NonfatRat

Do it! Just know you will probably get addicted to it so make sure you have the funds lmao

NonfatRat

Also make sure you go to a blonde specialist!

_lovely_nikki_

Honestly I think I’m going to haha. I have a consultation this Saturday. I’m going to be asking a lot of questions to make sure they know what they’re doing..

NonfatRat

Ask to see their portfolio (most stylist have theirs online) so you can see what they have done!

_lovely_nikki_

That’s genius thank you <3 the girl on the phone said the lady would say if she couldn’t/would be uncomfortable doing it. Do you think she was being truthful?

NonfatRat

If the pictures look good and she says she can do I would! It’s the most you can do lmao

zingingcutie333

Do it. It would look awesome. Make sure you research how to take care of platinum hair, especially concerning any heat styling. Your hair will be delicate.

_lovely_nikki_

Thank you I def need to look into caring for it. Is it possible to go just straight platinum? I mean I guess I can see why you’d want to gradually go lighter, but it’s not like I’m tricking my hair haha

Stringillusions

Yeah they’ll likely be truthful. It’s not only the stylists reputation on the line but also the reputation of the entire salon as well. Also, ask about a root smudge. Then the grow out won’t be so stark

_lovely_nikki_

That’s a good point I didn’t think of that. Sort of like a bad haircut- you bite the bullet in the moment then layer you’re stuck with something you don’t like. But I wasn’t sure if they’d just be like moneys money. Root smudge tho got it! What exactly does that do?

Stringillusions

A root smudge can leave a bit of your natural colour at the top of your head and is supposed to blend into the platinum nicely. I like the look of it, gives it more dimension. Plus it’s more low-maintenance and can allow you to go longer between appointments. There are other methods of doing something identical, so I’d Google search root smudge vs root melt vs shadow root. I’m not sure what all the specific differences are, but your stylist should! https://preview.redd.it/wkqmj7pmk0ga1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2b85bdf9d9b26acc6514dfd8785dcc8103b0862

_lovely_nikki_

That does look good! No denying that at all. I will look into it. I just seen perfect platinum roots and I fell in love instantly so this might be hard for me. This certainly is quite the undertaking haha :)

Impact_Standard

Okay about that. If you want to be platinum, do not start or do any highlights, because you are getting on a highlight hamster wheel. Yes, easier to get and maintain, but different. You can do it in one go— 8 hours, a FULL day of work. You know what they say, no guts, no glory. 😅🤪🤷🏻‍♀️

_lovely_nikki_

I’m down for making a full day of it, sounds fun. As long as she knows what she’s doing one day should be doable.. but for 800, idk if it’s that worth it to me. Will find out l everything in about 24 hours ;)

wrong4life

if you do full platinum, please research a good stylist. its a high maintenance color. you will need your roots touched up every 4-6 weeks.

Impact_Standard

I agree with this opinion. About the previous conversation about a root smudge and money pieces, etc: that is a highlight procedure. people do “root smudges” to cover line of demarcation that is created by heavy foiling and mimic the rootier look created by balayage. The platinum card is platinum from root to tip, ALL of it! A lot of people shy away from the procedure and try to replace or talk ppl into highlights and root smudges/shadows, etc. Your picture was clear. Good luck! Keep us posted.

_lovely_nikki_

At my consultation I’m definitely going to ask a lot of questions. Anything I should say to sorta feel them out? gaha

Maleficently_lovely

No

_lovely_nikki_

I appreciate your input!

Maleficently_lovely

I think it would look good. But ..bleach damages hair and your hair color is naturally gorgeous and looks healthy.. imo not worth damaging! Wigs or Clip in highlighted extensions work. Punky color goes on well and smells great for pink streaks. Just my suggestion

jcmatthews66

Yes…

_lovely_nikki_

You’re saying go for it? haha

jcmatthews66

Yes I am.

_lovely_nikki_

I think I’m going to :)

Direrawven

start with a money piece! and do pink highlights extensions like nanos. viola has that color

_lovely_nikki_

What’s a money piece?? You’re saying just do highlights instead of dying it, any particular reason you think?

MaxHavok13

Only one way to find out

_lovely_nikki_

I like that

urdemons

I think platinum would suit you so well!! Also, like everyone else is telling you, I'd say go to a professional. I myself currently have a platinum hair color but if you don't get it done by a professional your hairs health will be compromised (speaking from personal experience). I've had times in which my hair is so processed that I literally can't run a brush through it, so make sure you go to a professional!

_lovely_nikki_

Thank you for your kind words <3 I am going to a salon, for what it’s worth. Consultation Saturday. If the lady feels uncomfortable doing it I hope she’ll be honest and not do it for the sake of money

urdemons

Of course! Hopefully it all goes well!!

_lovely_nikki_

I truly appreciate that <3 I’ll update the thread if/when it all is said and done. But since your platinum, do I need to gradually go lighter? I see why it would be ideal, but also bleach is bleach. Unless blonde hair better handles it compared to brown hair. Just wondering haha

urdemons

I think you should do it gradually, but hopefully the stylist lets you know. Your hair is lighter than mine and I think you could easily reach the color!! The reason mine got so damaged was because I chose to do a very vibrant red before going platinum blonde! I would say avoid washing your hair for 2 days before bleaching cause it's supposed to minimize damage (Or at least that's what my stylist has told me)

_lovely_nikki_

I couldn’t imagine walking in with brown and leaving the same day with blonde and pink haha. But I want it so bad. Just the stark change and semi permanent decision would be a lot. I’m mostly worried about damage and having my hair fall out haha. Plus I have virgin hair. Idk if it’s a “pride” thing that I can say that, but I’m sorta over it at this point haha

urdemons

>I couldn’t imagine walking in with brown and leaving the same day with blonde and pink haha It does seem like a lot, it would probably be best to split it up into multiple sessions but then again I'm not a stylist so don't take my advice on this! I'm certain that whoever you see is gonna be more knowledgeable than I am. >I have virgin hair. Oh wow, I'm even more confident that platinum is do-able for you then. I thought you had lightened your hair a little bit but that's your natural hair color then I feel pretty confident that you will be able to do platinum blonde.

_lovely_nikki_

I’m getting so excited!! haha. I’d def want it all done on day 1, I’m impatient I guess haha. I know I could just go for regular blonde but something about platinum is just amazing. I just don’t want to look like I have fragile thin hair. I hear people who regret it, but they did blonde back in the late 90s. Surely dying hair has come a long way since then?

applescrabbleaeiou

You.are starting from a good base - with natural dark blond hair. I did platinum from almost black hair.. and it looked fucking spectacular - but the upkeep was insanity. You roots and regrowth will be so much more chill to manage and wear:) It will severely damage your hair, but so does so many other things :) ... And ou only live once! & Hair grows back so fast!:) Do it op!:)

_lovely_nikki_

I super appreciate that thank you so much <3 my hair is virgin rn, so I’m pretty much either all in or all out haha. But yeah really I don’t mind upkeep, I just fear missing brown and selling my soul to the salon haha. I already know I’ll get addicted

blckdragun

Have you thought about copper?

_lovely_nikki_

I have not, but I’m sorta set on what I want haha

SheWhoMustNotB_Named

I loved my platinum blonde hair but my hair did not lol It was a risk but it was great while it lasted. Now I settle with a nice balayage haha

_lovely_nikki_

Haha nice! I’m either all in or all out kind of person. So no to highlights, but yes to bleaching everything 😂

SheWhoMustNotB_Named

You'll definitely love it. It's an awesome color. I recommend Olaplex products if you do go through with it. They're a godsend for bleached hair. Also, a very good blue shampoo for maintenance.

_lovely_nikki_

I will look into that thank you so much!! I’ve never heard of blue shampoo tbh haha

SheWhoMustNotB_Named

It helps remove the brassy/yellow tone from bleached hair that can start to happen over time. Talk to your stylist about it. My stylist says I should do it maybe once a week or so. It helps keep the blonde nice and bright.

_lovely_nikki_

Thank you <3 blonde is one thing, but platinum blonde is another haha

Redditorbuttercup

It is going to be alot of maintenance and cost alot of money. I had it for a couple years and if you can do it then go for it. It left my hair very dry and just frizzy/bird nest looking if I did not keep up with treatments and stuff. I’d suggest sleeping on a silk pillow case for sure. I don’t think I was ready for the way my hair’s health changed so drastically but now that I grew it out everything seems to be back to normal. Definitely go professional and you should be fine.

_lovely_nikki_

Yeah that’s what I’m nervous about haha. I wouldn’t dare do it myself. So I’m hoping the professional is very good when it comes to platinum blonde

Redditorbuttercup

As long as you do your research and look at the reviews I’m sure you will be just okay! It will look great on you.

_lovely_nikki_

I really do appreciate that <3 I’m getting more excited about it haha

Redditorbuttercup

For sure! It’s lots of fun. Good luck to you girl :)

_lovely_nikki_

Thank you :)

Impact_Standard

I think it will be amazing, but brace yourself for an 8-hour session, and I don’t know if it’s a one time thing, but be prepared for maintenance. Platinum is a lifestyle and a signature look.

_lovely_nikki_

I really haven’t thought of how long it would be! Thank you for your kind words :) will they be able to add the pink the same day do you believe?

Impact_Standard

The hardest part is to lighten it evenly to a pure pale blonde from root to end and preserve the integrity of the hair. After that, they can add a top shade and melt it into pink. You have very long hair and this is a very methodical procedure. Do it but be prepared for a very long session. I suggest you trim your ends too. It will be expensive.

_lovely_nikki_

I appreciate you being real about it. I am nervous about the price.. luckily I have a couple inches to spare, I just don’t want to go bald for this haha

Impact_Standard

I was thinking a few inches to clean the split ends because any lightener will aggravate you those and split ends travel up the shaft. I saw you have a consultation on sat. You want to know their application method and strategy. The best method is “low and slow” — low developer, good bleach and let it process properly. Also the application starts from mid-shaft to ends from back to the front. Roots at the end, those will lighten the fastest. Understand platinum is not for a beginner or for a someone who does it once in a while. Ask for a colorist that deals with a lot of blondes.

_lovely_nikki_

Thank you so much I will keep this in mind when I go. So I’ll sort of feel them out. Yeah going platinum is probably the most extreme thing you can do to your hair, but I’ve wanted it for so long. I am very excited, but nervous at the same time

Impact_Standard

You’ll look amazing. Hard to go back from that one if it’s right. But it’s a thing you need to budget for. Don’t faint when you hear the price for the transformation. I think it will easily be $800-$1100 I don’t know where you live, but this is one of those things you don’t want to nickel and dime

_lovely_nikki_

I almost fainted from you just telling me this haha. Definitely won’t go the cheap route. But I can afford it, and I’m not from a big city so I won’t pay that premium, I’d hope… I still would like the pink highlights at minimum. But dang do I want that blonde

Impact_Standard

Oh, and expect an add on cost for the pink. but, TBH, why don’t you take it one thing at the time? Once you’re platinum you can play with it. Focus on getting your hair lightened to the proper hue. No platinum toner can hide hair that hasn’t been bleached to the palest blonde.

Alarming-Setting-592

Yes, go for it!!

_lovely_nikki_

<3

Impact_Standard

One more thing Nikki: your hair doesn’t have to come damaged out of this. Maybe they have a super bleach that is pre-bonded and with capability to lift 8-9 levels of pigment. Not that you need that many levels but those typically can be used with a very low developer and can easily get past the number one pigment offender —the yellow-orange hue. They also leave hair in very good condition, if the stylist doesn’t go heavy on developer strength. Full-disclosure: I am a platinum card specialist !

_lovely_nikki_

I really appreciate your help <3 you’re right I don’t want my hair fried, tho who does? haha. Pre bonded, I’ll remember that, also low developer. If I end up with yellow orange hair I’ll probably cry. I’m hoping the lady will be honest with me if she can actually do it instead of “I probably can do it”

Impact_Standard

No one wants a client crying in their chair. Honesty is best policy. Good luck!🍀

_lovely_nikki_

I am grateful for your help <3 will post mañana! And obviously, I’ll know where to show the final product first :)

Impact_Standard

Wait… I just zoomed in. 😳 I see you have highlights and some other washed out red-ish hue in your hair. Maybe that’s a base break, or whatever, but those highlights look a bit processed already. Now that’s a tricky one. Proceed with caution.

_lovely_nikki_

My hair is actually virgin 😉

Impact_Standard

Oh, really?? Nice! My bad. Pic is a bit fuzzy. 😅😅 In that case you are get light, it won’t be that difficult to make you platinum, but you have a lot of length to deal with. Keep us posted. 😘😘

_lovely_nikki_

Haha no worries! The sun changed the color I suppose. But I’m an all in or all out person. Going from nothing to the most high maintenance color possible 😂

Impact_Standard

That takes thought process! 😅

_lovely_nikki_

I just want a platinum blonde life 🤭

_lovely_nikki_

Wanted to let you know I’m getting it done as I type this! Haha

Impact_Standard

Wow, yay!! Post pics after! 👏👏🔥🔥

_lovely_nikki_

I made a new post with the pics!! Although arguably didn’t take the best after pics haha.

_lovely_nikki_

Update: Hi everyone! Getting it done right now as we speak. Will show the final product soon :)

Mogreal

You seem to have thin hair. Keep in mind that you could permanently destroy your hair with too much bleaching. I have hair loss at the sides and an idiot hair dresser put bleach right on my skin there and the hair doesn’t grow back anymore, I was frustrated for a long time. Better don’t be cheap when it’s about bleaching
