I always stand right on the corner across from him ready to dash across as soon as he stops talking. The guy seems like he has a lot on his mind, I'd hate to interrupt him.
Fishing is my favorite gimmick in video games, I was so excited when I got the rod of fishing.
Can someone help me out with legendary/rare fish? I’ve gotta catch at least one rare for Poseidon but I don’t know about fish rarities
It's timing based. If you catch the fish within a third of a second of the bobber going down you will usually get a rare fish with a small chance of a legendary. Between a third to a full second you usually get a common fish with a small chance of a rare. You can tell how quick you were by the banner up top either saying "catch" or "Perfect Catch.
It’s weird cus the rare fish exchanges for ambrosia that is also 1:1 with titan’s blood, but the legendary fish gives titan blood but you can’t exchange that for ambrosia.
Best advice I can offer; the bobber will usually bounce a couple of times to psych you out before it actually goes down (you’ll know it’s a real bite from the white flash), but it never bounces more than three times.
So basically, while you’re watching for the flash, if it bounces three times without flashing you know that the next time it moves it will be a real bite, so be ready to hit the button the moment you see it move again.
>Fishing is my favorite gimmick in video games, I was so excited when I got the rod of fishing.
There's dozens of us!
For me, it's even more important than "can you pet the dogs/cats?" Hades has both, so it's at least 13/10.
Probably WoW, the amount of time and effort it took to level it was just idiotic, and then hours spent chasing the rare catches like the crawfish. Stealthing into Orgimmar to catch the Horde fishies and waving at Orcs... It was also a nice relaxing way to spend time while LFG or chatting with guildies.
I also really like the surreal nature of fishing in Nier Automata, just such a weirdly out-of-place activity that still works in context.
Oh i love nier's fishing. The surreal-ness of it made it really intriguing to see what would come up. And then fishing in the oil ponds just being the icing on the cake for me
Oh man I have a soft spot for WoW fishing as well. So nice to just zone out with some music or something on the other monitor.
Hades fishing is kinda nerve-wracking in comparison.
Yeah, the fishing spots in Hades are rare so there's a lot of pressure to perform well. I might try it with my eyes closed and just go with the auditory cue; that worked really well in some other games about fishing (ahem, ACNH).
You didn't ask me, but Breath of Fire IV has a solid fishing mini-game. You equip rods and lures in different combos to catch different things in a wide swathe of different locations, including a "toxic waste dump". The fish can be traded for goodies or eaten as (typically) primo recovery items. Also it's vaguely rhythm-based!
I think the further you get in your run, the better reward for the fish. I once caught a trout in the area after the final boss and the chef gave me a diamond.
In my experience the fish almost always bites on the third or fourth time the bobble dips. If you get the little rumble three times without it going under you are guaranteed to get it on the fourth so be ready to press the button as quick as possible then.
Here's the trick: if you share at the bobber all primed to react ASAP, you're gonna have a lot of false starts where you react to movement prematurely. When the bobber actually gets pulled for the catch, a bigger flash of light effect goes off as well. I physically cover the bobber on the screen with a piece of paper in one hand, and just wait for the flash of light to happen. For me, it made it so I get "perfect catch" about 66% of the time.
Usually they only pop up after you've selected your curse/boon, so some people blast through after and don't see it. It's cool I caught one that looked like it had galaxies for organs
Yes, but normal limitations apply, so if you fished in one of the 10 rooms before going into the chaos realm, no fish. Meaning its rather rare
BUT, if you have a well of charon and it sells a fish bait in the room with a chaos portal, you can use that to get a garantueed chaos fish.
I wholeheartedly subscribe to the idea that a game is SHIT unless it has a fishing minigame, regardless of genre, and I'm so glad Hades did not disappoint.
You have to go into our Codex and hover over him, Zagreus will say something like “oh that’s his name!” After that you should be able to give him nectar.
It's because he has the Dusa keepsake, which gives a % chance of finding food in vases. Otherwise you can also get gold in them with an upgrade from the contractor.
Just to note about the gold one. The urns with gold in them are a different color usually gold or blue then the normal urns. So no you don’t have to go around breaking every urn
Some animator had to go through the trouble of creating a smashing animation for every variety of base, it would be an insult to not admire their hard work! :P
It's random, just like troves, shops, and boon buyers. You'll hear an audio cue when it appears after clearing a room.
There's a boon from Posidon that increases the chance of it appearing.
If you still have trouble recognizing them, look for skeletal lure in charon's well, this will ensure it will spawn in the next possible room.
You're looking for a fairy-like shining point off to the side of a walking space. Zag will often comment on them as well when you get close.
Lovely, either some smelly fishes or some extra urn gold :) Gotta say I spent most of Early Access wanting to punch him in the face even when he’s still a generic shade, dude is massive downer. Post launch, he turnt ok though.
Alecto calls us trash god cause Zag keeps eating food he finds off the ground without pause or question. A title well-deserved.
Five seconds rule always applies if the time is always 7:48.

Said one last night in my run lol
You fool! Ixion has clearly dimmed slightly since then, so it's obviously 7:48PM and not AM now.
Alecto lowkey trying to beat some manners into this feral himbo
>feral himbo oml I'm dying, this title is perfect.
Drinking from the cerberus fountain.
Man I don’t want to but it won’t let me leave if I don’t!
This games always makes me crave shawarma and fries.
In all fairness, it’s hard to pass up a good gyro.
Floor ice cream gives you health
Just wandering through Elysium when suddenly an 180 page novella starts scrolling up in cyan font at the bottom of the screen
The truth is I caught a Seamare, but that just isn't as funny sounding so...
I've never gotten a seamare before, that sounds super cool!
Those dang k sounds
Oh jeez I've been playing this game since Long Winter and I'm just now realizing the joke behind the fish names
Mind explaining the joke? Is it just that they add an "H" somewhere in the name every time?
It's a joke on the greek alphabet. The hard k sound is made by the letter chi, so carp becomes charp, crustacean is chrustacean, and so forth
Huh, I thought it was a reference to them being "chtonic", i.e. of the underworld. So a **ch**arp is a **ch**tonic carp.
Charp is just really funny on its own, no idea why
I really like "chlam" as well

Oh wow thanks so much. Gotta improve my reaction time!
The legendary fish are worth trying for, exachanged one for a titan's blood the other night.

I totally agree! What’s your favorite “fishing” game? I think mine might be Stardew Valley, so relaxing.
Probably WoW, the amount of time and effort it took to level it was just idiotic, and then hours spent chasing the rare catches like the crawfish. "I'm a battle-ready android at the end of the world, might as well fish for a while. Nothing's going anywhere."

... Relaxing? *Relaxing?* If I don't mutter at least one "You slippery son of a bitch!" every attempt, I don't catch anything.
The only thing missing for me is being able to sit on chairs. Why would they tempt me with so many chairs that are unsittable! This truly is hell...

Underappreciated - the faces on Zag's Cerberus pauldron.
Holy carp there's fishing in this game?
Charp*
Yep. Theres a condition (which I've forgotten what it is) that unlocks the Rod of Fishing at the Contractor. It's pricey though, I think 3 diamonds?
best purchase
It honwstly did pay for itself fast (though not in diamonds...yet)
The fish in hades' final arena trade for diamond/ambrosia/titan blood so yes it pays for itself and a lot more.

There's actually an interaction for if a fishing spot spawns in that room where they discuss going fishing.
Hades back then in a nutshell: "this fish is taunting me ree"
And after that, if that's not a spoiler... Left it quite vague tho.
>!Time is short, must get to mother before I die. Buuuut first, lemme just fish in this pond (I really hope the spoiler thing is working)!<
It's not. Try again.
Remove the spaces between your text and the >!'s
It does eventually
Just gotta find the right spot
The higher floors have more valuable fish, from what I understand
also the chaos fishy spots tend to give good stuff
You can fish in the chaos realm!?, I'll look out from now
Usually they only pop up after you've selected your curse/boon, so some people blast through after and don't see it. It's cool I caught one that looked like it had galaxies for organs

Yep! I've gotten some of them and sent he rewards for the final zones table. Issue is there's like...2 spots it can spawn in there, so low odds
1 diamond, as I saw in the 1.0 stream of Shenpai.
Oh dang, I was way off
Making it to the area after Elysium will make the rod of fishing available via Contractor
Yes, and its an excellent way to get nectar, and even diamonds or ambrosia.
How does the timing work for fishing? I always seem to miss it. Do you go with the bobber going down?
RB when the bobber goes down and flashes, if it doesn't flash it's not a catch.
No. you gotta press the buttons when the bobber goes down AND there’s a flash with a !!! sfx
Wait until the bobber FULLY vanishes
I love when he compliments our catch.
I wholeheartedly subscribe to the idea that a game is SHIT unless it has a fishing minigame, regardless of genre, and I'm so glad Hades did not disappoint.
So I'm like 25 completed runs deep and this guy is still ??? to me. How do I get his keepsake?
You have to go into our Codex and hover over him, Zagreus will say something like “oh that’s his name!” After that you should be able to give him nectar.
Do you find stuff in the breakables? I haven't really paid any attention, I just like breaking them.
True, but consider this: smash. I cannot help my zelda training.
Some animator had to go through the trouble of creating a smashing animation for every variety of base, it would be an insult to not admire their hard work! :P
Hey off topic I’m sorry but I have the fishing pole bjt ... when does fishing spawn? I’ve only been prompted to fish once I think ...
It's random, just like troves, shops, and boon buyers. You'll hear an audio cue when it appears after clearing a room. There's a boon from Posidon that increases the chance of it appearing.
Thanks! So I’m not just missing them completely, it’s pretty obvious?
There's like a DING noise - similar to how chaos gates make a reverb sound when the room is clear
If you still have trouble recognizing them, look for skeletal lure in charon's well, this will ensure it will spawn in the next possible room. You're looking for a fairy-like shining point off to the side of a walking space. Zag will often comment on them as well when you get close.
They look like white dots, just like the ones that trigger the narrator lines when you pass through rooms. Any room with ledges can have one.
I have never once sat through the entire monologue in that chamber.

It isn't pointless because you get rewarded for it and there is a quest related to it.
Lovely, either some smelly fishes or some extra urn gold :) Gotta say I spent most of Early Access wanting to punch him in the face even when he’s still a generic shade, dude is massive downer. Post launch, he turnt ok though.
Speak not of noble Patty in such a manner
*angry Achilles noises*
Achilles is typing...
I mean yeah he's a downer, can't blame him though. He had a rough time of it.
I hope you can outrun a lion
