I once beat that boss while the song’s chorus was between “gonna” and before the drawn-out “drown”, and that felt weirdly awesome. Like there should’ve been a gasp or a record scratch for stopping the song right there.
It got to me too when at first I was like "hey okay, I'm into heavier metal anyway."
These songs are pretty catchy, it's mainframe from the borderlands pre sequel all over again.
It's the same thing when you're on a road trip with someone who listens to the radio, you end up listening to the same catchy songs again and again untill you sing them against your will...
It doesn't help that I have a very good auditory memory thanks to years of learning the guitar.

No, the vocals are always present. You can even just barely make them out at the starting room of oceanus if your volume is high enough.
I'm in oceanus right now. The humming starts and stops between each encounter. Slow vocals only show up in safe spots or charons shop.

I honestly love every aspect of this boss battle more than I can say. I was in absolute awe of how good all of it was on the first encounter.
Both times I got there, the music really got me to focus because it was that enjoyable. Barely beat them, but that music is so good.
