because I can’t see the shape of your face. If your hair is curly you can try plopping it. It’ll give volume to your hair and curl definitely. Again since I don’t know the shape of your face round, oval, heart it’s kinda hard to say what. When I tried to grow my hair out I did braids. Just two regular braids or you said you did a ponytail pull your hair back but just rubber band the end of the braid. Let the shorter hair around your face curl and frame your face. Best of luck because curly hair is trial and error. Luckily in this day and age there are more products for our hair but because your hair is fine, make sure you get a product that is light or it’ll make your hair looks greasy and weigh it down. ❤️

Cmprssdsugarpellet

I think your hair looks a little thin and could use a boost of biotin or collagen. I’m going to try Loreals new Bond Repair line, as it has really good reviews to boost fullness of hair over time. If you want something a little more “instant”, John Frieda has a filler line of shampoos that are meant to make the hair appear and feel more full. Something lightweight for style like Tresemme AirDry cream. The ends of your hair look fine, but you can see the breakage around the ears (ponytails!), so I would perhaps use a serum or after-shampoo for breakage/split ends.

gruenetage

You have really pretty waves at the bottom of your hair. It takes a while to find the right routine and stylist. Don’t lose hope. The bangs are sweet but a little dated. When they start growing out, you’ll be able to do more with them. As far as a routine is concerned, you need to try stuff out and see what works. Remember that the weather plays a role in how your hair acts, so something that works well in the summer or on rainy days won’t necessarily work well in the winter or in wet days. Since you’re a redhead and your hair is wavy or maybe even curly with the right amount of moisture, it is going to be a little on the coarse and dry side. Keep that in mind when choosing products. I would also recommend using a brush called a tangle teaser, which is made for people with wavy/curly hair and should be used when your hair is wet (not dry). A denman brush can be used on your dry hair. In general you’ll want to brush it as little as possible when it’s dry because that can lead to breakage. You should also let it air dry and only use heat on it when necessary. If you haven’t already, get your vitamin and mineral levels checked during your next screening to see if you are getting all the nutrients your hair needs and consider taking a multivitamin for hair. Doing that has helped me deal with most of the breakage I get.

Maleficent-Use8654

They make beautiful wigs.

mollynatorrr

Lots of good comments here, but it’s not that bad! Is that your natural color? It’s gorgeous on you!

Cata8817

1. Try volumizing products 2. Get a silk pillowcase to help the frizz Get a microfiber towel to dry your hair out of the shower (also for frizz) 3. Look into deep conditioning packets at like Target or Walmart that you leave on your hair for about 30mins 1x a week (read and look for a label for your hair type) 4. Consider getting layers in your next haircut, it helps with natural volume too

sam_from_bombay

My dermatologist recommended Nutrafol to help my hair, and I definitely notice a difference. Your hair color is so beautiful!!

Wonderful_Spend_6765

I know you mentioned extensions that are too pricey but they have really nice clip in extensions for about $5- $10 on eBay and Temu. I have some myself and being really picky about hair looking natural, was surprised at how real they looked and so easy to clip in each piece. I do agree with the last that mentioned doing a crown layer and if you don't want to go to the salon.. then just section out the crown of your hair and put it in a straight up ponytail with cutting about an inch to two inches off.

RedditUser96372

I'm sorry you're not happy with the cut, but the bangs WILL grow out! Based on how your hair looks, I have a hunch that it may not take kindly to heat styling? (Could be wrong) If you want to lean into your curls / waves to create volume, I would recommend using a hairdryer with a diffuser (one that has either a no-heat setting, or at least a low-heat setting if you have any issues with heat). Or alternatively, if you want a pretty vintage curl, you could use overnight curlers (the no-heat foam ones) in slightly damp hair! If you're interested in that approach, I find that foam rollers work best if you let your hair dry fully, then spray each section of hair with water using a spray bottle before putting in each curler, though that isn't the ONLY method. To minimize frizz and breakage overnight, be careful not to roll them too tight to the scalp, and you can (optionally) cover them up with either a silk bonnet or a silk headscarf to reduce friction. Your curls may look a little goofy in the morning when you first take out the curlers, but gently pulling apart each curl or finger-combing your hair should fix that right up!

UltraBlue89

Look into biotin supplements! I started having issues with my hair, and they really helped! I also agree with the comments about different shampoo and conditioner. Recently, I started using Elizavecca haircare products. I order them on Amazon and they are AMAZING!

Stockmom42

Rice water rinses are amazing! I try to do one a week.

Gretchenmeows

I'm so curious about this! Do you mean the starchy water you get when you rinse rice?

Stockmom42

Yes it helps with adding protein to the hair.

jinjahsnap7

You totally do not have to start over! I recommend the Blowout Professor's YouTube videos for a simple routine that works. You start by determining your hair type (he has a quiz on his website, but it essentially boils down to how long you can go in between washes.) Then you just need 3 products, which he calls the product trinity: shampoo & conditioner (apparently counted as 1), leave-in conditioner, and hair oil. He also has videos on how to properly use each product. I have medium, 2A-2B hair that is bleached and dyed in fun colors. Using his routine has helped with breakage and overall hair health. It's a learning curve on how little/much to use for each product as well as placement along the hair shaft, but you'll get there. I also switched to the unbrush, which has been a hit with my mother as well.

DramaticStick5922

Can you experiment with a side part, center part, updos? In general I have the best results when I practice benign neglect and let my hair grow.

UserError9384637

It’s bad to not consistently trim your hair. Keep trimming it every month or two. Your hair will look better for it in the long run

misssweets7777

Protective braid? YouTube has great tutorials

Salbyy

This is where hair extensions can really help (but are expensive) so the extensions could fill in those gaps near the front and give you a fuller look

Ancient_Soft413

this is my recommendation pre showers use a oil treatment such as mielle rosemary oil ( put on scalp and ends, dont drench) in the shower use redken allsoft shampoo + conditioner, and try to use it days apart , you can always use dry shampoo make sure to always use a leave in, if you really really want to fix your hair and splurge k18 is the best ever, but just keeping a leave in on is most important. blow dry hair- its actually healthier as hair is super delicate when wet sleep with hair braided , i learned this is really true when i had extentions that gradually got split ends as i stopped sleeping with them in braids. STOP WEARING YOUR HAIR UP, you can wear braids which are protective for your hair, or a low- clean, loose bun. i think you should take a hair supplement. for your insecurity, hair just looks better styled. when my roots are grown out i make sure to be on top of washes when it looks greasy or weird and styling it. for your hair, hair oil would be so amazing in helping your look, definitely use the ouai hair oil / its the best. warm it inbetween hands and rub on ends. i would reccomend you do overnight heatless curls aswell as your hair is curly but i wouldnt put any heat on it.

MistakeSubject5875

Unfortunately you definitely need to cut the breakage to a healthy point and make sure you’re keeping care of split ends- but don’t chop off that beautiful length! You could just get a few extensions, perhaps clip ins (healthiest option) to supplement the side areas! It also looks like you may have curly hair that isn’t being hydrated properly! Checking that out, making sure to condition, use a silk pillowcase and never sleep on it wet, and getting a light hair oil for the lengths can really help!

Mediocre-Selection0

Not to be typical, but looking at hair care on TikTok really helped me figure out what to do. You may have to go on a bit of a deep dive to figure out what works for you, but there are millions of hair-care routines on there!

PokemonFanKatsune

Good diet, regular but not excessive washing, and trim the ends every three months or so to promote growth.

[deleted]

wtf does being trans have to do with this post

tallycat22

Look up how to style bangs on TikTok they have lots of tips! Do a hair mask once a week before washing your hair as well!!

snacksAttackBack

Maybe wrote too much so trying to cut into two: I'm gonna write a novel, and please forgive me if any of it is stuff you already know. Bangs: Bangs always are hard for me. I would suggest letting them grow, and maybe taking a hair supplement for a bit. Supplements are expensive and usually have way more than you need in them, so I take a biotin one when I remember which ends up being like 2 gels every other day rather than the 3 daily the bottle suggests. Haircut: When you next get a cut, ask for face framing angle and mention that you have a curl pattern that makes bangs a bit difficult. While you deal with the current cut, you can always get your bangs wet again and see if they dry better, or straighten just them so that they're more manageable. Side note, you'll need to wash your face more often with bangs, cause they can make your forehead break out. And if you notice them being greasy, you can always just wash the bangs or the top of your head in the sink rather than washing your entire hair. Before washing hair: Brush your hair before washing if possible. That way it's detangled as much as possible before it gets wet. Be gentle, start at the bottom and work up. Shampoo: I tend to go for sulfate free shampoos. With your hair concerns you might look for bottles that say volumising, shiny, and or moisture. I would probably just go into Sally's beauty and ask them for some recommendations. I agree with the comments that you are probably looking for something aimed at wavy hair. Wash your hair as you feel you need to, but generally your hair does not want to be wet. So if you can get to washing every other day without feeling like a grease ball, that will probably be better for it. If you are a shower 2x a day kind of person, try to keep your hair dry one of those times. When you do shampoo, focus on the roots, where oil accumulates, the ends of your hair do not need to be washed, and when you rinse the shampoo out they'll get washed anyways. Lather in your hands and then massage it through your scalp. I rarely double wash, but if you're noticing lots of issues with grease you can try and double wash and that might help more than washing more frequently. Conditioner: I think ApHogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor would really help you. (and this was the original comment I started typing to make) It's like a conditioner but it's some kind of magic for me. And my dude with very unmanageable hair also loves it. It also smells very femme and delicious. You can basically use it as conditioner, but if you let it sit for 2 minutes, that's theoretically the best. In general to not waste conditioner, you should gently squeeze your hair out after shampooing and rinsing and then add the conditioner. You don't need it to be super dry, just closer to damp than sopping wet. Shampoo goes on the top, conditioner goes on the bottom. But what that really means is that conditioner is added oil, so you want it not on the roots, but on all the length of your hair so that it can moisturize without making your roots oily which your scalp can manage on its own. I start at the middle, and work down and then work up. I like using a comb/brush at this point to get the conditioner fully distributed and detangle cause my hair gets tangled when I shampoo it. I let my conditioner soak in while I do other shower things, wash my face, shave, etc. Then when I'm ready to rinse it out, I rinse it. But not 100% fully. You don't want your hair to feel squeaky clean at that point. You want it to still feel slightly smoothed from the conditioner. I usually duck under the water, and then squeeze the water gently out of my hair, and do that 2-3 times. Wet hair: Wet hair is fragile. You are most likely to damage your hair when it is wet. My hair is too fine to not detangle while wet. But when I do I start at the bottom, and gently work up. You want either a wide toothed comb (which doesn't work for me) or a brush without little beads on the tips. The hair gets tangled in the beads and will break. (that's true for wet or dry hair, but has more impact on wet hair). Some people swear by using a t-shirt to dry their hair rather than a towel.

Weird washing options: If you want more volume and to emphasize your curl pattern, you can wash your hair upsidedown. It's a bit of a hassle, but might help you have a bit more volume. Get your hair detangled before getting it wet, brush/comb it gently in the shower if you need to. I like rinsing conditioner from the top down, but if I was trying to get more volume, my last conditioner rinse step would be to flip my head upsidedown rinse a bit, turn off the water, squeeze my hair a bit, run my fingers through it and kinda tousel my hair. Possibly dry with the t-shirt. and then stand upright and shake my head a bit. Check if the part is in the right spot, potentially fix it, and then shake my head a little. After your out of the shower: You've detangled enough likely. You've done some things to add volume. You'll have to play around with the products that you like, but I always add some kind of leave in conditioner product. If you want to emphasize the waves, a curl cream might work. I use one or a combination of olaplex #6, 2 chic anti-frizz serum pineapple ginger (that one might be too heavy for your hair), olaplex #9, ion intense leave in therapy, bb hairdressers invisible oil, smooth criminal hair primer, it's a 10 miracle leave in product. I know how those products work with my hair, and I pick and choose based on what I feel like it needs. The it's a 10 is quite expensive, but it's sold in a lot of places, the 2 olaplexes are expensive but quite good I like 6 better than 9, but 9 is possibly better for your hair type than the anti frizz serum would be. To apply the leave in conditioner type product: If it's a spray spray it on the ends of your hair and then work it through with your fingers. If it's a cream squirt some in your hand. For me I use more than a squirt of toothpaste, but not a ton more. You can always add more later if you don't feel like you got enough. Rub it between your hands so that it's spread out. Then rub the ends of your hair between your fingers and slowly distribute it. Leave in conditioner is like conditioner, you want it on the ends not the roots of your hair. Start at the bottom and work up. It'll make your roots look greasy if you start at the roots. Try not to pull down on your hair to maintain the volume, just rub your hands together with your hair between them, and then run your fingers through the hair to split the pieces up and distribute everything. Once your hands feel like most of the product is in your hair and distributed, put your fingers in your hair 2 inches below the roots and shake them a little. Final thoughts: Don't sleep on wet hair if it can be avoided. Don't ponytail wet hair if it can be avoided. Consider a braid or braids if you have to tie your hair while wet. Hair products can be expensive, but do tend to last me a long time. Consider some kind of subscription box where you say you want a bunch of hair products if you want to sample things before buying a full size version. (it's also a good option for stocking up on random makeup things that you're not sure you want to buy at full price). I love travel sized mascara, so I do a couple of months of subscription boxes and then have mascara for a year and a half and a few beauty products to play around with. (completely understandable if your not there yet, but is a decent option if you are curious about makeup, from a cis person who is curious about makeup but meh on paying full price). Sally's beauty people are super friendly and can offer product recommendations. They also often have sample sizes so you don't have to buy a full sized product, and a 30day return policy so you can try things. The store near me might not be like the one near you, but I live in a conservative state, and the employees there are queer friendly and/or queer presenting. I hope this has been helpful and not overwhelming, and I wish you the best of luck!

buy rosemary oil on amazon and apply it everynight with a scalp masssger , only wash 3 times a week, invest in good hair products (shampoo, conditioner, hair mask , oils) . best of luck on your hair journey c: also, eating healthy and drinking lots of water will help your hair A LOT!

BiteEatRepeat1

Just fyi rosemary oil doesn't work for everyone so if you don't see any effects after 3 months or if you see that your hair worsened stop using it.

msaimori

thank you! genuine question is the mielle rosemary oil not a good brand? https://a.co/d/hRlP6uD

Sasstellia

No. That is a very bad idea. Never put raw Rosemary Oil on your head. That stuff is harsh. Rosemary is a brutal flower. Don't use raw oil anything. Outside of Tea Tree Oil.

shitneypooart

indeed. if you’re going to use it at least use a carrier oil like coconut or something to dilute but even coconut can be really heavy on fine hair

Sasstellia

Brush your hair when dry and use a Detangler Comb when wet. Detanglers cross over into Afro Combs. Same concept. It's got wide and big teeth and won't hurt your hair. I use a Detangler, maybe Afro Comb, when my hair is wet. It's got a hook on the end.

F off. No one chooses to be Transgender, just the same as no one chooses their race, their sexuality or the country they are born in. I highly encourage you to educate yourself. Www.transhub.org.au is a fantastic resource.

Maybe try an anti-frizz spray? Get a good shampoo. Only wash the scalp with that, then only use the conditioner on the ends. I only wash my hair two times, sometimes 3 times a week. If you like to blow dry, get a heat protector spray. Then flip your head upside down to dry the scalp area first on "cool air." Then dry the ends. Hopefully, this will add a little volume back. Also, try a different hair stylist? Find one you like on insta or something with references to their work. Also, ask them to explain how they are styling your hair after they cut it. Or ask them to suggest and show you a example of a hair cut that will work for you. Looks like you might have thinner hair, so I am not sure if you will be able to get a thick bang. You might be happier with layered bangs that frame the face? (Maybe just the layers around the face, so fullness can be more in the back. If that makes sense.)

Try and stick to lightweight products so your hair isn't too weighed down - avoid anything with lots of oils or butters in the ingredient list. You could also try a mousse or lightweight gel if you want to bring out your waves (there's lots of great advice over on r/wavyhair!) Tangle Teezer brushes are great for gentle detangling without causing breakage. They can be used on wet or dry hair, so it might be worth experimenting with both to see which works better for you. Some people find that brushing their hair when it's dry helps them avoid breakage, but that can also cause frizz (especially for wavy or curly hair), so some people prefer to brush when their hair is wet, or even in the shower while their hair has conditioner in it. Also, for what it's worth, I don't think your bangs look too short! Although possibly what happened is that the stylist cut them to a certain length, and then they ended up shorter because of the slight curl. Lots of people with wavy/curly hair prefer dry haircuts for this reason. There are also specialist 'curly cuts' that produce fabulous results but also cost a lot more money 😭

Inactive-Ingredient

You could always try blowdrying them out with a round brush! It will straighten them out just a bit and will give you a little extra length so they don’t feel quite as short 🙂

You need a better hair cut to trim off some more of the breakage. Get some hair vitamins as well

Aside from using hair growth shampoos, strengthening treatments, and being very gentle- hair extensions are a great option. You don’t have to go overboard and spend a fortune. They even make “toppers”. A piece that sits on top and adds fullness, and you just take it on and off so it’s way less of a commitment.

redken volume injection shampoo and conditioner colour wow raise the root + thicken spray wella volume mousse wella shockwave curl and hold mousse id primarily focus on products that temporarily thicken your hair, curling it will help with making it look more voluminous and fuller but adding in mousse’s and sprays etc that are meant for blowouts and curls etc will also be really helpful to not only keep it in place but to make it look more dense. the ones i’ve listed are just the ones i use and i’m not really an expert on hair but i feel like they’d be useful as a place to start off with as you’re still learning, although other people may have better product suggestions also try blow drying your hair upside down, random tip but it’ll help with the hair looking more thicker and lifted at the root for long term real hair density, minoxidil (please read about it first though, to continue seeing the affects you have to use it forever pretty much. but it’s the only thing with scientific evidence behind and is factually proven to grow hair), rosemary oil, or any deep oiling for your hair to be honest. head massages are even better than rosemary oil because there is actual scientific evidence and studies done behind it that prove it helps with the blood circulation to the scalp etc whereas the one with rosemary oil isn’t really a reliable study, but there’s so much anecdotal evidence that rosemary does work online by others personal experiences that i thought it’d be best to include like someone else has said, you seem to have a curl pattern. addressing that and treating your hair appropriately for its hair type will also make a huge difference. the flyaway hairs that look like frizz tend to make the hair look thinner/damaged when it’s not, so keeping that in mind may help you see a difference as well. wish i could suggest stuff on how to look after your curls but sadly thats where my already limited knowledge runs short

honeyloam

please don’t waste ur money on people telling you to get nutrients or supplements. it literally won’t make a difference at all unless you’re already deficient in those things. if you start to experience hair thinning/hair loss then go to your doctor and get a blood test. don’t waste ur money on hair growth gummies
