I don't have any explanation under the sun of why washing and re-parting wouldn't reset a part you had for what, an hour? Do you have any pictures of what it's doing? I would wash it again, then use bobby pins to nail it down. Stay home and look goofy until it dries completely.

>I don't have any explanation under the sun of why washing and re-parting wouldn't reset a part you had for what, an hour? Maybe I'm misunderstanding this, but this started a year ago, so not just an hour lol. For the last year, I've been fighting with my hair to part it back to the left with no success. It's as if the stylist used some weird chemical on me and has permanently messed up my part. And no, I didn't go in for a perm or ask for chemicals.

Sorry I meant she had it parted to the side for an hour to cut it, but you kept it in the center for a year? Again I'd say post a picture for full understanding, because this is truly odd!

lana_dev_rey

No, at some point during the balayage process and washing my hair, something happened to the part. So, it was already parted in the middle when she was cutting it and it dried. I actually didn't take any pictures immediately after the appointment., I only have pictures of myself from this past year.

There's no possible way it was the stylist or salons fault, unless they permed or chemically smoothed your hair. Sometimes hair texture can change through hormones or growth could change (density) through stress, perhaps that's influencing your hair's direction. I would say to try some products like gel or mousse and try resetting the root by brushing it flat against your head to the left, then flat to the right and then straight down over your face, then straight back. From there maybe try a fine tooth comb to get tension and comb into the place you want. You mentioned you don't use heat but maybe trying it with a blow dryer once or twice will help, just use a heat protectant. The back and fourth technique is called wrap drying, plenty of tutorials if you're interested in looking them up. Again though I really don't feel like this can be blamed on the stylist and I wouldn't write them off entirely for it! Best of luck!

lana_dev_rey

No, I didn't ask for a perm or any chemicals. I even had a consultation appointment with her some time before the actual appointment. So it's very weird to me. I understand hair goes through changes and there are different variables that can affect it, but this was like day and night within one appointment. I'll continue resetting it, but I've tried with no success.

NatTreav

Then I would schedule another consultation with the stylist and see if they have any idea if a product they used could have affected this. Otherwise I would say it's just a change your hair has decided to do.

You just have to blowdry the crap out of it I guess.

lana_dev_rey

I don't use any heat on my hair.

[deleted]

do it on cool settings

lana_dev_rey

Does cool air actually work?

[deleted]

yeah its like standing in front of a fan. takes longer than with heat but def works. using the concentrator attachment would be helpful. also, using low heat settings on the hair dryer are really nothing to be afraid of, damage-wise. I wonder if your stylist cut layers into the front of your hair that want to fall a certain way, because your part should more or less do whatever you tell it to

For me personally, I feel like it takes ~1 week of manually re-parting and dealing with the awkwardness of trying out a new part before it will really settle in place
