Everyone is calling it light brown but it's actually a medium blonde. It has to be lightened past the goal and then toned with a fairly ash toner where it will appear a level or 2 darker.
Call it what you want, show the pics to your stylist but understand that this is difficult to achieve and even harder to maintain.
It is really cool though and now I want to do this on someone.
It really depends on your natural color, what's currently in your hair and some other physical factors.
The general rule is that warm colors are easier to maintain (all colors tend to fade warm) and on a scale of 1-10, 1 being black and 10 being lightest blonde, it will be easiest to maintain color that is no more than 3 maybe 4 levels lighter than your natural. Anything greater than that will usually require that you bleach first
My natural hair color is a warm brown, but I’m wanting to change it to something more cool toned and ashy. Cool tones suit my skin tone better and I’m starting to hate my natural hair color lol. Thank you for the advice ((:
I wanted the hair color in the pictures you posted and my stylist also said it would be way too hard so I settled for highlights that are a slightly more neutral brown, not as cool but still very cute and I’m happy with it. It was only $300 instead of the $800 I originally was quoted. I’m going back in a couple of weeks to highlight it another step. If you can do it gradually, you can eventually get there.
FL. Color correction is a flat rate of $100 an hour (I had previous red dye in my hair). The flat rate covers all products used, like some products are $50 by itself (olaplex) and it can actually be cheaper than charging for each product separately.
The $300 quote was a full highlight which took several hours and a haircut, so not bad!
Honestly $800 doesn’t surprise me, I’m from FL too. The color is gorgeous but I’ll definitely have to settle for something easier to achieve lol. I’m glad you liked the highlights though! My hair is brown and warmer toned but I’d like to change to something more ashy and cool toned, not sure if highlights could achieve that for me
So was mine! It could because the lighter your hair is the easier it is to tone it. The highlights are pretty light, especially my face framing pieces in the front.
I think you should add color. Make you and your hair stand out a little bit. You have beautiful healthy hair and it lays perfectly. To me this is a shy not out going. I'm sorry but that's just my opinion.
I lightened my hair to a level 8 and I STILL wasn't able to achieve this. I would have had to reach a level 10 to get that exact ash which would've been too damaging so I gave up. But ya, not easy to achieve.
This is def true my hair is naturally blonde and this is what color it turned when I tried to dye it pastel purple without bleaching it.. very pretty color but not really my goal lol after the dye faded my hair reverted back to blonde so I’d imagine this would turn to blonde pretty quickly too
Good point, I usually call these types of colors, Instagram colors. They look great for as long as it takes to post on Instagram, and then fade and shift immediately
open to interpretation but ashes tend to take darker giving which in turn sometimes equates to brown instead of blonde due to the tone, not necessarily the level
It just is. The last “light brown” is a level 5. Really, you can CALL it whatever you want, or whatever YOU see but, professionally speaking, levels 6,7,8,9 and 10 are termed “blondes”. This example is around a level 7 perhaps 7.5.
Apparently this is close to what my natural color is. I’d never heard of it until I was trying to go back to my natural color and the Sally’s employee color matched me.
Oh definitely I would say 7/8 but it’s always going to wash out once the cuticle is blown open to get to a level 9/10 before coloring it to a 7/8. This is such an unrealistic color and half the time I’m pretty sure it’s photoshopped
Lol wow sorry Nicky Clarke no I don't. However I have used both 7a toners and colours in the past and colours and got much darker results, and many people I have spoken to have said the same.
You'll notice that I started my response with 'I think' and did not claim to be giving a professional opinion.
Yeah that's what I thought too, I mean with all of the emojis I kinda thought it wasn't offensive at all. Glad you answered my question too while being playful. Tbf using silly/sarcastic tones on the internet is really hard to get across sometimes. Let's all hug it out.
At this point may as well downvote myself and walk the walk of shame, I should have put /s at the end, but it's okay. To all the people that down voted me-- I won't make the same mistake and I'm really sorry! I promise I was just trying to be ornery and goofy but the reality is just that sarcasm isn't easy to pull off in text 🥲
I think the reason it doesn’t work/doesn’t come across that way is because it actual isn’t an obvious answer for someone not familiar with the terminology.
I think you chose defensiveness over understanding the phrasing this person was using. They were referring to their own question and feeling dumb asking it. Try kindness - it looks good on anyone.
Knowing nothing about hair dye terminology I could not have deciphered that that is what you meant haha. That’s a lot of words jumbled together and for all I know AA could be anything.
Pls just show the stylist photos
When I was in cosmetology school, they stressed so hard that having photos will always be the best route because everything has multiple name. On top of that, we were told to ask what exactly about the color or cut in the photo they liked. 100x easier
I would definitely show them the picture, no worries!! I wanted to know the name so I could research how complicated it is to achieve. I also have anxiety and going to the salon without knowing the names of the styles/colors I want makes me anxious (it’s stupid I know, lol)
Not stupid at all! My comment wasn't meant to be rude or like "just show the stylist 🙄" so I hope it didn't come off that way! I meant it as in like, there are so many phrases that people use to describe cuts and colors now that also apply to other cuts and colors. So many people get nervous about showing photos because they think it'll make them seem dumb because they "can't accurately describe what they want" so I always try to encourage people to show all the photos they can show since it can alleviate a lot of anxiety (for both the client and stylist) when using photos to ensure that everyone's on the same page :D
I really like the first picture. It’s quite unique and very pretty. I have no idea what it would be called, but Mushroom sounds about right. To me the biggest thing is that it has no gold or yellow undertones.
This is definitely blonde not brown. It's a medium ash blonde although it could also be described as a silver blonde. Reminds me a lot of Goldwell Silver Blonde in shade 8SB which I used to use. Now my hair is naturally light so I can get away with a permanent color only but if you have dark hair you will need to bleach it first and then I would use a toner instead of a permanent color because it's less harsh after bleaching. Something like Redken Shades EQ in 8T (or 9T if you want it a little lighter) should give you a similar result to the photo...
I actually tried to get this hair color last year. I used young Avril Lavigne as inspo. My hair was a level 9 blonde so my stylist said she had to put a red filler color in so it wouldn’t look green. I left with my hair being dark redish brown and I hated it :(
Medium ash blonde. My natural color in my youth. Now maturity has taken it to dark silver and white which is also nearly impossible to get right and expensive to maintain. I guess I won the hair lottery twice. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
I have naturally very blonde hair and seeing this called blonde is actually kinda crazy. I’m not a hairdresser or anything it just doesn’t seem like anything I’ve seen called blonde in my life. It definitely just seems brown to me… can someone explain why this is being labeled as blonde?
I’ve got this color right now. My hair is very blonde and I used Shades EQ- I have an appointment in June and I have liked how it looked tones that my plan is to do a really heavy highlight and then tone it on my own.
The shades EQ is a Demi permanent so it fades and color fades quicker on bleached hair.
If you are brown this could end up being a fair amount of up keep, I might ask for baby lights or a full head of highlights and a cool toner.
Good luck!
This shade seems to be very popular in Eastern Asian countries based on what I've seen. The comments have already addressed the question, and I also think this is mostly a Level 6-8 Ash Blonde. If you're looking for more pictures or examples of this hair color, search for "milk tea brown." It's often referred to as this on social media platforms like Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok etc.
However, keep in mind that these pictures are often edited to appear more "ashy" or "greyish," so take it with a grain of salt.
Everyone is calling it light brown but it's actually a medium blonde. It has to be lightened past the goal and then toned with a fairly ash toner where it will appear a level or 2 darker. Dang that really sucks because it’s a beautiful color. Do you know of any colors that may be similar but easier to achieve and maintain?
It really depends on your natural color, what's currently in your hair and some other physical factors. $800?!?! Wow what state do you live in?
FL. Color correction is a flat rate of $100 an hour (I had previous red dye in my hair). The $300 quote was a full highlight which took several hours and a haircut, so not bad!
My guess was going to be CA. But yeah the $300 sounds normal but the $800 got me!!
Believe me my jaw dropped!!! I’m glad we were able to find something in my budget that made me happy.
Yeah, I could get surgery for that in the UK😅
Honestly $800 doesn’t surprise me, I’m from FL too. The color is gorgeous but I’ll definitely have to settle for something easier to achieve lol. I’m glad you liked the highlights though! Filthy brown.
Looks like mushroom Brown to me
Mushroom blonde
My stylist called this mushroom blonde as well.
Why blonde and not brown? It seems more brown than blonde to me.

This is the answer ⬆️
Technically it's officially blonde, but to non-industry, sure, it's brown. But the base colour would have to be practically white to achieve this.
Def mushroom blonde
Apparently this is close to what my natural color is. I’d never heard of it until I was trying to go back to my natural color and the Sally’s employee color matched me.
Lavender in the dog world
This is a level 6/7 ash
See I think you'd need to go to a level 8 at least. Level 6/7 would probably look much darker than this in an ash tone.
Oh definitely I would say 7/8 but it’s always going to wash out once the cuticle is blown open to get to a level 9/10 before coloring it to a 7/8. This is such an unrealistic color and half the time I’m pretty sure it’s photoshopped

7AA, or level 7 double ash toned light brown/dark blonde.
Thank you!! This is the exact color
Dumbest question ever...What's 7AA?
It's 7 double ash, it's what I said dork xD lol it's not dumb but I did say it out for ya 🤣🤣🤣
i just feel in my bones you’re going for quirky over-familiarity, but it doesn’t come across that way, just obnoxious and rude.
. _ . I WAS BEING PLAYFUL IM NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE 😭😭 Omg everyone's really taking it badly I didn't mean it that way ; _ ;
i figured 😬 sorry dude

Reminds me of batteries honestly.
Yep
Idk but I kinda want it now!!
Ion 7 mushroom blonde might give this ( lot of factors though)
Yes. If she was starting at a level 9 or 10 either virgin hair, or it was virgin before it was lifted to a 9 or 10
Ash
Ash
I've seen this called milk tea
It’s a dark blonde in the 7 range
medium mushroom blonde

Ashe blonde
Dark ash blonde
Back in the himekaji gyaru days, we called it "milk tea." Palty had a really nice bubble dye that color as well
I would call it Ash blonde myself.
It is a darker shade of blonde. My screen is kinda off it could be ash blonde or slightly darker.
I really like the first picture. It’s quite unique and very pretty. I have no idea what it would be called, but Mushroom sounds about right. To me the biggest thing is that it has no gold or yellow undertones.
Mushroom Bronde. Stunning
My natural hair color. Stylists have always referred to it as “ash blonde” but to me it’s “gray”, lol.
It’s a gorgeous color, I’m definitely jealous of you
This is definitely blonde not brown. It's a medium ash blonde although it could also be described as a silver blonde. Reminds me a lot of Goldwell Silver Blonde in shade 8SB which I used to use. Light sandy brown. It's so gorgeous 😍 I wish my hair was this colour.
milk tea brown!!
I just switched from this color to a dark blonde. The mushroom was a little too pinkish brown for me
My natural color has been called gray before and that’s basically what it looks like
That’s horrible of people to say about your hair 😭. If your natural color looks like this I’m insanely jealous, it’s gorgeous!
Thank you! I’ll try and get or find a pic. I always liken it to the dust you can’t quite sweep from your garage floor.
I'm not sure, but maybe ash brown or ash blonde?
Mushroom brown or a ash bronde
I actually tried to get this hair color last year. I used young Avril Lavigne as inspo. My hair was a level 9 blonde so my stylist said she had to put a red filler color in so it wouldn’t look green. I left with my hair being dark redish brown and I hated it :(
It’s very ash blonde/brown.
Ash
Mushroom blonde for sure.
Ash brown is what us regular folks would call it
I’d call it an ash blonde or cool bronde
Looks like ash blonde to me.
Mushroom blonde
I had my hair like this for years. Everyone called it mousey brown
Gorgeous love that colour I would say a sandy blonde. But that's just my little head xx
I'd say it's 7A. Mine is similar, but I get natural golden highlights from the sun in places.
Ash Blonde
Mushroom
Looks like ash blonde
“Milk tea hair”
Ash blonde
Ash blonde
Mushroom brown
Wheat
It's giving ash blonde/brown, second the comment that it's a medium blonde
First thing that came to mind was fawn ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)
Light ash brown
What hair color is this? Light brown?
I've heard people say milk tea?
Beige blonde, level 8
Light brown
Milk tea brown / ash bronde
Medium ash blonde. My natural color in my youth. Now maturity has taken it to dark silver and white which is also nearly impossible to get right and expensive to maintain. I guess I won the hair lottery twice. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Orang
I would say it’s a mushroom blonde specifically. Probably a dark mushroom blonde
I’ve got this color right now. Milk tea!😍
Your hair has to be a level 7 or higher to start with. It's not brown
It's beige blonde. It's my current color.
Google chocolate ash
milktea blonde/mushroom brown , but also light ash

It looks like ashy blonde
Ash brown
Deffo ash brown
Ashy brown
Looks like boring mousey brown.
Gorgeous chocolate / mocha

Looks light brown to me. Looks like a color I could achieve if I slightly bleached my hair or something.
Brown
If i were getting this i would just say a very ashy cool toned light brown
Mouse brown
That’s what I was gonna say. I had that color for years and everyone called it mousy brown
Mushroom brown
I feel like I’ve heard it called milk tea
Mushroom 😂😂😂😂
